by kevin on Jan 5, 2009 10:14 AM EST up reply actions

hey John, did you happen to check out my san diego trip pics?

by kevin on Jan 5, 2009 10:34 AM EST up reply actions

not yet Kev. I will check them out after work and get back to you

by john on Jan 5, 2009 11:49 AM EST up reply actions

What’s with the voice in the start and the beginning? It sounds like someone made this video at their house with a webcam microphone for the voice.

by RyanHobbs on Jan 5, 2009 4:30 PM EST up reply actions

i pick coleman to win by freak accident again! whats the reasoning kev?

by jonsey on Jan 5, 2009 10:50 AM EST up reply actions

I don’t know, call it a gut feeling! I think he’ll eek out a decision, but it will set shogun, who is considered by many to be the best LHW out there, back quite a bit!

by kevin on Jan 5, 2009 10:53 AM EST up reply actions

If Rua TKO’d Overeem twice, why wouldn’t he be able to do it to the elderly Coleman?

by El_Mexicutioner, formerly The _Mexicutioner on Jan 5, 2009 11:23 AM EST up reply actions

kevin~ did you fall and bump ur head this weekend??

shogun will not~ and i repeat NOT lose to the rusty hammer!

by stinky~fingers on Jan 5, 2009 12:01 PM EST up reply actions

lol no I didn’t! stink, my son is back to school, wanna do lunch today or tomorrow? I go back to work on wed. You ever play cards in hayward?

by kevin on Jan 5, 2009 12:03 PM EST up reply actions

After the video of Shogun training, I also think Coleman will win this fight!!! And Ive never been a Shogun fan, so I hope Coleman pounds his @ss out!

by JV on Jan 5, 2009 1:18 PM EST up reply actions

JV: At least you’re not biased.

by El_Mexicutioner, formerly The _Mexicutioner on Jan 5, 2009 2:11 PM EST up reply actions

jv~ u dont like the gun??

who u got in the frank-hendo?

by stinky~fingers on Jan 5, 2009 2:20 PM EST up reply actions

Head kick KO for Shogun. Coleman will try to stand with him.

by NameNotRequired on Jan 5, 2009 3:42 PM EST up reply actions

franklin and Shogun will win! Franklin too technical for Hendo. Hendo gonna get mad and swing for the fences, then Rich will pick him apart

Not in my wildest dreams can I imagine Shogun losing this fight. coleman is afraid of going to the ground with Shogun! FACT!!! I guess I would to if I watched my animal of a best friend Randleman, screaming in agony!

coleman is going to stand, and pay the price!

by john on Jan 5, 2009 5:02 PM EST up reply actions

Stinky, I think Franklin should take that fight!

john, john, john, you never learn! You just jinked Shogun! Now Im sure of it, Coleman is going to win! And hes going to win unanimously!!!!!!!!!

by JV on Jan 5, 2009 6:39 PM EST up reply actions

NO one can predict what form a fighter will show up to fight in. All we can do is make predictions based on previous fights…What I am sure of is that If the best version of Shogun shows up to fight the best version of coleman….Then Shogun will Hurt him….Badly!

Better?

by john on Jan 5, 2009 7:44 PM EST up reply actions

franklin is gonna get hurt. badly.

by jonsey on Jan 5, 2009 7:48 PM EST up reply actions

I haven’t nothing bad to say about Coleman he seems to really love the sport and takes on all comers the problem is just like Ken vs Tito 2 this fight is not really a fight….that being said Rua is top 5 in the world……. why is he getting Coleman? Yes a loss is a loss but talk about freak injuries…….. I thought Dana said no more easy fights in the UFC?

by Robert(1) on Jan 5, 2009 9:26 AM EST reply actions

the kid hasn’t fought in FOREVER. Last time he fought he did so with a torn ACL… Shogun is working himself back into the flow of things. He isnt going to be right for at least another 6 months. Normally this would be an easy fight for Shogun but he needs to work his way back up to pre-injury form….THats why he is getting, what you call “an easy fight”.

By now we should have all learned that ACL injuries take time, from watching other sports. Athletes usually need 2 years to get back to where they used to be, prior injury.

