Forrest, Mir, and Wanderlei are my picks!!! I think you guys are overlooking Mir a little bit. Rashad is no different than Rampage for Forrest. And Wanderlei just has Rampages number!

Cogito….Not saying that Forrest cant win, but I am saying that he CANT win via KO!!! He has never KO’ed anyone, and its not going to start against the undefeated rashad!

I understand john and my third round tko pick of Forrest might be a little over zealous but I am picking Forrest to finish Rashad off in the later rounds due to Rashad just not being prepared for Forrests cardio. Also I like Forrest more than Rashad so I’m completely biased to the fact that Rashad has better ground game and an increasinly better stand up everytime he comes out but you can’t bet against Forrest. If you want my honest opinion this fight isn’t going to be all that exciting. I think Rashad is going to try to counter strike with Forrest until he gets to the later rounds and then use his wrestling to aggravate Forrest and win a UD but I like Forrest as the champ much more so I’m rooting for Forrest.

Cogito: No worries man, I am biased against Forrest….AS long asx we can admit are Bias its ok! I am having a real hard time trying to figure out how this fight will play out.
Copnventional wisdom says that Rashad will use his wrestling and take Forrest down, but I dont think its too great of an idea. I believe Forrest’s best asset is his ground game (jits). I do not respect his stand up, its good but has very little power in his HANDS. If I were Rashad, I would rather stand with Forrest then take him down.
I dont know how this fight will play out, I do believe that its destined to go to a decision! I dont give Forrest much of a chance at finishing Rashad. If Someone is going to finish this fight it will probably be Rashad, but I feel that it will go to a decision. Not saying Forrest cant win, I just not sure that he can FINISH Suga Shad!
Forrest has great Cardio, but Rashad will be in great shape as well. I dont think Cardio will be much of a factor in this match up!

Nog – UD
Rashad – Split Dec.
Wandy – TKO
- I am willing to read intelligent posts as to HOW and WHY people think Page is going to win.
Too many factors going against Page to win this one…
by OJR on Dec 22, 2008 11:36 AM EST up reply actions 0 recs
OJR: Have you seen both of their fights from start to finish? I dont have enough info as to why you think he doesnt stand a chance so I’ll only go into but so much detail. If you watch them objectively and dont get caught up in the spectacular finishes you can see where Page had the upper hand and theoretically could have won. Then you factor in the change in rules between PRIDE & UFC as well as the improvements Page has made and that’s the general idea why myself and other believe he can and will win this fight. Why are you so confident Page doesnt stand a chance?

Machine-
Thanks for your response. Unfortunately, I don’t buy into MMA Math or shoulda, woulda, coulda.
Page lost. Twice. Period.
Changing camps, legal problems, emotional breakdown this past summer…
That’s alot to get past. I think Page fans think Page will win. I like them both but I got Wandy in this one.
by OJR on Dec 22, 2008 1:57 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
MMA Math is alot like percentages in that it can be manipulated to support any side of an argument. That’s why I never use it. It’s also important to know that I’m a fan of both fighters.
If youre asking why I think Page will win then I think it’s a bit abrupt to just toss everything I said into the “shoulda, woulda, coulda” category. If we were only talking about their 2 PRIDE fights and debating only those outcomes then I can see where you’re coming from but thats not the case here.
To be objective, we need to take all of the information from those past fights and translate it to the new landscape which is the UFC, it’s cage and its rules.
We also need to take into account fights they’ve had since then, where these guys current skill sets are and we can’t forget how competitive both fights were either.
If you go back and transport those fights into the cage with the UFC rules then you have fights with no soccer kicks. Those kicks played a heavy role in the outcomes. You replace the ring with an octagon and you have to realize that the 2 spaces are used very differently, each with its own advantages and disadvantages that could go for or against either fighter. You also have less frequent re-starts because there are no ropes to go out of bounds with or get tangled up in.
Now lets talk fighters. Wand has improved cardio and I’m sure training out of Xtreme Couture has improved his game elsewhere but we have yet to see just where that is. Based on his fights with Chuck and Jardine, Wand is the same ole’ Wand but with a bigger gas tank. He’s a brawler who throws wild looping power punches and comes straight ahead.
Rampage on the other hand has much improved stand-up and takes a more technical approach to striking. Thats not just my opinion, it’s been stated from time to time in interviews with other fighters, panels and experts. Everyone in the MMA community saw what Wand did to him in the past with those knee’s but roughly 7 fights later, you’d think others would have taken advantage of that weakness but ever wonder why he’s never been caught with them again? That major hole in his game has since been closed.
So I ask you, based on what we’ve seen in their 2 fights, take away the knee’s and the soccer kicks, factor in the new landscape and rule-set, can you still really say that Wand will win this 3rd fight just as convingly as the last 2?
I dont think the 2 losses were that much of a mental block because after each fight, Page has always maintained that he truly believes he can beat Wand. Everything with the trial and the delirium are causes for concern because fighting is 80-90% mental and if his mind isnt right, then he’ll be handicapped. But if the Rampage that took Chucks belt and unified the titles by beating Hendo shows up, I say this fight is his to win.

