Hardest to beat p4p id say, best? no way.

by medecine balls on Jan 4, 2009 12:36 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

kinda hard to say that when he has never held a belt, but he is definitely on his way. Technically one of the best.

by c-war on Jan 4, 2009 12:58 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

But isn’t that the point. He doesn’t let it go because he’s technical and doesn’t waste moves. There’s nothing to let go dana, this is the next evolution of the sport. Better find a way to promote it otherwise, Machida will have to go somewhere else to get a title.

by NameNotRequired on Jan 4, 2009 3:18 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I actually think Dana made some good points. once Machida gets comfortable in the cage he is going to be ridiculous to beat!

The guy is a technical Genius….He will eventually let it all go and become one of the greats!

by john on Jan 5, 2009 7:55 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Namenotrequired: Go back and watcvh Nakamura vs. Machida. In that fight Machida let it go, and looked like a TERROR! The more he gets comfortable, the more performances he will have like that one…and if he fights like that he will be very tough to beat, and very hard to be called “Boring”.

Personally, I love the guy!

Look at Rashad! At 1st he used to bore the crap out of everyone. He got comfortable and now he is Destroying dudes!

by john on Jan 5, 2009 9:59 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Another bunch of bull from dana here. 1st he says Machida is boring, then he builds him up. What’s next, him tellin us Stun Gun is the next Anderson Silva II? Give me a break…

by definition, they’re the same damn thing

by sigh on Jan 4, 2009 12:59 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

What i meant is all the higher level fighters are going to come at you, in which case you can possibly score a flash ko. You have a chance at beating a guy that, even if hes better than you are. With Machida, hes going to circle the cage and strike for points. How do you beat that guy?

by medecine balls on Jan 4, 2009 5:50 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

he’ will be beaten in the next year and a half. it’s gonna take a sweet gameplan and an agressive fighter though.

by jonsey on Jan 4, 2009 10:31 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

this pound for pound thing is so ridiculous now. it really doesnt mean much anymore, dont think it ever did actually. In order to see who really would be best pound for pound, fighters that are considered top pound for pound need to actually fight each other! They need to dabble in different weight classes to cement who is better. If not, then just call them the best within their respective weight class only. The only one that has truly proven to be a successful fighter and(champion) at that is BJ PENN! Having fought in 3 different weight classes and be champion in two, now thats POUND FOR POUND! For example: There are so many fighters out there anderson could and should be demanding at this point in his career (like bj who so courageously does w others) So many dream matchups…rampage, shogun, LYOTO, BJ yet he seems to be content with fighting the irvins and cotes.

by blah. anything can/and will happen in MMA on Jan 4, 2009 2:46 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

You just don’t get it man. It’s like a fantasy comparison, so you can’t pit ’em against each other because they hail from different divisions. Oh, guys, please explain…They explained it before here…

Sounds like mr dana white is trying to hype Machida up for the next title shot

by Liddell-Marquardt-GSP-Sherk on Jan 4, 2009 2:59 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Best at running away from there opponent p4p…yes.

by nathan on Jan 4, 2009 12:39 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

It’s not running away, its a form of fighting, its not like he ran away like kalib stans thats running away, he moves away and attacks when he finds an opening, their’s a difference Karate is all about finding openings and thats what he does and is the best at it, so ya he does have all the potential to be P4P-

by ricky on Jan 4, 2009 2:07 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

anderson would kill him, so would fedor, gsp, and penn…not even in the same league as these guys

Penn lost to him.

lol have you seen the fight?

by rctrue on Jan 4, 2009 1:58 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I know I’m aware of that but it was damn close and Penn is a natural lightweight…so on a p4p perspective, penn would kill him

by ja434650 on Jan 4, 2009 2:00 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Last I checked: Machida 1, Penn, um well less than 1.

by sigh on Jan 4, 2009 1:00 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I just watched that fight on You Tube and I have to say I think speaks more to Penn’s talent. Alothough I hate to admit that. Hopefully AdamG isn’t reading.

well said mate im sick of people slagging off a top fighter like machida this guy 100% deserves a title shot his style isnt running away at all its moving in fast with a decent kick/punch/kneee wotever then moving away from the danger i think its brilliant to watch

by boyer on Jan 4, 2009 4:01 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Word up boyer! Anyone who doesnt accept Machida for the amazing tactician he is can suck a D$%#. Though i will say the Penn win didnt meant shit. BJ went the distance at 205, thats impressive for BJ, not Lyoto.

