ultimately I think fedor will try to take arlovski down, if andrei can stop that he has a decent chance of winning.

All I have to say is, Fujita caught Fedor on the chin and he recovered.. so what? If Arlovski catch’s him on the chin and he does the Fish Dance in front of the pit bull it’s over.

by O damn he got caught on Dec 19, 2008 10:06 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

you hit the nail directly on the head.i think this will come down to who catches the first big shots.AA will dance all around and find an opening and make him fish dance(lol) then finish.

great looking card…i like these matchups…especially at lightweight with horodecki vs. the upgrade..

by TabascoSAUCE on Dec 19, 2008 10:18 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I don’t kow about that, they are both great sambo practitioners. If the old “pre ko” AA shows up, he has a chance, if the timid post KO AA shows up, he’s in huge trouble. I don’t want to hear about his last few performances, he won, but didn’t look that great!

by kevin on Dec 19, 2008 10:34 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Don’t give too much credit to AA’s sambo. His big accomplishments were at the Youth level. He’s setting himself up with this confidence boost if he comes in like he did against Nelson.

by NameNotRequired on Dec 19, 2008 4:44 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

AA only had 2 weeks for the Nelson fight…the question is can AA box Fedor for 3 rounds without getting caught on the chin or taken down?

by Robert on Dec 19, 2008 7:07 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Thats funny, good one man lololololol!!!! Your trying to be funny right? This fight will be like all the others, less than 2 minutes in Andre will be lying on the mat wondering if anyone got the # of that truck that just hit or submitted him. Either way this will not even be a fight. Andre is tough but he is more like Tito tough (paper champion), the kind were he is tough as long as he is fighting weaker guys he knows he can beat. I used to like Andre but once he got the belt and had to fight #1 contenders, well we all saw what happened, he couldnt handle it. I figure he is in it for the money and is mentally weak. Fedor will go through him like he is not even there.

by Spyder on Dec 19, 2008 10:51 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

All the others? Less than 2 minutes? Why don’t you LIST all these other TOP TEN fighters Fedor has disposed of in the first 2 minutes (Cans don’t count). Here, I’ll list them for you, Tim Sylvia, that’s it and I don’t even know if he is still a top ten with all his resent losses, he’s washed up. AA finished Sylvia just as fast, when Timmy was in his prime. Fedor has always managed to come out on top against top 10 fighters, but he wins by decisions, not the destruction in the first 2 minutes that you are dreaming about.

Nog was the only man to battle him tooth and nail to the end and he was in every second of their fights. CC backpedaled the whole time except for one punch. Fedor should smash AA and then sub him on the ground with a kimura.

I’m w/ JV. I hope AA knocks him out. I doubt it will happen, but I’d love to see it.

This will be a stand up war with a few clinches involved. I know arlovski personally and his ground game is nothing short of sickkkk…They both are great sambo practitioners. Standup power will def be on fedor’s side. I cant wait for this fight. Whole russian community here is wiating for this and rusdsian TV keeps bringing this up..pretty funny actually.

If Fedor even touches AA’s chin early in the fight, watch for the AA that was afraid to engage against “Mr. Peepee taste”…….the only chance AA has is to KO Fedor early…if not he will be overwhelmed.

by introvert on Dec 19, 2008 10:26 AM EST reply actions   0 recs

arlovski has far less chance at winning this than big poopy did. i mean look at andres record… its average, with average ppl beaten. i like the guy.. but he gets way more credit than he deserves.

Matt Sera beating GSP was a WAY larger upset than this would be if it happens. Not to mention Couture over Silvia, Evans KOing Liddell etc… That being said, with a sport like mma with so many crazy upsets happening all the time; how are you gonna completely count out a guy like Arlovski?

by O Damn he got caught on Dec 19, 2008 11:47 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

cz he is fighting Fedor

That’s about the only time you can do it

by Anger Jack on Dec 19, 2008 2:24 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

That’s to be expected from someone who hangs off of Fedor’s nuts.

by Gord on Dec 29, 2008 2:40 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Roy Nelson took Andre to the ground without trouble, so I will guarantee you that if Fedor decides to take Andre down and he will get him down with ease if he wants to, it will be game over. Andres only chance at winning this fight is to catch Fedor with a KO punch and I just don’t see this happening. Andre wont be able to submit him, hell if Big Nog can’t, then there is no way in hell that Andre will be able to. Fedor will win this fight with either GnP or Submission.

by rydinlow on Dec 19, 2008 11:43 AM EST reply actions   0 recs

arlovski took nelson down, why does everbody always get that wrong. andrei took him down and then got reversed. the fight would have never seen the ground if andrei had not taken it there. re-watch it if you dont believe me.

by b.w. on Dec 19, 2008 1:40 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Eventually Affliction and the rest of the non UFC promotions will run out of top level heavyweights for Fedor to destroy. UFC will always get the best up and comers, and when that happens he will have no choice but to fight in the UFC. Anyone that thinks a WAMMA belt holds more credibility than a UFC belt is insane. Fedor is one of my favorite fighters but realistically if you want to be considered the best in the world you have to go to the UFC and clean out your division. I have no doubts that Fedor is the best pound for pound fighter in the world, but to solidify his legacy he needs to compete in the UFC. After he beats Arlovski, Barnette, Overeem etc whoes left?

