But Silva couldn’t even beat an aging Liddell. Don’t get me wrong, Silva is one of my favorite fighters, but if Page is on his game mentally and physically, I think he will win this. But has he recovered from all the crap that went down after the loss to Forrest? That’s the big question.
by Scootah on Dec 18, 2008 8:44 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
That will be answered next week my friend…
by Syd[a.k.a. "The Negation"] on Dec 18, 2008 9:00 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Silva lost to Chuck Lidell because he was paid to throw the fight just as Randy Couture was paid to lose to Lidell. Lidell has a very poor skill set, is old, and he just plain sucks. Silva was new and he got paid to lose and that’s just about it. People will say oh no but be realistic because people in boxing get paid to take a dive so what makes you think the golden boy of the UFC wouldn’t? WANDERLEI WILL DESTROY RAMPAGE BY KO!!!

So Keith Jardine, Rampage and Rashad refused to take the money? Because Chuck vs Forrest would have been a blockbuster fight that made tons of money…
by RyanHobbs on Dec 19, 2008 3:56 AM EST up reply actions 0 recs
You must be mistaking the UFC with WWE. Did you see the pounding that Silva was getting in that match. I am sure he could have thrown that fight without taking such a beating. If you like conspiracies, stick to the X files Mulder.

I haven’t been this amped about a fight in a long time. I am so excited. Two of my all time favorite fighters getting in there to do some damage. I love Rampage… but I’m picking Wanderlei all the way. He’s the man.

I’m with you on this one. A lot of maniacs here are writing Rampage off. But if he fights with a clear head, he should methodically deconstruct wanderlei.

Surprised they didnt headline the card in Ireland with this fight, it deserves the hype.
by DirtyML on Dec 18, 2008 6:17 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
Mate, I agree. Although I am also surpised the UFC are not promoting the Ireland Card alongside this one. I just went and checked that card again, its f**king massive:
Franklin, Henderson, Shogun, Coleman, Belcher, Kang, Horn, Davis, Lytle, Kampmann – if you measure each against one another this stacks up beautifully.

This is really going to be one of the best fights of the year. I hope it doesn’t go just one round. Hopefully the beat the sh*t out of eachother and then Wandy gets the KO in the 2nd or 3rd. And on a side note Rampage has to have those first two brutal knockouts in the back of his head. How confident can he really be?
by Bluepit360 on Dec 18, 2008 6:29 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
“How confident can he be”.
Very confident. He was clearly winning at one point in each of their 2 fights.
I like Wand as much as the next fan but there’s one key factor which swung the bouts heavily in Wands favor in each of their previous fights that will not be a factor on the 27th…….Kicks and stomps to the head of a downed opponent.
Things even up quite quickly with UFC rules. If the Ramapage that showed up to fight Chuck and Henderson makes an appearance then he wins this for sure.
by Machine on Dec 18, 2008 6:50 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Good point, but he still can use knees and those were a big factor. He is going to have to stay out of the clinch or at least how to defend it.

not necessarily, Wandy has brutal ko power in his punches and could very well just punch Rampage out.
by Bill Maher on Dec 18, 2008 7:30 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
it was the knees that played the factor not stomps or kicks to a downed fighter
by roys on Dec 18, 2008 8:18 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
“Good point, but he still can use knees and those were a big factor. He is going to have to stay out of the clinch or at least how to defend it.”
Point taken but if you watch his fight with Griffin where he gets him in a headlock and throws consecutive knees, you’ll see Rampage defended them all. Proof that he’s finally learned from his past mistakes. I wont dare say Griffin is even half the Thai guy that Wand is but the height advantage he holds does make it easier to throw and connect with knees. So if Page can defend those I’m sure he’ll fend off most of Wands as well.
“not necessarily, Wandy has brutal ko power in his punches and could very well just punch Rampage out.”
Page has one of the BEST chins in the sport. He took several solid punches from Wand in both of their past fights and was able to shake them off. Even though those losses to Wand were brutal, go back and count how many punches, soccer kicks and knee’s he took before going to sleep. It’s inhuman.
“it was the knees that played the factor not stomps or kicks to a downed fighter”
You’re right, the knee’s were ultimately his undoing. However, you cant ignore the role the soccer kicks played either. I liken it to a game of Street Fighter. You know how certain attacks take more away from your characters life bar? A soccer kick to the head of a downed opponent is far more concussive than a punch or a knee. Remove those from the equation and Page would have stood a better chance at recovering and effectively protecting himself. I know I’m doing a lot of speculating here but It’s just how I see it. I’m a Wand fan and slightly more of a Page fan. It wouldnt hurt to see Wand win and get a crack at the title but I’m more in favor of seeing Rampage avenge his prior losses.
"clearly winning at some point"
I was clearly gonna bang beyonce when I met her…that was until her body guards jumped me. see the comparison!?"
Funny post. I dont have a return jab for ya because it looks like DBG already took care of my light work (j/k).
I pointed that out because so many people only saw the Wand highlights of the KO and not the entire fights. It’s like reading a book from the middle to the end, you obviously wont know the whole story and your point of view will be skewed. Pretty much it proves he has the tools to win as long as he shows up prepared and maintains his composure.
by Machine on Dec 19, 2008 9:53 AM EST up reply actions 0 recs
good post. i think roadrage has more of a chane to win this time… but i still hope wand “jardines” him.