Depends who Dana like at any given minute, and who he is pissed at. I would say he is not to happy with Silva right now, so he is trying to build up some else.

Dana said has the potential to be the best P4P, not is. The only person he ever says definitively IS the best P4P is A. Silva. It’s reasonable to say that Machida could be if he reaches his full potential.

He does not have to build Lyoto up,people may not like his style ,but he is probably the best LHW there is,what is he 13-0 or is 14-0 the record speaks for it self

Dana is such a tool, he always blames Fedor’s camp for being stupid, its never Dana fault he is to much of an arrogant a$$ to admit it. Bigger than soccer or the NFL, Dana please put down the crack pipe.

by Bigmcmac on Jan 4, 2009 1:09 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Dana is a better business man, better athlete, and smarter human than 99% of people. He’s taken a sport we all love and provided us inclreasing talent and ever-improving matchups. And yet, dumber, weaker, lesser men will sit and bash him all day. I’d like to say thanks to Dana for giving me something to look forward to twice a month.

by Punch You in the Ovaries on Jan 4, 2009 2:27 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Dana is not a better business man than 99% of men, come on, he is riding a wave of MMA and was lucky to get in when he did. I love watching the events like I said before, and I also pay for them, but I know the audience has probably peaked and may rise about 10% a year if they are lucky, so a statement like MMA being bigger than the NFL shows Dana’s ignornace and arrogance.Yeah Dana was an arobics instructor so I guess you can say he was kinda and athelete.

by Bigmcmac on Jan 4, 2009 7:15 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

99% of people who read this blog is what I meant to say. He benches 315lbs with no problem. That probably tops most people here. And I think he had a lot to do with the MMA wave being created in the first place. (The recent wave, not MMA in general). The fact that he makes bold staements like “bigger than NFL” shows drive. All the weatlhy guys I know make statements like this. If it’s arrogance, it seems to be assist in success.

by Punch You in the Ovaries on Jan 4, 2009 9:38 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Well think about a little bit,a fighter wants to cement his legacy, and make the most money possible doing it.Dana has openly said he wants Fedor, who is it that keeps ducking who,Like it are not,UFC is known threw out the world of MMA as the top organization. Why does he keep ducking UFC they are willing to pay just as much as Affliction if not more, plus if it is about competetion,All of the great HW want to fight Fedor, which means that they would follow him to UFC,I personally believe that his management knows that he is seen as the top fighter in the world ,and they do not want to do anything to jeapordize that, they do not know how he will react in the cage plus,he already has the title of best fighter why risk it,and lose out on all the money that comes with that title,if he loses,it all goes down the drain

by Scott on Jan 4, 2009 3:01 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Dana is a douche bag sometimes, but I have heard him on his video blog when he got Randy back clearly tell Fedor come to the UFC on the phone. His management is ducking the UFC.

by Scott on Jan 4, 2009 3:04 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Yeah you’re right. Fedor’s management is ducking the UFC because they refuse to have Fedor tied down with an exclusive one sided contract the UFC wants him to sign. He wouldn’t be allowed to compete anywhere else or make appearances that includes competing in Sambo and fighting in Japan or Russia again which I heard he wants to do. Not to mention the UFC’s negotiating rights with contracts are ridiculous. Example Tito Ortiz’s fight contract expired after UFC 84 in May. Then the UFC had exclusive negotiating rights with him until Oct. Now until June if he signs with another promotion the UFC has the right to match any offer. A year after his last fight. That’s crazy!