Guys need to keep this in mind before bashing his next couple of performances.

by john on Jan 5, 2009 9:36 AM EST up reply actions

Wow u guys are actually getting me excited for this…..just when I thought I could save $49!

by Robert(1) on Jan 5, 2009 11:03 AM EST up reply actions

i don’t think its going to be an easy fight for shogun. and its not like ken and tito 2. when ken fought tito, tito was the stronger man. shogun isn’t as strong as coleman. sure coleman might be “old”, but when it comes to fighting in the cage coleman has a big advantage. he will take shogun down, press him up against the cage, and the GnP will soon follow.

my prediction is coleman by TKO in the second. u heard it here first… and maybe the only time u’ll hear it, ‘cause i don’t think anyone will agree with me lol.

by Xander the Great on Jan 5, 2009 9:39 AM EST up reply actions

I’m not counting Coleman out either, but if Shogun shows up healthy and in shape, and mentally ready for this fight then he shouldn’t have much of a problem taking this one. Although, anything can happen, if Mark opens up and really lets a couple good shots fly he could catch Shogun ala Randleman vs Cro Cop style and lay him out.

by O Damn he got caught on Jan 5, 2009 9:56 AM EST up reply actions

Since when does Coleman catch anybody standing up? Where talking Shogun here…..

by Robert(1) on Jan 5, 2009 1:38 PM EST up reply actions

Hence the comparison to the Randleman vs Cro Cop fight..

by O Damn he got caught on Jan 5, 2009 1:53 PM EST up reply actions

lol “heard it here first.” I hate to break it to you, track back to when this fight was originally announced, better yet, I’ll get the link, I said coleman would win way back then! here’s dec 1st.

yeah but he is not going to win, so you just told it wrong first.

by roy on Jan 5, 2009 3:40 PM EST up reply actions

i can- he’s a big time juice monkey. he kept hitting shogun after the bell rung, he threw a nice roid rage hissy fit after losing to fedor… but i recommend to watch the video on youtube colman vs rua. gotta love W.Silva and how he jumped in when the two camps went at it…

by ricky on Jan 5, 2009 9:41 AM EST up reply actions

Yeah I so wanted Wanderlei to visciously KO him. Not a fan of Coleman.

by RobH86 on Jan 5, 2009 6:53 PM EST up reply actions

I am at work so I cant listen to the audio. Can anyone tell m e what this senile old man (shriveled up Vin Diesel), is talking about?

Typical American wrestling meathead: “Im the stronger guy, so I must win” lol, keep telling yourself that Coleman!

I said it time and time again, that I do not believe Coleman will step inside the cage to fight Shogun. I dont know why, but I have a bad feeling that Coleman will get hurt and pull out last minute. if this does happen, hopefully they can get a replacement for shogun because he NEEDS TO FIGHT! He has been out for too long! HOpefully i am wrong and Coleman shows up for his beating.

i honestly believe that there is NO BETTER FIGHTER at 205 lbs then Shogun. He is easily one of the most well rounded fighters in the World. He has WORLD Class muy Tai skills. I absolutely LOVE the way he throws his knees to the body out of the Tai Clinch. its like he is kind of Skipping when he throws those knees. MOst fighters just bring there knees up Vertically when attempting Knee strikes to the body. NOT SHOGUN!! He grabs a hold of you out of that Muy Tai Plum and brings his knees up and out (vertically), but when its time to actually strike he crashes them into his opponents body (Horizontally)….Just a beautiful and DESTRUCTIVE Technique!

On the ground, there isnt a better Jits fighter at 205 lbs than shogun. His fight against Rogerio Nogueuira back in 2005 was still one of my very favorite fights of all time.

Combine his destructive Muy Tai with his beatufilu ground game and you get 1 bad MOFO!!! There is no doubt in my mind that Shogun will fightthrough the injuries and work his way back up to being the best fighter in the LHW division! HOwever, I dont expect him to accomplish this overnight! He will need at least a fight or 2 before getting back to his world class form. So all you fickle Americansdont jump to conclusions. THe kid is only 26 years old… once he regains his old form and then gets comfortable in the Octagon…..U NOOBs are going to bear witness to one bad DUDE!!!!

