Dismember the Alamo: UFC eyes San Antonio for 2009

Props: My San Antonio

Quoteworthy:

"San Antonio is very much on our radar. If we can make it work, it will happen. Our fans would like to take a walk on the River Walk. With the right fight, absolutely it would work there. We're bullish on San Antonio."

-Marc Ratner, vice president of government and regulatory affairs for the UFC, talks about Zuffa's plans to hopefully return to the state of Texas at either the AT&T Center or the Freeman Coliseum in San Antonio between September and December of 2009. The UFC's first and only appearance in The Longhorn State was UFC 69 'Shootout,' which drew a crowd of 15,000 fans at Houston's Toyota Center and generated a live gate of $2.8 million - the largest gate in Toyota Center history. Remember Goliad!

With all the problems they’ve had with the CSAC, you think they want to try to stage an event there? Come on down for some good barbecue, Tex-Mex and frozen ’ritas.

Yep, that’s one of the great things about the UFC. They don’t put up with retarded commissions.

Finally about time, ive been begging for another event in Texas every since UFC 69 in Houston. It was great, I got to meet Forrest and Leben and of course the excitment of being at the event live is amazing. Im in Houston and dont have a problem driving to San Antonio for an event. Come on Dana, lets make it happen

I’m in Dallas and if they bring a a UFC event to San Antonio I will make the 5 hour drive especially if its a good card! I wonder why they dont hold an event here at the AA center in Dallas? Art of War 1 was held there and it was awesome!

Cuban is 50% owner of the AAC, and he has competing interests, so he won’t allow Dana to have an event in his arena. Just a guess.

I’m from laredo. 150 miles away. MMA is pretty popular here. I would love to go if I wasn’t so poor.

I had tickets to UFC 69. My grandmother died a week before the show and I ended up watching from Oklahoma where the funeral was at. I’m excited about this, I’ll drive to San Antonio to see it.
