Quinton 'Rampage' Jackson video on Wanderlei Silva knockout win at UFC 92
Last night was the most nervous he has ever been in his life. That says a hell of a lot:

Not everyone who picked Wanderlei did because they’re a “hater”, as you so eloquently put it. Rampage showed a lot of strength in both the mental and physical aspects last night. Coming into the match, he had so many issues which is why a ton of people pinned him as as the underdog…. because he legitimately was.

Totally agree… I had Wandi as well but not because I hated on Rampage. Anything but. I (like many others I’m sure) didn’t see this one ending in a draw so you gotta pick someone.

Thank you WebGarden. You put that very well. I was one who thought Wandy was going to kill him. Didn’t happen. And props to Rampage for that. And if we all picked 100% of the fights correctly 100% of the time, mmaloco, then there would be NO reason for them to ever actually happen, b/c geniuses like you would predict them. Hey, congrats though, I’m glad you bet your life savings and children’s college funds b/c you so know what you’re talking about. I mean if you’re that much of an expert, then betting all your possession wouldn’t be a gamble, now would it?

I cant believe no one has mentioned the hits after the ref was trying to stop him. he just kept swinging after the ref was trying to pull him off. didn’t babalu lose his contract for holding a submission too long.
by Buttcrack Obama bin Laden on Dec 28, 2008 3:49 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
brought this up on another thread. Babalu let go and BJ was given a pass for his extended hold on Little Evil.

if the ref was late stopping the fight oh well.that’s the refs fault not Jackson’s,your suppose to fight to the bell or ref stops it.
by jdawg on Dec 28, 2008 5:12 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
The ref had his arms around him trying to pull him off while he delivered to extra hits to a guy with his hands lying on the mat above his head. Wandi can take it though, doubt there will be any ramifications and don’t really think there should be.
by Rawrr on Dec 28, 2008 9:40 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
you can be sure that if wandi was in that position he would have got a few off after the fact as well. they don’t like each other. it’s a kill or be killed kinda thing when both people hate each other and they’re both ape shit crazy.
by jonsey on Dec 28, 2008 11:32 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Gabriel Gonzaga did it in his last fight too…sort of. When you are going for the knockout, you can get caught up in the moment. It is hard to stop swinging as soon as the referee jumps in. The referee was behind Rampage for like 2 seconds. If he was between them and Rampage was sweinging, then that would be one thing, but the referee grabbed Rampage from behind and tried to pull him off. When your adrenaline is up, you can’t always process stuff like that.
I was in a fist fight once and apparently, there was a girl trying to pull me back while I was fighting. I had no recollection of that, but 3 different people told me about it.

Wandy did the same thing to Keith Jardine.
Penn held a choke for a few extra secs on Pulver…
Kos to Yoshida, Anthony Johnson to Speer…It happens, it’s part of the sport…
I hope you criticized them too…

Oh…and don’t forget “golden boy” Liddell vs Couture 3 It’s not PRETTY, but part of the sport- like a late-hit in football. If you really want to blame someone, it’s the REF who’s the authority in the cage.
by Ground-Game on Dec 28, 2008 4:38 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Ground-Game, I think Rampage’s was a little bit more over the line than any of the ones you mentioned. And the ref, though he should have stepped in as soon as Wandi went down cause he was out cold (hands back over his head), WAS dragging Page off.
Page could actually jump to next in line because IMO Evans vs Machida would be a terrible main event. That’s just me though.
by WB on Dec 28, 2008 5:08 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Rampage did nothing wrong. I remember hearing people complain about Rashad hitting Sean Salmon after his brutal knockout. Until the referee stops it, you still fight. The knockout isn’t always obvious when you are in the heat of the moment. The referee was behind Rampage grabbing him. That is difficult to notice when you are going for the knockout of a foe that you are truly nervous about fighting. It was a split-second reaction. I am not sure why people are making such a big deal out of this.
by RyanHobbs on Dec 28, 2008 9:05 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
i think who ever has a problem with the so called late hits needs a reality check. your watching two dudes in a cage with the mentality that only one will make it out alive. most of us in that position would like to make absoulutely sure it would be us and not the other guy whos pushin daisys. if you don’t understand killer instinct than you don’t understand the most primal aspect of fighting. it’s not just a sport for a real warrior.
by jonsey on Dec 28, 2008 11:37 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
The ref was stopping it, he waws pulling Rampage off, or trying too, but he kept swinging Ryan Hobbs… and jonsey, I’m not sure what your point is. I know I am watching two dudes in a cage, that isnt news to me, but the sport I watch involves two concious dudes in a cage, not a helpless athlete getting pounded on by a punk!!
by 1-0 via Arm Triangle on Dec 28, 2008 11:52 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
my point is. how can any one be sure when someones lights are out? rampages job is to not leave it to question. the first thing i was ever taught about fighting was to make sure your opponent doesn’t get up cause if he does you may have made a fatal mistake.

Just my two cents, but I think the quality of reffing has been suspect lately. The ref was out of position and slow to step in when Silva was out. I’d like to see fighters refrain from hitting unconscious opponents, but with adrenaline flowing, I place more blame with the ref.

