Bobby Lashley next fight for Palace Fighting Championship (PFC) Feb. 6

The California-based mixed martial arts promotion, Palace Fighting Championships (PFC), today confirmed a huge (literally) acquisition to its roster -- former WWE superstar Bobby Lashley (6'3", 265 pounds) has inked a two-fight deal and will compete on an upcoming event at the Tachi Palace Hotel & Casino in Lemoore on February 6.

An opponent has not yet been announced at this time for the American Top Team (ATT) recruit; however, company officials have stated that it has some credible options on the table.

Lashley recently made his professional mixed martial arts debut with a first round technical knockout win over Joshua Franklin at Mixed Fighting Alliance: "There Will Be Blood" at the American Airlines Arena in Miami, Fla., on December 13. He overwhelmed his opponent right from the get-go, opening up a gnarly fight-ending gash on his head only 41 seconds into the bout.

While it wasn't a true showcase of Lashley's developing mixed martial arts skills, it was an impressive performance nonetheless. Now training with one of the most highly regarded camps in the world, ATT, the potential is almost limitless for a guy with the background, size and athletic ability of Lashley.

Here's the big man's thoughts on his new team from an interview with FiveOuncesofPain.com last month:

"When I got down to the American Top Team, that’s when everything really started coming together. These guys are serious down here. You go in the gym any day of the week and you’re not just pitter pattering with a few decent fighters, you’re training with the best. There’s just so many people at ATT and they’re taking the game of mixed martial arts to a whole new level."

Also worth a mention is that 170-pound judo specialist, Hector Lombard (17-2-1), has signed with the promotion and will be in action on the February 6 card, too. "Shango" was supposed to fight Karo Parisyan at UFC 78, but had visa issues and never made his way back onto another UFC card.

He also signed with Elite XC last year, but never got a chance to compete for promotion before it went out of business in October. In short, his debut on American soil is long overdue. Fernando Gonzalez (13-6), loser of three out of his last four fights, is being mentioned as a possible opponent.

Anthony Johnson originally was thought to be taking on Mike Swick at UFN 17 but is now fighting Luigi Fioravanti at ufn 17

for me i would rather have seen the swick fight, but sorry for being off topic, i think if Lashley picks up another win or maybe 2 he will then sign with the UFC, def by the end of 09

That sucks, Mike Swick probly ducked him, that’s right i said it. Swick is talking about fighting Alves after looking like crap against Burkman and Davis. The goulet fight proved nothing other than Goulet’s chin will always keep him on the bottom rung on the WW division.

I cant stand Swick! Dont sleep om Luigi. He will be an exciting opponent for Rumble

DREAM will be holding Featherweight and Welterweight Grand prix’s this year. Shinya Aoki has already expressed interest in participating in the welterweight grand prix

looks like bobby is taking a mean dump in this picture

The featherweight GP should be awesome(hope they can get guys from shooto like lion. hioki) but i can’t think anyone at WW that’s remotely good in Japan. It might end up with guys from everywhere moving up/down.

Big deal!!!! If I cared who Swick is fighting, I would have CARED!!! This is about Lashley. You open with that crap? Lashley is on the way to the UFC. He has (Maybe), more power than Brock.I think it is very close. And if he was in the UFC, he would be in the top 3 with Brock and Kosh. in wrestling. Think about it for a minute, that is all Brock has is power and wrestling. And lungs but Lashley followed the same path to get there.

NAMENOTREQUIRED: I am also really looking forward to the welterweight and featherweight DREAM grand Prix’s. Kid Yammamotto is going to win the featherweight!

LIke you said, I have a feeling that lightweights like Aoki and Alvarez will move up to take part in the welterweight tournament. Aoki already announced that he will participate.

Check out this video of Dana White talking about Machida and UFC expanding to Brazil. Interesting to see what high regards Dana hold Machida in!

it would b good to have this guy fight maybe 5 or 6 times before entering the ufc! it would be an intresting fight between himself and lesnar, huge money maker that one! this guy is very humble from his interviews, i hope he does well!

by jslim on Jan 3, 2009 5:15 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

I hope this guy does well in the future. I’d like to see him fight Brock. If he learns alot and becomes well rounded, I think he’d be one of the few guys who could beat Brock (Shane Carwin would be the other).

