Josh Neer arrested in Iowa after New Years Eve high-speed police chase

Mixed martial arts and Octagon veteran Josh Neer was arrested earlier this morning in Davenport, Iowa, under suspicion of Driving While Intoxicated (DWI), following a New Year's Eve celebration.

The "Dentist" was also charged with eluding police and hit and run -- he apparently attempted to flee the scene of a two-car accident that he caused and then led local authorities on a 20 minute traffic chase.

Here's a snip from a WHOTV.com report:

"... Neer ... hit two cars. One of those happened to be a police car at 4th and Court Avenue. Neer took off and police chased him for twenty miles, hitting speeds of more than 100 miles per hour. Police tried a pit maneuver at 6th and Euclid Avenue to stop Neer. After that failed, Neer drove into Urbandale and eventually made it onto Interstate 80. That's when Neer's car blew a tire near the east mixmaster."

He, of course, is innocent until proven guilty. However, the early reports don't look too snappy.

After posting a 2-3 record in the UFC, Neer won six of seven fights outside the promotion before returning to the Octagon and defeating Din Thomas by unanimous decision at UFC Fight Night 13. He most recently lost to Nate Diaz via unanimous decision in the "Fight of the Night" at UFC Fight Night 15 back in September.

The 25-year-old five-year veteran of the sport is currently scheduled to next challenge Mac Danzig at UFC Fight Night 17 in Tampa, Fla., on February 7. There's no telling right now if this incident will have any impact on his ability to make that date.

Stay tuned for more details on this developing story.

Hey guys, Happy new year. My cousin in law has seen BOTH Diaz boys training hard in recent weeks…mostly cardio at the 24 hour fitness in stockton. We all know that Nate has an upcoming fight, but he said Nick has been training hard too! He asked me if I heard anything, which I haven’t, but this could be a good sign of a Nick Diaz fight announcement!
On another note, a couple of “newbee’s” here calling me out about being a dad on coke and with hookers. First off it’s been years since I partied, second it was a stripper comment. I’m sorry that I had some wild partying days in the past. Another guy said I “don’t look like the type to make good money or get female attention.” What does someone who can make good money look like? My dad is a multi millionaire with 3 houses, but if you saw him walking down the street, you’d never know it. The 4 pictures you saw of me were in 4 different cities in 4 different states in 1 year! Lastly, I’ve never had any problems with the females, some how an ugly dude like me (which I happily admit) is smooth, and always has been with the ladies! I don’t know why I wasted the time to explain this, but I had to! Thanks for sticking up for me chef, I know you have loved stripper company in the past!! Some of these guys must be mormon or never had any fun! Taking a girl out 5 times before getting a bj is more expensive and time consuming than a stripper/hooker any day!

by kevin on Jan 1, 2009 6:31 PM EST up reply actions

Youre wasting your time, people will talk trash for ever. Without reason. Just ignore them.

by medecine balls on Jan 1, 2009 6:39 PM EST up reply actions

I know medicine, and you guys that I talk to every day know me (for a blogging site). I just didn’t like someone alluding to me being a bad parent when I’m a dedicated and loving husband and father, and take pride in that. Like I said, I keep it real and am an open book, I like and respect a lot of you guys, and actually talk to a few off the site, just don’t like douche bags questioning my life or motives. Like I said, I’ve partied and done some crazy ass stuff, but who hasn’t? And if you haven’t you’re either lying or a prude, but who are you to judge!?

by kevin on Jan 1, 2009 6:46 PM EST up reply actions

Guess having a rich dad didn’t help you with the ladies, if you say no then you lying and not keeping it real… homie

by Bigmcmac on Jan 1, 2009 7:45 PM EST up reply actions

ugh. I partied a lot last night. All at my gf’s place tho. As some of you know, I live in Alaska. We have been enduring a coldsnap in my area and it was like -20 for like 4 days. As a result, my car wouldn’t start. It has warmed a little bit today so my car is back and running. I am going to go get some taco bell to get the enodorphins back in action since I am feeling the after effects of the binge. As far as the ladies go, my girfriend was down, but I was way to smashed to do it. That is the 2nd time this has happened. LAME!

by RyanHobbs on Jan 1, 2009 7:58 PM EST up reply actions

rich dad helped with the ladies?? nope, wasn’t really that rich when I was growing up! middle class normal guy, mom wasn’t well off at all! My dad made most of his money in the last 12-15 years or so, he was well off, but nothing like he is now! He never “gave” much either! We were taught to earn our money, I had a job since I was 14. I never worried about a meal, but not too much was handed to me growing up! nice try though! being a good athlete and a smooth talker helped.

