does this mean the winner of the fight this weekend is gonna drop to 185 again to fight bisping?

lol @ the race scene.

Yes; sad isn’t it?

I hate Bisping (I think he has talent though) and it’s funny every single person that hates him can all pinpoint their hatred for him beginning at the Hammil robbery.

I was the same way until I watched all of tuf season 3.

by jj on Jan 11, 2009 12:54 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

It’s pretty strange to say the least…a fight at 205 to determine who drops to 185 to fight Bisping.

What happens if Franklin beats Hendo and Bisping, and Silva is still the champ at 185? A 3rd beating at the hands of Silva?

Doesn’t make sense at all if you ask me.

by introvert on Jan 11, 2009 11:33 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

introvert, I couldn’t agree more! I’ve called this all the way back from last year (trackback new guys), that Bisping will fight Henderson/Franklin, then Silva. I have the same problem as introvert but for different reasons. I’m a Bisping fan, but how is it that two LHW’s, and former champions, fight for the right to drop to middle weight to fight basically a nobody? Shouldn’t Bisping fight for the right to move up to LHW to fight these guys? I like how honest he was in who he’d rather fight and his predictions too!

r u retarded? Eagles defense looked Stellar this afternoon! Defense wins Championships. Cant think of too many defense that would have shot down multiple 4th and short situations against the Giants and their Huge backs, and amazing offensive line!

U must be drinking that Cardinals have a run game Kool aid! Thats a bunch of Crap! We will easily shutdown there run game and we have Assante Samuels who is the biggest Pimp in the play offs right now next to Ed Reed!

Congrats John.. I respect the Eagles.. I love my Giants.. but have no respect for how they played.. how on earth are you the #1 seed in NFC.. bi week.. home field.. and not score a touchdown.. not 1??

= (.. John I couldn’t bare to watch after the 2nd qtr.. I would just switch the channels back and forth.

Your like a Brother John.. so Congrats!

Just don’t be too overly conifdent against the Cards.. they have momentom.. and are playing at home. They are not bad at home.

I would like to see either a Cards vs Steelers SuperBowl.. or a the battle of PA..

Now.. I hope the Steelers win.

Yep.. I’ll root for your brother’s team. = )

Sorry got cut off….Rich vs Hendo is a solid fight but this doesn’t make sense to me at all….Rich just said he wants to test the waters at 205 after the UFC asked to do so…..and now after 2 fights he is dropping back down if he wins? Why would he want to win? Suppose he knocks off Bisping and losses to Anderson again. I rather see Bisping fight Anderson and Rich stay at 205 and then have Hendo fight a top 5 185 pounder and fight Anderson again, regardless of who wins this Saturday.

yes, Franklin needs to turn down the TUF coach thing but now i guess it’s too late if he wins the fight… and even if he were to do that, he’d probably get a horrible time cause of Dana..

by RoB on Jan 11, 2009 9:43 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I’ve said it before, but I think that Henderson should be the coach if he wins (because a rematch between him and Silva would still be interesting), and Marquardt should be the coach if Franklin wins. Franklin should stay at 205, at least until Silva retires.

how is Dana filming the ultimate fighter without knowing who the other coach is? Only thing i can think of is that since Bisping is the English coach, the “other coach” wont have to be present at the Team England Elimination fights.

Love him or hate him, approve of his language and antics, or disapprove, it doesn’t matter. Dana White is a MAJOR reason why the sport we all love is where it is. I’m betting most people who read this are fans within the last 2-3 years. I saw the first 10 UFC’s on PPV back in college. It isn’t even the same sport now! I studied Karate and BJJ for more than 5 years, before there was even the lable of ‘mixed martial arts’ and the way one approaches training isn’t the same as it was even 5 years ago. It is so much better, and every year more progress is made in the sport and how the public sees it.

Sorry but Dana and the people he has surrounded himself with are most of the reason for that. I don’t agree with everything he does, but we only know maybe 1% of what is going on behind the scenes.

I love these blogs, they give you a good feel of many different aspects of the sport and the top organization in the sport we all love.

Dana, keep showing us the behind the scenes, it is great and makes me appreciate things even more!

In the past I’ve always been critical of Dana White. However, it seems like he’s really focused on his image in the last year. It’s had a very positive impact on his image in my eyes. These “behind the scenes” video blogs have been a good look at the man behind the hype videos and “fuck filled” rants. Dude is truly living the life. I’m thoroughly jealous. Best of all through these videos he comes off as just a regular guy. (Albeit with boatloads of dough)

Him making Penn vs. GSP happen right now despite the number one contendership of both Alves and Florian is a tough choice, but it’s definitely the right one. Can’t wait for this matchup!

Sick idea for UFC 100 would be having all the Titles on the line i.e. match ups for the Lightweight belt, Welterweight, Middleweight, Light heavyweight and Heavyweight. it wud be unreaL!

by Randy for Couture on Jan 11, 2009 2:02 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Lots of people have said this. The problem is a load of titles were done in one PPV a few years ago and they were all 5 round snore fests so it was dull and over ran. also it means there would be no other title fights for at least 8 weeks either side so the other cards that summer would be lame. I think a few three round fights on the 100 card are a good thing-it adds some urgency and with less on the line more risks are taken.

