There could be many…umm maybe the return of “The Pitbul” Andrei Arlovski, an interpromotional match that has Fedor finally step into the Octagon, Anderson Silva losing his 185 belt to someone, Anderson Silva fighting for the Light Heavyweight title…or what I would love to see is a fight between Liddell and Griffin.

by Red on Jan 1, 2009 11:04 AM EST reply actions

hopefully in 2009 i’ll see:
LHW
-shogun get back on track and fights for the title
-rampage beats forrest, evans and shogun in that order
-every1 realises that forrest is overated after he losses his next 2 fights to rampage and shogun and has 3 consecutive loses

HW
-nog retires couture
-brock gets beat
-the up and comers face worthy opponents
-gonzaga goes on a tear and realises/masters his potential

MW
-silva moves upto LHW and has another unbeaten year
-Franklin wins hendo

ww
-hughes beats serra
-gsp beats Bj
-alves fights for the title
-saunders goes on a tear against good opponents

LW
-BJ stays at LW
-ken flo vs sanchez 2?
-huerta vs griffin
-diaz vs sherk

The story that most interests me in 2009 is the heavyweight scene. Does Fedor get past Arlovski? What happens to them if Affliction folds? Can Brock fend off the challengers in the UFC? Will Couture call it a career once and for all? Or does he face Nogueira? Is Carwin ready for the big time? A lot of questions to answer.

by Jesse Holland on Jan 1, 2009 11:05 AM EST reply actions

Jesse, Cheers from Memphis! I find your post to be rather cool because your interest illustrates how quickly things have changed. A year ago we looked to the heavyweight division much like we looked to thanksgiving dinner with the in-laws. It should be a great year if all involved continue to improve as we have seen in the likes of Mir and Lesnar. Hopefully the economy will continue to support 50 dollar ppv so that these organizations can pay fighters to provide the top training and medical support they deserve.

Hey – who wins? Lesnar or Mir?

by TapedUpPair on Jan 1, 2009 12:10 PM EST up reply actions

> Anderson at LHW & GSP (possibly) to MW will be extremely interesting in 2009.
> BJ trying to fight in every division but HW will always be a story.
> The future of Gina Carano and the gang from Elite XC will be of interest.
> Who does the Iceman take on in 2009.
> Do we get to hammer on Ken & Tito again this year?
Just a few of the many stories we may see this year. Happy 2009 to all.

Rogan by KO. That dude would be a beastttt.

by BrutalKnockout. on Jan 1, 2009 4:29 PM EST up reply actions

I know. I was just stating that he has hit the ground. Only briefly, but it still counts.

The developments of Lyoto Machida, Gabriel Gonzaga, Brock Lesnar, Tim Boetsch and Goran Reljic will be fun to follow in 2009.

But I think the biggest story of the year will be the unlikely UFC return of Dan Severn and his quest for championship gold.

by Steve Chandler on Jan 1, 2009 11:50 AM EST reply actions

I’d be interested in all those minus Tim Boetsch. What has been keeping Goran Reljic out for so long? I mean, besides saving peoples’ lives in Croatia, what the hell has he been doing??

And the return of Dan Severn? Thats a long shot buddy.

by Synystr [[2009 Year of Gegard Mousasi]] on Jan 1, 2009 12:17 PM EST up reply actions

gsp comes out of the closet, starts dating eddie bravo and finds a new career in interior decorating. rampage has his worst nightmare come to life and he goes to prison where everyone in there is trying to get at his booty and for that reason he comes out of prison a better fighter with great cardio. dan henderson gets a rematch with anderson and finishes him early. mir subs brock again. arlovski comes back to the ufc after a loss to fedor and finally fights a healthy frank mir. affliction folds and fedor comes over to the ufc and gets an instant title shot and armbars mir after some brutal gnp in the first round.

by jonsey on Jan 1, 2009 11:55 AM EST reply actions

-Goldie finally stops pandering for rogans approval.
-People quit salvitating over an average at best Carano.
-after bj looses to gsp, florian takes the pudgy prodigy out!!
-marguardt takes the belt from silva.
-cb dolloway quits tapping in every fight. then denies it.
-couture goes away (sorry, but its time)
-we see the super freak show lesnar vs. lashley

Will Red Devil an the UFC come to terms and sign Fedor as well as Mousasi?

by the_mexicutioner on Jan 1, 2009 12:32 PM EST reply actions

- Penn beats gsp and then demands a shot at a silva and rashad.
- A silva gets ko’d by matt hughes after hughes beats serra.
- fedor coming over to the ufc and loses to the hammer.
- after beating gsp, bj gets ko’ed in the first by florian.
- lesnar beats mir by rear naked choke in the first round.
- hughes and bj rematch and hughes makes penn tap by ground and pound in the second round.
- For the first time gina caro fights a guy, bj penn and subs him in the first round.
- Gina’s next fight is with slice, who she ko’s is 4 seconds.
- couture finally retires after losing a boxing match to dana white.
- Big john comes back…this time as a MMA fighter and fights herb dean, dean ko’s him in the 3rd round.
- anderson silva retires after his second loss in a row to matt serra, by flying heal hook, ends up in a mental home.

Andrei Wins, Allistair goes to the ufc and proves why hes the demolition man, Gegard Moussasi, Eddie Alvarez, Shinya Aoki, Melvin Manhoef all go to the ufc. Manhoef ko’s anderson silva.

alot of these are far fetched but id be happy if they were true.

by Jared on Jan 1, 2009 12:41 PM EST reply actions

I would LOVE To see all those guys in the octagon!!!!!!

by 1-0 via Arm Triangle on Jan 1, 2009 12:51 PM EST up reply actions

+1. How does everyone think Anderson matches against Gegard and Melvin?? Silva doesn’t really go for takedowns, so how would he deal with those guys on the feet? Especially Manhoef, who I think can KO Silva. I’ve been waiting for a response from someone for a while!!

Also, I think Eddie Alvarez and Shinya Aoki could POSSIBLY give BJ a run for his title. I think BJ edges them both out, but those would be AWESOME!!

And for the first time, since everyone else is doing it:
BJ BJ BJ

The biggest story of 2009 will be BJ Penn winning the 170lb. title from GSP and then beating Ken Flo to prove that he is not, contrary to what about 90 percent of the people here have stated, an over-rated MMA star.

Penn will prove his legitimacy to all you haters this year. I can practically guarantee it.

by Carano4VicePresident on Jan 1, 2009 7:20 PM EST reply actions

Fedor comes to the UFC and fights Lidell at HW.
Rashad loses to Machida.
Leites gets destroyed by badASS and everyone questions why he got a title shot in the first place.
GSP and Alves win fight of the year.
BJ and Florian fight to a highly contested decision and everyone tells Florian, I thought you were a finisher.

by UFCAddict on Jan 1, 2009 7:34 PM EST reply actions

What would be good to see for 2009:

-GSP/PENN II turns out to be fight of the Decade
-HUerta is exposed again and is gone soon
-Kenflo/Sanchez II
-Hughes pounds out Serra, then retires
-Brock continues to improve
-Gouveia breaks out
-Clay Guida gets into contendership
-Arlovski beats Fedor
-Carano vs Cyborg
-Bobby Lashley proves hes a true MMA competitor
-Cain Velasquez vs Shane Carwin
-Tito comes back to the UFC, gets back into contendership
-Anderson Silva vs Hendo (again), Liddell, Cotoure, Rampage, Evans, Shogun, Etc.
-Mirko cuts to 205 and redeems himself
-Fitch vs Koscheck
-Brandon Vera Reemerges
-Kongo vs Gonzaga
YEAR OF SUPERFIGHTS!