by kevin on Jan 1, 2009 8:10 PM EST up reply actions

You’re in freaking Alaska. You have nothing but cold snaps.

by PW on Jan 1, 2009 8:37 PM EST up reply actions

PW, was going to say the same thing. lol, man anything below 55-60 and I get irritable.

by chefdaddy on Jan 1, 2009 8:56 PM EST up reply actions

And no problem with the defense there, kev. I can, however, see AJ’s point that if we throw it out there we can get called on it. Just sometimes it is possible to call someone on something w/o attacking or sounding too judgemental. However, it’s the personal things on here that make the site so interesting. And yeah, I have enjoyed the company of …..dancers….(that term is TOO funny. Like they dance ballet or ballroom or something. Nope, just move around in minimal clothing, lol) ….had two kids with one. I always joke (never when the kids are around) that thank god they got mommy’s looks and daddy’s brains, or they’d be dumb as a stump with a goatee and receding hairline.

by chefdaddy on Jan 1, 2009 9:11 PM EST up reply actions

PW- Yeah it is cold most of the time. hahahaha I’m from the midwest originally so I hate the winters. The summers in this state are awesome though.

Kevin: U dont owe nobody anything! We all have a past. I respect you more for escaping your past and turning into a man who provides for his wife and kid! Much respect to you my friend! Me and you battle head to head on this site but thats only cause we have a lot of knowledge and good point of views. U r one of my favorite guys to debate with on this site! What makes a man is the ability to go through hell, while continuing to better himself and for that I tip my hat to you. AS someone who didnt always make the best decisions in life (wow what an understatement lol), I respect the hell out of you man! WE share a similar past! I shook my past by going back to school…and now I find myself 6 months away from graduating with a great GPA! AS an aspiring professional and Family man….I say Much respect Man!

No need to waste your time defending yourselves to judgemental pricks who have never spent a day in your shoes! Do you, worry about the ones you care about and F the rest! Much love and respect. Holla at me when u want a good ol fashion debate!

Interesting how in the news article, they didn’t mention that he was a UFC fighter. Just spoke of him like a regular citizen.

by RyanHobbs on Jan 1, 2009 7:29 PM EST up reply actions

He is just regular citizen, being in the UFC doesn’t make him any better that the rest of us poor slobs.

by Bigmcmac on Jan 1, 2009 7:46 PM EST up reply actions

A regular citizen that competes in sporting events witnessed by millions of people.

by RyanHobbs on Jan 1, 2009 7:48 PM EST up reply actions

Millions of people don’t watch the undercard. That is where Neer does most of his work.

by naturalshadow on Jan 3, 2009 3:27 AM EST up reply actions

Dana will release him. I wonder if he was going to save one of his friends from the devil. Either way, the guy is a stupid fuck for doing what he did.

Josh “The Trustee” Neer

by the_mexicutioner on Jan 1, 2009 7:56 PM EST up reply actions

Maybe Neer should face Franca in a DUI showdown. They are both supposed to fight on the same card.

by naturalshadow on Jan 3, 2009 3:29 AM EST up reply actions

UPDATE: Josh made claims of police brutality. He was allegedly kicked several times by officers and has bruising as a result. There seems to be more to the story about how the chase actually started as well..

by RyanHobbs on Jan 1, 2009 10:56 PM EST up reply actions

Yep Dana will release him. Even though he did almost the same thing Rampage did, he’s gone. As long as your name is Quinton Jackson or Junie Browning you can kill someone and Dana White will twist the story to make it unique, thus justifying the action, and not recieve any punishment.

by derek on Jan 1, 2009 11:49 PM EST up reply actions

Rampage wasn’t drunk and Josh was. That’s a big difference. Rampage was suffering from delerium which actually makes sense. Not to come down hard on Josh or anything, but the circumstances are very different.

by JoW on Jan 1, 2009 5:30 PM EST reply actions

Yeah no kidding. I don’t understand it. So many crazy things are happening in MMA lately. Fight for the troops was somewhat tainted due to the gruesome injuries, Justin Eilers was murdered, Justin Levens the suspect in a murder and apparent suicide, then this. Not to mention Rampages pending situation with the courts.

