The same could be said about Rashad. Just about everyone counted him out when he went up against Chuck. Two true underdogs that pushed their way through the ranks in the most stacked division in the UFC.

Not a big fan of Rashad but I will say this a hundred times Rashad is the Roy Jones of MMA. He will knock someone’s head off and then bore u for the next 3 fights. I want both Forrest and Wandy to win but I think the both of them are getting major beat downs on the 27th.

by Robert on Dec 18, 2008 9:49 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Man that could be a suitable ending, just like what he did to Shogun. Griffin should put a “choking” end to Rashad’s showboating!

Yup. I called Forrest by Triangle over Rampage and went nuts when he almost did it! But I don’t think Rashad will escape.

It’s hard to know where Rashad’s Gitz is lately. Of course, I don’t know that Forrest is any good at taketowns. They may stand and that could go either way.

by Punch You in the Ovaries on Dec 17, 2008 9:00 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Rashad will get the takedown if he wants it but Forrest is really busy of his back and goes for a sh!tload of subs…. I hope Griffin has been working on his jab and tucking his chin….if not( And I don’t want to see it but…..)Rashad could put him out.

by Psyqo78®™ on Dec 17, 2008 9:15 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I agree with this 100%. Forrest will have to jab and keep his distance with a lot of leg kicks. Rashad or “shard”, cant keep them straight, has gassed in some fights but manages to have enough heart to come in and take down his opponent to avoid damage and score points. The way I see this unfolding is an early knock out by Rashad if he closes the gap or two turtles commingling if Rashad tries to smother.

by TapedUpPair on Dec 17, 2008 9:49 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

True. If Rashad goes for a takedown because he’s gassing that will spell a definite victory for Forrest IMO. Even if Rashd goes for a takedown with a legit attempt to GNP, I don’t think he can get a stoppage. I think Rashads chance is on his feet.

by Punch You in the Ovaries on Dec 17, 2008 10:45 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Many good points being made. But if Rashad can’t get a stoppage in the first three rounds I think he’s in trouble. Even if he can take Forrest down in the later rounds, Forrest won’t just let himself be held down. And he’s a huge LHW so Rashad will have a lot of difficulty controlling him. Recall in the fight with Bisping, when Rashad started getting tired he had a really hard time getting him down and controlling him. I see the same problem here except magnified by Forrest’s size and endless gas tank.

by GregC on Dec 18, 2008 1:08 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Rasheed will totally gas and Forrest will grind it out for the decision!

by Syd[a.k.a. "The Negation"] on Dec 18, 2008 5:21 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Even minus the gassing, if Rashad doesn’t finish, Forrest is likely to grind it out.

by Punch You in the Ovaries on Dec 18, 2008 8:42 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Forrest even said that he was bad with takedowns. Combine that with the fact that Rashad is a great wresstler and you have Forrest preparing to trade with Rashad. Forrest probably has better submissions so Rashad will probably want to trade with Forrest. With his clear knockout power and better speed, he should be able to do well against Forrest on the feet. However, Forrest stood toe to toe with Rampage so it wouldn’t surprise me if Forrest were to outdo Rashad in the standup exchange. Which could lead to the takedown on Rashads part and a potential triangle choke or GnP. Very interesting match up.

by tyler on Dec 18, 2008 3:34 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

As you know Rashad, Rashard, Rashart and Rachad train with Greg Jackson who is a good jitz player. It may not be where other guys in his camp are, but I’m sure at very least his jiu-jitsu defense is solid. Anyone can get caught though.

by fleet on Dec 18, 2008 5:25 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Forrest is up against tremendous odds here. He is up against an undefeated fighter that is quicker, has stronger hands, and a great wrestling base. Forrest has an advantage in submissions as far as we know. I would assume that Forrest has more heart than Rashad but you can’t say for sure. For one, I have never really seen Rashad lose or give up and Forrest could possibly succumb to the fame that comes with being the light heavyweight champion.

by RyanHobbs on Dec 17, 2008 9:04 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

i really doubt fame is getting to forrests head now that he’s champ. he’s more famous for his first fight with bonnar than he is for his questionable win over rampage. he will have size and reach on his side but rashad has delt with that many times before and nullified it with agility and takedowns. i dont really care who wins but i’ll be cheering forrest on cause my stupid friends favorite fighter is rashad for some reason.

by jonsey on Dec 17, 2008 9:21 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Good point. Forrest has been famous for some time now. But when you get to the top of your division, the only thing to really fight for is cementing your legacy or at least creating one to cement.

by RyanHobbs on Dec 17, 2008 9:28 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

the thing about forrest that everyone seems to like is the fact that he’s humble. he knows he doesn’t do anything really well except for work hard and he knows that if he were to stop training as hard as he does he would lose for sure. he doesn’t have the raw talent of the greats in the sport but he does have credible work ethic and thats gotten him this far.

by jonsey on Dec 17, 2008 11:13 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Exactly. That is why I hope he doesn’t lost that work ethic. The only thing on his side at that point would be his ability to withstand punishment and experience from being in with the best.

by RyanHobbs on Dec 17, 2008 11:45 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Ryan, you mentioned Forrest’s advantage in submissions, but you forgot (or neglected) his advantage in stamina. We’ve seen Rashad noticeably tired at the end of 3 rounds (i.e. Bisping), while Forrest has fought 5 hard rounds and looked good. I’m sure Rashad is training harder than ever, but I’m sure Forrest is as well and I think he’ll hold an advantage there. I don’t think his chances of winning are nearly as bleak as you make it seem.

