Show him the money: Forrest Griffin open to Wanderlei Silva fight

Props: MMAFanHouse.com

Quoteworthy:

"I think Wanderlei is a bad man and Wanderlei will get [Rampage Jackson at UFC 92]. I'm not great at calling fights but that's my honest opinion.... He's a good training partner and we're becoming better friends because his English is geting better. I've got nothing bad to say about Wanderlei. He will never get tired of punching you. There's just no break in him. I think of myself as someone who's willing to do as much as anyone, but he's the one guy who might do more. That's a bad dude. He's hard to put out. If he was a video game, he'd have no life bar. You've got a life bar that goes down but his life bar doesn't go down. That's why I like watching him fight.... It would be great. If it's for the right money or a belt, I'll fight anyone."

UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Forrest Griffin talks about the possibility of fighting his XTreme Couture training partner and budding friend, Wanderlei Silva, down the road. Griffin will defend his belt against Rashad Evans in the main event at UFC 92: "The Ultimate 2008" on December 27. And "The Axe Murderer" will take on Quinton "Rampage" Jackson on the same night. If both fighters win it could set up a potential showdown some time in 2009. The winner of the bout between Lyoto Machida and Thiago Silva is also a likely candidate to earn number one contender status. One thing is for certain: There appears to be no shortage of good fights at 205 pounds anytime soon.

Wandy will beat Rampage…

by mikeybear on Dec 15, 2008 9:33 AM EST reply actions   0 recs

WEll both of them are going to lose the same night, so it could possibly happen sometime down the road.

Forrest will lose. Wand won’t. No fighter goes to Europe to train unless they plan on only doing Muay thai or kickboxing. Everyone comes to the states to get better MMA training.

I love Wandy.. Im he’s that dude.. I thought that even though Wandy beat Page 2X before..that both fights were competitive..Page fought Chuck the same day as he fought Wandy? That’s insane.

Well.. I wouldn’t be more inclined to give Wandy a without a doubt.. “W”..
If he was fighting the Pre Foresst Fight Page.. I’m PAge looked so much better then his previous years in Pride.. but since the Post Forrest fight..I don’t know.. I give Page a 31% chance of beating Wandy. If it was before Page lost his title I would of given page a 49% chance of beating Wandy.

ATTENTION AKA (Fitch, Kos and Swick)
this is a man talking, listen to him. You tools are fighters, not brothers!
I respect this, and wish more guys who train together would have this attitude! I as a fan, want to see the best fights!
oh, by the way, wand would kill Forrest, just like he’s gonna kill rampage!

I was just about to post the same thing. IMO, AKA has three of the top six welterweight fighters in the UFC (and world for that matter). They are going to have to fight one another eventually. I love some of the quotes from Forrest.

Hey Kev, how’d you do at the tournament over the weekend? I played in a cash game (1,2 NL Hold ‘em) at Turning Stone on Saturday Night. I was $300 in and went up to about $800, but I was having fun so I didn’t want to get up, and then lost all the profit. I walked away even at $300 at about 530 AM on Sunday morning, after playing for 9 hours. Ive never been real good at live tournaments, so I don’t usually play them. I do pretty well in some of the smaller online ones though.

prize pool ended up being 24k. I played the best poker of my life, that said, got busted in 15th. It payed top 10.
sat I had AQ against A5, river came 5.
the structure allowed me to play again sun. (both days down to 5 for the final table)
I got pocket queens, pushed and was called by AQ, I had him dominated…until the ace came. overall a fun time, just aggravating, I don’t mind losing if I play bad, but I was playing great.
I turned around and lost 700 on NFL games yesterday.
philly and over look good tonight, but the spread is very high…overall, bad gambling weekend!

I agree Kevin. These AKA guys are like sarority siters or something. Either fight each other, move divisions or move your ass to Japan.

