Efrain Escudero to honor his late father with TUF finale victory

Props: NBC Sports
Quoteworthy:
"I wanted to stay and be with my family. The UFC is always going to be there, and it was a bad moment for my family. I got the invitation for [The Ultimate Fighter], and my dad made me promise that if anything were to happen, I would go. He wanted me to go in and give it 110 percent with no regrets. I'm dedicating the whole show to my father. My goal is to get on the mic, and the only way to get on the mic is by beating Phillipe. Then I'll have a chance to tell everyone why I did this show. I want to tell everyone that this whole show, and everything I've done is because of my dad."
The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 8 lightweight finalist Efrain Escudero talks about competing on the SpikeTV reality show with a heavy heart after the loss of his father Oscar, a former pro boxer from Mexico who dies just a week before taping began. Escudero remained remarkably composed during the season, even in the face of some very confrontational antics from fellow lightweight contestant Junie Browning. The undefeated Escudero has a chance to win it all on Saturday night with a win over the seemingly unstoppable Phillipe Nover.

Loosing a father is one of the hardest things to do at that age. Hopefully he channels his emotions and gets the win. Good luck Efrain!

The guy expresses sympathy for the death of a relative, and you chime in to criticize his spelling….classy.

He feels powerful by correcting peoples spelling

You two are WAY too serious!! It’s something that’s done everyday, and corrected everyday. Nothing personal is meant by it, good grief.

Haha, “good grief.” Obviously unintentional but nontheless funny as you are talking about someone overreactng about some being oversympathetic.

Pretty tough to root against him after reding that.
by Haze on Dec 12, 2008 11:13 AM EST reply actions 0 recs
I got nover!
that wasn’t tough at all!
by kevin on Dec 12, 2008 11:33 AM EST up reply actions 0 recs
kevin you didn’t call him on spelling reading (reding) wrong.
by roy on Dec 12, 2008 11:43 AM EST up reply actions 0 recs
missed it roy, thats probably (I hope) an honest mistake, the loose/lose debate has been going on for months!!

Correcting grammar and spelling here is futile. Even Mania’s articles are full of misuse of things like to, too, and two. I was a 4.0 geek through college and completed an Engineering Physics Degree. The funny thing is that a lot of genius-level engineers and scientist I worked with sucked at grammar. So, I guess it’s not so bad. Blame on Microsoft Word and its damn spelling and grammar checks.

I got Nover all the way too.. this happening to Efrian can work against him as well.. if he is too worked up for this finale fight.. now I just feel..that he will be able to get the mic and shout out his Dad.. regardless if he loses… cuz the UFC knows about what happened. I’m sure..

PYITO, it’s the “loose” lose thing I find funny, it’s the only one I correct, simply because it’s not a “mistake” and it’s funny!
by kevin on Dec 12, 2008 12:08 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Of course it’s a mistake. Not a typing error, but a spelling thing. What is funny is when someone who is a fan can’t spell a fighter’s name. It’s Sokoudjou not Sokujo. Check your spelling on the Babalu vs Sokoudjou comment.

No matter who “looses,” they are both winners on the inside, BITCHES!!!!

I don’t know what is worse, The name the_mexicutioner or his comment. What a dumb ass.

hey blueprint, I’m not a fan of sokujo and didn’t look up the spelling on purpose cause i don’t care.
you new guys don’t know, john always spells it loose so we bust his balls and correct him, I figured everyone would have learned by now!
by kevin on Dec 12, 2008 2:44 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
kevin gets sensitive when you call him on his spelling.
j/k i like the lose, loose, loss
by roy on Dec 12, 2008 3:01 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
maybe he spelled reding wrong because he dosn’t like reading.
by roy on Dec 12, 2008 3:03 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
the only thing I spell wrong is names (they’re not on spell check). the loose/lose misspelling is hilarious..IMO!
by kevin on Dec 12, 2008 3:12 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
funny thing is i read that, and didn’t even notice the misspells at first
by roy on Dec 12, 2008 5:03 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
subtlety is not normally my strongsuit. lol
by chefdaddy on Dec 12, 2008 6:38 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
That’s pretty amazing he stayed so composed on the show, being just 1 week out from that. I thought he had a pretty good chance before reading that, now it seems with that kind of motivation he can really pull off a W.
by BNF on Dec 12, 2008 11:15 AM EST reply actions 0 recs
Only thing Is that He Isn’t gonna win, so that’s not happening.
by Liddell-Marquardt-GSP-Sherk on Dec 12, 2008 11:21 AM EST reply actions 0 recs
How can you give the dude no chance? Isn’t he like 10-0. He has experience and obviously motivation. I think this will be a great fight.
by BNF on Dec 12, 2008 11:44 AM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Yeah the dude has amazing skills. Nover does too. Prob going to last a little longer than Kos and Yoshida. It WILL be fight of the night and they will each take home an extra $16k or whatever.

This is going to be tough, may the best man win…
by Shaolins Finest on Dec 12, 2008 11:25 AM EST reply actions 0 recs
Wow…I hope he does well, but I still want to see Phillipe win. We’ll see both of them in the UFC again anyway.

good luck efrain win loose or draw you have my respect. That is very admirable to do that
by TKO on Dec 12, 2008 11:38 AM EST reply actions 0 recs
Wow I did not know that he was going through that during the show. This kid deserves a lot of respect for fighting the way he did and winning. I hope he wins the finale but he has might not because Nover is no joke. Both of these guys will be fighting in the UFC in the future for sure. losing your father isn’t fun.

“Then I’ll have a chance to tell everyone why I did this show. "
But he just told us.. hmm..
by DirtyML on Dec 12, 2008 12:59 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
i like both efrain and philippe. although i think philippe is the stronger fighter, i hope efrain still gets a chance to speak with joe and honor his dad on the mic, win or lose.
by jack on Dec 12, 2008 2:26 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
Of course he will get a chance to speak. Nover and Efrain will hug it out and all that business.
