Kiril loses his mouthpiece and we get a momentary stop. Back underway and the Russian has already eaten another three or four stiff jabs. Kiril looks very tired and ready for this fight to be over, but Buentello stays on him. Again Kiril loses his mouthpiece, and the crowd voices their disapproval with some boos. really excited for this but I REALLY hope they’ve improved their production through their partnership with Golden Boy

by McArthur on Dec 18, 2008 9:49 AM EST reply actions   0 recs

How much do you think Golden Boy is helping? They are putting on a huge boxing match, on HBO, on the same night, basically in the same city. My guess is not much.

by BNF on Dec 18, 2008 10:29 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

probably not hands on but they apparently have something invested in Affliction…it won’t take much to improve the production from their 1st card

by McArthur on Dec 18, 2008 10:43 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I think they have a very long way to go as far as production is concerned. That was my main problem with the first show, it was almost unwatchable. The fights were okay and this is a good card, but many people will not make the same mistake twice. Free on the net or free in person.

BNF, Any word on who will be commentating (other than Tito)??
My biggest issue was the lighting. It was dark and gloomy and was honestly difficult to watch knowing the UFC had a card for free on Spike….thank god for PVR

by McArthur on Dec 18, 2008 10:58 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

It was dark, Big John ehhh, Buffer was bad, Megadeath, ect… I love my DVR like it was my son.

Cut and Paste:

This time, however, Tito will work along side play-by-play announcer Sean Wheelock and color commentator Jimmy Smith — the duo that calls the action for the M-1 Global events that air weekly on HDNet.

F U, F Comcast, F HDNet & F everyone else who has hdnet.

Did I say F Comcast for not having hdnet

by Anger Jack on Dec 18, 2008 11:20 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

From what I can take away from the many interviews, I think Golden Boy is actually paying the salaries of the fighters, getting exposure/maybe a small cut in return. Affliction and Golden Boy are still tightening up the arrangement.

production was horrible but the thing that annoyed me the most was everybody was on Fedor’s jock.

by Robert on Dec 18, 2008 11:15 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Yeah hard to believe that people would be praising the #1 fighter in mixed martial arts.

by tyler on Dec 18, 2008 11:19 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Well, they shouldn’t root for any specific fighter but come on it was so fucking obvious.

by john on Jan 24, 2009 6:22 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

guys are messing with the times big time John! I thought 7 (like usual) which would be 10 for you, but now I don’t know!

by kevin on Jan 24, 2009 6:23 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Is the whole undercard on Hdnet? If so then I gueuss the hdnet part starts at 7 and the ppv starts at 9? or is it 10? wtf is going on?

by john on Jan 24, 2009 6:55 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

ppv is an hour earlier than UFC events…I think

first fight wasn’t bad…kickboxing match, but good KO
I’m going to start a “thread” at the bottom and add my thoughts for every fight!

by kevin on Jan 24, 2009 7:21 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

While the fight line-up has its strong and weak points, it’s about as good a card they could put together at this point.

It remains to be seen if they have retained the high-school AV club to produce the event. There’s no need to re-hash all of that, but boys, let’s forget about the 15-minute Spanish interlude this time alright?

BTW, please do not bring back Michael Buffer. He was terrible… probably the worst aspect of the last show!

other than Megadeth

by McArthur on Dec 18, 2008 9:53 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

FUCK OFF Megadeth are the Best band ever!! unless your on about how they should have been at that event.. thats true
they shouldn’t be playing at an MMA event, but if your saying Megadeth are shit then you need to put down the britney spears Cd and start listening to real music

by Choke Hazard on Dec 18, 2008 10:10 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

fo real… go listen to your nsync and backstreet boys and leave the real music to the big dogs

by brendan on Dec 18, 2008 10:45 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I heard Zeppelin once – it sucked

by Anger Jack on Dec 18, 2008 11:18 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Ya, Zeppelin sucks… That is why every album they produced went gold.

by Grembone on Dec 18, 2008 11:58 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I personally liked Megadeth. That was a great intermission. “HOLY WARS…!!!”

