Mike Swick: 'Im back now' with 'quick' win over Jonathan Goulet

Props: Yahoo!Sports.com
Quoteworthy:
"I felt good when it hit. But I was thinking three punches ahead. When that punch landed, in my mind, I was already in the flurry.... I was, actually, [expecting Miragliotta to stop it sooner]. I was shocked he was taking those. I was hitting him hard with those lefts on the head. I kind of panicked a bit and wondered, ‘Is he going to last through this and am I going to lose this position?’ I was determined. I’ve had a few bumps in my career, but I’m healthy and I’m back now."
Former middleweight contender Mike Swick talks about his fast technical knockout finish of Jonathan Goulet at UFC Fight Night 16: "Fight for the Troops" last night. It was the first stoppage for the former The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) cast member in more than two years and the first for him as a welterweight. He now has three wins as a 170-pound fighter and likely more in the very near future ... but who is up next?

did you notice joe rogan say “swick comes out very aggressive,” yet he hadn’t even thrown a punch or a kick?
Goldie staring and nodding at the guy about the rehab clinic was disturbing too!
I’m searching for a GIF of the arm break, the dude was trans-like!

HAHA…Goldie freaks me out but I love it…sometimes he gets soooo close to Joes ear it looks like he wants to take a bite out of it…then he starts screaming at the top of his lungs…maybe its just because I smoke 3-4 joints before I watch it but I think its hilarious

Swick should be fighting for a title soon I would think. If memory serves correct he only lost one fight at MW, and has 3 straight now at WW. The only other person that could be ahead of him in the WW rankings, besides Thiago, is possibly Diego which he has now moved to LW.

That’s what that dude gets for not tapping. Maybe I’m a little sick, but I was laughing at Hassan for trying to be a tough guy. Or maybe, could he just be that stu*id?
by BNF on Dec 11, 2008 1:22 PM EST up reply actions
I agree. for a second I thought he rolled enough to get out of it, I was like “whoa, he’s out,” then I saw he wasn’t!
hey mania, is it a confirmed break?

You are mistaking an awesome performance with fighting the highest ranked glass chin the world.
by NameNotRequired on Dec 11, 2008 12:55 PM EST up reply actions
He knocked out Jonathan Goulet! The guy isnt even a gatekeeper. He sucks. He has a glass jaw. A win over him shouldn’t be a confidence booster by any means.
by the_mexicutioner on Dec 11, 2008 1:52 PM EST up reply actions
How the fuck can you say Swick is the man for knocking out a guy who has no fucking jaw! Swick is overrated and a Zuffa favorite that’s why he gets a favorable match up on national TV with a guy who is average at best and won’t fight in the UFC again until they have another card in Canada!

I get sick of the term “he’s back.”
they said it for diego, they said it after gsp won following his ko loss to serra, they seem to say it every time a guy wins after a loss! Next brandon vera is back! These guys never went any where, they had a bad showing or two, it happens! Saying there back is like saying there opponents accomplished nothing because he wasn’t there!
Last night was ok, I’ll give Kos credit, that was a great KO victory!
the troops get to me, they are getting injured and killed in a pointless war, that said, that’s what they signed up for. I respect and appreciate all the men and women in the armed forces! Celebs actually thinking for themselves instead of reading the same message over and over would have been nice. My wife sees these veterans every day, and she says they chose a couple to talk that were actually in pretty good shape!
my hats off to the troops!

anyone from or been to san diego? I’m staying at the westin gaslamp (4 stars baby) dec 25-28, looking for a few good restaurant suggestions! is legoland cool? sorry off topic, but the diversity of different guys can help me out, thanks!
by kevin on Dec 11, 2008 12:02 PM EST up reply actions
Ha ha, like the chat room style Kev… i often ask ramdom stuff. Can’t help you there, i’ve you come to my manor… being London i can hook you up.
I like this site its almost turning into a community, maniacs unite!

It’s a valid question, some of us have developed relationships to the extent that I trust some guys! Stinky recommended some restaurants in vegas, and didn’t disappoint! If it were a dumb pointless question, I’d understand mania omitting it, but it’s a serious question, and I think he gets and sees the camaraderie!

karl strauss is really good and they have a good selection of beer, pretty low key, not too fancy…
if youre looking for fancy but excellent food id suggest rainwaters on kettner, used to work there, excellent steak… my dad takes my 8 year old brother to legoland every time theyre in town so i imagine its probably pretty fun if you have a young one
by brendan on Dec 11, 2008 3:02 PM EST up reply actions
cool brendan, I’ll check those 2 out right now! looking for great food/presentation!