by Tyler on Jan 4, 2009 3:12 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

dana wants complete control of anyone he signs to a contract. fedor wants to manage his own career. he agreed to fight randy but dana wouldn’t pay his price. Dana doesn’t allow any of his fighters to fight anywhere else and fedor wants to fight the best everywhere, but not give up his freedom to do it. he wants a title shot in the ufc, but doesn’t want a contract just a one fight deal. that way he controls his own destiny. he doesn’t have to fight who dana wants him to fight. if all fighters did this we could see the best fight the best. i wouldn’t sign my career over to someone else. dana acts like there is no money in mma. do you believe the fertitta bros would invest in no money. danas ten percent is worth 250 million.

by Buttcrack Obama bin Laden on Jan 4, 2009 3:27 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I’ve never taken sides on this. If Fedor doesn’t want to give over control, that’s his perogative. If Dana doesn’t want risk his product (the fighters) by letting them fight elsewhere while under contract, I get that too. If you pay a lot for something you don’t want it to get broken before you get full use of it. Tyler and Buttcrack, you both make good arguments, but we don’t know how “crazy” these “crazy Russian managers” have actually been. If I were Fedor and really thougth I was the best in the world, I’d give up my freedom for a short contract to go prove myself.

And we don’t pro football players compaining that they can’t play Arena Football while under contract with the NFL. I don’t think Dana is out of line. If he didn’t have that “I want to dominate this sport” attitude, he probably wouldn’t be as successful as he has been. It takes a feircely competitive spirit to pull off what he has.

Shit, I wish they could just sign fedor for a single fight in the UFC. Pay him $1M. Then if he gets exposed, great. If not, maybe it would open the doors to more negotiation.

by Punch You in the Ovaries on Jan 4, 2009 4:05 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Who the hell is in the UFC that can “expose” Fedor? No one. Unless you wait maybe 5 years and Velasquez reaches his potential and Fedor gets older.

by Kick you in the Nutz on Jan 4, 2009 11:06 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

That’s the big debate Kick. Some say he’s a farce and others say he’s the best in the world. It’d be nice if we didn’t have to speculate and he could get signed to at least a one-fight deal with the UFC.

by Punch You in the Ovaries on Jan 5, 2009 12:22 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

No one of any substance has said he’s a farce except Dana and Lorenzo Fertitta and their opinion is irrelevant because they have an agenda. Which is to lie and protect their brand. It doesn’t sound credible to tell people your promotion is the best but you don’t have the best fighter in the world. It sounds much better to say he’s a fraud and his record is irrelevant. They can get away with it because no one in the media is going to call them on their lie. If they do they get their credentials pulled and are banned from UFC press conferences and conference calls and don’t ask anymore tough questions. I will ask again who in the UFC right now can beat Fedor and the answer is?

by Kick you in the Nutz on Jan 5, 2009 3:00 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Bigmcmac, try thinking about it logically for a minute. It is a FACT that 200 plus guys at any given momment have NO PROBLEM signing on the dotted line. One guy (Fedor) has a problem. Do the math, it is obviously Fedor who is unreasonable. Also Randy tried to set up a fight with Fedor independent of the UFC and Fedor wouldn’t go for that either. Lets face it Fedor knows Nog and CC got completely owned and he could only beat them by decision. Fedor would rather be a big fish in a little pond than take a chance on tarnishing his record in the UFC.

by Gord on Jan 4, 2009 3:58 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I watch pretty much all the UFC events, I even pay for them, I just think Dana is a wanker and shouldn’t bash every other organization out there and every fighter that doesn’t fight in the UFC. I also believe Shinya Aoki said he will never fight in the UFC, but would like to fight BJ, but it will never happen unless BJ walks away from the UFC. Fedor’s only fight in the UFC would be Lesnar, so why would he sign to fight one guy when there are more HW that will fight anywhere for Affliction or Dream.

by Bigmcmac on Jan 4, 2009 7:06 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I agree. Dana says Fedor can’t say he’s the best unless he fights the best(namely UFC fighters). Fedor could say the same thing about Mir or Lesnar. They can’t say they’re the best until they’ve fought the best; Fedor.