by GregC on Dec 18, 2008 1:13 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I agree that his cardio is something that I had overlooked. Should the fight go into the later rounds, Forrest certainly has the advantage.

by RyanHobbs on Dec 18, 2008 1:42 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Im sorry, but the fact that Forrest has beat Shogun, and Rampage back to back is all I need to see. Forrest by UD 50-45. Rashad didnt impress against Tito, damn sure didnt against Bisping, and didnt look good at all in his fight with Chuck other than the highlight reel KO. Ill give it to him, he dropped chuck bad with a nice shot, but I still think its early to jump on his band wagon. I think he has the potential, to be great, I just dont think he is there yet

by LOKIE on Dec 18, 2008 10:42 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I dont think Rashad will be able to take Forrest down as much as people think. The only way you are going to beat Forrest is to knock him out. You will never submit him and most likely never win a decision. No way Rashad lands a bomb like he did on Chuck. Forrest should win this one in the third and Ill even go as far to say it will be by TKO.

by c-war on Dec 18, 2008 12:00 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Forrest has the advantage in size, reach, kicks and I believe cardio as well. For me the question in this fight is going to be how does he deal with the movement of rashad, he’s gonna be a lot more elusive than rampage was. I hope that he doesn’t get frustrated and can find the range for his jab and leg kicks, however this fight could go either way

by Jye on Dec 17, 2008 9:16 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

What is Forrest and Rashads reach? I don’t think it is listed on the website. Forrest probably does have the advantage in cardio and kicks. Good point.

by RyanHobbs on Dec 17, 2008 9:21 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Im not sure about there reach, but they list Rashad at 5’11 and Forrest at 6’3. I would imagine Forrest has atleast a two inch reach advantage. I know everyone is built different, so maybe not.

by LOKIE on Dec 18, 2008 10:47 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

he will use leg kicks to try to nullify the movement of rashad. at least thats what i would do but im a lover not a fighter.

I wonder how salmon and chuck feel after watching this highlight real over and over again :). No idea’s who’s going to win and I really don’t care, I have it 50/50 flip a coin.

by nathan on Dec 17, 2008 9:42 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Probably the same way forrest feels when they show him getting knocked out by jardine and he starts crying.

by LG on Dec 17, 2008 10:16 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

He got TKO’d not knocked out. And I like that he’s passionate and competitive enough that he cried after he lost. It was a huge setback for him and he’s human.

by GregC on Dec 18, 2008 1:16 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

It’ll be interesting to see if Rashad’s got the goods to go 5 rounds. We know that Forrest can show up prepared for 5, and even gassed, he stays busy. If “Rashard” hopes to win this fight, he’s gonna have to drop or sub Forrest decisively, don’t think he’ll have the tank to pull off a 5-round decision.

Never seen “Rashard” KO’d or subbed, so it’s difficult to form a gameplan against him; it could go great or blow up in your face. With a questionable ground game and submission defense, my guess is Forrest will take an early opportunity for a takedown if it presents itself and work to exhaust “Rashard” on the ground through Round 1. At the second bell, Forrest will most likely try to soften him up with some leg kicks and jabs, but I see him taking him down in the 2nd and getting his submission.

It’s that or a flash KO leading to ref stoppage and Evans FTW.

I’m actually looking forward to this fight because it’s so strange to try to call. Honestly, I’m pulling for Forrest, but would rather see Wandy tear Rashad apart for the title than Griffin.

by SkeletonKey on Dec 17, 2008 9:56 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Forrest has a better chin that people give him credit for…Rampage KO’d chuck and Jardine dropped Chuck…and Forrest, but he wasn’t out cold. I’m not saying Forrest has the best chin, but its not bad at all.

LISTEN TO ME!!! This is a money maker fight just like couture/lesnar was. I won tons of money on lesnar because the odds were so great. This fight will be the same. People think Rashad this and Rashad that. Rashad aint shit. Yeah he knocked out chuck but chuck was working him the whole match. The fans are what lost chuck that fight cause they started booing and he got off his gameplan to put on a show. Forrest on the other hand has a ton more reach and cardio then chuck. Hes gonna work his jab and leg kicks for 5 rounds. EASY MONEY. Unanimous decision. AND I dont care what forrest says about his takedown defense. His fight with Tito was good enough to show he can stuff Rashad. All im sayin is watch the Bisping/Rashad fight again and tell me that forrest wont kill rashad. Forrest isnt a knockout artist but mark my words he will outwork Rashad Evans FOR ALL 5 ROUNDS!!

i like Forrest alot but im going with Radish Evins for the “W”

Evans is a great wrestler but Forrest trains at Xtreme Couture where there are TREMENDOUS wrestlers, not to mention Page aint too shabbby of a wreslter himself! BUT, in the end i see the two standing and trading, Forrest will get hit either with a BIG bomb or a quick short flurry, followd by a takedown and GnP till the stoppage!

Evans

Seems like many of you are forgetting that Rashad is the Decision King. The man knows how to win a fight even if he cant manage to finish his opponent.

It wont be easy but Rashad will take this fight. Griffin will use his height advantage to establish the jab and launch frequent knee’s and head kicks. As long as Evans can avoid those things it’s his fight to win.
