Fields Dynamite!! finalizes Dec. 31 card; adds championship bout

Fighting and Entertainment Group (FEG), the parent company of fighting entities DREAM and K-1, has put the finishing touches on it's New Year's Eve supershow set to go down on December 31 from the Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan.
The K-1 rules bout pitting Strikeforce Heavyweight Champion Alistair Overeem against K-1 bad boy Badr Hari was made official. Both are no strangers to controversial finishes. Hari went postal in the 2008 K-1 Grand Prix against Remy Bonjasky and Overeem of course sent Mirko Cro Cop’s testicles running for cover in their bout last September.
Overeem has stated via his official website that the two will meet again in a mixed martial arts bout in early 2009, thus ending any dispute as to the advantages of Hari competing on Wednesday without the threat of submissions.
Lest anyone think the organization only caters to free-wheeling Russians, the recently announced fight between Eddie Alvarez and Shinya Aoki will now determine the first-ever World Alliance of Mixed Martial Arts (WAMMA) lightweight champion.
A ceremony is expected to take place at some point in early 2009 to present the championship.
Ikuhisa Minowa, who has fought every name under the sun (albeit to inconsistent results), will take on K-1 star Errol Zimmerman. This will be Zimmerman’s mixed martial arts debut, but don’t expect the three-time Dutch Muay Thai champion and K-1 Grand Prix semifinalist to be jumping into guard anytime soon.
Also in action will be Hayato "Mach" Sakurai, who still seems to be waiting for a fight against Nick Diaz for the first-ever DREAM Welterweight Championship. It looks as if he'll have to keep waiting but in the interim has been given the task of fighting Katsuyori Shibata, famous in Japan for his professional wrestling.
Unfortunately for Shibata, he hasn’t been able to turn his success in the land of predetermined results to that of mixed martial arts. Before drawing in his last bout, Shibata was on a five-fight losing streak. To his credit, he has taken on some tough competition like Kazushi Sakuraba and Yoshihiro Akiyama, but still comes out on the losing side more often than not.
Another newly added bout will be Pancrase fighter Yukio Sakaguchi getting his chance in the big leagues. His opponent will be Andy Ologun, popular in Japan not for his fighting skills but more so for his fashion modeling, TV appearances and for being the younger brother of Bobby Ologun.
That said, he has defeated former two-time K-1 World MAX Japan tournament champion Takayuki Kohiruimaki and has also taken on the likes of Yasuhiro Kido, so it would be unfair to say he didn’t have any skills.
Fields Dynamite!! is the long-anticipated New Year’s Eve supershow featuring a smorgasbord of fighters under the umbrella of FEG coming together on one night to try and kick the crap out of each other.
Featuring participants from DREAM, K-1, K-1 MAX and K-1 Koshien, Fields Dynamite!! is going to have a wide variety of fighting styles and compelling match-ups, and will feature a whopping 19 fights.
Here is the official Fields Dynamite!! fight card:

Why ruin a great match up with a meaningless WAMMA title? WAMMA is fucking lame.

so hansen/calvacante is for the DREAM belt? and aoki/alvarez for the WAMMA?
by brendan on Dec 29, 2008 3:04 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
In my oppinion, WAMA is crap! The only Wama belt with any meaning is the HW belt that Fedor has, and the lightweight belt only if they eventually unify the Wama and DREAM lightweight belts.
I think they should just do away with the whole WAMMA thing and each organization just give out there own titles. If the orgs. then want to see who is best, co promote a match between 2 champs, for example DReam champ vs. Affliction champ!

Why don’t they just call it the Dream belt? WAMMA loses all credibility with this because we all know that BJ is the real #1 lightweight in the world.
by BNF on Dec 29, 2008 1:06 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
The only credibility lost would be the fact that not all of the top 5 LWs are in the UFC. Actually most believe that most of the top 5 LWs are in DREAM. So if any credibility is lost it would be Penn being the number one LW due to the fact that he doesn’t have all the top LWs to fight.
by Cogito Ergo Sum on Dec 29, 2008 1:11 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
So who is #2? Gomi? LOL. BJ already destroyed him. And are you actually suggesting BJ’s UFC belt is less credible because it is the UFC? You actually think BJ needs to go to Dream to prove himself as the best. Ridiculous… He will prove it when he moves to 170 and beats GSP!

Well Robert since the article talks about the WAMMA Belt which is supposed to be for the for the number 1 in the world I think BJ is very relevant in this conversation.

