UFC Quick Quote: Michael Bisping would prefer to fight Dan Henderson

"For me personally I’d prefer Dan Henderson to win. Number one because it would be great to fight such a true legend. And number two, simply because Franklin is a southpaw, and southpaws are a bit of a pain in the backside. Chris Leben, my last opponent, was a southpaw and it changes everything -- you have to change your footwork, it mixes everything up. When you’re not used to the fighter it makes it quite difficult. It didn’t really bother me last time for the fight, it was the training that was a pain in the arse. It adds an a extra hassle, an extra different dimension you have to take care of."

-- The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 3 light heavyweight winner Michael Bisping tells The Daily Mirror about his preference when it comes down to fighting either Rich Franklin or Dan Henderson. "Ace" and "Hollywood" will headline UFC 93 less than one week from today (January 17) in a 205-pound bout for the right to coach opposite "The Count" on the upcoming season of TUF. Of course, the eventual winner of the bout between Bisping and Franklin/Henderson will likely earn a big money match against reigning UFC 185-pound killer, Anderson Silva. So who would you rather see ... Bisping vs. Franklin or Bisping vs. Henderson?

Straight out the blog!!

They could have easily put bisping on the 95 card, win or lose he could have still been a coach!

by mo on Jan 11, 2009 9:38 PM EST reply actions

Well too bad Franklin will win it. I really could see Franklin being a number 1 contender in the 205 lb division soon with a win here and maybe one more against a quality opponent. Possibly Rua if he wins against Coleman or the Jardine/Banha winner.

It doesnt matter who Bisping wants… either one will kick his ass!!!

by 1-0 via Arm Triangle on Jan 11, 2009 11:55 PM EST up reply actions

I agree..Rich and Dan will beat him

by texen_1 on Jan 12, 2009 9:39 AM EST up reply actions

I agree with ya c-war. I want him to beat Hendo, and then continue on at LHW. Middleweight has nothing for him. If he wins this weekend, and beats Bisping, then he should forfeit his re-rematch with Silva, and go back to 205, where he actually has a chance at winning a title.

Unless, for some crazy ass reason, Thales Leites beats Anderson. Then Rich can get one more chance at the 185lb belt by beating him. Thats the BEST case scenario for him. That, and Anderson permanently goes to 205. But I’d rather Rich stay at 205.

Hey just a thought: people talk about GSP vs Silva at 185, how about GSP vs Franklin at 185? GSP would be at a size disadvantage, but I think it would be a great fight!

by Synyster [[2009 Year of Gegard Mousasi]] on Jan 12, 2009 1:30 AM EST up reply actions

I think Bisping would have a great shot at beating the Dan Henderson of today! if the Dan Henderson of Pride shows up, then its a different story. But if Hendo performs like he has recently, I like bisping’s chances. Technically Bisping is much supperior!

franklin would pose a much tougher problem for Bisping because Franklin is also very technical striker!

i DO THINK THAT fRANKLIN WILL BEAT hENDERSON!

by john on Jan 12, 2009 8:45 AM EST up reply actions

they should just give it to henderson anyway, since Franklin has pretty much said he doesn’t want to do it and will only do so if dana makes him.

by kitsunex on Jan 12, 2009 1:40 AM EST up reply actions

Thats not true, Dana and the UFC have let Franklin know that the thrid fight is not wanted and that it would do poorly in the PPV numbers and they asked Franklin to move to LHW. Franklin would have kept taking names and fighting Anderson Silva for all time. One thing I really have a problem with is that Silva completely undercuts how talented Franklin is. Doesn’t anyone realize Franklin has dominated the MW scene and the only guy he lost to is Silva. Its like the two sickest guys are at MW and one of them isn’t being recognized. Franklin will be the first guy to put Hendo to sleep and then we’ll start hearing people say Hendo is on the downhill which is unfortunate cause Hendo is only losing to the second sickest man in the MW division.

finally we will see bisping tested no matter what.

by shamo84 on Jan 11, 2009 9:43 PM EST reply actions

He said that because he thinks he can do the jab and circle left strategy he employed on leben again. The problem is Dan swings hard with both hands as opposed to Leben.

by NameNotRequired on Jan 11, 2009 9:44 PM EST up reply actions

If that was the case then surely he’d want to fight Franklin?? (Leban southpaw / Franklin Southpaw)

by MoonUK on Jan 12, 2009 4:32 AM EST up reply actions

Easier to stick and move someone who only hits hard as opposed to someone who can strike.

by Budgell on Jan 12, 2009 12:01 AM EST up reply actions

Personally I;d like to see neither of these guys fight him. It’s kind of lame that these guys are fighting at 205 to see who will fight a guy at 185. As for Bisping being a coach on the show, the dude hasn’t really beat anyone high enough to earn him that spot. They should have a Greg Jackson vs Mark Dellagrotte or American Top Team training new guys (not guys from their camps).

by El_Mexicutioner, formerly The_Mexicutioner on Jan 11, 2009 9:49 PM EST reply actions

Mex – I like your thinking. Having a couple of elite coaches train the boys would be awesome to watch!

by DownUnder on Jan 12, 2009 12:13 AM EST up reply actions

We’ve wanted this for a while. It would make the coaches more well known, and could get their gyms known out there, as if they aren’t already.