by MrFyer on Jan 4, 2009 7:28 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

people need to relax on the p4p talk… watch the video again, he’s talkin about the future not presently p4p. It’s hard to predict the future of a fighter as it is, so quit getting your panties in a bunch.

by midwestbred on Jan 4, 2009 1:15 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

P4P is kind of deceptive, its pretty difficult to figure out. Some of the light weight “P4P” could be the best. Anderson silva clearly seems to be heads and shoulders above anyone else in there division. No champ in any other division is as dominant. Lyoto is very impressive and most likely will be champ some day, he just doesn’t destroy his opponents like silva does. It’s silvas style of fighting that makes him look so good, lyoto is kind of a points fighter, anderson has vicious mauy tai skills and most likely the best in MMA so obviously he gets the most ko’s which looks better. Grapplers who win on points and subs don’t look as good and are more boring to most, but a really good grappler might easily be able to beat silva, but pretty much everyone plays silva’s game. The guy who beats silva is going to really have to know in his mind he’ll lose on his feet, has explosive shots, can take silva down at will and has superior bjj or ground and pound. Lutter was the only guy IMO who fought silva intelligently so far and didn’t even bother to try and strike with him, but he got caught with an up kick, end of story. I really don’t know WHO the best pound for pound fighter is and think its impossible to really know. Its all subjective but most seem to think its penn, gsp, silva or fedor mainly because there the most dominant in there weight class. Maybe in time lyoto will be the next guy on the p4p list if he dominates the light heavy weight class, it could happen.

by nathan on Jan 4, 2009 1:27 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Actually agree, Machida could be very good.

Right now he’s still too concerned about winning and doing whatever it takes to win, which means being elusive and getting the decision. And he’s undefeated too, which is even worse… there’s pressure to protect his perfect record.

When he begins to lose and learn from that and focus on finishing people, he’ll be good. Lots of great champions like GSP learn from their defeats and end up better. Machida needs that to happen soon, until then he’ll be boring and not the champion fighter he could be.

by gimel on Jan 4, 2009 1:28 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

I like Lyoto. When he beats Rashad, I’ll like him even more. I think his style is great change of pace. Even if he doesn’t get a knockout, it’s like watching people try to catch a greaed pig…it’s entertaining in a different way. And he does throw shots. It’s never a full-out Kalib sprint. And he’s a class act.

Watching this, Dana brings up the respect and discipline factor several times. He’s in another country selling the UFC product and he mentions the positive impact it can have for youth and repeatedly emphasizes that it’s not vale-tudo. This is why I get annoyed when Rashad grabs his dick during a fight or Brock laughs and points like a toddler. The image matters. Even if some of us aren’t personally offended by the antics, I think it makes selling the UFC tougher.

Dana White’s comments about fighters are meaningless because the guy’s not an objective observer. He has a clear bias. So why give a shit what he says about any of them before too long he’ll be calling Brock Lesnar the best heavyweight in the world.

I do think dana is pissed at anderson though, as he doesnt really show much commitment to the long term future of the sport which has to annoy dana.

Id love to see rashad v machida, 2 young quick fit guys in their prime battle it out!!

by mo on Jan 4, 2009 2:12 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

ja434650 wa do u mean bj would kill him on a p4p basis sure they were both at close weights and machida won and since then aswel as bj machida has improved unbelievably and he is far more conditioned like bj. And its just a matter of time before lyoto will be champion its just whether or not the UFC give him a title shot in his prime or not! Unfortunately he is very friendly with anderson silva and they said they wouldnt fight each other but i believe that would be the best MMA match ever as lyoto is the only person i could see ever beating anderson silva!

anyone else agree that wanderlei is 2 small in height for 205 and should move down to 185 were the guys would go down easier from his shots????

and Henderson should also lik i mean if lyoto wont get the chance to fight silva i believe Henderson gettin a second bite at the cherry at 185 could again pose problems for anderson lik i mean Hendo won the 1st round in their fight if he could just keep it on the ground controlling!