Where do you play at Kev? I know you said your going down to SD on a family trip, but Harrah’s has a place down there somewhere. If you got some down time at night, you might want to hit it up. If you’re ever in L.A. you should go to Commerce. They got some decent low steaks there like 2/2 and 3/3 (dealer takes one from the small blind I think). I’ve rolled plenty of suckers at the tables there.

by the_mexicutioner on Dec 15, 2008 12:17 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

thank mexi, I don’t play limit games, usually play 2/3/5 NL with minimum come in bet of 10 bucks! I’m on a strict budget in SD, last minute trip with money I’ve won ONLY! I lost a little over a grand total this weekend, and monday night game isn’t a lock! I play in san jose (bay101) sometimes in middle of the night, lots of drunks giving money away!

Forrest needs to stop hating on Rampage. After eeking out a decision, he should just keep his name out of his mouth!

I am very happy to hear that Forrest is open to fighting wanderlei, unlike the Aka Fags!

I have a ton of catching up to do. I missed the entire TUF Finale. I just found out who won the fights. Can anyone tell me which fights are worth watching. Help me catch up guys…..Thanks!

they were all pretty good John!
Kaplan and Junie enter the cage like idiots, I’ve never seen a “professional” be so dumb..I must be getting old!
Junie somehow got fight of the night over efrain/nover, my theory, he has a gay sex tape with Dana White as leverage. He doesn’t get kicked off the show, gets on the man card and gets fight of the night! WOW. That said,He looked much improved!

i got rampage all day long against wand~

rampage will beat wand and fight rashad for the lhw belt

in the first quarter of 09.

thats stinkys~predicktion.

by stinky~fingers on Dec 15, 2008 9:48 AM EST reply actions   0 recs

Got the exact opposite… Forrest and Wandi win and will fight for LHW belt first part 09. Thiago beats Machida and will need 1 more win to fight for belt. Bet on that stink!

by BNF on Dec 15, 2008 11:43 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Well your predictions are worse than horrible. Which means Forrest vs Wandi for the belt in ’09, that is if Machida doesnt get first crack at it.

by c-war on Dec 15, 2008 12:36 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

you guys are still upset that Page lost to Forrest, aren’t you. man the most game fighter in the business gets no respect. here it is…….you all say “no way chuck will beat page. page beat him 2×. page will kill him.” ok well then you say “page will beat wandi. wandi beat him 2x but it’s page’s turn.” by the way….if you didn’t see the first 2 page wandi fights. wandi destroyed him. wandi took liddel’s shot and never went to sleep. i think wandi and forrest will be the best face to face, toe to toe fight we’ve seen in a long time. if it happens. rashaad is no joke. i give him props for ko’ing chuck. he was too fast for chuck. i just don’t see him ko’ing forrest. if rashaad wins he will have to wrestle forrest for all 5 rounds. toe to toe i give it to forrest. just because of the chin of forrest. by the way JUNIE IS FOR REAL…………LOL.

Forrest wont stands toe to toe with Wanderlei. Forrest knows that wandy’s ground game is over rated, and Forrest is much bigger so he would just take wanderlei down. He is much better on the ground than wandy!

When they fight, I promise Forrest will not stand with him.

Well john, i guess you haven’t heard about the union of Big Nog and Wand yet. They will be training with each other from now on according to Alejarra even for 92. Also wand is trying to get either demian or comprido to be his fight team’s BJJ coach.

wandy will knockout rampage. if wandy and forrest fight it could be one the best lhw fights in the ufc. when thaigo beats machida he will fight evans after forrest beats him. and dont forget about shogun cause he’s on the come back after all his knee injuries.

by ckrump on Dec 15, 2008 9:57 AM EST reply actions   0 recs

Wandy or Rampage will get the title shot over the Thiago/Lyoto winner. Wandy/Rampage are getting older and White will want to use their names for PPV draws in belt match ups. Lyoto and Thiago are not huge PPV draws (outside of mmamania) at this point but aren’t far off. They both need a couple more fights.