I AGREE! I didn’t want to see either fighter lose. In fact, I wish Rampage would have gotten the knockout in the 3rd round. Could have been a war, continued to give Wandi credibility and would have been exciting to see those two fight more. I can’t wait to see Wandi compete again and I hope this doesn’t set him back too far.

I felt great for Rampage but terrible for Wandi. Wandi trains so hard. I still feel that Wandi has it in him. People are going to talk about retirement but they were talking about how the old Wandi was back prior to this loss. There are going to be pitfalls for any fighter. Wandi is a hard worker, loves to make a good fight and is quickly becoming a fan favorite here in the U.S. I will always be a fan.

yeah both fights make alot of sense for rampage right. i’d personally be more excited about a fight against shogun though.
alot of people thought he deserved an immediate rematch since the forest fight was controversial so i’d definitely say he deserves to fight for the title right now but forest and shogun make sense too.
by AzCombat on Dec 28, 2008 3:26 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
The Forrest rematch would be good but not sure if that will happen this soon. Are we going to see the dominating Shogun of old against Coleman or the Shogun that Forrest took out? I think there are too many unanswered questions about Shogun until he fights again.

I think that if Lyoto Machida wins his next fight, he should fight Rashad for the title. I could see Keith Jardine fighting Thiago Silva. That would be kind of cool. I definitely want to see Rampage fight Shogun if Shogun wins his next fight.

by RobH86 on Dec 28, 2008 6:55 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
I dont understand something: If he “knew he was a better fighter” than Wandy, why would beating him be “the hardest thing” he’s ever have to do? Yeah he beat Wandy straight up, I’ll give him that. I know I’m not a perfect person. With that being said, I just dont see how anyone respects the guy. The guy hasnt said he was sorry for anything he did in Newport/Costa Mesa last year. And yeah, you can say that he would be admitting guilt and that would screw him in court. But for all the garbage he spits out about God and how God is on his side and being Gods street solidier, you would think that he’d also feel that God would want him to do the right thing and make right to those he has wronged.
by the_mexicutioner on Dec 28, 2008 3:38 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
Being a Christian does not make you perfect – it is actually an acknowledgement that we are not. I am sure that God wants Page to do the right thing but only God and Page know what that is. Personally I think it would be difficult to be obedient with all the temptations facing these fighters. One of the most intriguing facets of Christianity is that every day is a spiritual war between God’s will for our lives(good) and evil. Christians strive to seek God’s will but often fall short… Being Christian is more than proclaiming that we believe in God for Satan believes in God as well. See Matthew 7 and Galatians 5 for more info.

God wants us to love one another for sure. I dont know if Rampage has apologized or not. Has he? … One thing we do know is that Rampage contradicts himself from sentence to sentence and has even expressed that his head is not straight. At this point it is not only what Rampage has to lose (his freedom), it is also what the UFC has to lose (money maker). I would imagine this is the spiritual war he is in and it would explain why his head is not right. What would you do? I pray that someone comes into his life to truly help him and not manipulate him for his physical talents. Food for thought – some cant apologize because they have not forgiven themselves, therefore they become a slave to their sin. It will be hard for Rampage to have true introspection with the UFC’s pull on his life.

Rampage looked awesome. This KO was sweet and I jumped out of my seat when it happened. For sure this will be on the DVD for Knockouts 2008. HAHA to all the people who doubted Rampage and and said Wandy was going to murder him. Looks like karma came around and bit their asses. Wandy fans have to enjoy his old highlights as Rampage made Silva looked washed up in 4 minutes with sweat.
I respect Wandy but I think the axe murderer needs to either retire soon or drop down to 185. He has been knocked out cold 3 of his last 4 fights.

rampage vs evans. page lost a close, controversial decision to lose the belt. I would think he is next in line.
wandy looked to be controlling the fight. then walks in to the same punch liddell did. I was wondering why wandys gameplan didn’t involve any kicks to the body or legs. I thought a straight up brawl would favor rampage. I wonder if this was the strategy couture set up or if wandys emotions and dislike for page got the best of him. either way, i thought evans and page were both losing before the ko and tko. that seems to be a great strategy here lately. take some shots get your timing down and let people walk into their own demise. it looked like rampage was scared a little and was letting wandy think he was going to control the fight. then he just waited till the right moment to unload.
by Buttcrack Obama bin Laden on Dec 28, 2008 3:46 PM EST reply actions 0 recs

did anyone else see Dana’s vlog? rampage had a hard time making 206. it may all be a moot point now that he won, but i still think Dana and Lorenzo have their reservations about rampage fighting or holding the belt. i think they will have him fight another contender and take care of his legal issues before he gets another crack.