This can’t be helping with getting MMA in New York and other places. The Eilers situation isn’t bad for the sports reputation, but it is certainly a loss to MMA.

by RyanHobbs on Jan 1, 2009 6:52 PM EST up reply actions

Thank god for Goran Reljic being heroic and the dude that stopped the fast-food robbery via head kick. People need to see the better side of MMA fighters.

by medecine balls on Jan 1, 2009 7:02 PM EST up reply actions

hahahaha wait who stopped the fast food robbery? I didn’t hear about that one. Goran Reljic certainly was heroic. Great point.

by dayzah on Jan 1, 2009 8:22 PM EST up reply actions

He must have huge boxers.

by chefdaddy on Jan 1, 2009 8:58 PM EST up reply actions

I’d hate to drown in someones boxers.

by RyanHobbs on Jan 1, 2009 10:43 PM EST up reply actions

Haha it was Benji Radach, kicked some old dude in the head who was trying to rob a McDonalds or something. Cant remember. Anyhow, kicking someone who is holding a gun in the head is totally radical.

by medecine balls on Jan 2, 2009 2:08 AM EST up reply actions

That is awesome hahaha. I wonder if there was any cameras that caught it? I’d love to see that.

by RyanHobbs on Jan 2, 2009 2:38 AM EST up reply actions

It was in Vancouver i believe. If i stopped a robbery with my foot id want the friggin key to the city! Id like to see Benji fight again, he fought at “heat” but i dunno whats up with him anymore. He sorta sucks, but hes fun to watch. Especially if you can imagine him kicking an old Hamburgler.

by medecine balls on Jan 2, 2009 2:42 AM EST up reply actions

He ain’t too bad of a fighter. He finished Ninja Rua. I heard that now he trains boxing instructors or something like that?

by RyanHobbs on Jan 2, 2009 2:48 AM EST up reply actions

Dang (wish i could swear, dang you moderation) yeah the Rua fight was fun, i enjoyed that one. If he is instructing instructors props to him! Thats not an easy job. I used to do seminars on Guiding for fly-fishing, turning someone into a professional instructor is not easy at all.

by medecine balls on Jan 2, 2009 2:58 AM EST up reply actions

It’s funny because I have cursed on here and gotten away with it but moderation has gotten me for doing….well, absolutely nothing. But yeah, if the job is as difficult as you say, then that could probably have an impact on his MMA career.

by RyanHobbs on Jan 2, 2009 3:08 AM EST up reply actions

Well if he is coaching, he is done with his career IMO. Those who cant do, teach. As for the job, i dont coach pro boxers, i coach pro guides. I cant imagine teaching someone how to develop a boxer/fighter. thats intense.

by medecine balls on Jan 2, 2009 3:21 AM EST up reply actions

fighting career i mean.

Now this will be interesting, will he be getting the Rampage treatment or will he be released?

So called “reverse” discrimination is despicable.

People make mistakes, drinking and driving is very stupid and detrimental to your own health and everyone around you. He should thank his god that he never killed anyone and hopefully this will make him reevaluate his life and change. Everyone deserves a second chance.

by Bigmcmac on Jan 1, 2009 10:27 PM EST up reply actions

Agreed. Josh is a tough fighter and was very respectful to Nate Diaz in their fight. I know someone who is good friends with him and he is getting a lot of crap for this.

I thought I was getting chased by the police earlier. I wasn’t looking in my rear view mirror for a while, then all of the sudden I glanced at it and saw two squad card with their lights flashing behind me. I immediatly pulled over and I began to hear the sirens. Then they passed me. No way I’d try to outrun the cops haha.

Oh no oh no, please no more bad publicity for MMA. Within a 3 week span we have Justin Levens ordeal. Then the Justin Eilers death. Now Neer doing this. As a huge MMA fan and very loyal to the sport its getting annoying taking so many black eyes over the past couple of weeks. With all the bad pub im starting to walk around like Rich Franklin, seems like he always has a perminant black eye. Another bad ordeal for our wonderful sport of MMA. Atleast we can embelish on the fight for the troops raising over 4 mil. Happy New Year to everyone on the site, that goes for the regular ppl that post and the one’s that come up every once in awhile. Everyone that post’s their opinions is a valuable assest to this site. Kevin, you post all the time, dont worry about what others think about ya, we love ya in here, even though you think bj will beat GSP. AdamG, what a loyal bj nuthugger, and looking forward to the matchup between our boys, hopefully it will be a great clash no matter the outcome. Mania thanks for putting together and keeping up with the best MMA site there is, here is to a better year in 09 of MMA and to new additions to the site to making it even better. Mania you need to throw some mmamania.com shirts my way to me down here in Texas, so we can represent and continue to grow.
