Patrick Cote: 'I will beat' Anderson Silva in a rematch

Props: MMANews.com
Quoteworthy:
"I don’t think I won either of the first two rounds but going into the third we were where we wanted to be. Going into the third it was time to pick up the pace. We’ll never know what could have happened now. I was in very good condition and ready for five rounds…. He knew that I wasn’t scared of him. He landed big shots and I was there coming forward and smiling at him. I wasn’t in his head though so I don’t know what he was thinking … we’ll see what happens over the next six months. I know that if I get another shot at Anderson it will be more of the same only this time."
Former number one middleweight contender Patrick Cote is confident that if he earns a rematch with 185-pound kingpin Anderson Silva that he will win. The pair fought for a bizarre 10 minutes at UFC 90: "Silva vs. Cote" in October, which saw "The Spider" possessed with happy feet for two rounds, engaging only in short bursts and timed intervals. Cote then came out for the third round and lasted just 39 seconds — he collapsed in a heap when the meniscus in his knee gave way. "The Predator" will have surgery to repair his injury this month and hopes to be back inside the Octagon by June 2009.

Sorry Cote but he was toying with you the whole time

True story..I hope I never see Cote in there with Silva again.. keep it moving.

We will not see this rematch!!!!!!! Period end of Statement!!!!!!!!
by getrawbc on Dec 9, 2008 10:28 AM EST up reply actions
I hope you guys are right. GSP’s boyfriend is delusional! He was about as close to beating silva, and has the same chance in a rematch, as I have of banging beyonce and leaving my load on her face! for the record, I’m realistic, this means he has no chance!
by kevin on Dec 9, 2008 10:51 AM EST up reply actions
yea really… Patrick, we need to talk buddy
Can they do an episode of intervention for this guy. I mean, it’s pretty similar. He tried once and narrowly escaped without lifelong damage but did manage to damage his own body. Now he’s toying with the idea again??
by Crowls on Dec 9, 2008 11:35 AM EST up reply actions
Ya ur right, Silva was toying with Cote because thats what fighters do.. they toy with theyre opponents just to give them an opportunity to win (sarcasm because obviously thats the exact opposite mentality every fighter has). Think before you open your mouth.

GO AWAY Cote! Its rumored that the UFC is going to announce Anderson vs. Banha for UFC 95 in London…..point being I would much rather see Banha fight Silva then for the UFC to waste our time with another Cote fight. Hope this turns out to be true.
Down the line we will get to see the GRUDGE match between THiago Silva vs. Banha and thats going to be bad ass!
by john on Dec 9, 2008 2:38 PM EST up reply actions
He would have said the same thing if it had went to the 5th round.
“I don’t think I won any of the first four rounds but going into the fifth we were where we wanted to be.”
by NameNotRequired on Dec 9, 2008 3:35 PM EST up reply actions
Unless Anderson isn’t retiring after 5 fights or whatever it is.
I know a lot of people aren’t interested in it but I still want to Anderson him fight Okami.
by RobH86 on Dec 9, 2008 11:31 AM EST up reply actions
why give okami the exposure?
he could have kept going in their last fight!
by kevin on Dec 9, 2008 11:34 AM EST up reply actions
Because he’s the only credible fighter left at 185 to fight him in the UFC…Oh no wait, maybe Maia.
I would have thought Anderson would like to beat him properly given what happened the first time. Plus I feel a bit bad for Okami. He had the next title shot then got injured and Cote stepped in. Cote is not better than Okami and Okami got screwed out of a shot.
by RobH86 on Dec 9, 2008 11:49 AM EST up reply actions
Silva may not have won the Okami fight but still whooped him, how much will change. Silva should fight either the next in line or fight at LH, if the UFC feels Cote is still that guy then so be it.
by TysonLeeHarris on Dec 9, 2008 3:58 PM EST up reply actions
Okami is a waste of time. maia! Practice your striking, and how to avoid the Muay Thai clinch!

