I am not impressed by his performance. rua has a good leg kick. I was waiting dor Dos Santos to remove his head with a viscous uppercut

Carwin vs Gonzaga at UFC 96!!! Finally they give him someone!
by BNF on Dec 20, 2008 10:58 AM EST up reply actions
i read that earlier is that actually true, cuz if so gonzaga is going to murder him or carwin will prove hes the real deal
by Jared on Dec 20, 2008 11:38 AM EST up reply actions
I don’t think Carwon will be owned.. Carwin has a great chance to win this one. Shane’s stand-up is a little messy, i saw that in his last fight. His hands we’re down, and he definately showed some holes in his punching game. But i woulnd’t count him out yet, Shane can definatley take this fight to the gorund, and win by some ref stoppage or something, and with the camp Shanes training with(Jacksons) im sure they will develope a master-ful plan to defeat “Napao”.?
by ndnman on Dec 20, 2008 12:16 PM EST up reply actions
Why in the world would Carwin take it to the ground? Gabe’s best strength is his BJJ. Carwin is a KO artist.
by Yeahright on Dec 20, 2008 1:36 PM EST up reply actions
Yeah but he gets his KO’s from GnP not standing. His strength is wrestling but that may not be the best strategy against a BJJ black belt. I think Carwin would be best served by wearing down Gonzaga and trying to finish him in the second round.

These two trainign together intensly = bad news for their opponents. God help mark coleman.

I know Shogun is the centerpiece here but I must say Dos Santos was throwing some nice combo’s. I wasn’t excited to see Shogun fight Coleman because I expect it to be a lopsided performance favoring Rua. But after watching this clip, I’m anxious to just see him back in true form again.
by Machine on Dec 20, 2008 5:45 PM EST up reply actions
I definitely hope he’s back to his Pride form. His striking looked good in the clip, but it’s hard to tell what kind of shape he’s in. I wondered about him wearing a shirt, since he took a lot of heat before his last fight when pictures of him looking soft came out. I certainly hope with his repaired knee that being in shape isn’t an issue anymore.
by GregC on Dec 20, 2008 5:51 PM EST up reply actions
Word up man me too, he is too good to see him sitin on the sidelines like he has been, or having lackluster performances.
If we wanna see him back to normal, training with a very capable guy who is a weight class above him like Dos Santos is a very good way to go about that.
by The Anomaly on Dec 20, 2008 5:52 PM EST up reply actions
Yeah I’m glad you brought up his conditioning because it’s a valid concern. If he hasn’t learned his lesson from the Griffin loss then he never will so I expect his wind to be where it should be (crosses-fingers).
by Machine on Dec 20, 2008 6:18 PM EST up reply actions
Yeah I think Shogun will be back in true form guys, I really hope so to(like everybody), he’s just too good to be sitting on the sidelines or having lackluster performances.
But I think training with somebody bigger and as capable as dos santos is really the perfect way to get both of them to benefit to the fullest.
But I am of the opinion that if this fight doesnt showboat the Shogun of old, then I might have to start thinking that he is one of the Pride fighters that has not made a very good transition to UFC.

shogun should drop to 185, rather than that he looks good.. even though it’s not necessary against coleman..
by shamo84 on Dec 20, 2008 10:17 AM EST reply actions
man, I feel bad for shogun. he’s going to get humiliated by coleman.

You must be on crack if u think Shogun will lose to Coleman…he will finish Mark inside 1 round, either by KO or TKO. I see Shogun fighting for the title by the end of 2009, and I see him winning it whoever he fights against.
by jayshogun on Dec 20, 2008 10:33 AM EST up reply actions
could shogun make 185???
also
could dos santos make 205??
because ifthey can i wouldlike to see them do itimagine shogun at middleweight

