Patrick Cote: 'I feel great' after successful knee surgery

Props: MMANews.com
Quoteworthy:
"I feel great. I'm already walking with a brace and it's all good. I'll be back soon."
Patrick Cote tore the meniscus in his right knee during the third round of his main event fight against middleweight champion Anderson Silva at UFC 90: "Silva vs. Cote" at the Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Ill., back in October. He recently underwent arthroscopic knee surgery to repair the damage and appears to already be on the road to recovery, which could be up to eight months or even more. Once he is fully fit expect the Canadian to clamor for another crack at "The Spider." He has indicated since the incident that there is still some unfinished business that needs to be addressed.

I had the exact same injury from playing football and i tell you now it is not that bigger deal.
The surgery is keyhole which leaves no big wounds to heal and the only recovery time is waiting for the swelling to go down.
He will be walking on it in a day and running in a week, i was. MMA training is something else but still there is no reason once the swelling has gone why not to.
All it is now he’s basically missing a bit of cartalidge (sp) that will never be back so get on with it already!
That being said he should just be shuffled back into the pile of top 10 (UFC) M/W’s.

there are different types of meniscus tears, the common one is same day surgery and i have seen people have surgery on friday and playing baseball on monday.that is because the just shave the mensicus when they have to go in and repair the meniscus witch sounds like the case here its a much ,longer process.

lol, I hope you’re joking?! If that was the case, Brady should have been back with the pats week 4 right? you must be superman, because I’ve never heard of or seen an athlete come back from this type injury in under 10 months!

lol @ bradpittfightclub
Too bad he won’t actually get a second title shot…

it’s a good thing actually.. no waste of anderson’s time..
by shamo84 on Dec 16, 2008 8:15 AM EST up reply actions
True. He never really earned a title shot in the first place, and Anderson looked like a cat playing with a dead bird in that fight.
by naturalshadow on Dec 17, 2008 3:19 AM EST up reply actions
I think Cote TKO’s Anderson next time they fight his game plan this first fight was great. Second time around this fight is going to end for sure and not by fucked up meniscus! Anderson will still be the favorite coming in by huge margin but clearly Cote can take him with another good camp.

You been smoking rocks out of tin foil I see…

Clearly he can take him? What fight did you watch? If they fought again, even Cote’s mother would put money on Silva.

Not sure if I agree with either of you. Pretty tough to see Cote beating Silva, but he did make Silva look human (aka not demolishing his opponent in the first two rounds). Who knows what would have happened in rounds 3 – 5. UFC does generate a lot of unheard upsets.
Maybe all this Silva talk of retiring is due to a personal issue?? Interesting to see what he’ll do in his next fight.
by DF on Dec 16, 2008 9:38 AM EST up reply actions
thats because silva was having a dance contest with him, not a fight

You feel great? Well you’ll feel even better in case you do a rematch w/Anderson[w/c I think is a waste of time] because you’ll feel comfy in a soft bed, a hospital bed. Goodluck.

the only fight i care to see with anderson at 185 would be bisping. i want to see more fights at 205
by tuffguy01 on Dec 16, 2008 12:53 AM EST reply actions
Yea cause bisping is the only challenger for anderson at 185..
I so tired of hearing that!! hendo, franklin, marqurdt, okami, leites…. are all guys who could beat bisping and give a better fight with anderson… even though nobody wants to see franklin vs silva 3.

Actually all of his brothers have the same name jay penn..
BJ was the last born so they called him baby jay.. hence BJ
by mike22 on Dec 16, 2008 1:51 AM EST up reply actions
BJ does some crazy Hawaiian vodoo shit….and broke GSP’s leg. he also put Steroid in Sherks bloodstream, gave GSP his goofy accent and made Matt Hughes a republican…oh, and he helped obama win the presidency.

Did you guys not see the first fight or something? Anderson truly looked like a spider, and Cote like a fly caught in his web. I don’t even understand what everyone was pissed at Anderson after the fight about either. (And I’m a Canadian!… now roll the beer commercial…) I personally, was mad at the UFC for not giving Silva a legit contender.
No matter which way you look at that fight Cote did not earn that title shot. he inked out a win over Almeda? It was insulting as a fan(even a Canadian fan…) for him to have been in that #1 spot or ever be there again. I still think that there’s just too many MW’s in the UFC that could put Cote down. Hendo, Franklin, Demian, Gouveia, Okami, Palhares, maybe Bisping… frankly let’s not forget that Cote got embarrassed by Lutter (who has about a nickel’s worth in his gas tank on average.)Does this guy deserve another title shot? Not a chance. In my eyes if he wants it he has to WALK THROUGH the above. Not just ink out a boring victory over a semi-respected one dimensional fighter.
by fleet on Dec 16, 2008 1:07 AM EST reply actions
Cote was doing the best out of anybody who faced the spider so i’d kinda like to see happen again. Besides, we don’t got much more to look at at MW anyway. Bisbing? Please. Okami sure, but thats only one other option.
by The Anomaly on Dec 16, 2008 1:34 AM EST reply actions
I’d argue Henderson’s first round and Lutter’s full mount were both more impressive than Cote’s unsuccessful striking.
However, I think Cote is one of the few people in the middleweight division who has any chance at all.
by DirtyML on Dec 16, 2008 6:05 AM EST up reply actions
Hendo should get a rematch assuming he gets past Rich, which I think he will. Kinda looked like Silva was toying with Cote, not really trying to put him away; he got enough bad press over it that if a rematch happens Cote isn’t making it out of rd 1. And anyway, by the look of the first fight, it was just a matter of time as to when Cote went down. I say just move on, Silva rematching Hendo or Marquardt are both better fights imo. IF Bisping can get past whoever’s coaching against him on TUF then I’d say give him a shot.

I think silva is sooo bad ass that he tore up cotes “meniscus” (w/e that is) without anyone noticing lol

i was about to comment on the chili. i assume it’s chili. and there’s some kind of bun or sandwich in his hand as well.

I wish Cote a speedy recovery.
We still have to give Cote credit for what he did against Silva regardless of how you feel about a rematch.
by ProKev on Dec 16, 2008 3:41 AM EST reply actions
If it takes 8 months just the repair, its gonna take another 4 months atleast to get back in shape, it is not like he can exercise that strenuously in rehab.
Let’s give him the benefit of the doubt and say he is back in 10 months, by then Anderson will have fought for sure.
I am gonna guess either; Demian Maia, Thales Leites or Anderson fights at 205 in another matchup against someone like Luis Cane or Brandon Vera.
by DirtyML on Dec 16, 2008 6:07 AM EST reply actions
He doesn’t look great… just giving a thumbs up doesn’t cancel out the hospital bed, drips, massive knee brace etc. Hope he’s back well soon.
by BritishBulldog on Dec 16, 2008 7:04 AM EST reply actions
You are wrong… the thumbs up easily cancels out almost any devestating dmg.
by O damn he got caught on Dec 16, 2008 10:04 AM EST up reply actions
Cote is on my last nerve after that fight. I know it wasn’t his fault or his doing but the ending to that fight was worse than him making faces at Scott Smith in their fight. Seems like a good guy and a decent fighter, but it also seems like he’s involved in some of the most dissapointing moments in UFC history.
by O damn he got caught on Dec 16, 2008 10:38 AM EST reply actions
Someone should examine his head while he is in the hospital if he thinks anyone wants to see him have a rematch with DA Spida. Good think they have universal heath care in Canada.