This is a great card. I can’t wait.

They try to put to much shit together for one night. A rock concert, Boxing, what next the circus. Lets stick to fighting, after all it is MMA.

Save the money you pay Megadeath and by some better cameras.

by Gord on Jan 24, 2009 7:27 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

whaaat? michael buffer is THE MAN when it comes to announcing fights

by brendan on Dec 18, 2008 9:54 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I guess you must have missed the first Affliction card.

Michael Buffer looked lost, confused, disinterested and bored out of his mind. Maybe they paid him with an IOU?

If a ring announcer’s job is to pump up the crowd and be the spokesman/showman for the fighters, he failed MISERABLY. They probably could have gotten one of the high school kids from the back to do a better job.

by Graham on Dec 18, 2008 9:59 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

agreed his brother rocks because he actually loves MMA…..you can see him cage-side at the fights pointing and making remarks about all the fights….totally into it

by Robert on Dec 18, 2008 11:18 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

The ring announcer’s job is to “pump up the crowd”. I thought that’s what all the beer they pour their throats was for.

that main event is honestly much bigger than brock vs randy…

by shamo84 on Dec 18, 2008 10:30 AM EST reply actions   0 recs

So what… Then they should have put this fight together in November and they may have got more PPV buys, right. Instead they put it during the same month as 2 UFC PPV’s and one of those being UFC 94, very smart.

by BNF on Dec 18, 2008 10:38 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

jeez… BNF is the UFC police, dont say anything about the UFC or hell jump all over your nuts immediately

by brendan on Dec 18, 2008 10:46 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

he’s got a good point though…Affliction is poorly managed despite all the high power execs fronting the $$$…ie. Trump

by McArthur on Dec 18, 2008 10:59 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

what does that have to do with this card being way better than ufc 91?

by brendan on Dec 18, 2008 11:02 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

brenda, do you ever do anything here except for bash me or write 1 sentence nonsense post? Lets look at the original comment. Bigger than Brock/Randy? How? PPV buys, Wamma Belt? Or is just because Fedor is attached to it. They put all thier eggs in 1 basket and that will be their downfall. You saw what happened to the last card when he got hurt. These geniuses at Affliction put a PPV squeezed in between 2 UFC PPV’s, one being the superfight of all time, in a bad economy, 3 weeks after everybody spent a bunch of money they don’t have on Xmas.

by BNF on Dec 18, 2008 11:20 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

This event was scheduled before UFC 93 and yes Fedor/Arlovski is a better fight than Randy/Brock despite the fact it’s not in the UFC. As hard as that may be for some people to swallow it’s true.

by tyler on Dec 18, 2008 11:26 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Holy crap BNF…..it’s bigger, because Fedor is the #1 HW in the world!!!!!

I have a feeling if Fedor/Arlovski was a UFC fight, you’d be saying it’s bigger…so what gives?

by introvert on Dec 18, 2008 11:29 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

brenda? lol.. I meant that it is bigger because of the importance of the fight, fedor is #1 in the world and arlovski is probably #3 that said I love the UFC.. and I hope affliction goes down..

by shamo84 on Dec 18, 2008 11:30 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

The question was not better, it was bigger. Reading comrehension? How is it bigger?

by BNF on Dec 18, 2008 11:34 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

comprehension

by BNF on Dec 18, 2008 11:35 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

It could possibly be a better fight, but it will absolutly not be a bigger fight. It won’t even come close to the number of PPV buys and the Wamma belt, please…

by BNF on Dec 18, 2008 12:05 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

It’s “bigger” because of the importance…because the #1 guy may or may not be the #1 guy after the fight.

Pretty simple.

by introvert on Dec 18, 2008 12:09 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

The only one talking about PPV buys and it’s importance in relation with “bigger” is you.

I couldn’t care less about PPV buys…UFC will always have better PPV buys.

The #1 HW in the world fighting a legit top 10 fighter is “bigger” than a WWE start fighting an old man…..pretty simple.

by introvert on Dec 18, 2008 12:13 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

You should care about PPV buys if you want Affliction to continue to put on shows. Are you kidding? But, your probably happy watching Fedor fight a bunch of cans in Japan.

