Franklin FTW. I think he will either win a decision, 29-28, or overwhelm Hendo with strikes in the 3rd, for a TKO. With the way things have been going, upsets are prone, and Franklin has a great shot here to get in the title mix.

Now that two of the top 3 best chins in MMA have gotten cracked in such a short span, maybe hendo is next.

by NameNotRequired on Jan 1, 2009 3:40 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I think you are forgetting about the toughest chin in all of MMA, Patrick Cote. It hasn’t been cracked, not even by the great spider.

by Gord on Jan 1, 2009 3:56 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Dan definately has the toughest chin in MMA and a lot of heavy handed people have put it to the test. e.g wanderlei, big and lil nog, rampage, da spider, belfort etc

If Rich and Dan start swinging he will find out that Dan wont be going down before he does.

Either way this is going to be a throwdown of two of the best ever and I wish I was there to see it. Setanta will have to do!

Shogun will DEFINATELY get his retribution as well and come back to dominate the LHW division in 2009 and for those who haven’t seen much of him it will be a sight to behold.

I got Dan in this fight! I just watched the preview on demand, it’s pretty good! I also got coleman!!!!

by kevin on Jan 1, 2009 6:51 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I got Dan as well but i think i’ll stop saying never. Also Kev- you’re crazy if you think coleman will win. That’ll never happen in eternity. He’ll get highlight reeled back onto Goldy’s list of top head kick KOs.

by NameNotRequired on Jan 1, 2009 8:15 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

lol, I know I’m the only one, but I give him a great shot, although there’s bad blood, shogun is a beast and has something to prove, I feel the cage and elbows will be the “X” factor in this fight!

by kevin on Jan 1, 2009 8:42 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Shogun has no problems with elbows Kevin. He gashed Forret up with elbows from the guard pretty good.

Shogun by tko in the 2nd

I don’t think anyone would consider Henderson beating Franklin an upset

by TooDiesel on Jan 1, 2009 2:41 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

quite the opposite actually

by brendan on Jan 1, 2009 6:41 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Franklin in my eyes is a heavy favorite in this fight. Henderson has not not anything impressive inside the octagon in his last 3 fights that show he can take on Franklin.
Franklin by TKO

Shogun is my favorite fighter, but I have to wait and see which Shogun will show up to this fight, he has not fought in a while, just like Coleman. This one is hard to call, but if I have to call, I will say Shogun.
Shogun by TKO

by radimusshogun on Jan 1, 2009 2:49 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

I don’t think Hendo can beat Franklin either. But with Hendo having never suffered a (T)KO loss, I’d consider Franklin winning by strikes as an upset.

Brazillians are the only ones who can defeat Rich.

by Synystr [[2009 Year of Gegard Mousasi]] on Jan 1, 2009 2:55 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I think Yushin Okami won their first fight, and i think hed win a rematch

by brendan on Jan 1, 2009 10:00 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Franklin a heavy favorite? Hendo has not done anything impressive in the Octagon? Thats insane…How many people think Rich could go 5 rounds with Rampage? How many rounds did Rich win in his two fights with Silva…Dan looked much more competitive against Anderson than Rich and won the first round. Dan fought Palhares the way he had to, had to stay off the ground with Toquinho. I think this fight is dead money like Rampage Wandy, maybe Rich is a small favorite. I like Hendo in this fight, decision or late round TKO

by efisher on Jan 1, 2009 3:15 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Agreed. I think Dan brings multiple challenges to the table in the fight against Rich. Dan will use his wrestling to get Rich down to the ground. I’d love to see Dan use his shoulders like he did in Pride and against Quinton like most use their elbows from the top of Rich’s guard. Dan has tremendous knockout power with both hands, his knees, elbows, and even has two knockouts using his shoulders.

On the other hand, if Rich can stay outside, stuff the takedown attempts and pick his strikes wisely, he will be tough to beat.

I’m looking more forward to this fight then any I can think of in a LONG time. It’s all good either way. I can hardly wait for this one!!!

by TheProfessor on Jan 1, 2009 8:55 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I hope Rich wins this only because I want to see what he can do at LHW and want to see him get some bigger names. I am a huge fan on Henderson though.

As for Shogun, he must win this fight and I think he will via TKO or KO in the first. He’ll come out Chute Box old school. Can’t wait.

enter rich franklin, the new 205 lb gatekeeper! hell never beat shogun, rampage, machida… in fact id love to see a machida rematch

by brendan on Jan 1, 2009 10:02 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

hard fight to call hendo its a badass but rich is one of the most technical striker out there
i pick franklin by UD
i dont know what its going on next if rich wins he will be a couch on TUF, why? to try to get another shot at silva(cuz the winner of bisping/franklin is for number one contender at MW i guess) i dont think anyone wants to see that and then why he move up to 205
i am curious to see what the ufc its gonna do i personally rather to see marquartd as the other couch in TUF and then figh bisping for the number one contender and let rich and hendo in the LHW

shogun shogun shogun shogun shogun

2009 its gonna be his year!!

sure hope so

by brendan on Jan 1, 2009 6:42 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I see hendo taking down rich or catching him with a big right. Franklin needs to avoid the take downs and circle away from that right hand and if he doesnt it could be a bad night for him. Hendo isnt like Hammil he isnt gonna stand in front of rich for too long without landing something and if he doesnt hes gonna close the distance and get it to the gnp. Personally i think hendo is the favourite here and after this fight i say he should deny the tuf coaching spot so he can fight silva asap. Although with the tuf show could give GSP enough time to beat BJ and Alves to get his shot at anderson.