WAR SHOGUN!!!!

by john on Jan 5, 2009 9:34 AM EST reply actions

He’s just saying that the first time they fought he had no idea Shogun had broken his arm; that Shogun’s biggest weakness is his weakness. He says Shogun isn’t very strong, that he has sick muai thai and jits but that he plans on overpowering Shogun. He also says he hits very hard and that its just a matter of “pulling the trigger”.

by O Damn he got caught on Jan 5, 2009 10:47 AM EST up reply actions

I totally agree and out of a lot of the ex-Pride camp he is one of the few that is still young and hungry which means he will only be getting better.

I really hope he gets over this lay off and comes back with a destructive perfomance over Coleman. I am 99% sure he’ll win (cant say 100% anymore after Nog-Mir) but I just want it to be the devastating all round performance the UFC fans deserve to see.

I understand it takes a lot to get back to his amazing displays of his former pride days but he wants to come back and show the UFC what he is truly capable of after the Forrest fight and he HATES Coleman too so to me that means FIREWORKS!

SMASH THAT OLD C**T INTO RETIREMENT SHOGUN!!

by Ca$z on Jan 5, 2009 11:12 AM EST up reply actions

tHanks ODamn! Ca$z…Im with you buddy! War Shogun!

by john on Jan 5, 2009 11:50 AM EST up reply actions

I also expect Shogun to win easily. I have to comment however on some of the classlessness and immature ignorance of some of the postings regarding Coleman’s age. Whether or not you you think Coleman will get his ass kicked, any “experienced” fighter or athlete should be respected and commended for having the drive and passion to attempt to compete vs. top competition. I dare say Coleman or any of the 40 plus yr old fighters have more drive in their little fingers than the combined total of those mocking Coleman’s age.

by CL on Jan 5, 2009 12:54 PM EST up reply actions

Point taken…I didn’t mean to sound disrespectful of his age but I’m sure my last comment made it sound that way. LOL

I definately respect anyone regardless of age who gets in with the best but the fact that he’s been around a long time and fought in top organisations makes him have my respect for sure.

I guess what I meant to say before was that Ive always wanted Coleman to lose in his fights just because I’m big fans of the people he has fought previously e.g. Shogun, Fedor, Nog, Crocop etc and even if it wasn’t Coleman I’d want Shogun to win this fight cos I want him to shine as the truly skilled warrior he is.

For me “the Hammer” has always had a bit of an ego problem that Ive never really liked which is why Ive always rooted for what I think to be the dont talk sh*t, speak with your hands type guys.

Come Jan 17th I expect Shogun to silence Coleman and the critics once and for all!

Yeah John…WAR SHOGUN 2009 and BEYOND!

by Ca$z on Jan 5, 2009 2:02 PM EST up reply actions

Good post and good points.

by CL on Jan 5, 2009 2:49 PM EST up reply actions

Hey John. Good insight. Are you still training Muay Thai, or just BJJ? Also, in another thread you mentioned you want to see Wandy vs. Hendo at 185lbs. Why not at 205? Because of possible Anderson match later on or some other reason?

by Victory is Ours on Jan 5, 2009 2:05 PM EST up reply actions

Ca$Z great points. those are some of the reason’s that I dont like the guy, but I agree he shouldnt be disrespected. Sorry if my comments came off that way! Most fights I have “my favorite” and then the other guy, who I bash until the fight happens.

Shogun is HOwever probably one of my top 3 favorites. I can not stand seeing him lose! Yes, I might be Guilty of a man crush, BroMance, call it what you will… All I know is when I think about Shogun fighting in the Octagon, I literally get chills!

WAR SHOGUN!

by john on Jan 5, 2009 5:06 PM EST up reply actions

Victory: Exactly! Winner of Hendo vs. Wanderlei 3 would instantly deserve a date with Anderson.

But now that I think about your post…I guess it wouldnt really matter if they fight at 205 lbs because Hendo is really small for 205 as well, so wandy wont be undersized.

I am just sick of seeing Wandy fighting bigger guys. Can u imagine if he is the Bigger guy? I think he is far from done but will have a problem in America at 205 because he is fighting big strong guys with great wrestling skills.

move down to 185 lbs, and Terrorize that sh*t! aNDERSON AND wANDERLEI SHOULD TRADE DIVISIONS!

