Ken Shamrock heading for 'Massacre' on February 13

Guess who's back, back again. Shammy's back, tell a can.
Ken Shamrock will return to mixed martial arts competition on February 13 as part of the 'Valentine's Eve Massacre' event in Fresno, California co-promoted between Wargods and Ken Shamrock Productions, according to MMAWeekly.
No opponent has been named but expected to appear on the card are Wargods' heavyweight champion Lavar "Big" Johnson, Buddy Roberts, Mike Moreno, Tonya Evinger, Jennifer Tate and Isaac De Jesus.
Also appearing is the world's most dangerous offspring, Ryan Shamrock (1-1).
Ken (26-13-2) is a mixed martial arts pioneer who has not won a professional fight in more than four years. In fact, he has lost eight of his last 10 fights dating back to 2001 and he’s on a five-fight losing skid.
A UFC Hall of Fame inductee, Ken dropped his first and only bout under the ProElite banner, losing to Robert "Buzz" Berry via knockout at Cage Rage 25: "Bring it On" earlier this year.
It was supposed to be a warm-up for the "World’s Most Dangerous Man" to groom him for a big money match down the road against either Kevin "Kimbo Slice" Ferguson or Ken's younger brother, Frank.
He didn’t deliver … and he rarely does these days.
Shammy was eventually matched up against Kimbo at EliteXC's "Saturday Night Fights" on October 4 on CBS, but was forced to withdraw -- literally hours before showtime -- after an errant headbutt in sparring opened up a severe laceration above his eye.
UFC castaway and undercard fighter Seth Petruzelli took his place and the rest (as they say) is history.
Ken Shamrock apparently, is not.

Another less than mediocre show to not watch

If he is fighting Lavar Johnson it might be worth it. He will finally be forced to retire after that fight. Glad Johnson is back and recovered from the knee injury.

Well now that the commission is being restructured, they might not let him fight coz Lavar would definitely kill him.

Then you’re not a fan of the sport. That’s like someone saying they’re a baseball fan and they only watch the World Series.
by tyler on Dec 17, 2008 1:43 PM EST up reply actions
Ok, then you go to Fresno and watch it. Your coment is as laughable as a Shamrock fight.

No it really isn’t,but you’re arrogance will indeed get you in a lot of trouble one day.

Don’t you ever sleep? If I respond to a comment of yours I get an almost immediate response every time.

Of course it is “no” because it makes your point sound wrong. Only watching the UFC doesn’t make people lesser MMA fans, it just makes them average fans who are watching the top promotion with the best quality. I watch other promotions but I am not going to deny that the UFC is that much greater with production value and better fighters (other than in the heavyweight divison).

Haha tell a can.. Jesse you slay me. Can someone please please please have the worlds oldest man retire already. For real. Its not even funny anymore. He’s about to have his hall of fame status revoked for being so horrible. The game changed Ken. Take your Alzheimers pills and go retire in Florida.

why why whyyyy?! Dignity PLEEEEASE! What am I supoosed to tell my children when explaining why this guys in the HOF?
by The Dude on Dec 17, 2008 11:49 AM EST reply actions
That’s the thing, he won’t be the last “legend” who fight long after his time and becomes the punching back for small show champs. Look at Goodridge.

They need an annual old-timer’s event like they used to do in baseball during All-Star Weekend.

World most endangered man….sad but becoming true.
by RyanHobbs on Dec 18, 2008 1:09 AM EST up reply actions
What is going to take for these old guys to hang up the gloves????
Does Gary Goodridge need to go into a coma after another strike? Why does someone have to get seriously injured? That is EXACTLY what is going to happen with people like Shamrock and goodridge still fighting. Just because Randy Couture could do it, DOESNT mean everyone can. Randy is a genetic freak of nature.
SIMPLY, one of these “old” guys like Shamrock are going to get SERIOUSLY injured….hence, the sport will get a bad name also. Please hang em up. It is dangerous to your health, as well as, the growth of the sport
by fightfan on Dec 17, 2008 11:49 AM EST reply actions
I agree. There’s gotta be a commission somewhere to stop someone from getting licensed after having been knocked out a hundred times, if only for their own health… what could that commission be called? Oh yeah thats right NSAC and CSAC. Way to do your jobs. Good job keeping Aleksander Emilienenko off his card though guys.

again with this guy……..geez, give it up Can Shamrock!