I just hope he doesnt want to stay at 205 after the franklin fight!

I agree bigmcmac the UFC will never be bigger than the major sports, NFL, NHL, baseball and soccer. People that like fighting are by far the minority. I think Dana is delusional, its the fastest growing sport only because its so small, like a little business compared to a large corporation the little business if successful will grow much quicker than the already established corporation.

by nathan on Jan 4, 2009 2:50 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

actually what makes it where it could be bigger is the fact that outside of America nobody really cares about Football,NFL gets better ratings than MLB,so odviously that can be acheived,he is not saying head to head in America ,he is talking in a global sense, now it will never be able to take Soccer, but I do not care who you are, almost everybody in this world loves to see a good fight,it is human nature .

by Scott on Jan 4, 2009 3:14 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

agreed. That’s what makes a visionary visionary. It’s hard to imagine, but I believe it could grow to be bigger globally even if America still watches more football.

It won’t be long before the fighter salaries are high enough in the UFC that it won’t make sense for these guys to want to fight anywhere else. It will be like MLB player wanting his contract to allow for him to play minor league games. As the UFC makes more money, I believe that a portion of that money will make it’s way to the fighters and eventually solve this issue.

by Punch You in the Ovaries on Jan 4, 2009 4:38 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Not entirely, because people making their name in Japan might still make more money there after trying their hands at the UFC.

by ProKev on Jan 4, 2009 5:21 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

This is a response to the assertion that Machida is a boring fighter by too many people.

Ok, Lyoto fights intelligently he counter strikes and avoids damage instead of standing there and getting busted up. Most people who train and are actual fighters appreciate his style(the ones I know at least). I enjoy a Wandelei slug fest as much as the next red blooded man but to discredit a fighter because he doesn’t stand there and get his face smashed in is ridiculous. Lets examine the term MMA. Mixed Martial Arts.

This obviously means that all styles of Martial Arts are acceptable as long as you follow the guidelines set up by the promotion they are fighting for. Not only are they acceptable but it is part of the allure of the sport.

It is unfortunate that there are many people who would rather watch two brutes stand in the middle of the ring and wail on each other instead of a true display of art & discipline.

My irrelevant 2 cents.

Here is a counter arguement:

UFC stands for Ultimate Fighting Championship. Notice the word “Fighting” is in there. A fighter is one who engages in battle. That is not Machida. He is a martial artist but not a fighter.

If I wanted to see someone dancing around, I will watch Dancing with the Stars.

I would agree prokev. I appreciate the fact that Lyoto is a tactician and can pick fighters apart over the duration of 3 rounds, but even in PPV events after the fighters dance around in circles for a few seconds the crowd starts to boo.. people just want to see two guys exchange and get bloodied up. I would much rather watch two stand up artists exchange than the so called fight between tito and machida.

lyoto is dope! he uses his head to win. its a shame there isnt more engaging actions in his general game plan, but thats the beauty of it. frustrating opponents but its frustrating for us too at times. i mean he does throw strikes in his fights. the machida/bonnar fight was sick. the only one i can think of that was outstandingly boring was tito/machida. penn/machida was sick. i wish bj won though.HAHA

TEAM HAWAII!
GO BJ!!

True Machida finds a way to win, and is very good, but p4p best? I just watched his last fight again and im shocked people would even consider giving him that title. He moves away the whole time (not running but evading) and the strikes he does throw are extremely weak and straight into Titos blocking arms. If he was truly p4p champ, he should of had no problem finishing an already done for Tito. He has gone to decision 4 times out of 5 matches in the ufc. In my opinion, a p4p champ should be dominating and able to end fights.

I’ve never seen anyone run more than Machida, I bet if he decides to stand and throw punches you’ll see he has a glass jaw. Pound 4 pound my butt. Thiago will whoop by a$$ no doubt.

Well then how come you have not given him a title shot yet. Rashad will Knock him out no doubt!!!!