He does have the same amateur championship-caliber wrestling background that Brock has. Of course, Lashley wrestled at 171 pounds in college and now has to cut to make the 265 limit. Probably bulked up naturally.

i read that pfc has brad imes under contract as well, i honestly think that would be a good barometer of where lashley stands. imes is probably only a top 30 hw, but lashley is very raw.

by b.w. on Jan 3, 2009 5:19 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

That would be a good fight for Lashley!

by JV on Jan 3, 2009 5:29 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Yeah I agree. Has anyone seen Lashley’s 1st fight?

2 years from now the UFC heavyweight title fight will be Lesnar vs. Lashly! lMAO, gOd I hope not!

by john on Jan 3, 2009 6:32 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

his first fight lasted like a min maybe 2 it was filmed from a hand held camera that just filmed the big screen the whole time, Got the other guy down and punched or elbowed and tko stoppage due to cut, it was a legit stop tho. If they didnt stop it then all he would have had to do is hit the cut one more time and it would have prolly been like Eastman’s axe wound haha

by ehoglund on Jan 3, 2009 7:12 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I saw it, he looked much better then i thought he would. So soon and all. Lesnar – Lashley for a title… Ugh id cry.

by medecine balls on Jan 3, 2009 7:14 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

It lasted :41. Yes 41 seconds.And Franklin’s fore-head was hanging.

by iagoof22 on Jan 3, 2009 7:38 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I am not impressed by Mike Swick. Goulet has a glass chin and it was proved once again. He has one quality EXTREMELY lackluster victory against an injured Marcus Davis (ya ya ya, I know every fighter comes in injured).

But on the subject of BL, great move training with ATT, not sure where he was at before though. Anybody know if he was at a camp or just doing his own thing like Brock.

by WB on Jan 3, 2009 5:25 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

He was no where before, i think as soon as he decided to go to mma he went to ATT, and i think he would murder Imes, i have no evidence to back it up but thats just what i think will happen. Lashley got a weak win with the cut but i think he was going to get the win regardless. Prolly by GnP.

by ehoglund on Jan 3, 2009 5:38 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

weak win in terms that it happen so fast, it was def a justified cut stoppage. Had to make that clear before i got hated on hard

by ehoglund on Jan 3, 2009 6:01 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I was dissapointed too about how fast that went. Youre right tho, if it hadnt been stopped Lashley would have hurt the dude bad.

by medecine balls on Jan 3, 2009 7:16 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I am really intereseted to see how Lashley develops and hopefuly will be in the UFC soon. I heard Swick vs Hazelett at UFC 96

by 1-0 via Arm Triangle on Jan 3, 2009 6:17 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

i really hope that hazelett wins by some crazy sub. My guess is an aokiplata in the 2nd haha. It should be a good fight anyways though

by ehoglund on Jan 3, 2009 7:14 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

HOW CAN ANYONE NOT LIKE MIKE SWICK? all he does is put on great fites. yea his fite with burkman was bad but it was one fite. he looked good against davis who was on a ten fite win streak and destroyed goulet. look for swick to get a ww title shot in 2010.

by Hughes sux on Jan 3, 2009 6:40 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

great fites indeed…

by gobrowns on Jan 3, 2009 8:51 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

what is a fite?

by brendan on Jan 4, 2009 1:00 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

All im gonna say is Lashley is a scary looking dude

by See What Had Happend Was !!!! on Jan 4, 2009 12:49 AM EST reply actions   0 recs

Fite? Oh…..FIGHT!!!

I would like to see Lashley reach 3 or 4 and 0 before entering the UFC. That way maybe we could see him against Carwin or Velasquez immediately. He does not have the same “POP” that Lesnar seems to have with the casual fans but he definitely has potential.

by borockster on Jan 4, 2009 7:24 AM EST reply actions   0 recs

Lashley would get killed in the UFC, he’s fighting nobodys right now, put him in there with lesner and he’ll get his head nocked off! I don’t see him getting far once they get him off the steroids.

by Custom on Jan 4, 2009 1:00 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

bobby lashley needs no more fights to join the ufc for 3 reasons
1. brock had 1 then joined and fought a former champ who won and then won a title
2. he is a NAIA national champ 3x’s over
3. he will bring zuffa a lot of money fighting whomever joe silva decides