Bispings first fight against a world class fighter (Evans) he done good but didnt push the pace enough because he wasnt the same fighter he is now in this division! he is faster and fitter and more explosive so with the better attributes he has in this division maybe he could turn on a great performance and win Franklin or Hendo. Bisping said he thinks Franklin will win but a better fight for him is Henderson. thats exactly what ive said for months.

Since R-Dizzle is so bound and determined to make this a “boxing vs MMA” discussion, let me give my take on how Dana is involved in this whole deal….

Dana White (and his followers) spend every day shitting on boxing, and let me explain why I find this so amusing.

The usual explanation from Dana is that boxing has “too many promoters that don’t allow their fighters to fight each other, and we don’t get to see the best fights”….fair enough…and I agree.

The general consensus on how to solve this problem would be to have one governing body, instead of 20 different so-called titles (i.e. WBA, WBO, WBC, IBF, etc…), that way boxing could crown one guy in each division as a clear cut champ…and all fighters could compete for that one title, therefore fans get to see the “best fight the best”.

Of course, there’s one BIG problem with that…the promoters want to make their money, and of course with my suggestion of merging all boxing into one governing body…that isn’t going to make them their money. So, they say “no way”.

Now, to the UFC and MMA as a whole. The UFC is a promoter not unlike any boxing group (WBA, WBC, etc..) and Dana is the voice of that promotion. There other other promotions willing to let their fighters fight UFC fighters, but of course the UFC stands nothing to gain by letting a fight like that happen (just like boxing)…“what if the other guy’s fighter beats mine, I’ve got nothing to gain from this”, says Dana…“so fuck that.”

The funny thing about all of this is that Dana is the one bitching about how boxing “doesn’t have the biggest fights, because of all the promoters and different titles”, but he is the one that is acting exactly like a boxing promoter by not allowing cross-promotion in his very own sport.

Enter WAMMA (as much as you guys will laugh)…they are a prime example of exactly what boxing needs in that sport (1 governing body). It’s been tried in boxing before, but promoters do not want it…I mean, why on earth would the WBO want to allow a guy with the “Ring Magazine” title ride their coattails, when he may not deserve it? Just like the UFC will never accept a governing body (WAMMA or otherwise).

The point I’m trying to make is that Dana White is not going to be the saviour of MMA, like some of his fans seem to think. Dana White is talking shit about boxing, but at the exact same time he is taking the sport of MMA down the exact same path that boxing went down…..no cross-promotion. Dana is not the saviour…he is the opposite.

I do not blame him or the UFC for not wanting to cross-promote, nor do I blame the WBC or WBA, etc…for not wanting to go down that road either…but the fact of the matter is that the UFC not wanting to go down the road that boxing most likely should have gone down…..they are destined to make MMA the exact same as boxing…it’s clear as day.

“The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. " -Benjamin Franklin

by introvert on Jan 11, 2009 4:28 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

blah, blah, blah. and dana has cross-promoted before; with PRIDE and sending chucky over there where he ended up going 2-1. if the other org offers competition, then it makes sense to compete with a rival. problem is, affliction, strikeforce, all of these orgs are not on the level with UFC like PRIDE was. and sorry, blowing the bank on one marquee fighter does not make you a competitor.

by JB on Jan 11, 2009 7:12 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

good post! If affliction offered Fedor to Lesner in say 15 months he’s in

by kevin on Jan 11, 2009 7:22 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

JB-

It’s true what you’re saying about Chuck in PRIDE but it needs to be put in perspective. Chuck going 2-1 is a huge reason why the UFC hasn’t cross promoted since. Now, had things gone the other way and Chuck went 3-0 over there i guarantee the UFC’s cross-promotion perspective would be vastly different.

Also, let’s not forget that at that time PRIDE was the bigger of the 2 promotions. Much bigger. In my eyes it was more a case of Dana trying to build Chucks star by trying to prove his fighters are superior, thus drawing new fans to his fighters and his brand. All while riding PRIDE’S coat tails. Much in the same manner that Dana now accuses other promotions of doing to him.

Introvert-

Good post. Of course there’s more to it all but your post is an excellent summary.

by Machine on Jan 11, 2009 8:00 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I think you missed my point. I’m not arguing that the UFC doesn’t have the bulk of the best fighters, that’s true…but, so did the WBO at one time. We are seeing slowly but surely, very good fighters leaving the UFC for a number of different reasons, and that trend will continue as long as the UFC is ran like a boxing promotion…which it is.

I just find it funny that people listen to Dana’s “boxing is run by a bunch of idiots” jargon, and they take it as gospel…but when it comes to the biggest reason boxing is in trouble…Dana is doing the exact same thing that caused the trouble.

It’s very ironic, and plain to see that Dana is just a boxing promoter in MMA (er…Ultimate Fighting) clothing.

Its so funny reading all the bitching, almost everyone has a point, reason being we all have a point of view! Thats what these forums are for, there are no grades and no right answers, you guys have to remember that. Just because you think your right doesnt mean you are!!!!

Back to normality, I love the blogs they cheer me up and make me feel like im getting to know how things work, its fun to watch!!

Has anyone seen WSOP 2008 yet?? How funny was the ICEMAN at the feature table, he didnt have a clue how to play poker!! Wish i could afford the $10,000 to play at it, playing like a maniac with 6/2 off suit and hitting 2 pair, then telling the pro what you have and still getting the call lol BRILLIANT!!