by kevin on Dec 11, 2008 3:12 PM EST up reply actions
its actually sort of on the other side of downtown… probably a 10 minute walk from the gaslamp or a 4 dollar cab ride, not too bad…
by brendan on Dec 11, 2008 5:21 PM EST up reply actions
legoland is actually cool for the kids….which I’m assuming you do
by McArthur on Dec 11, 2008 12:42 PM EST up reply actions
oh good, my son is excited, but I couldn’t get over the price! the san diego zoo is also on the agenda, just looking for a good christmas dinner!
by kevin on Dec 11, 2008 12:47 PM EST up reply actions
Hey Kev, I live here in san diego, and the westin the tight! My son loved Lego Land but your lookin at about a 45 min drive to that. I would suggest eating at the strip club (steak house perv) haha or eating at the Hard Rock cafe is nice, they have a lot to do down there. you going to be going to to a bar or club? i can help you there if you would like.
by Crazy on Dec 11, 2008 12:57 PM EST up reply actions
lol, no strip clubs anymore, and hard rock is too noisy and mediocre food (at best).
I’m going to rent a car for one day (legoland) but everything else (zoo, balboa park etc) is right near the westin right?
no club, just a long weekend with the family!
by kevin on Dec 11, 2008 1:00 PM EST up reply actions
the steak house is called “the Strip Club” hahahaha you always have hooters down there, but another good place to eat is called the Rock bottom, balboa park is awesome, you should check out “old Town” off the 5. Take 5 North from down town and you will see the exit for old town. Really awesome for the family and Balboa Park. hope you like your trip, if you have any more questions let me know. I know what its like doing the family thing, since i got the wife a kid also. hope that helps your trip.
by Crazy on Dec 11, 2008 1:17 PM EST up reply actions
I saw that on the web. my wife plans the family stuff, I choose where to eat! Hooters will be good sat night for the fight (if it’s not playing at the hotel). Either that or I’ll DVR it and not go online until sunday night! should be fun, only just over an hour flight!
by kevin on Dec 11, 2008 1:20 PM EST up reply actions
Thats good. If you like Sushi, i know a great Sushi spot down here that plays all the fights. but Hooters plays all the fights 2.

everything is right there in the gaslamp quarter, right? except lego land!
by kevin on Dec 11, 2008 1:01 PM EST up reply actions
Yea everything is right there off the Gaslamp which is 4th ave. exept for Lego Land. how old are your kids? you have Sea World, Zoo,Wild Animal Park, Lego Land. lots of great places.
by Crazy on Dec 11, 2008 1:35 PM EST up reply actions
Hey Kevin…we had an absolute blast at Sea World in SD as well
by McArthur on Dec 11, 2008 1:24 PM EST up reply actions
yeah, we got marine world here, went to sea world in orlando and are definitely going to the zoo (which I hear is amazing). I’m an animal/national geographic buff, but am trying to teach my wife what a budget is! So we’ll be skipping sea world!

by the_mexicutioner on Dec 11, 2008 2:07 PM EST up reply actions
no, it’s a 45 minute drive, but I only need a car for one day!
I live in fremont crazy!
by kevin on Dec 11, 2008 2:48 PM EST up reply actions
I think the ’he’s back’ stuff if valid if there was a reason for the fighter to be different or gone in previous fights. In the case of Swick, it’s referring to his performances since making the weight cut down to 170. It’s not surprising for him to be a different fighter in his first fight or two after changing weight classes. I think you also could have said that with Frank Mir after his motorcycle accident. He clearly came into his first couple fights out of shape and wasn’t the same fighter he was prior to the accident.
by GregC on Dec 11, 2008 1:45 PM EST up reply actions
ok, I won’t argue! “he’s back” to me would be like couture or fedor coming back after long lay offs…or corey hill after this long rehab he’ll be gong through! just because a guy has bad performances, doesn’t mean “he’s back,” is KG back now that he won with the celtics or was he never gone playing with a shit team? see my point.
john had some bad posts there for a while, but has been giving solid rumors and match ups, guess he’s back!
by kevin on Dec 11, 2008 1:57 PM EST up reply actions
A lot of people jumped ship, but I always remained a fan. He is a great guy and has the potential to do something special everytime out. I think he is riding high and is fighting to win again and not fighting not to lose.
by BNF on Dec 11, 2008 11:46 AM EST reply actions
how bout swick/karo??? I see that being not only a good fight, but a karo loss!
by kevin on Dec 11, 2008 1:00 PM EST up reply actions
that would be a good fight too…I personally can’t stand Karo or his cousin Manny
by McArthur on Dec 11, 2008 1:22 PM EST up reply actions
That would be a great matchup that could do a lot for both of their careers.
by GregC on Dec 11, 2008 2:36 PM EST up reply actions
swick always fights better when his head is shaved. he looks weird with hair. and that’s why sometimes he doesn’t do so good.
by jack on Dec 11, 2008 12:52 PM EST reply actions
he does bad because he looks weird? got it, let me write that one down!
by kevin on Dec 11, 2008 12:53 PM EST up reply actions
if that were true…Wandy should lose every fight he’s in…haha
by McArthur on Dec 11, 2008 1:25 PM EST up reply actions
That’s why i always watch the weigh ins before I make picks. To see hairdos, makes all the difference in the world.
by James S on Dec 11, 2008 1:27 PM EST up reply actions
ok, so bald=greatness
hair=not so great.
guida=not so great
wand=great
wow, it works so far…moron!
I look at the weigh in and see who’s more attractive, the more attractive fighter tends to lose! (sarcasm guys)
by kevin on Dec 11, 2008 1:31 PM EST up reply actions
Swick/Kos/Fitch not fighting each other is really stupid for a lack of a better word…3 of the top 10 WW in the UFC refuse to fight each other….I understand they are friends but it will hurt them in the end
by McArthur on Dec 11, 2008 1:28 PM EST reply actions
He KO’ed Goulet – a guy known for his super glass jaw – and now he is full of himself again? Ugh.
by William W. on Dec 11, 2008 1:33 PM EST reply actions
Not a big Swick fan. overrated and to big for welterweight. Has to cut to much weight in this division which will catch up to him when ever he fights a top ten welterweight. Mike should not talk about title until at least cracking the top ten. Guys I would like to see him fight.
Kos
Alves
Fitch
Sanchez
I really do not believe he could beat any of these fighters.
by the way Gsp would take this guy down and eat alive.
by EMM on Dec 13, 2008 8:50 AM EST reply actions
I’m back after beating a guy who’s no even close to top ten ha ha ha.
