Fans invited to attend championship ring presentation for WAMMA heavyweight champion Fedor Emelianenko

The World Alliance of Mixed Martial Arts (WAMMA) announced Wednesday that is has scheduled an official ring presentation ceremony involving current WAMMA heavyweight champion Fedor Emelianenko for Friday, January 23.
The public will be able to see Fedor receive his championship ring at Honda Center in Anaheim, California at 3 p.m. PT during weigh-ins for Affliction and M-1's "Day of Reckoning" event.
Emelianenko became the first-ever holder of the WAMMA heavyweight championship after submitting former UFC heavyweight champion Tim Sylvia during Affliction's first-ever event last July.
In addition to the WAMMA championship belt, a WAMMA championship ring was also commissioned by WAMMA from Tiffany's. The ring was custom designed in the same manner in which the famed jewelry company produces championship rings for the NFL's Super Bowl champions.
"We couldn't be more proud of having Fedor Emelianenko represent WAMMA as its first-ever heavyweight champion," said WAMMA Chief Operating Officer Michael Lynch. "Fedor is not only a world class fighter, but he is a world class person. He has always carried himself as a professional and comes from an old school mentality in that he prefers to let his actions speak louder than words."
Fedor's opportunity to bask in the glow of the ring ceremony could be short-lived, as the next day (Jan. 24) he is set to defend his WAMMA heavyweight title at "Day of Reckoning" vs. Andrei Arvloski, a former UFC heavyweight champion.
"Arlovski could very well be the toughest test of Fedor's career," Lynch began, "With an undercard shown live on HDNet and a stacked main event on PPV, Fedor's WAMMA Championship defense will be the highlight of a superb night of fights during Affliction and M-1's "Day of Reckoning" on January 24th."
Also scheduled for Affliction and M-1's "Day of Reckoning" is a heavyweight clash between Josh Barnett and Gilbert Yvel. Affliction Entertainment Vice President Tom Atencio has already gone on record to proclaim that the winner of Barnett vs. Yvel will face the Fedor/Arlovski winner.
But the day prior to the heavyweight fireworks, WAMMA cordially invites everyone to attend the championship ring presentation ceremony for WAMMA heavyweight champion Fedor Emelianenko inside Honda Center in Anaheim, California on Friday, January 23 at 3 p.m. PT.

lol. Really? They’re really beefing this WAMMA champion deal up. So when does Shinya Aoki get his ring for being the first WAMMA LW champ?
p.s. I think this is ridiculous.

It is getting a little absurd….It’s not like he bowled a 300 or anything… The belts enough already

I dont get why all u guys hate WAMMA so much. All it is is a group of people that work together to put on top fights between fighters from different organizations. This is a good thing. Of course it would be better if the UFC were involved, but hey….UFC runs the market and the other orgs have to do what they can to survive. If there was NO wamma, we wouldnt get to see a dREAM fighter vs. an Affliction fighter. Sure some of the Wamma champs are not the best in the world like Aoki or the winner of lindland vs. Vitor….but what do we expect? Most of the top fighters are in the UFC. But I have no problem crowning a champion to see who is the best non UFC fighter.
As for the Wamma HW title….YOu have to respect that title! AA vs. Fedor is title worthy no matter what organization the fight takes place in. Wamma still has a lot of kinks to iron out, but I believe that what they are trying to do is great for mma, and eventually it will be better and more credible. Right now, I agree Wamma sucks, but they are headed in the right direction and could eventually become a credible thing!
Get your WAMMA on Maniacs!

john, thanks for the second response on the coleman thread. i agree with a lot of what u have to say. Just seems sometimes like you are appalled that anyone could pick against certain guys. Yes, if the best shogun fought the best hammer, shogun seriously damages him. I just wanna see before i get too excited about shogun again. Reference Cro Cop. How excited was everyone when he came over??? and he just isn’t the same guy. Shogun is young so that shouldn’t be the case but i won’t be fooled again.

the problem that i have with WAMMA is that they are trying to proclaim an “undisputed” champion and that they a “sactioning body”. Boxing has many of those and look how well that works. Sanctioning bodies are exactly what MMA doesn’t need. Opens the door for all kinds of corruption and in the end prevents us from having true champions. And as far as the undisputed thing goes…. Does even one sigle person on this sight see Shinya Aoki as the undisputed champion of the world. I think that’s very disputed. Aoki is top 5 at best. And unless WAMMA is gonna show up after the BJ/GSP fight, or whoever wins and fights Alves. Unless they show up at one of those two fights and hand out a belt and a ring, they have no credibility.
by Crowls on Jan 7, 2009 8:13 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
I look at Wamma as the Undisputed Non UFC champions, and YES Aoki would probably be that! I think he has earned the right to call himself the best lightweight not fighting in the UFC. What I do like about Wamma is that organizations are going to put its top fighters against each other to crown non UFC champions, I have no problem with that. Imagine how great it would be if the UFC joined Wamma (Not GOING TO EVER HAPPEN)…But it would be cool. We would get to see Fedor vs. UFC champions on a constant basis.
Right now Wamma pretty much sucks…..But it could grow to be a good thing, if the people in charge know what they are doing.
With all these organizations we are going to have a million different champions that wont fight each other. champions include: UFC, strikeforce, Dream…. If Wamma is going to combine the non UFC orgs and crown a champion, then I have no problem with that and right not YES we have to credible WAMMA champs in Aoki and Fedor who are both easily the best fighters not in the UFC in their weight class.

So true. God did you guys see Lynch getting sand in his vag while being interviewed on the Fight Game with Straka? WAMMA is so worthless – his defense for its existence made me hate it even more.

I don’t know why WAMMA is worthless – bcz if they manage to put the sand in Dana White’s vagina – MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!

cant wait for this, id like to see arlovski take this, not cause i dont like fedor, the man is a living legend, just the win alone for arlovski would help mentally better than anything else! how bout a hungry fedor, the man is always hungry but what way would he come back from a loss, but its a tough task for anyone to beat a man whos quoted as saying along the lines of, we used to have nothing, now i can provide for my familly, any man who trys to take that away must be eliminated!

I won’t trade my Filipino citizenship for a US one. the Philippines is just way off the chain! It’s crazy here, nothin’ like home!! We’re like a mix of Spain and the US, pretty cool!…the chicks too are hotter than all asian nations combined…Top that!

My take on WAMMA:
What has WAMMA done for MMA so far? Aside from introduce two goofy belts, can anyone name one good thing WAMMA has done for any fighter? Probably not. All WAMMA consists of is a couple of outsiders (aside from Militech) trying to get a piece of the pie- trying to get money from promotions for doing nothing. All their officers, aside from Militech, have no qualifications to be authorities in MMA. They are all a bunch of lawyer, accountants, and a guy that used to be an assistant director of the FBI. Oh yeah, I almost forgot about that moron Goldberg-great MMA authority there. You can read their bio’s here:
http://www.gowamma.com/officers.asp
Read these bio’s and tell me how many of these "officers" are true MMA fans and actually care about the fighters. One, maybe two? All WAMMA seems to be is a big hedge fund looking to profit from the hard work of the fighters and different promotions.
The idea that the fighters should have an organization to look after them is a great idea, but WAMMA is definitely not have the make-up to ensure fighters’ best interest.

Forest wins out of that list. Bagpipes make us Irish get feisty. Dropkick Murphys are an all-time favorite of mine.
