Josh Koscheck next fight possible at UFC 95 in London Feb. 21

Perhaps the biggest gamer in the welterweight division today, Josh Koscheck (12-3), will likely compete for the third time in four months when he participates on the upcoming UFC 95 card, which is slated for The O2 Arena in London, England, on February 21.
MMAmania.com learned this weekend that the American Kickboxing Academy (AKA) member has been approached about beefing up an event that could need a little more of it. The promotion has done a nice job of filling up the card with solid match ups after the services of marquee attractions such as Chuck Liddell and Anderson Silva could not be secured, but the Spike TV special could use a little more star power.
And the addition of the collegiate national wrestling champion would do just that.
Koscheck most recently annihilated the very dangerous Japanese fighter, Yoshiyuki Yoshida, at UFC Fight Night 16: "Fight for the Troops" with a scary-looking two-punch knockout on December 10. He defeated "Zenko" just six weeks after losing to number one division contender Thiago Alves at UFC 90 via unanimous decision back on October 25.
He took the fight against the bruising Brazilian on less than 14 days notice to replace an injured Diego Sanchez. It didn't go his way, but it's hard to hold it against him.
The former contestant on The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) has won three of his last four fights -- he knocked off Dustin Hazelett and Chris Lytle before the Alves loss -- and appears that he is willing to do whatever it takes -- and fight as often as possible -- to get back in the 170-pound title chase.
No possible opponent is known at this time, but it may not matter -- Koscheck appears down to fight anyone. Based on our previous interviews with Koscheck, it would appear that this is the last fight on his contract.
Let's hope that changes before he steps inside the Octagon once again on Feb. 21.
UFC 95 currently features the highly anticipated lightweight debut of Diego Sanchez against Joe Stevenson in the main event of the evening. Middleweights Nate Marquardt and Wilson Gouveia, as well as Demian Maia and Chael Sonnen, are also expected to mix it up in two very important division clashes.

I agree, I’m not a Kos fan by any means, but I’m a big supporter of someone fighting 4 times a year rather than 2…Kos fits that profile!

I have to agree. I wish all the fighters would fight on this schedule unless they suffer injury.

Its a shame that there isnt anyone left for Kos to fight.
I hate the guy but like Kev said props for fighting often!

I wonder what will happen to him if….he wins this next fight in nasty fashion like his last one….and if still refuses to sign his image over to Dana for use in the video game? The impression was given that Dana was bullying the fighters over this, and as far as I know, Kos was the only person with a set hanging low enough to refuse.

hey chef, you like the kimono dragon pic!?
by kevin on Jan 4, 2009 1:05 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Kimodo dragon??? lol, yeah, I’ve seen a dozen Animal planet specials about them. Interesting, nasty, strangely beautiful big mofo’s!

LOL, I know, I just didn’t respond clearly, hehe. That would’ve been interesting to go their. Richmond doesn’t have much of a zoo. It’s only impressive in that it started up as someone’s back yard with a collection of exotic birds. I would go to d.c.‘s zoo, but I hate (i don’t normally hate anything, but here I mean it) driving around northern virginia/d.c. Nutcases and psycopaths by the million. Where did you guys go to eat?
by chefdaddy on Jan 4, 2009 4:51 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
had reservations christmas at aqua blu, got there and it was closed (I wasn’t too happy)! ended up eating at the westin restaurant, they had a 4 course meal. Crab bisque, salad, new york strip and dessert. It was very good. Had breakfast there the next day, I’m not much of a breakfast guy, but I had the best chorizo omelet ever!
Had lunch at a place called Asti one day, I( had veal parm, it was great!
just a bar and grill dinner sat (ufc was on) and ate at a place near lego land on fri. I could have gone for a lot more nice restaurants, but the 2 we ate at were great!
how’s the new job?!!

could you guys perhaps just e-mail each other or exchange phone numbers with all the personal stuff? it would be much apreciated.

kevin, new job not bad. the guy I just replaced had a really bad system, and it’s going to screw my numbers up for a while (inaccurate and miscategorized inventory). But all in all, it might not be the living breathing h#ll I first envisioned. lol

jonsey, but thank you at least for asking nicely. Didn’t want to sound like too much of a d*ck. lol

lol, sorry jonsey, I try to keep it mma related, but sometimes I don’t! at least you weren’t a dick about it though!

I can tell you who the fight will not be against: Mike Swick or John Fitch.
by El_Mexicutioner, formerly The _Mexicutioner on Jan 4, 2009 11:02 AM EST reply actions 0 recs
Yeah, its hard to guess who they’ll put him against, as hes fought nearly everyone at the top of the WW division… Lets see, theres Chris Wilson.. damn. I can’t think of anyone else! Unless they bring in a new guy.

this card is really looking like a flop… i mean diego sanchez/joe stevenson main event? that about says it all right there, thats worse than bisping/leben main event
by brendan on Jan 4, 2009 9:20 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
im goin to this event but id really like a nice 205 fight, even houston alexander/jardine/boetch/cain would be nice, maybe even heath herring in a bout?? what you guys think?

i’d like to see rumble beat the snot out of him that would be a good fight.