by Colin D on Jan 1, 2009 4:10 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

I think coleman will be the better fighter here because shogun cant use his soccer kicks, stomps i mean look at what the octagon did to that chute box style of fighting.

by Colin D on Jan 1, 2009 4:12 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

a better fighter realy???

by JoW on Jan 1, 2009 4:25 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I thought Shogun adapted well to the Octagon rules. I mean, PRIDE bans elbows to the head, and he looked pretty comfortable bashing Forrest’s head in with elbows. He’ll do just fine without soccer kicks and stomps.

by Synystr [[2009 Year of Gegard Mousasi]] on Jan 1, 2009 4:30 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Shogun says he has gotten used to the rules when he fought Kevin Randleman and Alistair Overeem in the US. When he was training for the fights, that is. I think Shogun has a superb ground game and is quite slick on the ground. Black Belt BJJ. His a solid 205 pounder and has the size. His walk around weight is 225-230.

Two legends that have done so much for the sport. I hope that Franklin vs. Hendo is a war.

and also WAR SHOGUN!!

by Bill Maher on Jan 1, 2009 4:55 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

For the folks that say Henderson is not impressive, obviously don’t know about his history or just watch UFC only. Dan Henderson is one of the most exciting fighters today. We are talking about a guy who held the MW and LHW title for PRIDE. He’s got a nasty right hand and sic Greco Roman wrestling. Watch Pride 33 and see how he knocked out Wandy and you tell me if this was a boring fight.
http://ikrazy.com/video/a0c1dc020828ce9/

For the fight between him and Franklin, I can see both winning this and it wouldn’t be a big surprise. I’m leaning towards Hendo for this one. Either way I’ve been waiting for this match to happen for a long time. Its going to be good.

franklin and coleman ftw

by markg on Jan 1, 2009 5:49 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

How can anybody say that Hendo is not impressive. Every fight (in Pride & UFC) including his loss to Silva he was strong, put on a good performance. Franklin is not going to KO Hendo, unless he can stop him with his kicks but hendo will grab a leg and take him down, GnP Franklin and either a submission which I doubt more than likely mount Franklin and TKO. But the fight I’m really excited for is Coleman V Shogun. The O2 is oging to erupt with Chute Boxe in the house, and we may see more than Shogun & Coleman at it, both camps Hammerhouse V Chute Box. I wonder will the UFC be doing any testing here? Coleman loves his roids. Wonder will Randleman & Baroni be in his corner. Cant wait, have my tickets :) I’m so going to catch Dana with my pen!! Now that would be cool to see him getting caught :D

the old timers are fading…

No soccer kicks(to the head)
Elbows allowed = Advantage Coleman…

BUT I’m still picking SHOGUN to win…Revenge is a HUGE motivating factor in life, especially when you get to fight!
Case in point Rampage vs. Wandy. :)

SHOGUN- TKO
Henderson – Decision

Roy (have fun dude…make sure you post here afterwards!)
Yes, The energy at 02 will be crazy…they get nuts, and those two camps almost brawled backstage in Japan.

by Ground-Game on Jan 1, 2009 6:14 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

yes no soccer kicks to the head thats true, but Coleman loves the northside southside position and knee to the head which he did alot in Pride and thats not allowed either. Elbows allowed true but look what happened to Randleman when they went down, nearly tore his leg apart. Thats why I feel Shogun to win by submission leg lock. Legs are wrestlers weakness. Will do, will be there for the prelims as well. Great card

dan and shogun our my picks.

Cant believe Coleman is still fighting ..he looks like a wallnut . I think Hendo has trhis fight as 4 shogun vs coleman .. I dont even really care

Been waiting along time for this matchup. Tough for me to predict a winner. I mean whoever wins i will be happy for them. Gotta luv both Dan and Rich. I am pulling more for Hendo in this fight though because I’d rather see him be the next coach on tuf. We all know Rich doesnt want to coach and Dan is all about it. Plus Rich imo can afford a loss, at this point in time i dont think Dan could. Shogun better show up for this fight. Alot or ppl have written him off lately because of his lackluster performance against Griffin, and then we know injuries happen, but its take over a year for him to get back into the octagon. So he really needs this win in a bad way, and not just a win a convincing one against Coleman at that..

Hendo by Dec
Shogun by flying knee

Sylvia, Hughes, Franklin, Lidell. Please retire.

by mikehunt on Jan 1, 2009 10:00 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

franklin doesnt belong on that list. i might add wandy to that if he doesnt start fighting at 185.h

by COR on Jan 2, 2009 12:16 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Hughes lost to GSP and Thiago Alves and you are calling for retirement. Are you kidding me? GSP is one of the best p4p fighters, and Alves is an explosive young gun that is destroying every fighter in his path.

Tim Sylvia lost to Nog and Fedor. Is that really worth retiring over? No way. He may be disliked and considered boring but he is still a force to be reconned with.

Franklin has only lost to two fighters. Anderson Silva and Lyoto Machida. He has won 12 of his last 15 fights.

Liddell (which is how you spell it) has lost to the number one contender, the champion and a highly motivated Keith Jardine.

Retirement? I don’t think so.
