Junie Browning apologizes to Frank Mir and stuff

Props: The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 8 Finale
Quoteworthy:
"I gave [Frank] Mir a hard time on the show and stuff. I just want to apologize to everybody, everyone watching and stuff. Mir's actually an awesome coach. It was more my fault. I don't think I would have put up with myself either. So, uh, I apologize to you Mir and the rest of Mir's team and stuff -- they were awesome coaches."
Junie Browining -- the contestant on this season of The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) who everyone loves to hate and who everyone wants to see get his ass kicked (including Dana White) -- apologizes to his coach on the show, Frank Mir, after stopping Dave Kaplan via submission. Mir has been outspoken since the show concluded that he thought the the Lexington, Ky., native should have been kicked off the show for his ridiculous behavior. Browning, however, appears to have the last laugh, demonstrating some nice standup and improved cardio in his fight against the "Singing Bee" champion. He also seems to now be on the straight and narrow after a tumultuous alcohol-induced stint on the mixed martial arts reality series. And stuff.

i knew junie was a great fighter, he just wanted to get outta the house, he had the skill but had no mental game

what is your definition of the word “great”?
by Egads on Dec 14, 2008 4:34 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
I don’t get the logic of being the ‘Chris Leben’ of this past TUF. Sure, Junie got a lot of TV time and is more well known than some of the other guys – but why not be an ass and STILL win the whole damn thing? Why piss away the 100k contract?
Junie may have looked better in his most recent fight…but I highly doubt he has the game to beat either Nover or Escudero.

Junie currently has the mind set of a bully or front runner, a tougher fighter than Junie (not necessarily more skilled) can break him. With maturity Junie can become a contender, he’s young and needs to be brought up slowly or the pressure will get to him. Not that I like the guy, but if he stops acting like a punk and shows heart, I’ll give him another chance.

I missed the Finale, how did Junie look? I assume he won, can anyone tell me how he looked, or how the fight looked.
by john on Dec 15, 2008 12:41 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Junie looked really good in the fight. His striking was crisp, his cardio looked solid, and he finished the fight with a nice arm bar. And I thought Kaplan looked much improved as well (it would be hard for him not to). But it’s still hard to gauge Junie off a fight with an opponent like Kaplan.

I wanna see him fight Nover. He would get blasted to hell.

I believe that’s “Singing” Bee. Although Dave might be a great speller as well.

I have to admit,I was hating on Junie ,for the way he looked against Efrain, but he did look 10 times better last night than he looked on the entire show,I expected Junie to win ,but not in that fashion. He looked very sharp on his feet and on the ground
by Scott on Dec 14, 2008 12:27 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
Was I the only one that was shocked by the winners last night.I did not see Efrain controlling Nover like that, and I really did not expect Bader to make Vinny flop like a fish.

Junie is a tool but that doesn’t matter because he is a good fighter. TUF should get rid of the house and just show fighters training and fighting with no other bs. Then we wouldn’t have to care if a talented guy is annoying.

Then they wouldn’t attract as many viewers. It’s not all about us.

True. And a side comment: Remember when Dana told junie that reality stars are id*ots? There’s only 1 sub-group of people dumber than reality stars, and that’s people who watch enough to hype them into stars.

Even after his impressive performance I’m still hating on Junie. He’s still a disgrace like his role model Leben.
by RiverHorror on Dec 14, 2008 1:09 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
See I only think everyone hates on Leben because they were disappointed with him. Not me I expected Leben to do steroids and therefore was not let down when he did. I can’t wait till he comes back!!! WAR LEBEN!!

First of all, I lost a lot of respect for Junie after his fight. Saying that he acted that way to get attention, he was a completely different person last night, and people just don’t change that much. If he was acting for attention on the show that’s really lame.
Also, I think Bader was the better of the two fighters, but honestly did anyone else see that punch? It barely landed, and then Vinny didn’t even attempt to get up after, but was fine as soon as the ref jumped in. Seemed like an odd finish.
by Esiex on Dec 14, 2008 1:21 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
Odd finish? Have you ever been hit behind the ear….. even a glancing shot from someone Like Darth Bader will disconnect your neurotransmission…. they are only human….
by Psyqo78®™ on Dec 14, 2008 2:49 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
I agree, and even though he’s not an exceptional striker, Bader does have heavy hands. And even though the punch was partially blocked, it did hit him right behind the ear. We’ve seen that before: Grove vs. Cote, GSP vs. Serra, Brock vs. Randy . . . it really throws off your equilibrium.

I understand how you feel – although, keep in mind I did not watch much of the show. Dude had never made any money in his life and this was his one chance at making a name for himself in the “reality show” game. I cant dismiss Mirr’s thoughts about the way or life of a martial artist – he is correct, but Frank has already made his mark. Granted, Junie’s behavior was off the charts – but he played the cards he was dealt the best he could and backed it with a respectable performance in the ring. Does that make him a whore??? I am not sure but he played Dana White perfectly and my dissatisfaction is more with Dana (hypocrite) than with Junie. Again, the dude is dirt poor, will never get a chance of this magnitude, and he had a stand up performance the other night. OK – that’s my two cents.

If there is a pay per view with Junie in it, I would never pay to watch it even if the card was loaded. The guy is a goof.

I like Junie okay. Like Mir said, that house is a pressure cooker. They’re trying to get crazy reactions. Without going into that house with the sole intention of avoiding everyone, I have a feeling I’d lose my cool too. When I was younger, no doubt I would have thrown a glass or two. It looks like Junie might be halfway normal now that he’s in a normal environment. Having older better fighters around him is no doubt helpful as well.
by Punch You in the Ovaries on Dec 14, 2008 2:00 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
Sure whatever. One moment he’s hitting someone, the next he’s crying and then he apologizes and then the cycle continues. I feel bad for anyone who has to be anywhere near this guy.

You don’t have and angry/crying drunks for friends? I thought we all had at least one.

Wow he can finally count to three. I am not impressed that he was able to hit a guy who fights with his face. Please, Kaplan shouldn’t be in the UFC. Can you imagine ANYONE losing to someone who enters the ring with such a gay song. Junie had to defeat him. That said I thought he should have been able to finish him in the first. Junie made it to the second and everyone raves about his improved cardio. His mouth was open and he looked tired to me. He also got rocked a couple of times by Kaplan. I am still not impressed and that division is stacked with people who would all destroy Junie.
by MrFyer on Dec 14, 2008 6:50 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
Junie’s a lame. Anyone that gets that kind of oppurtunity and does everything in their power to sabotage themselves isn’t an asset to the UFC. Who wouldn’t look good against Kaplan. He doesn’t even keep his hands up! I’m not impressed. He should have just kept his mouth shut, and made the most of his golden oppurtunity.

I love how Goldy and Rogan spoke so highly of Leben. How he “turned his life around.” Suspension for ‘roids is not exactly a high point of one’s career.

Dude lived in a house proped up by a stick or something like that. His father was abusive, absent, an a alcoholic.
Leben is not perfect… but he lives a credible life training others and trying to better himself. He fell victim to temptation. I would rather spend my time giving him credit for not stealing, drinking ect. and give him a pass on this one. I am disapointed with him but I am not throwing him under the bus – not yet.

yeah think about where Chris Leben could be… you wanna get beat up by the Chris Leben who came to collect the cash you owe your bookie for making a dumb bet on Randy Vs. Brock… He’s trying… he could be much much worse of a person

didnt quite think about it that way. TOO FUNNY – Leben coming to collect on the lesnar fight. Cheers!
