Eddie Alvarez vs Shinya Aoki confirmed for Fields Dynamite!! on New Years Eve

The previously rumored bout between lightweight sensation Eddie Alvarez (15-1) and Japanese grappling phenom Shinya Aoki has been made official by DREAM for the Fields Dynamite!! supershow at the Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan, on December 31.

Alvarez was originally scheduled to face Aoki in the finals of the 2008 DREAM lightweight grand prix last July, but Alvarez was unable to continue after his match with Tatsuya Kawajiri and finals alternate Joachim Hansen stepped in to take his place.

Hansen would go on to upset the heavily-favored Aoki and bring home the belt.

Aoki would rebound from that loss -- just the third of his career -- and submit Todd Moore via neck crank at DREAM 6 in September. The "Tobikan Judan" is a dangerous submission fighter, winning 10 of his 18 fights by tap out.

He’ll have his hands full however against the surging Alvarez. In addition to winning five straight, the former Bodog Fight welterweight champion is a perfect 3-0 in DREAM, with a decision win over current grand prix champ "Hellboy" Hansen.

Talented striker versus talented grappler -- don’t expect any long-range jabs or boring lay ‘n pray in this one.

Fields Dynamite!! is the New Year’s Eve supershow featuring a smorgasbord of fighters under the umbrella of Fighting & Entertainment Group (FEG) coming together on one night to try and kick the crap out of each other.

Featuring participants from DREAM, K-1, K-1 MAX and K-1 Koshien, Fields Dynamite!! is going to have a wide variety of fighting styles and compelling match-ups, and could feature as many as 20 fights.
Thus far it appears as though FEG is holding up end of the bargain.

Here is the scheduled card to date:

Aoki will get pounded out the same way two of the other fighters in the tournament did. Aoki will not get a chance to submit Alvarez.

Alvarez needs to be afraid of aoki’s flying guard pull. I was extremely impressed with him against JZ who i think throws harder than Eddie. But i think Eddie is on a roll and probly gets the stoppage.

Cro Cop vs. Hong Man Choi is also being discussed for this event!

I think that Sergei vs. Alistar has been confirmed for this event as well.

I’m liking this fight card. Interesting to see how Alvarez does against Aoki’s rubber guard. Its sad that fighters of this caliber aren’t well known because the don’t fight in the UFC. Both could hold their own in the UFC.

Just got back from meeting eddie Alvarez….The guy is cool as hell! I am really good friends with one of his training artners so I had some pretty good access.

Eddie is extremely confident….He said he plans on SLAMING Aoki on his head!

Real cool dude, and he was training like an animal!

Eddie is going to straight up smash him. Here is the equation Dida+Hansen(who beat Aoki in Dream after losing to Eddie)+Kawajiri=Aoki getting stimped By the Philly kid. I realize that many haven’t purchased a card outside the UFC, so they don’t realize what a stud Alvarez is. Also, Aoki is all over the MMA message board so people this he is the man.Truth be told Eddie is a better fighter than him. That’s why this fight has been scheduled. He’s also ranked higher than Shinya in most world rankiings. In my opinion,,Eddie will not lose for a long time. He is going to covet the the respectof all of you. I’ve never seen a more tenatious fighter in my life. Then when you hear hi enterance music you’ll get it.Aoki is a great fighter, but not as dynamic as Alvarez.

Oh hell yes.

I’m picking Alvarez, but I think it would be great to see Sugar Britches win by submission.