Mania sould put my response up in second…

by BNF on Dec 18, 2008 12:22 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Here’s your response…

“My name is BNF, and I only like the UFC. I hate all other MMA but the UFC. Brock Lesnar is way “bigger” than Fedor, because he is now in the UFC. Randy Couture is way “better” than Fedor, because he is a UFC fighter. Dana White is awesome, because he is pres of the UFC. Rogan and Goldie are the best, because they are announcers for the UFC. Bruce Buffer is the best because he works for the UFC. I love the UFC. I love the UFC."

There, now nobody has to read your posts anymore.

If AA beats Fedor he will be the #1 HW in the world? Debatable…

by BNF on Dec 18, 2008 12:35 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

You should care about PPV buys if you want Affliction to succeed… WTF are you talking about? Fedor back to fighting cans in Japan is okay with you I guess.

WTF Mania!

by BNF on Dec 18, 2008 12:38 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I never said that AA would be the #1 guy…depends on how he beats him I guess.

I think it would be safe to say the Fedor would be knocked down a spot or two on the list though.

That response was neither funny nor clever. You could have actually changed your name to BNF and then it would have been funny.

I love the UFC, your right, it is the best org.. I also like XC, Strikeforce, Dream, ect… Affliction on TV sucks and this will be their last show, if it even happens, so whatever… I complain when there is something to complain about. I don’t bash Atencio constantly or the fighters. I am actually considering going to the Affliction event because they will be handing out free tickets. The one thing I don’t do is try and be controversial for the sake of being contoversial. I have never heard you say a bad word about any other org besides the UFC. I guess it works both ways. I am just rarely dissapointed by the UFC.

If Arlovski beats Fedor he is the #1 heavyweight in the world. Who the hell else would it be maybe Josh Barnett but if anyone is thinking it’s Brock Lesnar their out of their mind.

Sorry forgot to tell what MMA bouts there is on that card, the card is Fields Dynamite 2008 that will take place in Japan at NYE.
MMA bouts are:
Mirko vs. Hong Man Choi
Hideo Tokoro vs. Daisuke Nakamura
Semmy Schilt vs. Mighty Mo
Shinya Aoki vs. Eddie Alvarez
Jerome Le Banner vs. Mark Hunt
Sakuraba vs. Kiyoshi Tamura
Joachim Hansen vs. JZ Calvan

So your saying that a heavy weight who lost to a bloated light heavy weight, one which can’t even take a crunch before weigh-ins or he might not make the minimum in light-heavy, isn’t weak…looks like you don’t know what you’re talking about. There is also another difference…Chuck lost to him in his 3rd fight, while Yvel lost to him in his 36th fight…Big difference you knob.

Have to admit it gang, this is a pretty darn good card. If Arlovski doesn’t get swarmed in the first minute or two a la Sylvia, it may be a great fight.

Josh Barnett against that animal Yvel, a great fight too.

Belfort coming back too. Only one problem, why do I have to listen to Tito run his mouth?

Get Bas in there or someone not looking for a self promo like the huntington beach blonde. When you going to fight again Tito? hmmmmmmmmm?

by roy on Dec 18, 2008 5:24 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

if you are a true MMA fan, and not just a UFC fan, then you would have already watched Randy vs Brock and would be excited about tonights affliction show their card is actually way stronger than the last ufc ppv.