by rctrue on Dec 19, 2008 11:44 AM EST reply actions   0 recs

I agree but if Big Nog ends up with the belt after Mir and Lesnar victory, the need for Fedor to prove himself in the UFC is hugely diminished since he owned Nog in the past and Nog would have run through the UFC.

by noneed4name on Dec 19, 2008 12:42 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Agreed………. Tim, AA and Josh are right up there with any UFC top 3 in the heavyweight division

by Robert on Dec 19, 2008 7:33 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

But that didn’t happen, Nog got OWNED instead(something Fedor couldn’t do),so Fedor has everything to prove. GG also showed Fedor how to finish CC in the first. Fedor has to get in the UFC and fight the guys who destroyed the ones Fedor could only decision.

by Gord on Dec 29, 2008 2:48 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

It does hold more credibility than the UFC belt, because the best guy in the world has the belt….plain and simple. It could be made out of cardboard, and have sparkles and Smarties glued to it…as long as the #1 guy has it…it’s credible.

by introvert on Dec 19, 2008 12:54 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

That makes no sense what-so-ever.

by Gord on Dec 29, 2008 2:53 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

BNF was making similar comments in a different thread so I’ll post my same questions to you rctrue….Fedor may have never fought in the greatest organization on the planet, but he beat the best fighter(in his division) they have twice already. Really Fedor’s toughest competition is outside the UFC. If he runs out of opponents outside the octagon, you can be sure he would run out of them inside the octagon. The list of game opponents for Fedor in the UFC is just as, if not more, short than outside the UFC. Besides a 3rd fight with Big Nog, which fight do you really want to see? Mir? Come on. Lesnar? I would just to see Lesnar get destroyed. Couture? Again, come on. This notion that Fedor won’t have proven himself unless he fights in the UFC is BS. If you really believe Fedor has to go to the UFC and clean out all the HW’s(even though he’s beaten the best one they have twice), then you’re the insane one.

by Diceman on Dec 19, 2008 1:02 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Very true Diceman.

For those haters who think the UFC is the be all end all of the HW division, check out your interim champ in this vid

by introvert on Dec 19, 2008 1:16 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I will never understand why you guys hate the UFC so much, but that is besides the point. And I guess to answer your question it will depend on how long Fedor wants to fight. He will run out of top competition to fight within 1 to 1-1/2 years. In that time new stars will emerge in the UFC. You could have Brock holding the belt, an undefeated Carwin or Cain holding the belt. They have new talent all the time Dos Santos. They just signed a 20 year old named Struve who is already 22-2. Also, who knows who else the UFC will sign in that time or if Affliction will even survive the year.

I can’t figure out for the life of me why you wouldn’t want to see a new talent emerge and have him come and fight in the UFC. You guys are all clinging to the argument that he beat Nog twice, we get it. But that argument only holds water if he holds the belt the entire time Fedor is fighting out of the UFC and that is a BIG IF!

by BNF on Dec 19, 2008 1:29 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

So, what if Dos Santos or another guy you mentioned wins the belt from Nog one day? The fact would still remain the same…Fedor is better than the new UFC champ.

by introvert on Dec 19, 2008 2:00 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

There is plenty of talent for Fedor outside UFC – Barnett, Big Foot Silva, Pee-wee Herman (more than enough for me to keep buying Fedor fights).

If you think Lesnar as UFC HW Champ – just look at Fedor vs Hong Man, other than Brock – UFC HW division does not have much to offer for Fedor as interesting match-ups.

The problem with UFC – is yes – let the new talent come, but 1 loss or 2 & you are out. Lesnar will be probably perfect example – after next fight he will be 2-2 in UFC & his contract is over

by Anger Jack on Dec 19, 2008 2:36 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Intro, if a new star emerges Fedor would be better according to MMA math, but you are smart enough to know MMA math never works. Why would you not want to see that fight?

by BNF on Dec 19, 2008 2:49 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

BNF. sometimes i think some guys are only fans of big nog’s b/c fedor beat him twice. you know, so they can say “see, fedor beat your ufc hw champ twice”. some fans. :)

by b.w. on Dec 19, 2008 3:08 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

BNF-I don’t hate the UFC…at all. You will hear no argument from me about the UFC being hands down the best mma organization on the planet. However, I’m objective enough to realize that Fedor does not need the UFC. We could argue until we’re blue in the face about Fedor’s competition inside/outside the UFC. I think the main difference is that you’re counting on some of the younger talent to actually prove themselves to be worthy opponents, or for new talent to come into the UFC that could challenge Fedor. I’m saying that right now, and for the near future, Fedor’s best competition is outside of the UFC. IF Fedor runs through AA, Barnett, and others over the next year or year and a half and runs out of good fighters to take on, AND the UFC has some of that young talent developed, THEN I could see your argument. As of now, there’s plenty of top HW’s outside the UFC for him to prove himself against, and he doesn’t have to adhere to Dana White’s Nazi contracts either. I mean at least let him run out of good fights outside the UFC before you start complaining about him not fighting in the UFC. On a side note, I’ve been a fan of Big Nog’s since before he came to the UFC or I listened to a bunch of UFC nut-huggers complain about Fedor not fighting in the UFC.