If Rampage beats Wandy, then I want to see Rashad beat Forrest because I am not interested in seeing Forrest vs Rampage again, however, if Wanderlei wins, I woudlnt mind seeing he and Forrest fight, but I would so LOVE to see someone put a DEVASTATING beating on Rashad because I cannot stand him (just my opinion of him)and I think Wanderlei is too aggresive for timid run away and swing big Rashad….Either way it looks like us fan have some good fights ahead no matter who wins or loses.

Does anyone know if Chuck Liddell will fight agian and if so against who?

finally someone who will fight against a training partner.

by Egads on Dec 15, 2008 10:16 AM EST reply actions   0 recs

thank you egads…everyone is missing the point here. who cares about who will win the page vs wand fight. there will be plenty of threads to argue that point in the coming weeks. Not only do we finally have someone saying that he will fight a friend, but it’s a champion. This is refreshing and I wish ppl from other camps would take notice. When they say they won’t fight friends, it always seems to me like they won’t do it b/c their training partners know too much about their habits and they are a little bit scared. It never comes off like “oh, he’s a friend and we don’t wanna hurt each other”. Time for guys to man up and take fights. The UFC should start forcing these guys hands.

by Crowls on Dec 15, 2008 12:07 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

i trained with both and i think wandy will destroy rampage a third time and put a definite hurt on forest’s questionable chin

by SALAMI on Dec 15, 2008 10:17 AM EST reply actions   0 recs

yea wasnt Rampage also supposed to put a hurt on Forrest’s chin? That didnt go so well huh?

by Chadx23 on Dec 15, 2008 10:19 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Debatable.

by O damn he got caught on Dec 15, 2008 10:22 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Very Debatable! I re watched that fight last night and I am still confused. I just feel that it was such a close fight that the belt should not have changed hands. If it were a normal 3 round fight and it was that close, then I wouldn’t care who they gave the fight to. But Rampage was the DEFENDING UFC champion, and 1st ever Unified Pride/UFC champion…I needed to see Forrest take the title, and I didnt see that at all. It was given to him, and I still have a terrible taste in my mouth about it!

No worries Rashad is going to knock is block off!

and If Forrest ever fight wanderlei, it wont be as exciting as you guys think. Wandy’s ground game is very over rated (to be a black belt) and Forrest’s is probably his best attribute so Randy’s gameplan will involve a lot of Forrest taking wandy down, because he will be much bigger and stronger then wanderlei and to beat him on the ground.

So all you fans who think they are going to go out there and swing for the fences, that Forrest is long gone, he is much more calculated now. He and Randy both know his limitations and they formulate a gameplan that emphasizes his strengths.

Basically what I am trying to say is I dont see Forrest trying to stand with wanderlei AT ALL!

Same thing goes with Rashad. I dont think Rashad will stand with wandy either. he will use his supperior wrestling to take the fight to the ground.

btw, I think Rampage isnt going to tsand with wandy either. Thats why I believe Ranmpage is going to defeat wanderlei on the 27th. Rampage took wandy down in both of the previous fights but the refs stood them up to fast. That wont happen in the cage.

U guys all laugh at Rampage signing with the wolfslair, wait till you see this fight. I think it was a brilliant move by Rampage and it will pay dividends against wanderlei. Rampage is going to take him down and put a hurting on him. If Rampage stays active from top position I dont see wanderlei sweeping him or being able to get the fight back standing again, so I got Rampage winning.

If you want me to be honest, I dont even want to see this fight. I dont want to see either fighter lose, so I might just turn away during the fight. Seeing one of these 2 lose, is very hard for me to take. I am pissed that this fight has been booked. I would have preferd to see Wanderlei vs. Hendo 3 since Hendo is fighting at 205 again. Rampage could have fought Rich Franklin, Machida, or Thiago!