Starting to like Kos these days the guys is down to throw. He likes to fight and wants to fight more than anyone else in the ufc!
by DBG on Jan 4, 2009 12:01 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
Koscheck vs. Johnson would be a pretty sweet match but I think Rumble is scheduled to fight Fioravanti sometime soon, which i am less excited about…
I think Paul Kelly or Ben Saunders would make for interesting bouts.
by Jon on Jan 4, 2009 12:06 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
Rumble vs. Koscheck would be an awesome fight, it’s unfortunate that a lot of these good WW’s are currently booked for up coming fights, and also that Koscheck trains with Swick and Fitch. Now would be a great time to bring in Paul Daley or Jake Shields, anything else would be a step back in competition for Kos

I really wasn’t a fan of Kos until recently myself. The kids got a ton of heart and natural talent as well. I just don’t think he’ll ever hold the WW belt for the UFC. I would like to see him vs. “rumble” in a war.
by allamerican on Jan 4, 2009 12:11 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
It’s tough to call someone who fights anyone a gatekeeper, but I don’t ever see him winning the title! I wish he and Fitch would fight already!
hey allamerican, how was the daiquiri deck?
check out my san diego pics!

WAR KOS dude loves to fight and hes a deadly fighter lets, hopefully they can find a decent opponent
by Jared on Jan 4, 2009 12:27 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
KOS has looked fantastic lately – even when he lost to Thiago he looked good. He has a deadly right hand and solid wrestling. I could definitely see him earning a title shot again someday.
by stevo on Jan 4, 2009 12:46 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
kos never had a title shot. and he never will cause his buddy fitch is the number 1 contender and kos won’t fight fitch.

Don’t like him either, but i admire fighters who fight often.
Not like dbags like Serra.. i mean, once every 1½ year? Rofl.
by Lester the Pimp on Jan 4, 2009 2:27 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
Solid wrestling stevo? He couldn’t take thiago down once, and over the hill, slow motion matt hughes took alves down once the fight before. His KO didn’t overly impress me either, the guy he was fighting looked out of it and looked like a deer in the headlights.
by nathan on Jan 4, 2009 3:07 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
well the only reason hughes was able to take alves down was because alves threw a knee right to his face and hughes one defense was grabbing on to the leg and sitting him down which he did

solid wrestling? 4 time ncaa division 1 all american, and a national champion!!

I used to dislike Kos very much but am turning around, he impressed me with his attitude before and after his last 2 fights even though he lost one of them. He is a real fighter anytime anywhere anyone he just wants to fight. Im starting to like him and he is pretty funny guy with tons of skill and heart.

Put him up against Matt Riddle!!! haha, I’ve been wanting to see Riddle fight again for the longest time and that would an AWESOME match-up…Even if Kos knocks him out…
MATT RIDDLE MATT RIDDLE MATT RIDDLE!
by BrutalKnockout. on Jan 4, 2009 3:19 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
if davis beats lytle and gets away without injury, i think kos should fight him. that would be a solod match up.
by Bass on Jan 4, 2009 3:19 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
Most don’t like him cause of his cockyness but respect him for his abilities and the fact hes always down to fight anytime, anywhere, and anyone (maybe with exception to Fitch and Swick lol).
I think KOS would destroy Swick but KOS vs Fitch would be GREAT and needs to happen. There would be no bad blood they could still train together for the fight!!! it would just be a competition! would be awesome!
is “The Irish Hand Grenade” scheduled to fight soon!? if not give him to KOS. Also, what about Jared Rolins, his fight with War Machine was GREAT!
KOS has talked about it before, and if he could manage it without completely draining himself, itwould be cool to see himdrop to 155. If he could retain all his same in-cage attributes and abilites with the cut, i could see him one day as the 155 champ! ( once BJ and Sherk are gone)
by SoCalStunNa on Jan 4, 2009 3:33 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
hes on ufc 93 against chris lytle
talking about sherk that would be cool if he moved up and fought kos
by iann on Jan 4, 2009 4:42 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
This will be the much rumoured co-main event, so Koscheck has to fight someone half decent. I’d like to see Koscheck fight Hazelett again, that would be awesome.

by BrutalKnockout. on Jan 4, 2009 7:00 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
I think karo us fighting soon.
I would love to see that one, or even Sherk (If he wanted to beef up a bit).
Serra will be on tap for Hughs, I would love to see Denis Kang move down.
Maybe UFC will purchase a few Foreign Pride fighters like Akiyama. Fitch and Swick would be great, thats BS that they wont fight… I say drop the ones that wont let er pound.
The UFC should have made BJ take him on as a prep for GSP. Instead of giving BJ a big opportunity for nothing…
Maybe there is someone in the Wolfslair waiting for a go… They and Jacksons camp have impressed me as of late.
What about Chris Leben or some other Middle weight.
by Prince E. on Jan 4, 2009 7:08 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
i think fitch should move up for some reason i dont know why i just have this feeling he’d be good for a middleweight
plus he is a pretty big welterweight
to me hes like the rich franklin of welterweight lol hes done all that he could at welterweight so he should move up
by iann on Jan 4, 2009 10:23 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
If he can beef up lol good one, Im sure thats something a couple cycles can handle. Sorry guys I just cant see how Sherk gets love from anyone.