IT’s nice to have choices but as one who buys every mma ppv available to me its sorta silly since i already payd 50.0 bucks 2 months ago and now UFC is saying to their loyal fans to “suck it” too bad, we dont appreciate your buisness, that reeks of crap.

by GORANDY on Jan 24, 2009 2:24 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

I Hope every TRUE MMA FAN BUYS THIS and I LU THE UFC BUT White is being a jerk here…..read on
I just read through that nice pile of steaming cow dung that Dana White called an interview on sportsline and I have some interesting comments.
I can officially say that Dana is the most unprofessional CEO of a billion dollar+ company that I have ever seen.
The whole interview with CBS was totally unprofessional but that’s nothing new and seems to be Dana’s schtick. He’s so enamored with hearing himself cuss, that he can’t even lay off to do a national interview.
I would like to say that Dana is brutally honest, but that isn’t necessarily true. He just has emotional Tourettes. The man speaks the first thing that comes to his mind, regardless of the veracity involved. It seems his business decisions follow the same model.
Dana constantly bad mouths the competition and he seems to have it out for the IFL. First off, the IFL model is great and if they can survive the costs of starting up a league (and thats a big "if") then they will be providing great entertainment for years to come. Every non-mma fan that I have talked to lately has nothing but praise for the IFL. They might not know the league’s name but that is a marketing issue that can be overcome. Even my grandfather watches it and asks me about "those fighting dudes on TV" whenever he sees me.
Just because Dana comes from a boxing background and not a wrestling background, he thinks his "solo man against the world" model is the only valid system. Teams in combat sports and traditional individual sports have been around for longer than Dana has been alive. Wrestling, gymnastics, 400 meter / 1600 meter relay, and swimming are all examples of individual sports with team components to them. must I go on? Just because the IFL thought of a way to market the concept first, Dana has to bang on them.
Oh, and speaking of business choices, how about the biggest slice-n-dice job in the short history of MMA?
Q: I know it’s easy to second guess, but with Pride’s demise do you feel that in hindsight Zuffa made some miscalculations when it came to due diligence that led up to the acquisition?
DW: No. No, not at all. I knew I wanted that library bad. It was what I wanted. So no, we didn’t miscalculate anything except the whole deal was a nightmare. Getting that deal done was a nightmare. We didn’t miscalculate anything. We knew we wanted it and we got it.
Q: With it proving to be a nightmare, if you guys knew then what you know now, would you still go through with it?
DW: Yes.
Q: Because you felt with the library that it was worth it?
DW: To me it was. To me, personally, I wanted that library.
Since when does somebody pursue a HUGE problematic business acquisition because of a personal desire for a tape library? Dana is too shrewd a business man for such a response. For all his faults, he isn’t dumb. His cryptic answer smells of back pedaling. All the reliable sources out there at the time of the acquisition were stating that the UFC did no due diligence until AFTER there was a verbal agreement for the PRIDE purchase.
They probably knew that there were problems, just not how bad they were. With all his vaunted honesty, why can’t he just come right out and admit that he bought PRIDE to eliminate the competition, disallow others from resurrecting the giant, and had no intentions of actually running it as a separate entity.
Dana is for one thing and one thing only. Lining the Fertitta brothers pockets. In a capitalistic world, he has that right but don’t expect us to believe that your sole cause in life is to further MMA. The one beneficial thing that the Zuffa era of the UFC has been sanctioning in a lot of states. The only reason Dana has sought sanctioning in each state is so that he can run his PPV’s in any venue he wants across the country.
Where is health insurance for your fighters?
What "feeder" and grassroots organizations are you supporting with Zuffa money to further the MMA cause past the next PPV?
What alliances have you established with other organizations for the betterment of the sport?
What youth outreach programs have you supported in an effort to educate younger people about the benefits of MMA and martial arts in general?
What martial arts / combat sports ideal have you touted to the public as being a life-long commitment? (discipline, honor, comraderie, restraint, pliability, humility, self-assurance)
Instead he touts guys with personal issues, who break the rules, and espouse nothing from the discipline of martial arts, as being "nice guys" and "I’d let them back in spite of their flagrant violations of sportsmanship and honor…". He "gets" the thug element in the fight game and ignores the high road of discipline and honor. Real good message there Dana. Keep up the good work. You do us all proud in the MMA community.

Thanks Kevin,

I cant wait for this fight, it will be the first time Ive watched Fedor outside of his highlight reel, I’d like Arlovski to win (purely because I know more about him) but from what Ive read that’s unlikely.