I have to be honest. I really wasn’t sure who would win this fight. My initial reaction was to think that Silva was a dead. From the descriptions I heard about Rampage, you’d think he was fighting the Incredible Hulk. Then I heard about the other two fights in PRIDE and I thought Silva might win.
Even the Rampage fans have to admit that Silva was on the right track. You could see the effect the leg kicks were having on Rampage’s stance. Every kick, Rampage would try to lessen the pressure on the leg kick. It was a good strategy and it would have worked in the long term because nobody is able to withstand those during a long enough timeline.
Silva’s “big mistake” is probably that he forget about trying to win the match in the long AND the short term. The short term was what nailed him aka the hook to Silva’s jaw.
I have to admit that watching the moments pre, during and post punch was like watching a drill. You have your opponent throwing punches randomly and you use a shielding technique. Rampage’s was textbook perfect protruding the elbow while sliding your hand back like brushing your hail back. This will definitely take most of the “zing” out of a punch.
The minute I saw this I knew Silva was done. Then came the punch after the shielding. Good turning lining up and I can tell it had to have been a reaction shot just given how quick it came.
Honestly, I always short of considered Rampage to be part of the more “pro-wrestling” aspects of MMA. Gimicky if you like. But, last night showed me that he is definitely a technical and well-trained fighter.

Much respect for both fighters first of all. Rampage had a lot more to risk losing this than Wand had. I mean than in a kind of career make or break way. He kept saying that Wand wasn’t in his head but he still talks about been so nervous about the fight, and also spoke about his other issues that he can now deal with them. You can be sure he was real nervous even looking at him at the build up to the fight and on Dana’s blog he looked very quiet not as outlandish as we know of Rampage. TBH I was hoping this fight would end as a draw or if it was going to win well then for Rampage. I have more respect for Wand as a fighter in so far as win or lose you will get value for your PPV. Rampage’s standup nowadays is much much improved than his days in Pride and I much better than Wands. Rampage has improved over the years whereas Wand seems to have stalled. His cardio and stamina is amazing and if he got an excellent boxing coach in like Freddy or even hell maybe he should have taken up Juanito’s offer I think he will be a force to be reckon with but unless he does something to improve his boxing skills he just going to get KO each time, and I dont want to see that happen. He has the cardio he has the right attitude but MMA in the UFC are just a lot more technical nowadays than a few years ago. Now as far as Rampage continuing to hit Wand while he lay unconscious well he should be penalized for that, it was really disgusting. Rematch? not now too soon and maybe never, until Wand improves his standup at least.

get rid over rampage folks, it was his instinct that made him keep punching. because he wants to get a win over a man o his nightmare, and infact the stoppage is not bad at all. so stop complaining
by mad_drummer on Dec 28, 2008 7:43 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
For everyone who says Rampage should be penalized I have to disagree. When Page hits him his immediate reaction was to destroy his opponent incase he recuperates because everything happens fast. In this case adrenaline is pumping and they have a grudge with each other the KO was fast and out of instinct he runs and punches him more on the ground. I agree that Silva didn’t need to take anymore shots but you can’t blame Page for giving it to him. If you look at Silva’s vicious KO’s in Pride and his KO over Jardine its all part of the sport. The ref had to push Wandy away in the Jardine fight
Ask yourself if that was Wandy who knocked down Page you think he would have just walked away? or would you guys even complain? Its part of the sport, they’re is always going to be controversy and bias comments. Just like when Wandy pushed Page at the weigh-ins. Are you going to say anything about that? Its a violent sport but its one of the most technical also.
Page was simply better. Wandy is a very exciting fighter but he’s been knocked out 3 of his last 4 fights. Its time for him to drop down to 185 or change his brawling style because MMA has evolved.

awesome knockout. i hope he faces rashad next. not sure who would win that. rashad is faster and has become more well rounded, both hace ko power. id much rather see that than machida/silva winner fight evans. i think the winner of that fight should figt forrest or jardine first.

Rampage would own Rashad. Rampage has no fear of Rashad like FOrrest did and his defense is like 25 times better than Chuck Liddell’s “hands down” stance….do you think when Rashad was acting like an ass putting his hand down and blowing kisses like a fag that Rampage would just stand there and watch him? Rashad would have been put to sleep like he needs to be if that would have been Rampage fighting him.
Bring on Machida or Rampage and both will bring Rashad back dwon to reality. Of course Machida’s method would be less exciting maybe.

Wanderlei is becoming more and more like Houston Alexander, he’s gotta stop hitting the weights so hard it affects his speed and movement, he wasn’t this big in his Pride days..

i think everyone would agree that wand looked bigger in pride, not now! lhw r too big for him, a drop to mw could help him alot!

jslim is right! Wanderlei was much bigger in Pride than he is now. And I dont think a move to MW is going to suit Wanderlei, he just doesnt have the chin that he used to have. He has been viciously KO’d 3 times now in the past 2 years and CHuck nearly KO’d him, so I have to agree with Joe ROgan on this one, you can only have your card punched so many times before there is nothing left. Troy Aikman still had great abilities as a QB, but he had to retire because he was getting hit too many times and too many concussions. Wanderlei will be the fighter that is either knocking someone out, or getting knocked out.

yea i agree with Joe Rogan too, but he just needs to stop trying to build muscles to compete at 205 and drop to 185.. he’s just too short! I don’t know if the steroids played a part for Nog and Wand but they’re so slow..

Rampage showed the heart of a champion last night I may have picked Wand but I will give all the respect in the world where it is due Page deserves an imediet title fight