I think Greg Jackson’s team would win though. lol. But add to that AKA, MFS, XtremeCouture, we could go on an on here.

Hopefully it happens.

Great idea, wrong demographic. I think that this show caters to new or casual mma fans. Those of us on this site would love to see them bring in top quality coaches and leave the fighters free to fight. But I still don’t see this show as targeted to the fans you find on Mania or other sites.

by Jeff on Jan 12, 2009 10:43 AM EST up reply actions

IMO the UFC has made a mistake with the way they have organised for this fight and also for UFC95. Very poor as Franklin no longer wants to be considered at 205, also because Bisping wont fight until July, which he doesnt want.

I bet Dana doesnt even do a blog for 95, infact Id be suprised if he even goes to the event!!

by mo on Jan 11, 2009 9:49 PM EST reply actions

95 is looking alot better than the rumored 96 card which i bought tickets for.

95

Stevenson vs. sanchez (intriguing fight, good test for diego in his first fight at 155)
Mardquart vs. Gouviea (fight could determine a potential title challenger)
Hardy vs. Markham (will be an all out slugfest i believe might not have much impact in the pecking order but should be a hell of a brawl)
Sonnen vs. Maia (maia biggest test to date, a win for either would put them in line for a title shot)
Koscheck vs. Thiago (either a fight with no importance to end kos’s ufc career or they see potential in this thiago dude and wanna see what he has right out of the gates)
and the undercard looks pretty bad but the main card looks good in my opinion.

96

Carwin vs. Gonzaga (pontentil number one contenders match, should be exciting, carwins biggest test to date)
Hamill vs. Munoz (who cares, two great wrestlers, not title implications, should be a sloppy strike fest)
Hazlett vs. Saunders (should be a good exciting fight to see who takes the step up in the 170 class and who falls back down)
Patt vs. Vera (a scrub against vera to showcase that vera still has it)
Maynard vs. Miller ( this fight shows who is a top contender and who is a gatekeeper in my opinion, will either be super exciting or super boring)

96 is lacking a main event or even a co main event this card sucks from top to bottom at this point and i hope the ufc has something up its sleeve for this

by matt on Jan 11, 2009 10:51 PM EST up reply actions

I’d rather see Dan because I don’t really care to see Silva destroy Franklin for a 3rd time if he beats Bisping.

by Gord on Jan 11, 2009 10:10 PM EST reply actions

Oddly, I’d like to see Rich fight him again. I may be alone though. I mean, if he’s the number one contender, I’d like to see him get a shot every year and a half or so. Of course Rich may be tired of getting his nose reset. I guess I’d prefer Rich to get a title shot LHW first.

by Punch You in the Ovaries on Jan 11, 2009 10:26 PM EST up reply actions

If Hendo wins he fights Bisping at 185 and the winner of that faces Anderson Silva. If Franklin wins he has lost to Anderson twice already so I’d say they put him against the only other man to beat him…Lyoto Manchida reguardless of if Lyoto wins against Thiago. That fight be it Bisping vs Hendo or Manchida vs Franklin will be at ufc 100 just before Rampage vs Rashad.

by hatteras on Jan 11, 2009 10:11 PM EST reply actions

I’d rather see Bisping vs. Unemployment, because he’s a wanker who I don’t want to see fight.

by The Illuminati on Jan 11, 2009 10:16 PM EST reply actions

The idea of having the guys who will be fighting eachother as coaches on the show is getting old.. they should manage to hype the fights in other ways, just bring in some real coaches! Franklin even said that the show didn’t pay well and that is was time away from his family and stuff, let them be and have some fighters make guest apperances instead..

by RoB on Jan 11, 2009 10:21 PM EST reply actions

I hope the fight ends in a draw! that would be great haha..

by RoB on Jan 11, 2009 10:28 PM EST reply actions

The best thing Rich Franklin can do for his career is lose to Henderson.