Still I hope the fight is competative (more than 36 seconds…lol)

I thought production at the first Affliction event was ok, Michael Buffer showed why he is the better of the Buffer brothers (I can’t stand Bruce Buffer’s lightning-fast turns when he announced a fighter). Their first event wasn’t splattered in advertising like the UFC’s event are (Harley Davidson prep-zone? Seriously?), which I didn’t mind at all. I didn’t like the announcers, specifically Glazer and Trigg, would have preferred Bas Rutten, Kenny Rice and John McCarthy (really anyone but the guy who did the K-1 WGP, he was beyond annoying). I’m not a fan of Megadeath, but I thought it was a good addition to the event and their performance got me amped for the main event, was good time to get drinks/snacks and discuss the upcoming fight to the background of some good music.

I’m not much of a Lindland fan but one 37 second KO loss to a top notch striker doesn’t prove a whole lot. If he’d been dominated for 3 rounds, I’d say he is overrated, but he got caught. If it happens again we can put the measuring stick to his reputation.

UFC is losing ground due to crappy fighters getting time when others deserve the spotlight & Dana White’s bad decisions like letting Lesnar have a title shot years before its time.

Besides… nobody in the UFC could handle Fedor, so the UFC is minor leagues for Heavies.

Why is everyone calling it a flying knee, it was like something a little kid would do jumping in a pool, weeeeeeeeee, how gay. AA should have been more patient and picked him apart with his more technical striking and left the fancy shit in the gym. You have to give Fedor credit though, he was the smarter fighter and he got the win.

by Ca$z on Jan 25, 2009 12:16 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

what timing? fedor threw a looping overhand right while andre was in the air. like fedor knew andrei was going to do that. he threw that punch with his head down and his eyes closed. this fight will always be a big “what if?” to me. if only andrei hadn’t went for such a dumb move. he was definetly winning and had fedor backing up. still i gotta give props to fedor, he’s still the best. i would much rather see a rematch of these 2 than fedor/barnett.

by b.w. on Jan 25, 2009 1:10 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I don’t believe in lucky punches, but lets be honest here. AA was handing it to Fedor until he did that gay flying spinning bum drop. What the hell was he thinking? That was a gift for Fedor, AA does a gay little jump with his arms at his side and turns his head sideways and trys to strike Fedor with his ass. It looked like AA realized that a flying knee wasn’t such a good idea and didn’t commit, but what he did was just plain stupid. It was like he just froze in mid air and didn’t bring his hands up or anything. Got to give it to Fedor, he stayed calm and got the KO over a top striker. That being said, I’m not convinced Fedor would win if they fought again. I never seen anyone back fedor up like that. I’m just pissed it ended so soon, it could have been a war.

UFC production is much better. The announcers were shit. Tito is embarassing. Mispronouncing names, making words up, jumbled speech, lol. And holy shit, what about Chuck Zito and the dude with the busdriver voice haha.

by rockwell on Jan 24, 2009 11:54 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

I completely agree. There’s a reason why the UFC is the dominant organization. Many people like to bash them, because it’s “cool” to hate the big name.

Joe Rogan is the best commentator. He’s a bjj brown belt, so he knows whats goin on, and he’s a true fan. The dude with the scratchy voice is annoying, and is obviously new to the game. I was begging for Mike Goldberg during this show.

by rhys on Jan 24, 2009 11:57 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

To me this fight proved that Fedor can be beaten. I was very very surprised to see Arlovski controlling the tempo and Fedor with his strikes, he just got over confident, dropped those hands all the way down to the ground when he went for that flying knee, and Fedor being the champ he is, just needs one mistake to make you pay.

I almost feel sorry for Arlovski, but then I get upset that he still hasn’t learned to keep his hands up and he gets what he deserves, should have stuck to the gameplan and stayed calm and controlled.

by Mad A on Jan 24, 2009 11:59 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

I’m actually a little disappointed…only because I wanted to see a little ground and pound from “theodore”, and a longer fight. Also, this fight is going to have a bunch of Fedor haters saying it was a fluke. It was no fluke. Arlovski hit Fedor with some hard shots and Fedor was unfazed, as always. It only takes one sometimes, and thats the kind of power this small HW has in his hands. I hate to say I told you so…but I will. I told you so. Fedor is the best HW on this planet.

