Rashad Evans: UFC Undisputed 2009 video game 'As real as it gets'

Props: IGN.com

Quoteworthy:

"I've seen (the UFC videogame) and it's amazing," he said. "I've never seen a videogame like it. The person actually looks real and when you get hit the flesh moves the way it would actually move and the characters have so much texture and look so real – it's amazing.... I think it's very important (that a knockout or submission can happen at any time). How many times have you played videogames and you have to go through the whole health bars before you finally get 'em, and that can be a pain and it's not reality. Sometimes you go out there and you just get that one-hitter quitter and it's over.... We're not standing there with 16-ounce gloves on. We're wearing four-ounce gloves, and there's little room for error. You get hit with one of those bad boys and you can call it goodnight. The game will help people see there's more to it than that though."

Number one light heavyweoght contender Rashad Evans is impressed with the upcoming video game from THQ, which is dubbed "UFC Undisputed 2009" and scheduled for a Spring release. He is among several top fighters featured in the upcoming title. He will take on Forrest Griffin at UFC 92: "The Ultimate 2008" for real on December 27.

sorry u bought the PS3 just for this game… Microsoft makes a better gaming platform at this point and the controls will be tighter on MSFT. Only type of game I would prefer Sony for would be Madden/other EA franchised team sport games. U got a relatively cheap and realistically very good blue ray player though. So u got that goin for u.

Sorry, got off topic. Game does look sick tho. Can’t wait to try it. They probly shoulda got EA involved cuz the “Fight Night” franchise is phenomenal. Anyone who hasn’t tried it…even if u don’t like boxing….is doing themselves a great disservice

I’m 30 and I’ve played games since the early eighties and have a bunch of consoles with games, if this game will be as good as it looks it will own all my games!
Getting it for my PS3.

1.) You obviously type faster than you can think. Check your facts.

2.) Read the whole thread before you make a comment and make an a** of yourself.

Everybody knows video games are fantasy world

and this pic looks way too gay

by Anger Jack on Dec 19, 2008 3:40 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

is the homophobia really necessary?

by GregC on Dec 19, 2008 4:29 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Hahahaha @ Anger Jack… you just find out about that games are fantasy?
It doesnt look the slightest gay to me, but I guess it takes one to know one…
If this looks gay then all mma look gay in your eyes.
A question for you: If mma look gay and you having problem with it because you’re getting rock hard, why are you watching it???
The normal fan would see to guys fighting, but you see two men making out…

by JonnyBoy on Dec 19, 2008 11:02 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

why do you check it out then if you think is gay… maybe you wanted it for gay purposes… I just like to see 2 men beatin the crap out of each other!!!

Also, They’ve got Brock KO’ing Nog on Dana’s blog. They should really get that glitch fixed.

Other than playing Halo in college I’ve never really been into video games; but if a buddy of mine gets this I may have to give it a shot. It looks pretty amazing.

was the 16 oz thing a little pop at boxing?just a little confused because i box and use 14oz for sparring and 9oz to fight?

by scott on Dec 19, 2008 2:00 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

This will be sweet. Hope its better then the old school UFC games they had where it would end in 3 seconds every fight. I still want to know more about the controls. Bet its all graphical and no context based. The way I would love to see it is it is like this…

PS3:

L2 left leg control for kicks
R2 Right leg control for kicks
Left analog stick to aim head, body or leg kick.

L1 left punch
R1 right punch
Left analog stick to aim head or body

Make the right analog stick do 4 different things in different positions.

standing, push up and you shoot to take the guy down
standing, push back to sprawl and avoid the shot

standing, push left single leg shot
standing, push right single right leg shot
standing, push back and you pull guard.

make the clinch be contextual so when your close enough and push up he wont shoot but will clinch and same goes for the kicks, instead of kicks, they turn to knees when in clinch.

what you guys think?

by What? on Dec 19, 2008 2:02 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

I think you have too much time on your hands :)

by LJ on Dec 19, 2008 4:12 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Read the latest preview on ign, it specifies the control system. Although in slightly less detail than that it must be said…

by Matt on Dec 19, 2008 9:30 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

God Damn it! You would think they would put a better picture than that quir crap..At least someone getting KTFO would do!

by Phat E on Dec 19, 2008 2:22 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

