UFC Quick Quote: Vinny Magalhaes will knockout Ryan Bader at Ultimate Fighter 8 Finale

"On the ground in my wins, it took 19-25 seconds before I got the submission. I don’t think Bader can just hold me down for 15 minutes.... The last fight I had was six months ago. I’m not just jiu-jitsu. I think he sees it that he’s the better striker and he’ll try and keep it on his feet. That may have been the case during the show. But I’m not the same fighter. I’ve been training my boxing a lot and I think I’ll win by knockout. Bader thinks he can outstrike me, but he can’t."
-- Brazilian jiu-jitsu champion Vinny Magalhaes is apparently now a more well-rounded fighter thanks to his new training at XTreme Couture alongside Shawn Tompkins, Stephan Bonnar, Forrest Griffin, Randy Couture and others. And he intends to demonstrate his newfound skills on Ryan Bader when the two collide to determine The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 8 light heavyweight winner at the Finale on December 13. Bader, for his part in the Yahoo!Sports.com interview, indicates that he, too, wants to keep it standing -- the former Arizona State Wrestling star apparently wants no part of Magalhaes on the ground. Both fighters by all accounts intend to not rely on their respective strengths in the biggest fight of their careers ... interesting.

I think Vinny will win as well. I also think he is full of crap, and will be looking for a submission as soon as possible.

I got Bader….via decision!
There is a juicy rumor going around that Manhoef called out Kimbo backstage at this past weekends K1 event. People had to break them up, and Melvin wants to fight him!

Bader by TKO. This guy already thinks he’s a striker. Six months ago, he stood there petrified against Jules. Also i do think Bader can hold him down for 15 mins if he wants.

Darth Bader will just use the dark side to win this one…

Meh not too impressed.
Vinny was much smaller then and was not a pro world champion yet.

I have a question, I looked for an answer, but didn’t find one. what does vinny getting tooled by shields have to do with vinny/bader? to me it proves his jits isn’t as good as he may think!

I hope Bader wins.. I don’t even care if it’s a decision.. whatever.. I’m Brazilian.. and the way Vinny came off with Big NOg.. had me tight.
Vinny has BJJ.. I don’t question that.. but I don’t care.. I hope he gets smashed. I’m rooting against.. him.
He IMO disrespectd a legend.. on the show. I still have not digested what he said.
Team Red. Team Nog… all the way to the bank.

the last thing anyone wants to hear is NOG tell them “you, are my enemy now”
by McArthur on Dec 9, 2008 1:06 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
yeah vinny is a scumbag… pissing on efrains bed, bad mouthing nogueira, all that comes out of his mouth is how good he is, i hope he trips on the stairs to the cage and busts his two front teeth

Damn, right people, can’t wait to see his face get smashed.
by NameNotRequired on Dec 9, 2008 3:06 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
i agree, vinny’s probably the better fighter, but disrespectin Nog then lying to his face, not cool…Bader’s boring but i hope he smashes vinny.

McArthur.. yeah.. him and Wandy are the last two guys on this earth I want calling me their enemy. I loved when Nog approached him on it.. Vinny is a bitch ass.. fronting on the camera..
Guys.. I would love for Bader to end Vinny’s night the way he did Tom’s.. light’s out!
by PhilQNY on Dec 9, 2008 2:19 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
True that Phil! I hope Bader gets medieval on that ass!

I’ll be rooting for Vinicious in this fight. He would make for more of an exciting fighter than Bader. I mean, the majority of the people wanting Bader to win and the ones hanging from his nuts, are the SAME people that HATED CB Dollaway last season. Guess what? They wrestled at the same college, train MMA at the same gym, and share the same sponsors. He is a LESS talented LHW version of CB, but CB has better striking and better submissions.
Vinny and Nover all the way!!!!
I only see Vinny losing if Bader just throws one jab at a time and circles back away each and every time. I actually expect, or rather hope, that Vinny will jump and pull guard or even go for flying armbars and stuff. High reward by very low risk seeing that Bader wants no part of him on the ground. And I see Nover losing if hell freezes over.