I never heard you say AA would hand it to Fedor for the first 3 minutes and then do something stupid and jump into Fedors hand with his chin and his hand at his side. Yeah Fedor beat him, but it sure wasn’t the way anyone said it was going to be. All I heard was Fedor will dominate AA with his superior striking. I seen a look on Fedor’s face that I never seen before, when AA cracked him twice, had him backing up and landed that nice cut kick. Apparently he was even shocked he was beating Fedor, because he got carried away and forgot who he was fighting and got stupid.

by Gord on Jan 25, 2009 1:57 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I didn’t try to predict the fight, just the outcome. You saw a “new” look o Fedor’s face? Randleman did more damage to Fedor with his slam than AA did with those punches, and he was unfazed. First round KO is dominant in my book, even though AA was winning on the cards before that.

The punch was insane. Arlovski was overconfident and should have trusted his hands more so than his knees. Other than the perfectly placed punch, Arlovski held his own and looked quite well. I don’t think he’ll be champ if he keeps leaving his hands down, but you never know. Fedor looked human today and seemed confused with Arlovski’s speed and crisp boxing. Sweet Jeebus!

UFC is in deep shiat if Affliction continues this.

Can you believe that Fedor found an opportunity and then capitalized?

That was the most amazing TKO I’ve ever seen!

Arlovski is 6’ 4" right? Fedor dropped him like he had a brick in his hand.

I know it was short but that was about as dramatic a TKO I’ve ever seen.

I dont agree. UFC puts on a way better show. Affliction is alot better than EliteXC, but they have a long way to go to match the UFC.

The UFC is able to sustain a fanbase because they are organized. There’s a reason why they sign their fighters to exclusive contracts. Fans can follow the names and watch the rivalries within divisions.

Afflicion needs to get a few good fighters (no kimbos and no ufc has-been). Sign disgruntled UFC talent like Fitch, Huerta, Couture. Im sure there are alot more. They also need to sign free agents like Shinya Aoki, Eddie Alvarez, Joachim Hansen, JZ Calvacante, Nick Diaz, Cro Cop, Mayhem Miller, Jacare, Jake Shields, Werdum, etc. They definately have the money. If you build the talent, the ppv’s will come.

As for commentating, get rid of tito. Bas Rutten and Mauro Ranallo the best MMA commentators not named Rogan.

MMA fights are best in the octagon (cage), because it prevents stoppages because of fighters getting pushed out. Im not sure if the UFC owns those rights. The ring isnt terrible for mma, just not as good as a cage.

Those are a few things i think will help Affliction compete with the UFC.

Fedor will lose eventually, Randy Couture could beat Fedor!

by Bennie on Jan 25, 2009 12:16 AM EST reply actions   0 recs

i dont know i wanna think so but andrei had the perfect style to beat fedor, all he needed was a dan henderson chin and he would be the #1 heavyweight right now

DAMN! I HATE TO ADMIT IT BUT FEDOR IS GOD!!!

A retarded orangutan would be a better commentator than Tito. It’s not pronounced “Fe-ah-dore” douchebag! Enjoyable card overall, except for that fight with all the crotch shots (though they didn’t look that bad, Lauzon was being a pussy). Babalu looked good…I think he’s very underrated and one of the top 5 at 205.

Emelianenko’s name is not pronounced the way the rest of English-speaking MMA commentators say it either… It’s not “Fehdor” or "Fey-door – if anything, it begins with a sound that is more like the “fio” in “Fiona”.

I bet most people yelling about it are more off on the way it’s pronounced than Tito the shmuck.