Yes I am still doing Muy Tai as well as Jitsu…I train them both at the same school

Thanks for the props man

by john on Jan 5, 2009 5:11 PM EST up reply actions

The fight against Rogerio is a classic fight. Must watch that one again.

by RobH86 on Jan 5, 2009 6:56 PM EST up reply actions

Guys, nothing is sure in mma, nowadays.. I am just praying that this wont be another MIR-NOG scenario. WAR SHOGUN!!!

by titoortizfan on Jan 5, 2009 9:50 AM EST reply actions

a healthy shogun could stop coleman anywhere in my opinion. he looked good in the sparing sesh with cigano but i guess well see where he’s at health wise come fight time. i think he’s gonna mop up lhw and gobble rashad up like a suggar snack.

by jonsey on Jan 5, 2009 10:58 AM EST reply actions

my moneys on coleman shoguns only good when he can jump on peoples head when they are down

by R.e.s on Jan 5, 2009 11:05 AM EST reply actions

Yeah just like in the Randleman, and Little Nog fights right?

by Tyler on Jan 5, 2009 11:36 AM EST up reply actions

you got a point, the foot stomps and soccer kicks to the head were brutal and one of the chute box trademarks.

by O Damn he got caught on Jan 5, 2009 11:41 AM EST up reply actions

Also, while shogun loses the stomps and the soccer kicks, Coleman gains the cage and the elbows.

by O Damn he got caught on Jan 5, 2009 11:41 AM EST up reply actions

didn’t an elbow open up Forrest?

by Robert(1) on Jan 5, 2009 2:50 PM EST up reply actions

Yes an elbow opened up forrest buy it wasnt an elbow from bottom.

by belfort_fan on Jan 5, 2009 3:16 PM EST up reply actions

Wow, so when I say “Coleman gains the cage and elbows” you translate that to mean “Shogun never uses elbows at all”; I wish I too had the ability to change the meaning/context of posts to whatever I’d like them to be.

by O Damn he got caught on Jan 5, 2009 3:23 PM EST up reply actions

ill give shogun credit hes had some great fights them 2, rampage cant forget it,and more but i dont think hes 1# 205 in the world at or will be

by R.e.s on Jan 5, 2009 11:48 AM EST reply actions

well randleman is stronger than shogun too and look what happen!! the monster has nas no submeission defense but neither the hammer
when it hit the ground coleman its gonna tap!!!

by JoW on Jan 5, 2009 12:05 PM EST reply actions

I agree. Randleman is basically a younger version of Coleman. Stylistically they’re the same.

by MongoMan on Jan 5, 2009 1:07 PM EST up reply actions

On a side note, I do think it was a real dissapointing way to win a fight, I see Coleman’s point of view, that he hit the single, turned it into a double and Shogun posted his arm and broke it; but thats still no way to win a fight. It’s just not something I would be excited about or bragging about. He should graciously concede that the first fight ended prematurely and that the rematch will decide the better fighter. Instead Coleman’s said in previous interviews that if he were to win the same way again, he’d be perfectly happy with that. Given that I just can’t root for Coleman at all; thats not an honorable way to win a fight.

by O Damn he got caught on Jan 5, 2009 12:10 PM EST reply actions

I agree that it isnt the proper way to win a fight. But you have to remember that Coleman is way old school. He was counted out from the beginning. When Coleman was fighting in the UFC, it was basically no holds barred. You did it all besides eye gouging and biting. He is meat head with a gladiator personality.

I personally see Coleman winning this. Shogun needs more time to heal imo. He got submitted by Forrest with just a few seconds left. That has made me feel that his heart isnt in it.

Coleman by GnP stoppage.

by enzo-enormous on Jan 5, 2009 12:24 PM EST up reply actions

a win is a win! I hate when guys make excuses for a loss, so why condone an excuse for a win? it’s in the record books, let it be! he won!

by kevin on Jan 5, 2009 12:25 PM EST up reply actions

No doubt he got the W, I’m just saying it’s not something I would personally feel very good about bragging on. As a fan I can’t really put any stock in it, there’s no way I could say Coleman is great for beating Shogun or Shogun is not as good as I thought; I can’t say “Coleman is really improved, he fought a great fight”. In my book it’s an incomplete performance; IMO, it’s not just about winning but how the fight was won.

by O Damn he got caught on Jan 5, 2009 12:43 PM EST up reply actions

Exactly. It’s no way to win a fight. Yeah sure it’s a win but c’mon, by freak accident, that’s no way to win a fight. Much different if it was a broken arm like Cung Le Shamrock.