Being on the road back to Anderson Silva is not a road Franklin wants to walk again.

by DirtyML on Jan 11, 2009 10:30 PM EST reply actions

I would personally rather see Franklin/Bisping, but if/when Franklin wins that, I dont wanna see a Franklin/Silva rematch…Yawn. I would rather see Dan rematch Silva or hell, just see Bisping finally get the shot at him.

by BrutalKnockout. on Jan 11, 2009 10:33 PM EST reply actions

it dosent matter who he wants to face, either way he’s going to loose!

by jslim on Jan 11, 2009 10:36 PM EST reply actions

lose sorry

by jslim on Jan 11, 2009 10:37 PM EST up reply actions

i would rather see franklin vs. bisping, two good technical strikers who would go at it. I think this would be an exciting fight ending in a franklin tko.

Bisping vs. henderson has more potential to be a boring fight as if henderson is not getting the better of the striking he will be able to take bisping down and hold him there, although henderson does have some crazy power but i would see henderson beat bisping via unamious decision.

I think this fight is going to hurt bisping’s stock no matter who wins saturday as i dont see him beating either guy and i dont wanna rich vs. silva again, but i would love to henderson get a second crack at it as he showed he had what it took to beat him in the first round before he got sloppy

by matt on Jan 11, 2009 10:54 PM EST reply actions

bisping saying he would rather face henderson instead of franklin is like someone saying they would rather play russian roulet instead of playing call of duty on a game console

bad analogy I know, basically bisping is chosong to fight a guy who could put him in a coma

by dia mette on Jan 11, 2009 11:18 PM EST reply actions

worst analogy i’ve heard!

by SoCalStunNa on Jan 12, 2009 12:38 AM EST up reply actions

yeah, it is not accurate at all.

maybe you could say he would rather get shot by a 12 gauge shotgun versus a 20 gauge shotgun….the 12 gauge shotgun has more stopping power.

that still isn’t that good but definitely better.

by joseph on Jan 12, 2009 9:27 AM EST up reply actions

I think Franklin’s gonna win! And he’ll also defeat Bisping! But, I certainly don’t want to see him coach!

by Dana's a Crossdresser on Jan 11, 2009 11:18 PM EST reply actions

I would like to see anderson silva murder bisping so I don’t have to hear about him again. Come on Dana…make it happen

personally id rather see bisping fight hendo because i think its a better match up for bisping, and of course if he does fight rich, and rich wins,i definitely dont wanna see silva vs franklin 3…and im sure its an to face henderson also because bisping trains with rampage, who obviously knows a bit about being in the cage with him, which should help bisping out a lot.

by TheTruthhhh on Jan 12, 2009 12:15 AM EST reply actions

an advantage to face**

by TheTruthhhh on Jan 12, 2009 12:16 AM EST reply actions

People are talking about this like it’s an elimination to see who’ll fight Anderson Silva next. It’s not. This setup is about:

1. Higher UFC and TUF ratings in the UK.

2. Helping to market a potential number one contender at 185.

If this contender ends up being someone other than Bisping, the UFC can simply ignore the result and go on with business as usual. They’ve certainly done it often enough in the past.

by MattNY on Jan 12, 2009 12:25 AM EST reply actions

I’m a Hendo fan, but I think I’d rather see Franklin fight Bisbing. I know Henderson vs Bisbing would be better for the Middle Weight division. Better not to have Franklin knocking off contenders and not fight for the title. I just think stylistically Franklin vs Bisbing makes for a more exciting fight.

by DB on Jan 12, 2009 12:33 AM EST reply actions

Bisping, Griffin, and Evans are all farces. But time to knock’em all down fighting true “uninjured” A-leaguers.

by xxBAxx816 on Jan 12, 2009 12:53 AM EST reply actions

Anderson Silva vs the winner of the next Rashad Evans fight
I do not see Micheal Bisping beating Rich Franklin or Dan Henderson but I could be wrong
So Rich lost to Anderson Silva twice at Middle weight, mayeb he will do better a LHW against Anderson, but my money is always on Anderson Silva
Dan Henderson can’t beat Anderson Silva unless he keeps him on the ground for 5 rounds but he wil probably be submitted
I say bring Vitor Belfort back and fight anderson silva I want to see that
Or Randy Couture moves down to LHW and fights Anderson Silva who moves up thats another match I want to see, and of course GSP vs Anderson Silva, GSP would beat Bisping

by Cory on Jan 12, 2009 1:01 AM EST reply actions

either way bisbing is gonna lose. i think henderson will KO him and franklin with UD him. bisbing is the most overhyped fighter in the history of the ufc, and boy is that a loaded statement. he has done nothing to deserve a fight with either of them, he beats a bunch of nobodies, gets his ass handed to him by matt hammil, loses to rashad and flees the division. beats 2 more nobodies and then decisions leben, which was not the one sided fight that everyone seems to believe. please go watch it again and note how fights are scored. either way, it will be a good day for mma when that loud mouth finally gets shut.