Фëдор

Ф = f
ë = no English equivalent, sort of a “io” or “yo” sound.
д = d
о = o
p = r

Some great fights. Arlovski went down like a sack of potatoes. Barnett looked sharp with his striking and dominated the match when it got to the ground. Lindland went down HARD! Did Sokoudjou prove those wins vs Little Nog and Arona were flukes? Buentello and Sidelnikov was good, as was Matyushenko-Lil Nog. All in all a great event, much better than the last UFC, though the production was still not as good as UFC’s (Tito’s not that good, they need Bas!). Great KO’s, Belfort, Fedor and Hieron each vying for KO of the night.

Lets see Fedor actually fight tough competition for a few years rather than 1 good fight every 3 years.

I think Brock Lesnar would own Fedor.

Tito had some good insights but he is still a dick.

He should read more. That guy was making up his own words.

Zito and the other moron were totally useless.

is that the same Sokoudjou that was very recently on a UFC card? if so, how did he get onto an Affliction card?

Agreed, it’s because of Tito that I think it should be legal to abort a child up to the age of 40 (of the child).

UFC cut Sokoudjou for lackluster performances

by jk358 on Jan 25, 2009 12:30 AM EST reply actions   0 recs

I just thought of a fight for the ages!!

Someone should call up the genius engineer/robot designer that built Fedor. Then they should have him build another Fedor. Then Fedor 1 should fight Fedor 2. Then we could see whats stronger. Fedor’s punch, or Fedor’s chin. We could also see if Fedor could submit himself!

by --utaptout--..."The Prodigy's" 4th Biggest Hugger on Jan 25, 2009 12:32 AM EST reply actions   0 recs

lol

maybe it will just take a computer programmer to write a virus to infect Fedor in the fight

by kibbled_bits on Jan 25, 2009 12:46 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

thanks jk358… dude looked huge & seemed to have potential, but he didn’t really produce. I just didn’t know they cut him already.

nice to see some old names like Sobral, Belfort, and Buentello still fighting & winning… and good to see Dan Lauzon (Joe’s little bro) getting some work – he’s a good fighter who deserves to be somewhere good. And it’s cool to see Minotaro’s bro get some action too.

by Diesel on Jan 25, 2009 12:37 AM EST reply actions   0 recs

utaptout – if you’ve seen that fox sports channel special on Fedor (the baddest man on the planet) and/or that training seminar Fedor did awhile back you would see what separates him from the rest of MMA fighters… and why it would probably take a Fedor clone to beat him anytime soon. His training methods & his Judo (Russian flavor, but still Judo) instead of Jiu-shitsu man that Fedor is a long time from being beaten.

what’s up with the listed Jay Hieron vs. Jason High fight? was it a “just in case we need to fill time” fight or is it going to happen? not that I know either fighter or care who wins, I’m just curious…

Heiron fought High after the Fedor fight. Good fight, they didn’t show it on PPV?

by Chillmike on Jan 25, 2009 1:44 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I didn’t watch after the Fedor fight… but I noticed that this page hasn’t posted anything about the fight in the results section up top. And there’s only about 6 fights with detailed blow by blow commentary – so I was wondering. Thanks for the info on this fight… who won & how if you know?

by Diesel on Jan 25, 2009 2:50 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Heiron won in viscous knockout style. Not as bad as Lindland but worse than Arlovski. Good fight, a shame more than half the crowd had left by then.

by Chillmike on Jan 25, 2009 3:18 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

That fight was actually part of the card aired on HDNet… thanks for the info though. A buddy of mine DVR’d that broadcast & I got to see it today.

FUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I really wanted fedor to lose but felt over 90% that would wins, shit, it pissed me off, fat boy rules again, so much for the boxing expert.

Fedor was losing the fight to begin with. Arlovski was doing great. Just should not have thrown that flying knee.

“woulda, shoulda, coulda” doesn count for too much.

by chefdaddy on Jan 25, 2009 6:19 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

For those of you (UFC Fanboi’s) who say Fedor never fights a decent opponent – you’re talking shit.

Look at the history -

Renato Sobral (when he was on a good run)
Semmy Schilt (huge, powerful fighter)
Heath Herring (good solid fighter)
Antionio Rodrigo Nogueira x 2 (first was at his peak after he just beat Henderson)
Mark Coleman
Kevin Randleman (after taking the most awesome slam ever!)
Mirko Cro Cop (while he was at his peak and on a 7 fight win streak)
Hong Man Choi (biggest MMA fighter there is)
Tim Sylvia
Andrei Arlovski

As well as many others – there’s plenty of quality there, most who’ve since gone to UFC to run away from him.