Hey guys, lets be honest here, wand will beat rampage, evans will beat griffth, the next solid 205 champ will be between lyoto vs thaigo. “sorry guys mt spelling is shit no spell check”
by Toddy on Dec 18, 2008 7:11 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
Hey guys, lets be honest here, anything can happen in MMA and its not all that far fetched to think that Rampage can beat Wanderlei Silva. The same goes for Forrest against Rashad. That’s the beauty of the sport. You can never know for sure who will win. That is especially true in the light heavyweight. I hope Rampage wins this fight. Then there will be potential for a 4th fight between these two guys who will never quit hating eachother.

I think Rampage has grown up a lot since his pride days. He wasn’t training for real then. Now he is and i think he is going to give wanderley hell
by staples on Dec 18, 2008 7:40 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
He WAS training for real. Now he is with Wolfslair. We don’t know how well his training is there nor do we know if he is mentally stabilized after that delerium incident. I hope that he comes out healthy. He is up against a violent man with possibly a better work ethic than Forrest Griffin. Wanderlie Silva is a force to be reconned with.
by RyanHobbs on Dec 19, 2008 4:03 AM EST up reply actions 0 recs
hahahah Rampage just pissed off Wanderlei…God he is fucked. Wandy is like " I am going to give my best show, I am going to beat him this time, again…" He is just going to systematically break down rampage…again. I really hope Silva gets a title shot, i love that guy. The only person I see beating him is chuck again. MMA is all about styles matching up and nobody in all of MMA is a good matchup to Wanderlei, other than a striker the caliber of chuck liddell. So many good things happening in the 205 division, I really expected Vinny to beat Bader, but he will surely be back and I can see him fine tuning his standup and being a badass…so we’ll see.
by t0pd0g on Dec 18, 2008 7:47 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
Solid wrestling was Wand’s kryptonite. I’m sure it’s improved since he arrived at Xtreme Couture but by how much?
I say Wand wins a rematch with Liddell. He wasnt his usual overly aggressive self when they fought. And now he knows he can take a Liddell punch.
Remember, I’m a Wand fan too but I’ve gotta say that a technically sound striker with quick enough hands will trump his brawling style.
by Machine on Dec 19, 2008 10:00 AM EST up reply actions 0 recs
I really like and enjoy both fighters, so its hard for me to pick a winner in this match up. I know Wand is a cardio machine and trains his ass off. So im not worried about him at all. Page on the other hand with his last lost and what he has been through, and going to a new camp ( wolfslair ). Plus the previous 2 loss’es to Wand, I believe that all the pressure is on Page to get this win. Wand knows he has beaten Page twice, so i hope he isnt looking past him, which im sure he isnt. Hopefully the new camp brings out the best in Page. So my prediction is a ground n pound tko for Page. He take’s this one

it will be interesting to see what kind of footwork Rampage comes out with. if wandy comes out like he did against Jardine it may not matter.

whoever thinks rampage is gonna win is high on drugs. all of u are trippin. wand is knockin rampage out in the 3rd.
by yo quiero taco bell on Dec 18, 2008 8:02 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
I don’t take drugs and I think that Rampage CAN win this fight. I have a bad feeling about this fight though. I don’t want to see either fighter lose and I think that Rampage is dealing with WAY too much to be successful. I just believe that he could prove me wrong. I do agree with you on one thing though. I want some Taco Bell as well.
by RyanHobbs on Dec 19, 2008 4:05 AM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Could go two ways – Wandy beats Rampage like he’s Jardine or Wandy beats Rampage like how Chuck beat Wandy. The second way would be considered fight of the year.
by DF on Dec 18, 2008 8:11 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
how would wandy do that chuck beat up wandy with reach and being allusive, going for a takedown too. wandy can only go guns blazing against rampage because his reach is too short. so ill agree he could beat rampage the first way but beating rampage the way chuck beat wandy is kinda far fetched
by Jared on Dec 18, 2008 8:15 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Rampage all the way. Wanderlei is tough, but I think Page is
gonna knock him the f out. He’s a completely different
fighter than he was five years ago. And let’s not forget, he
could very well still be champion right now. The fight with
Forest could have gone either way.
Regardless of who wins, this should be the best fight of the night – CAN’T WAIT BABY!!!!!!

Wandy can’t fight Rampage the same way he fought Chuck, where he comes straight in and just throws bombs. It’s too easy to adjust to, which is why Chuck beat him.
I can’t wait for this, the first two fights were extremely competitive, is spite of how devastating the finishes were. Rampage is my favorite fighter. But I can’t bring myself to root against Wand. Whoever wins I’m cool with it.

Wanderlei by fatality. This time a knee will put Rampage’s head into the crowd. Win or lose Wandy leaves it all in the ring and comes to fight no matter what. Everyone in MMA should look at his attitude and ask themselves “Why don’t I fight balls to the wall like that?”