Only in the US can commission do something. Gary is fighting in the middle of eastern europe as a UFC/Pride vet attraction. Also i completely agree with you when it comes to commissions, always gets my blood boiling.

NOOOOOOOOO, KEN, why did he have to go and ruin my birthday? WHY!!??!
by O damn he got caught on Dec 17, 2008 12:04 PM EST reply actions
wouldn’t that be awesome if he went on a winning tear and destroyed all the top names at 205 and then moved up to heavyweight and destroyed nog, lesnar, and finally fedor and then retired when he was 75?! hahahaha!!!! im high!

I agree, K. Shamrock is done… DONE. But you do have to admire his love for the game — the guy does not want to retire (as he should). I don’t feel it’s about the money (he’s not even close to a six figure audience-draw, so I’m sure he doesn’t make much per fight relative to his “legendary status”… he could easily make the same, and more $$$, commentating, promoting himself, etc) or the respect (come on, does he really think a win or two here and there against marginal opponents will really remove the shadow that’s been cast over the horrible run he’s had in the past few years)… so that leaves one thing, the love and passion he has towards getting into the cage/ring and exchanging.
But Ken, my man, let it go… fight Frank, get one more pay day, and let it be. We know how much fighting means to you, but this is worse (much worse) than Michael Jordan coming back and tarnishing his “legendary status.”
What has the potential to be interesting: Ryan Shamrock vs. Ryan Couture

This is why you save money for retirement! They should put that on this picture and use it as a commercial for a brokerage.

amazing how people get all out of shape about Shamrock and others still fighting yet old man Severn continues to fight and no one complains about that!
by Markie on Dec 17, 2008 12:15 PM EST reply actions
severn stays out of the mainstream. shamrock still trys to market himself even though he sucks. dude’s gotta make a buck somehow right?
by jonsey on Dec 17, 2008 12:18 PM EST up reply actions
Cause Severn wins most the time; the guys 54 and still winning fights; also he’s fighting at an appropriate level, he’s not trying to make tv deals/commercials/ppv’s he’s just fighting cause he loves to fight.
by O damn he got caught on Dec 17, 2008 12:19 PM EST up reply actions

Damnit, sorry for the multiple posts. But I really like those vids.
by PW on Dec 17, 2008 8:49 PM EST up reply actions
I had to explain to my wife who Ken Shamrock was back when he was going to face Kimbo.
I said that he’s basically the Ozzy Osbourne of MMA – old, crippled, feeble, with his best days more than a decade behind him and not knowing when to quit.

That is exactly what The Dude can tell his family haha

I hope he’s fighting Evinger or Tate, at this point in Shamrock’s career their the only ones on the card he has a shot against.
I wouldn’t be too quick to take him over Evinger either!

by The Anomaly on Dec 17, 2008 1:40 PM EST reply actions
He will face some bum to assure a victory and then get knocked out by him in the first round. I kind of hope he wins though because I am convinced he can beat Sylvia the clumsy giant.
by elstiko on Dec 17, 2008 2:01 PM EST reply actions
i agree, i hope he fights sylvia, kicks his big dumb butt, then retires! ken shamrock was fun to watch back in the day, but it sucks being a shamrock fan and watching him get beat down all the time. kick sylvia’s ass then take bow, ken.

I would like to watch that too. Two over the hill guys who can’t seem to ever win anymore. I am not being sarcastic, I would love to see that fight.
by RyanHobbs on Dec 18, 2008 1:18 AM EST up reply actions
I just re-read that comment that I left…It sounded sarcastic…I DO want to watch it hahaha. I think it is a match up that should have happened a long time ago and I would be excited to watch just to see one of them relive the glory of victory again.

You’ve gotta be kidding me….come on, Ken, it’s alright to retire, bud. You’re in the HOF…you don’t need to tarnish your image any more than you already have. Ya know if you’re inducted you should be able to be deducted. At this point I’m ready to start taking polls to see who wants to deduct him from the HOF. From the hall of fame to the hall of shame. Quack!!
by KJ Mack on Dec 17, 2008 5:23 PM EST reply actions
Tarnish his image in who’s eyes? Some punk motherfuckers on the internet? Ken is going to keep fighting and making money regardless of what some typing on their keyboards think.

I look forward to seeing Ken fight. He trains hard, is in killer shape and is a legend. If he would put together a good game plan, he good have success. He can’t go in and swing with people 20 years younger.