I like UFC as much as anyone but you have to give the guy his dues – his one defeat was a doctor stoppage after 17 seconds due to an unfortunate cut after a clash – he was absolutely fine. He is THE best heavyweight MMA fighter there is – regardless of what Dana “can’t sign him so I’ll bitch about him” White says.

by Jimrod on Jan 25, 2009 5:15 AM EST reply actions   0 recs

Now that he’s back to fighting top competition, he’s back to #1 HW for sure. Hong Man Choi does not help your case for Fedor at all though.

There aren’t too many fights at HW left for him. I’d like to see him move to the UFC, take out the HW champ, then move to LHW. There are lots of good fights for him there.

by Joe Smith on Jan 25, 2009 9:43 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Oh, and for those who say “Arlovski was winning”, Fedor’s been on the receiving end of some batterings in his time yet he always comes through – that’s the sign of a champion.

Who was winning is irrelevant – it’s who won that counts. As Rocky said “it’s not about how hard you hit, it’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward”. There are many big hitters out there, it’s heart and skill which makes a true champion.

I hope you remember this quote when BJ kicks GSP’s *ss!!!

by Gweedo on Jan 25, 2009 6:59 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Yeah, still undecided on who I fancy for that one… Will just sit back and enjoy I reckon :)

by Jimrod on Jan 25, 2009 7:05 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Almost evrybody I know is going with GSP b/c he is a natural 170lber. I want BJ to bring the belt back to the STATES!!!

I only made that last comment to you b/c that’s EXACTLY what BJ quoted on last week’s episode on PrimeTime. He quoted Rocky and said the exact same thing. The only difference is – he was directing his comment towards GSP!

ROCKY & BJ 4-LIFE!!!

by Gweedo on Jan 25, 2009 7:47 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I want GSP to win big time. Dana said if GSP wins he’ll fight Anderson Silva @ 185. I think that’s a fight we’d all like to see, so go GSP!

P.S. Dana said he wouldn’t let BJ move up that far if he beats GSP, so it’s not looking good for BJ vs. Silva if BJ wins.

right now i think freddie roach shaming on himself thinking “why i told those things before the fight” LOLS!

by mad_drummer on Jan 25, 2009 10:25 AM EST reply actions   0 recs

What is it with the overhand right against the cage/ring that these guys can’t see coming? That is the same way Rashad got Chuck, Rampage got Wanderlei and now Fedor got Andrei.
Andrei was dominating the fight, confusing Fedor to the point where he didn’t know how to counter. Freddie Roach was absolutely right, the boxing skills dominated Fedor and Arlovski went away from the game plan and paid the price.

by Sofa-King-Toasty on Jan 25, 2009 11:05 AM EST reply actions   0 recs

Fedor has been on the defense taking punishment in many fights. He has taken a beating in a lot of fights. What makes him a champion is his ability to keep cool and execute when he sees the opportunity.

Luck has nothing to do with it.

The fight could have gone longer and eventually Fedor would capitalized at some point. Even if AA stuck to the plan, he wold have lost still.

by DubNub on Jan 25, 2009 11:50 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I agree, at some point it would have gone to the ground and I can’t see Arlovski doing much to stop Fedor there.

Agreed that GSP VS Silva would be a top fight to earlier poster :D Certainly not many exciting fights for him out of the current 185 crop… Think possibly something with the winner of Machida/Thiago Silva at 205 could be lined up (I’m going for Machida in that one, like his style ;))

What were Josh Barnett and the other fighters drinking during their post fight interviews?

Looked like a protein mix that screwed onto the top of your standard water bottle?

Who makes it? And what a good idea!

You must mean “What were they shaking?”. I saw a lot of shaking, but nobody got close to drinking it. I think Buentello almost opened it.