Also, I don’t know if anyone else has noticed, but to me Wandy looks smaller, slower, and less powerful than his Pride version. DON’T take what I’m saying the wrong way, I’m NOT saying Wandy is anywhere close to small, slow, or not powerful. I’m just saying it looks to me like he’s lost a bit in those categories since Pride. I’m a big fan of both fighters though. That being said, Rampage wins with slams and GNP.

by Diceman on Dec 15, 2008 9:01 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Nah, his fight with Chuck he looked like the nerves got to him, dropping 2 fights in a row by KO and debuting in the UFC against Liddell he just wanted to get out there and put on a show; now he’s in it to win it. The fight with Jardine wasn’t really long enough to make an assessment; but trust me, Wandi is 32 yrs old, it’s prime time. He’s training with Couture, he’s probably got some new tricks in the clinch. Its on now; Rampage is goin down

I would love to see Machida KO’d. You can only run for so long before you get caught, and that’s exactly what’s gonna happen to him. He’s just not aggresive enough for me. Forrest has got plenty of grit, and I give him mad props for reaching the status he’s reached, however Rashad Evans is at the top of his game right now, and I’d be surprised if Forrest can last 3, let alone 5. Rampage is probably still butt-hurt about getting his block knocked off by Wandy in pride…he’s got a score to settle, and I think he’ll capitalize.

by KJ Mack on Dec 15, 2008 10:54 AM EST reply actions   0 recs

what are you saying? Forrest went 5 rounds with Rampage! His cardio is not questionable! On the other hand Rashad BARELY made it all 3 rounds with Bisping and he looked GASSED…he was also sweating very heavily in his 2 round fight with Chuck. Rashad is not a cardio man….and even if he is, Forrest has better cardio.

by Chadx23 on Dec 15, 2008 11:43 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Forrest went five rounds with a hard hitting Rampage who (even though he wasnt on top of his game) buckled him a bunch of times. No way Rashad hits harder than Rampage so if Forrest can survive that assault for five rounds, Rashad ain’t gonna do anything. Top of his game or not.

I just read on another site (a brazilian one) that Wand and Minotauro are training together for their bouts on UFC 92. I know it’s true because Amaury Bittetti said it, but he didn’t say where (or he said it and I don’t remember). Perhaps Wand is no longer with Xtreme Couture or just decided to get a different training approach. If it’s true, Minotauro Team now has Anderson Silva, Lil’ Nog, Wand, Vitor Belfort, Rafael Feijao and Junior dos Santos. It’s actually becoming a very good camp.

Do you smoke crack ralphi,Forrest does not have anything machida cannot stop you mean. Machida is technically better in every way and has more power than forrest. He outpointed rampage in some ppls minds (not mine) in the most controversial fight of the year, rampage gets griffin again he will beat him, but none of this may matter since rashad probably is gonna knock him silly just like jardine did.

by LG on Dec 15, 2008 6:13 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I think really the next title fight depends on the winners of 92. I think that if Rampage and Forrest both win there will be an immediate rematch between them since the last one was so close. If Rashad wins then I truly think he will fight the winner of Thiago and Lyoto since they will be the only two undefeated figthers in the division. If Wandy and Forrest win I don’t think they still will fight each other because Wandy is still only 2-5 but who knows. I think Forrest will still fight the winner of Thiago and Machida. I think the best chance Wandy has is if he and Thiago win then he might jump ahead.

by J-money on Dec 15, 2008 3:27 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

I think who fights for the title next depends on who wins at 92. I know that’s an obvious statement, but I’ll explain. If Rampage and Forrest win, I think Rampage jumps Machida/Thiago due to being the former champion in a close fight. Now if Rashad wins and Rampage they make Rampage fight Forrest again anyways before he can get a shot again. If Wandy and Forrest win I think Machida/T. Silva might still get a shot over Wandy, but maybe not. If Rashad and Wandy win then again I think Machida or T. Silva will get a shot at the title first, since it will be a battle of the undefeated. I could be wrong, but I think if Forrest wins he will fight first either T.Silva/Machida or rematch Rampage. If Rashad wins I think he will fight T. Silva or Machida no matter if Rampage or W. Silva wins.
