Yep, hendo via throwing wild bombs as joe would say. Kinda scared for him though with hunt and nog having gotten KO’ed in the past week.

This has been a fight that I have wanted to see for about 4 or 5 years now! If you would have asked me who would win back in 2005, I would have easily said that Henderson would rip Rich’s head off and spike it! Today I am not so sure. I am very conflicted about this match up. Traditionally Henderson has had the better chin. Henderson has also faced much tougher opposition throughout his career then Rich has.
The only time I have been impressed with Hendo since he re-entered the Octagon was against Rampage. He came into that fight extremely undersized (like usual) and he went the distance with Page. I was impressed. When he fights at 185 lbs he usual appears to be drained from the weight cut. Its well documented that Hendo despises cutting down to 185 lbs.
I expect him to perform at a higher level against Rich simply due to the fact that he wont have to cut any weight. This should cause Hendo to perform at a higher level then we have seen out of him lately.
Facts are that Hendo hits much Harder then Rich. HOwever, Rich is much more technical then Hendo who likes to just throw bOMBS!!!! If Hendo connects, Rich’s head will go flying into the front row. However, I could also see Rich picking Hendo apart with his crisp and technical stand up.
I really dont know what the hell is going to happen in this fight. It could really go either way. 3rds wont do this match up justice. I could see it going to a decision.
I really dont care who wins, I just want to see both guys perform at a high level. If you were to hold a gun to my head and ask me to pick a winner I would go with Franklin, but Who knows how this one will play out! Regardless of the ending, it should be a really good match up.
AS for the LHW picture. This is what I would do if I were Joe Silva:
Rampage vs. Rashad for the title
Winner of Franklin/Hendo vs. Winner of Machida/Silva..winner gets next title shot after Rampage and Rashad duke it out
Loser of Hendo/Franklin vs. Loser of Machida/Silva
Liddell vs. Forrest

page vs evans, then let the winner of machida silva fight for the belt. then let the winner of franklin hendo. if we keep letting all the other guys keep fighting, then we don’t get as many title fights. this is the best division in all of mma, but page had to wait 10 mos to fight forrest, then forrest had to wait six mos to fight evans. THERE ARE TOO MANY GOOD FIGHTERS IN THIS DIVISION TO BE WAITING THAT LONG FOR TITLE SHOTS. IF THIS IS THE MOST HOTLY CONTESTED DIVISION AS DANA PUTS IT, WE SHOULDN’T BE WAITING SIX MONTHS FOR A TITLE DEFENSE, MUCH LESS TEN. THIS IS RIDICULOUS.

John, though I somewhat agree with your match ups you have to take into consideration the whole TUF aspect – I am not saying I agree with having the winner of the Franklin/Hendo fighting Bisping for the next shot (after Rampage I am assuming) but I am pretty sure Dana has stated those are his intentions.
How about Rampage gets next crack at the title then on the same card (or close to) Okami vs winner of Machida/Silva? I think Okami is getting the shaft had here, probably even more than Machida. That way Hendo/Franklin and Bisping could do the whole TUF thing and they would still get an assured shot at the title, albeit at this point 3rd in line. I think this is probably as fair as it is going to get. John, being that you are a well educated poster I see all the time, what do you feel about that.

Hendo has power in both hands so the usual circling away game won’t be as effective against him a la Bisping-Leben for example. The way everything matches up the smart bet seems like Rich. Might put down some cash on him if the lines are right. But am banking on Power and Chin. I would like to see Wand fight the loser.

Not that I don’t think this will be a good match up, but why all the hype? I think this fight will go to a decision

The more I think about this fight.. the more excited I get about it. I have to agree, very even match in so many ways… but the difference is hendo’s wrestling…and his wicked fists. Hendo= k.o… Rich’s nose can’t take more abuse.

I do not see Rich pulling this one out ,but with that said ,I do believe that it will be a great fight.I see this one being a 3 round war.

WORD!!!! Love both these guys, they are both top noptch in and out of the Cage. This is the kinda fight were you hate to see one of them lose but Sorry Rich I love you man I just dont think you will be handle Hendo’s raw toughness. This is going to be beauty, plain and simple!!!!

…and this is a good match up…but, anyone else find it hard to get REALLY pumped about it with Penn/St.Pierre II on the horizon? That’s the fight of the year 2008 or 2009.. doesn’t matter.. think of a match that beats it.

Agree with you 100 percent,I am still debating if I am going to get this one knowing Affliction and GSP/Penn2 is in the next 2 weeks after 93.I will probably still bite the bullet and get all 3,I can’t help myself sometimes.

fedor / arlovski is a pretty close runner up
by brendan on Jan 3, 2009 12:01 AM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Depends on which Arlovski shows up. I hope he performs at his best regardless of the outcome because it will be a nice guage of Fedor’s talent.

This is a classic matchup. I’ve been waiting on this one for a while. They are both great fighters that loves to bang. That makes more some great memories. Can’t wait.

I can’t stand the guy doing the voice-over. He sounds like the recording from the old movie theater by my house that I would call when I was a kid and had to sit through that long, boring-ass message before finally finding out what time The Dark Crystal was playing.

I’m not sure I follow the analogy, but yeah, I don’t like this guy.

I got Franklin winning this one. You can get him at even or even at a bit of an underdog. Hendo is 38 guys.

This is a tuff one to call… plus I like both fighters so its kinda hard to pick a winner. 2 Years ago I would have expected Hendo to smash Rich… but recent performances of the Pride Elite has shaken my confidence (Shogun, Cro Cop, Nog anyone?)
Should be a great fight though,… I was surprised how well Rich performed against Hamil.. that makes me think its gonna to pretty even… But, if i was betting I’d go with Decision win to Hendo!

HENDO IS THE GUY THAT HELPED WANDY START HIS LONG SLIDE THE LAST COUPLE OF YEARS.

What’s with the shitty voice over on these videos… Is this somebody that works at Zuffa’s kid brother or something? For that matter the graphics are shit too. It feels like they’re pulling out all the stops on the advertising for BJ/GSP so in turn all the advertising for this was done with 2 crayons, some kindergarden cut and paste, and a “boom box” circa 1986. I know it’s not really about that, but let’s be honest… some people buy luke-warm UFC cards over potentially more entertaining competitors’ cards because of the glitz and glam.
I’m just thinking if they want more ‘casual’ ppv buys on this one, they should have stepped it up a notch in the promo department.

I like this matchup for Hendo, he hits like a ton of bricks and Franklin likes to exchange. THe ground war will go to Hendo as well, I see this as a freat war in the first round then Hendo puts the pressure and lays Ace out, this is going to be a great fight!
by Sofa-King-Toasty on Jan 3, 2009 6:54 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
Hendo should win this fight, but I don’t think he will.
I see Hendo
a) gassing by round 2 because his conditioning is ok and not elite.
b) spending way to much time on striking when he real advantage on the ground.
Hendo will take round 1. Franklin will take rounds 2 and 3.
I hope I am wrong. I like Hendo.