I’m not a big gamer but this game looks fricken SWEEEEEEET! I’m thinkin of buyin a xbox360 just to play this game. its gonna be awesome I hope! ill be anderson the spider silva ofcoarse!

by yo quiero taco bell on Dec 19, 2008 2:42 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Rashad looks like he hit the tanning bed in that shot. With so many moves I don’t see how the game could get them all in. Ground alone is too much

by hatteras on Dec 19, 2008 2:56 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

I wonder if this game will live up to the hype or if it will just be a button masher. Seems like it would be hard to control all the grappling/wrestling. Those pics look pretty impressive tho…

by stevo on Dec 19, 2008 3:16 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

I also bought a ps3 just for this game
Can’t wait

I heard it got a 9.6 out of 10
And that’s sayin before its released game critiques
When does a realistic sport game get that?

by phenomenal angel on Dec 19, 2008 3:42 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Uh dude..depends on the source…madden and nhl 09 this year got 9.0’s

by What? on Dec 19, 2008 3:48 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I don’t care how realistic the graphics are, to truly capture a Rashad fight you have to have his wife cageside screaming her head off.

by BigFatManiac on Dec 19, 2008 4:04 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

if they can get bruising and cuts in this game that would make it out of this world. i hope they just dont make everyone, one punch “ko-able”. like how stupid would it be playing as justin mccully and knocking out big nog. they better incorparate fighters chins, and knockout power right to how the actual fighter is

by Jared on Dec 19, 2008 4:06 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Will take a couple years for them to do this right…also how many fighters u think the game will have

by What? on Dec 19, 2008 4:07 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

I wonder if the fighters from Greg Jackson’s camp will tweak their nipples pre-fight.

by LJ on Dec 19, 2008 4:13 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

LOL – maybe they can have BJ smoking dope and Leben & Franca doing the roids… Good Times, Good Times

by TapedUpPair on Dec 19, 2008 4:49 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

are u kidding?

Of course they will!

You’re probably being sarcastic, they always do this bro!

by noname on Dec 19, 2008 7:27 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

There is cuts and bruises over 50 different spots on face and body
And I think its around 80 fighters
Some might have been taken out over recent problems.

Nhl and madden have a game every year not a lot new to expect from previous games

by phenomenal angel on Dec 19, 2008 4:51 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

aww niice this game should be awesome :D

by Jared on Dec 19, 2008 4:58 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

THQ doesn’t make very good games. I predict average/playable. But the roster will be good enough to make up for disposable gameplay.

by robthom on Dec 19, 2008 5:25 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

robthom – It has more to do with the developers involved, technology, and overall design. This looks to be a home run. From the YouTube video I saw (one of those pre-UFC event countdowns that Dana White was doing), THQ is designing some new game physics, and using some interesting IA with their NPCs during single-player mode. They mentioned the realistic feel a few times, too. This was when the cameras followed Dana to the THQ headquarters or whatever, and he got to try it out, play it, while they were still working on it.

41 ans stoked for this game, gaming in general can be blast for stepping out of reality every now and then…

Forrest has been workin on his triceps ……….

by Colin D on Dec 19, 2008 7:13 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

This is what I see happening in the fight!

Nog by TKO rd 2

Wanderlei by murder round 3!

UFC WTF! Why is lister/okami and chonan/blackburn on the undercard at the expense of a TUF douche?

by noname on Dec 19, 2008 7:26 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

I wish they would add Overeem, Id love to knee him in the balls.

Canadian Buddha and MMACrossfire, got both you beat. Just turned 52 mid-December, I can’t wait for this game. I’ve been an avid gamer since Lunar Lander came out for my VIC20 back in ’83.

by Toelock on Dec 19, 2008 10:08 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Toelock, you got me beat by a few yrs, but i too played Lunar Lander on the old VIC20…the old tape deck, boy we’ve come a long way. Lunar Lander was much better than pong.

Anybody else noticing Forrest’s chest hair disappearing in the video game? :)

You shall talk with Anger Jack and Adam G about this…

by JonnyBoy on Dec 20, 2008 6:32 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I want some old timers in the game, like John Hess and SAFTA. I would match him up against the modern warriers. That would bring another fun element to the game. How about Andy Anderson versus Roger Huerta?

by Matt on Dec 20, 2008 9:59 AM EST reply actions   0 recs

Sounds great, would’ve loved to see Genki Sudo in it too (wont happen but would be cool).