My favourite HW’s…..

1. Fedor
2. Nog

I don’t hate Nog, I’m just smart enough to know that when fighter A beats fighter B twice….fighter A is better than fighter B.

There’s no hate…I really like Nog. I also like CC, Herring, Arona, Barnett, and AA. Fedor’s just better than them…it’s not my fault….it’s theirs.

Diceman, I am not complaining, I just want to see it. Why is that a big deal?

Intro, you don’t get it…

by BNF on Dec 19, 2008 5:08 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Theres no argument that Fedor has proven himself. Hes by far the best in the world. The problem is he’s only fought 3 times in 2 years. Lindland, Choi, and Sylvia. If you think those 3 are top competitors in the HW division than your crazy. I dont think theres a HW in the world right now that can beat him. as for the WAMMA belt. You have to beat a champion to become a champion any fighter will tell you. That belt would be much more credible if he beat Josh to get it, but Tim, come on!!! Tim had just got submitted by NOG. I would much rather see Fedor fight Couture, Valesquez, Lesnar, or even NOG again. AA is gonna get destroyed.

by rctrue on Dec 19, 2008 2:44 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

You are the insane one, because Nog isn’t the best in the UFC and neither was CC, however these were Fedor’s toughest opponent. You make all these claims and give ZERO facts to back them up. The very simple fact that Nog and CC have been DESTROYED and FINISHED in the UFC and the fact that Fedor couldn’t finish either one of them is more than enough reason to say Fedor hasn’t proved shit as to how he would fair against the UFC HW’s. News Flash, Nog and CC are not the best HW’s out there, they are only the best Fedor has faced. Not to even mention, stylistically there are MUCH tougher fights for Fedor and AA just happens to be one of them.

by Gord on Dec 29, 2008 3:05 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

You anwsered your own question after he beats the rest he will have beaten every exceptional heavyweight in his era.

What, he’s gotta go to the ufc to beat carwin, spic valezuez, and brock-yeah right.

Fedor ain’t a favorite fighter of mine but once he beats barnett he’s like—A MMA GOD!

by noname on Dec 19, 2008 11:00 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Fedor is better in every aspect of mma than Andre. Boxing is the only aspect AA is even on par with Fedor. No one can beat Fedor he is the Babe Ruth of mma. Submission round 1. Question is who is next for Fedor? Is there anyone who would be favored against Fedor? He beat big Nog twice so jiu-jitsu is out. He beat Cro Cop and Mark Coleman twice so there goes kickboxing and wrestling. He beat that silver medal judo guy with ease. He beat all the giants in pride like bob sapp and that 7’ korean dude. Arona beat him but was robbed. Maybe give that guy another shot.

by hatteras on Dec 19, 2008 11:46 AM EST reply actions   0 recs

Rickson Gracie was the Babe Ruth of MMA since he was such a legend in his time and SO much better than everyone else, but if he were to fight today he would be average at best (which can be said of Ruth).

Fedor is closer to a Alex Rodriguez except without all the gay overtones.

lmao….ya, Fedor doesn’t wear red lipstick

by introvert on Dec 19, 2008 1:16 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Arona was his biggest test to date, that’s for sure. I like Arona, I think he’s a stud…but, he’s been away from the game for a while and Fedor would walk through him right now.

Hope Ricardo comes back strong though…when he comes back.

by introvert on Dec 19, 2008 12:55 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

True, some could even make a valid argument that Arona won that decision. But there were no strikes allowed to the face while on the ground. Fedor’s got vicious GnP so I wonder how this match would have ended under PRIDE rules.

by Machine on Dec 20, 2008 4:04 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I agree…I actually think Arona took it, but like you say (no GnP)…so even if Arona won, to me it would be no different than Fedor losing that Sambo match (not real MMA anyway). He’d still be the man in my opinion…but that’s all moot anyway.

by introvert on Dec 20, 2008 12:12 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Yeah, he did beat a BJJ BB, a kick boxer and a wrestler, now he should up the challenge and maybe fight someone well rounded. Being good at one disipline won’t get you far in the UFC. A fighter who is good in all areas has less weaknesses to attack than a one trick pony such as CC.

by Gord on Dec 29, 2008 3:13 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

i no fedor is going to win hes just inhuman but i want arlovski to break through the odds and beat him. hes got some pretty sick stand up so well see. ahh fuck it, aslong as fedor doesnt beat him in less than 5 mins im happy.

I feel the biggest challenge for Fedor is Josh Barnett right now. He has been for the last 2 years but they have never fought unfortunately. Maybe it will be on the next Affliction card if they manage to stay in the fight business financially.

Where ever Tito Ortiz ends up that promotion will end up the biggest competition to the UFC and it will make Dana White sick and I say so fuckin what. Eat SHIT Dana. You’ve disrespected Tito,Pat Miletich,Tim Sylvia, and the Shamrocks long enough it’s about time they stick it in your face!