by Psyqo78®™ on Dec 29, 2008 2:24 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Hmm I think mud tossing is making this arguement look petty. The point was BNF that out of the top LWs in the world I’d say there are only 2 in the UFC. Penn and Sherk. Florian could be considered a top 5 LW but I don’t myself consider him to be one. I also see that Gesias, Aoki, Joachim, and Eddie are all on this card and these are guys I would consider to be in the top 10 at least and some of them to be top 5. Point is plain and simple is that the UFC doesn’t have all the top guys and they don’t cross promote which makes it impossible for WAMMA to consider anyone within the UFC promotion for the WAMMA belt. So if WAMMA cannot consider their champions (HW Fedor LW Eddie/Aoki) to be the number one champs because there are viable contenders in the UFC, then why does the UFC get to consider their fighters the world champs when there are viable contenders outside their promotion that they refuse to let their fighters fight? BNF, you should know that I am a huge fan of the UFC and I argue very passionatly when people like Introvert cut on them for no reason. I just saw that your statement looked really strongly against WAMMA and I couldn’t see for what reason. I think the WAMMA belt is a good way to try and force the UFC into cross promoting so that we can fairly say who is the world champion. I also see that if you look at it from the perspective of the number one champ is in the UFC then WAMMA will not be able to make a LW, WW or MW belt until Penn, GSP or Silva retire. Not having a certified LW, WW, or MW would also undercut the WAMMA “prestige”.
by Cogito Ergo Sum on Dec 29, 2008 2:41 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
And BNF, I don’t consider Gomi a top 5 LW… maybe if he’d start focusing more on MMA and stop ducking harder fights then I would consider him top 5 but he needs to recommit himself to MMA first. Just for your own recognization here is who I consider the top LWs.
1. BJ Penn
2. Sean Sherk
3. Eddie Alveraz
4. Shinya Aoki
5. Joachim Hansen/Gesias C./Kenny Florian
number 5 can be switched out for whoever you think should be there but I believe it to be Joachim at this time. Please also note that this list is biased and not fully based on their records.

Its Okay guys. Today I started JAMMA. James Alliance of Mixed Martial Arts. B.J. is the JAMMA lw champ, which has more credibility than the WAMMA belt. (based on Jamma sounding better than wamma.) I am mailing the belt to BJ today, as soon as I cut it out with these dull ass scissors I have here at work. You are all welcome to vote on which fighters should hold the belt in other weight classes. At the end of the day, I will tally the vote and completely disregard the results giving the belt as follows
LW Penn
WW St Pierre
MW A Silva
LHW A Silva (its my belt, why not)
HW Fedor
Super HW Hong Man Choi
by James S on Dec 29, 2008 2:54 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
dont forget hansen is the dream world champ. how does wamma justify naming alvarez/aoki the champ over him. their current rankings have b.j at #1, how does b.j lose that ranking without actualy fighting. even if bj loses to gsp he is head and shoulders above all lws. wamma is all about naming champs outside the ufc, otherwise bj,gsp and a.silva would already be their champs. wamma is a joke.
by b.w. on Dec 29, 2008 3:16 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
BW I had a whole write up that Mania hasn’t posted yet that explains more why WAMMA can’t have a UFC champ. everyone knows WAMMA cannot select a UFC fighter because they do not cross promote. I myself think it would be nice if they could just give Penn the belt but then again that leaves 3 of the top 5 guys who don’t even get a chance to be the number one LW. Why does Penn deserve to be considered the number 1 if he hasn’t found anyone but number 2? Its really not fair no matter what way you look at it, the only thing you need to understand is who is number one in your book. The number one champs will be contested until all of the top 10 guys are all in the same org or are able to fairly compete against one another.
by Cogito Ergo Sum on Dec 29, 2008 3:30 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
LOL James, I will co-sign that…
b.w., that is exactly what I was waiting for someone to say after my initial question. It actually makes Dream and WAMMA look bad simutaniosly. How that hell do you have the Dream champ not even fighting for the Wamma belt? I don’t understand why any org would give WAMMA the time of day. They should all just have their own champions, period.
by BNF on Dec 29, 2008 4:01 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Only an idiot will argue that BJ isn’t the best lightweight in the world. Not to many LW’s out there that could even be matched against GSP at 170.
- LW in the world has to be Eddie Alvarez, yes maybe you detect a little hometown Bias, but Eddie has beaten all top 10 fighters this year:
Kawajiri
Hellboy
Dida is tough as hell
If He beats Aoki, you cant question his #2 ranking!
the lightweight division is probably the hardest division to rank because most of the top ranked guys dont fight under Zuffa. #1 BJ Penn, #2 Eddie Alvarez, THe rest of the rankings are subject to change but I will name 8 other fighters who I feel should be in the top 10 in no Order:
Sherk
Takanori Gomi
Shinya Aoki
Tatsuya Kawajiri
JZ
Hellboy
Florian
El Nino

Paid late* is what I meant, Bob. Sorry to confuse that puzzled head of yours, Bob. Besides, the majority of people on here probably knew what I was referring to. Being that you are more than likely a Tapout/Xtreme Couture wearing casual fan of the sport, Bob, you probably had no clue what my comment was in reference to, Bob. I don’t think there has been any other time in the history of MMA that anyone has had to wait that long to get a purse. Sorry I wasn’t specific enough, Bob. Get it now, Bob? Sorry, Bob, I haven’t met your standards once again.

You didn’t confuse me at all it’s quite apparent you were confused that’s why you posted some bullshit links to fighters getting paid late when I was quite clear in saying tell people who DIDN’T get paid since that’s what you claimed in your initial post. I also don’t understand why you’d keep repeating BOB what are you in the 5th fucking grade. Like I give a shit if you or anyone else calls me BOB it’s better than being known as the_mexicutioner.