Excellent argument.
You have given me something to think about.
The other “veteran” posters should take lessons from you in proper rebuttals.
Nice post.

Thanks for being cordial OJR but I owe it all to you. Had you not issued that open call to debate, I’d never have spent as much time on it.
I just hope the winner of this fight gets next crack at the title. That’s all I really ask. If not, who else do you match them against?

Rashad is no different than Rampage for Forrest ? Are you high my friend ? If you are than give me some, I want to smoke that thing your smoking so I can be the guy who thinks he knows everything, Just like you.
Rashad destroyed Chuck, What makes you think Forrest will beat Rashad ? And that easy ?

Frank mir will gas by the time he walks to the Octagon!
I believe the winners will be:
Rashad
Nog
Rampage which will set up UFC 99 “Black on Black Crime”
Rampage vs. Rashad for the title
UFC 96 news:
Brandon Vera vs. Mike Patt? whoever he is!
by john on Dec 22, 2008 8:13 AM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Is it just me, or does Vera make way too much money to be fighting a guy like Mike Patt?
BTW, This is Vera’s last fight on his contract, but contract negotiations are going smoothly and he is close to a new deal with the UFC.
Contract to look out for is Wanderlei. After his fight with Page, wandy will only have 1 fight left under contract with Zuffa. I expect them to resign him so it doesnt really matter!
by john on Dec 22, 2008 10:02 AM EST up reply actions 0 recs
what? UFC resign Wanderlei? I don’t think so, that is retarted. Unless Rampage kills Wanderlei, there is no reason to resign him. I am beginning to think Rampage and Rashad are going to win like you guys think, which is ok for me because I would love to see some black on black crime and would love to see Rashad with his lights out from getting KO’d by Rampage.

Where in their fight did you see Rashad “destroy” Chuck? Sure he KO’d him but to destroy someon you can’t just get the KO, you should probably be winning the entire fight. Chuck was still on top of his game and winning until Rashad landed that shot. and also what does beating Chuck have to do with Rashad not getting tooled by Forrest? we don’t use MMA math here.
by Cogito Ergo Sum on Dec 22, 2008 8:49 AM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Dude, You need to learn one thing, In a fight nobody has the upperhand, because anything can happen, SO NO CHUCK WAS NOT WINNING THE FUCKING FIGHT.
This is a fight not a fucking video game or something.
by Il Nino on Dec 22, 2008 12:19 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Chuck WAS winning the fight as he had won the 1st rnd….What is so hard to understand here???
by McArthur on Dec 22, 2008 12:24 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
ok, so Chuck won the 1st round. Who was winning the 2nd round up until the KO….Rashad. Let’s say the KO never happened and Rashad kept that same momentum going and won the 2nd round. Depending on who won the 3rd round, at that point it could have gone either way, right? So even without the KO, best case scenario it was a toss-up. But Rashad knocked him into next year (literally) because CL wont be fighting again until well into 2009. So why are people still debating this? It’s over and done with just like Chucks career. Muahahahahhaha!!!!
by Machine on Dec 22, 2008 1:28 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
First off “the storm” you shouldn’t act like such a child. Now for my points I already know anything can happen in a fight but that does not change the fact that someone is winning and someone losing during the entire fight, sometimes its to close to call. Also Chuck was winning the fight, if it had gone longer theres a chance he would have lost sure but it doesn’t change the fact that you trying to use this fight to compare how Rashad will fight against Forrest is called MMA math and bogus.
Ok now if you had taken the time to properly read JV’s comment you would have noticed he compared Rashad to Quinton. Where does he say Forrest will easily beat Rashad, did Forrest easily beat Rampage? Also if you would stop acting like a child and attacking my statements maybe you can find the time to answer my questions to. How was Rashad destroying Chuck? because it looked like he KO’d him but I never saw any destroying going on. Also what does Rashad beating Chuck have to do with Rashad beating Forrest? Grow up man and start putting some thought behind your words instead of just hate.
by Cogito Ergo Sum on Dec 22, 2008 2:25 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Um Il Nino, Rampage also destroyed Chuck. He knocked him out just like Rashad did. And what did Forrest do?? He tore Rampage apart for five rounds, so stop acting like you know everything too.
by RampageByKnockout on Dec 22, 2008 1:34 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
LOL Forrest did NOT tear Rampage apart for 5 rounds. He tore him apart for 1 round and even then I wouldnt say he tore him apart because there was no real damage done other than the leg kick that took out his knee. I’ve watched that fight 3 times since that night and I counted the flurries between the 2 and Rampage was landing more shots and doing more damage in 3 of those 5 rounds. I still dont see how Forrest won that fight but moving forward, I’m going to learn to accept what happened and quit cryin over it (for now). What’s done is done.