When was the last time Coleman has beaten anyone significant? When was the last time Coleman has laid some good ground and pound on someone? Everyone that comes out of Hammerhouse is very one-dimensional. Coleman’s striking and BJJ is subpar. The only way I can see Coleman winning is pinning him down for 15 minutes, and that’s gonna be very hard for him. Shogun’s ground game is decent/pretty good. That omoplata sweep on Arona is an indication of what he can do. The guy is 44 years old. Who else besides Couture has been good at 44? No one.
Seriously, I read all these comments that Coleman is gonna destroy Shogun. Did you guys watch PRIDE? Did you barely start watching UFC? I’ll admit Coleman does have a chance, but very small. Alright, rant over.

dos santos looks like he could compete at 205 he doesn’t look that bigger than forrest griffen

theres no way hes losing to coleman, if shogun loses to coleman he should retire immediately
by Toad on Dec 20, 2008 10:36 AM EST reply actions
yeah haha i agree shoguns kicks looked good but i think if he loses to coleman he should rethink his career cause his injuries wouldve tooken over and well never see the old shogun
by Jared on Dec 20, 2008 11:39 AM EST reply actions

Wow…they sure get many fans out to watch them spar.
by introvert on Dec 20, 2008 12:06 PM EST reply actions
Brazilians are always very private in their training… It would be rare to see any fans around.

Shogun does look good in this video. Thats the style he used the Pride days. THe stand-up is similar, and the kicks with the strikes will be the same. Shogun will defeat COleman, and maybe one more fight after that for a title shot…Word to yo momma
by ndnman on Dec 20, 2008 12:18 PM EST reply actions
i could watch that all day long. i don’t understnd finishing a combo with a leg kick all the time like shogun does and many others do. it seems effective because because it mixes up the targets but it doesnt seem that safe when theres a straight counter coming the same time as the kick( a counter to the one two thrown up top before the leg kick i mean.) kinda risky move for the pay off but hey what do i know? i’m not a fighter or a trainer just a casual observer.
by jonsey on Dec 20, 2008 12:41 PM EST reply actions
the reason for the low kick after a combo is so the opponent doesnt check them… you throw a punch or two to get them to cover their head and ignore the legs and you punish their undefended legs
by brendan on Dec 20, 2008 5:12 PM EST up reply actions
Man all the pride haters come out and play huh??…I think he looks really good but of course most of the people who post here dont know shit about fighting just what they watch on UFC. If you actually have trainned at one point of your life you would have noticed he has really good kicks, sharp countering, good speed on his jabs, constantly moving, he was pretty accurate on his shoots and he was working both the body and the head..but cheers all the fucking experts who think they know what they’re talking about!!
by William Blake on Dec 20, 2008 1:10 PM EST reply actions
Have to agree with you William on all points. Shogun is looking really sharp. Liking the way he’s ending most cobinations with a kick on the end and his head movement and footwork is crisp. Think some people posting fail to appreciate that these guys are part of the elite of professional MMA ..maybe they should get in there and have a light sparr with Shogun or Dos Santos to really appreciate the level these guys are at. There fuckin monsters make no mistake!
by John Lenegan on Dec 22, 2008 8:17 AM EST up reply actions
that was a great sparring session to watch. shogun was very fluid mixing the strikes up and whips that leg around brilliantly for the leg kicks. was like ballet/human chess. beautiful. i train muy thai, but i think (would hope, anyway) that it doesn’t have to take someone training strikes to recognize how talented shogun is just from that 4 and a half minutes of messing around. look forward to watching him neutralize mark coleman with a faster stronger version of this; will probably take just about as long, too.

Coleman v Shogun will not happen, one of them will get injured.
by DownUnder on Dec 20, 2008 5:33 PM EST reply actions
arthurzero your exactly right beautiful punching combinations always finished with a nice leg kick that was a little clinic he just put on for dos santos then
by brad on Dec 20, 2008 7:10 PM EST reply actions
Ra was injured leading up to the Griffin fight and had little time to get in shape. I think everyone is pulling for Rua to beat Coleman after that dispicable roid rage celebration at the snapping of Rua arm last time. De Santos is a good striker with a lot of power. Rua has it all.