It would be like the guy that fought Corey Hill saying yeah I’m happy with the win, I snapped his leg by checking it, aren’t I great…Oh and I’d be happy to win like that again.

Okay so maybe the Corey Hill comparison is a little over the top given the severity of the fight but you get the idea.

by RobH86 on Jan 5, 2009 7:04 PM EST up reply actions

This isn’t like making excuse for a cold. He landed wrong and broke an arm. Yeah, he “won” but like enzo-enormous said it’s nothing to brag about. Nothing was proven in that fight so really Coleman needs to keep quiet.

by closb on Jan 5, 2009 3:11 PM EST up reply actions

I wonder if Coleman really thinks he will win. They all talk a big game pre-fight. He may just want to cash in on a bigger pay day than he used to get.

by Punch You in the Ovaries on Jan 5, 2009 12:30 PM EST reply actions

Have you ever watched Coleman be interviewed before or seen some of the backstage footage of him or a training session with him and Kevin Randleman or Phil Baroni? This guy absolutely believes he’s going to win. I just don’t see how though. Even in the first fight as short as it was a couple of times Shogun got a hold of Coleman’s leg but he got away and unless another freak injury happens I’d bet eventually Shogun gets a submission.

by Tyler on Jan 5, 2009 1:07 PM EST up reply actions

True that, Shogun was about to put on a Jits clinic; props to Coleman on the escapes though.

by O Damn he got caught on Jan 5, 2009 1:15 PM EST up reply actions

of course he does, anyone who’s ever competed in anything knows, if you don’t think you can win, you might as well not compete! thats why the mental aspect of fighting or sports in general is 90% mental!

by kevin on Jan 5, 2009 1:19 PM EST up reply actions

I was implying he might want a big payday. So $ is always a reason to compete. BTW, when I did fight, I wasn’t sure I was going to win. I fought HW when I should have fought lighter so I had to face a lot of guys larger than me. I thought I would lose my first three fights, but I didn’t. I was BJJ before people were fully on board so I won anyway. So skillset was 98%. But yeah, when talent and training is close, the mental aspect becomes the deciding factor.

by Punch You in the Ovaries on Jan 5, 2009 8:28 PM EST up reply actions

No, I haven’t seen much of coleman at all since the old days. I wonder how he will look roid-free. I might actually be pulling for him though. I have and affinity for old crusty bastards.

by Punch You in the Ovaries on Jan 5, 2009 1:23 PM EST up reply actions

He’ll probably look similar to the got that fought Fedor in 2006 minus 20 lbs.

by Tyler on Jan 5, 2009 5:41 PM EST up reply actions

i think if cole doesn t catch him early he ll gas and shogun will put him down

by R.e.s on Jan 5, 2009 3:20 PM EST reply actions

When was the last time Coleman actually beat someone in the sport of MMA? And I’m not talking about the Rua fight, that was just luck for Coleman.

by Nick on Jan 5, 2009 3:41 PM EST reply actions

Well considering this is his first fight since 2006 it’s been awhile.

by Wash your Nutz Off on Jan 5, 2009 4:17 PM EST up reply actions

i want coleman to win but i think shogun will.

by Jared on Jan 5, 2009 4:03 PM EST reply actions

Coleman will be quicker at 205 and maybe have better cardio. He says he’s going to stand with him and I hope he KO’s Shogun, but if not Shogun has twice been choked out (Griffin, Sobral).

by CaptainAmerica1967 on Jan 5, 2009 5:23 PM EST reply actions

Or maybe worse cardio due to the weight cut. We will see.

by RobH86 on Jan 5, 2009 7:06 PM EST up reply actions

Shogun is too quick for him. He’s more explosive and I think he’ll take this one easy.

by DB on Jan 5, 2009 8:43 PM EST reply actions

I hope Coleman takes it.. it would suck to see him come in and lose, but he probebly will.