Who is Chuck?
Ohhhh Liddell! Gotcha.
Rashad has had trouble against top guys like Tito and Bisping. The ko of Chuck was incredible, but Chuck left it wide open.
I see this going to a decision with Forrest taking the 2nd, 4th and 5th.
Just kidding about the Liddell joke…. :)

Ok I’m exited for this card. Rashad vs Forest is a toss up fight everyone can win, i will like rashad to win but can go either way. There no way Mir beat Nog anythin Mir can do Nogueira can do better Nog have much better Bjj than Mir Better stand up better chin Nog can’t be Knock out and had more hearth than Mir. Quinton Wandy i think Wandy should take this one but i never count out Rampage but Wandy have destroy him twice so he know how to beat page.

I think you’re all nuts for picking Mir over Nog. I think Nog will actually KO/TKO Mir via better boxing.
I think winners will be Nog, Rashad and Wanderlei.
I hope Forrest can pull it off but I have my doubts.
by Tim on Dec 22, 2008 8:17 AM EST reply actions 0 recs
Here is the breakdown:
Rashad vs Forrest— Forrest will start mixing leg kicks with boxing and stay busy with the jab because he is taller and has the reach. When Rashad trys to get closer for a takedown or heavy combo, Forrest will circle away or clinch and knee. Rashad will have to counter punch and learn to check kicks. Round one will be all stand up neither can finish the other on the ground. Rashad by TKO round 4.
Wanderlie is better than Jackson on the feet and ground. Unless Jackson lands a big one he has no shot. TKO round 2.
Big Nog vs Mir—Mir will try to throw big kicks and knees. Nog will stand for a minute or two and trade then he will go to the ground and Frank will pull half guard, hip escape and get choked out 2 minutes later after some ground n pound to open him up and a bit of failed whatevers from Mir. No one taps Nog. Round 1 Nog by submission
by hatteras on Dec 22, 2008 11:14 AM EST reply actions 0 recs
I think Forrest will use his size differance, and cardio advantage to wear down Rashad ( clinching, and pushing Rashad up against the cage when Rashad closes the distance ) Once Rashad gasses, and he will. Forrest should be able to pepper him with jabs and leg kicks all the way to a UD.
I dont know what to expect with Rampage, and Silva. We just dont know how Page will look. Ill call rampage, by UD 29-28
As far as Mir and Nog go. Well I like Frank Mir , but how in the hell does he win this fight? I doubt he can sub Nog. Mir hasnt shown he can KO anyone much less a guy with Nogs chin, and there is no way in hell Mir’s cardio is going to carry him to a win. Nog TKO round4
by LOKIE on Dec 22, 2008 12:18 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
Rashad vs Forest – Rashad TKO similar fashion to Jardine vs Forest
Mir vs Nog – I know I’m shooting for the stars here but I would love to see Mir pull off a shoulder lock like he did against Pete Williams. But I really cant pick a winner here. I don’t think either guy will be submitted, Mir has proven to have weak cardio in the past, but with a fight of this magnitude I think Mir will show in best shape he’s ever been in. So I’m gonna go with a unanimous decision for either Mir or Nog. I’m hoping this fight will be a ground war with each one going for submission after submission making for a fun ass fight to watch.
Silva vs Rampage – I’m gonna go with a unanimous decision for Silva. I just think both men don’t want to lose this fight and will play it safe to earn the win. Nothing crazy will happen in this fight.