Come on VM, how is looking scared and slowly cornering fighters until you can jump on them and pull make anyone an exciting fighter? Grapplers should fight like demian maia, Jacare or even better Xande. Not the garbage with we saw against Jules and Krzysztof.

NNR – how can you call a BJJ guy who finished all his fights by submission in the first round boring? What’s the difference between taking someone down and submitting them and pulling guard and submitting them? As far as I’m concerned it’s the same thing. Both techniques involve taking the fight to where you want it to be and finishing it there. I enjoy watching any fighter who’s constantly trying to finish the fight.

Brendan, I am a fan of most of the fighters coming up at Arizona Combat Sports. However, all of them with the exception of Jamie Varner, rEALLY need to work on thier striking, maybe like a new striking coach or something?
by ViolentMike on Dec 9, 2008 4:50 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
I just wanna say that TUF 8’s most exciting finishes were submissions by Vinny. I don’t think Bader has a Snowball’s chance… I like Bader and I am glad he is in but Vinny will pull gaurd and finish this wether he dominates the stand up or not. MMW. 1st round submission.
by billycarnage on Dec 9, 2008 5:39 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
GregC – his fights looked exciting because they were against guys who were clueless on the ground. Against someone that’s sub savy, it will turn into a stalled ground fight. Combined with the fact that you seem to agree with my analysis of his standup, this results in boring fights as he faces increasingly better fighters or very powerful wrestlers.
by NameNotRequired on Dec 9, 2008 6:18 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
I don’t know about KO, but submission for sure. All he has to do is pull gaurd and its over. I would so much rather see a 1 dimensional jits guy succeed over a 1 dimensional wrestler. Bader/Elliot = one of the worst fights ever. Vinny FTW!
by BNF on Dec 9, 2008 1:01 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
like i said, bader is a sober jt money or an oversized manville. vinny by sub rnd 1.
by b.w. on Dec 9, 2008 3:32 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
KO…I doubt it…but he will sub him if Bader lys in his guard for any period of time
by McArthur on Dec 9, 2008 1:01 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
I propose that should Vinnie get the win over Bader, his new nickname be Vinnie “Vidi Vici” Magalhaese.
by PW on Dec 9, 2008 1:03 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
True, after seeing Bader’s last night, i think Vinny will win convincingly.
by captainbilldude on Dec 9, 2008 1:13 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
The production of that u-Tube vid reminds me of the Affliction production…lol

Was there a 15-minute Spanish interlude, bizzare crowd shots, blown cameo’s of celebrities, missing cues and timing, and a lost, disinterested and nearly bored-to-sleep Michael Buffer? If so, I might watch the video.
by Graham on Dec 9, 2008 1:29 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
vinny’s standup suxs tremendously.. he had better pull guard
by shamo84 on Dec 9, 2008 1:19 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
So is Vinnie going to pull a “Gurgel”? Another jiu-jitsu fighter trying to prove that he’s well rounded when he could easily finish with his main set of skills. Good news for Bader then. Go Bader!
by Rizzo on Dec 9, 2008 1:22 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
Bader by knockout! Vins way to confient.. his stand up sucks
by Anthony on Dec 9, 2008 1:54 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
So basically, the jackasses from TUF 8 ended up at XTreme Couture?
by Jeff on Dec 9, 2008 2:38 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
Shawn Tompkins can definitely help out a fighter’s stand up that is for sure.

Vinny should out class Bader in every aspect, Vinny by a 10 sec sub
by Thebending on Dec 9, 2008 3:24 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
I hope vinny looses every fight he ever takes on UFC. And every brazilian should feel the same, and not just because what happened with Nog. He talked tons of shit about brazil, saying he hates being brazilian and that Brazil is a shit country
by Cristiano from Brazil on Dec 9, 2008 5:05 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
If he does stand up like an idiot he has the chance of getting KO’d….he needs to go to the ground to get the contract, don’t have any idea why he’s talking so much shit
by XxXFactor on Dec 9, 2008 5:21 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
i dont know who i want to win the least, the guy whos on his back faster than a $2 whore or a guy who likes to dry hump other half naked men for 15 minutes.
by Egads on Dec 9, 2008 7:37 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
Both guys have horrible satnd up and that’s where the entire fight will take place. I am not looking forward to this at all.