agreed Sliva looked bored…..nothing but big fights until his contract is up
by Robert on Dec 9, 2008 10:36 AM EST up reply actions
Bored? Cote was moking his moves, if Silva could of ended it he would have trust me.
by Nick Treb on Aug 12, 2009 2:08 PM EDT up reply actions
Why is there a need for that statement?
Other fighters have gone in underestimating their opponent and lost, why would this have been different. I think it would be an interesting rematch only to see if Spider could KO him in a round or if Cote can indeed hang with him.
Cote did take some shots that put Rich on his ass…. twice.
by Jas on Dec 9, 2008 10:57 AM EST up reply actions
Considering Anderson’s short amount of time left in the sport, I don’t see this rematch as a priority for anyone but Cote. There is a lot more money to be made with other fights.
by Nate on Dec 9, 2008 9:23 AM EST reply actions
Silva was confused hitting Cote with his power shots and not knocking Cote down, I think Cote will win a second fight cause Silva can’t figure him out and he will get clocked by Cote and go down.
by Bigmcmac on Dec 9, 2008 9:25 AM EST reply actions
Cote couldnt clock Silva in 2 rounds BEFORE his knee got jacked…what makes you think he will be able to the next time? I agree with someone else who said Silva was just toying with Cote…it was so blatenly obvious that was exactly what he was doing, Cote got lucky his knee blew out…
by Chadx23 on Dec 9, 2008 11:55 AM EST up reply actions
If you mean taking rounds one an two from Cote is not figureing him out then you dont have a clue.
How come Anderson doesnt finish someone within two rounds, people start saying " Cote would of had him, he took his best shots and couldnt put him away" or " he couldnt figure him out" Let Anderson catch Cote in the clinch and tell me that crap
by LOKIE on Dec 9, 2008 6:21 PM EST up reply actions
Really dont understand Cote mindset. How can being 2 rounds down going into the 3rd where you want to be? Losing another round means that you have got to finish and from the 1st two rounds didn’t see Cote getting even close enough to Silva to finish him. Must have got hit harder than we thought.
by UKmmaBOY on Dec 9, 2008 9:32 AM EST reply actions
See: Evans, Rashad vs. Liddell, Chuck
That said, Anderson TKO’s Cote in a re-match. Anderson’s too technical to not figure him out the next time around.
I actually do believe that Anderson was confused by Cote though. Andy reacted by “playing around” to try to get Cote off his game. I’m sure that wasn’t the gameplan going in, and you could tell by his entire corner screaming at him lol. Andy was winning the exchanges as he’s obviously the better striker, but Patrick was throwing his timing off. But how good is Anderson Silva on his feet? Patrick Cote has been the only one not to get rocked by Anderson, and Anderson still took both rounds.
by Pat on Dec 9, 2008 9:45 AM EST up reply actions
That’s what he was saying. Cote had already lost two, if he loses another round, that’s three. That means he has two rounds left and he would have to finish silva to win.
by Tulsa on Dec 9, 2008 10:43 AM EST up reply actions
Thanks Tulsa, I thought it was obvious too!
by UKmmaBOY on Dec 9, 2008 10:58 AM EST up reply actions
it was 39 sec into the 3rd round, he may have won it had his knee not have snapped, then he could still win 4 and 5 for the decision..
by Jizzo on Dec 9, 2008 12:35 PM EST up reply actions
Yeah sure. Because he looked so close to winning rounds 1 and 2. My point is IF you were looking for a points win WHY would your game plan be to lose the first 2 rounds? (…)
by UKmmaBOY on Dec 9, 2008 12:53 PM EST up reply actions
I agree completely, but lets just put this fight to rest. Regardless of what people say of Silva “underperforming” or whatever, Cote had no chance before, has no chance now and will never have a chance of beating him. Silva could be blindfolded and still kick his ass. Get over your position as the No 1 contender and go back to fighting others at a lower ranking where you belong.
by JJ on Dec 9, 2008 1:50 PM EST up reply actions
If this fight ever happens, lets spare everyone the pain of the headliner position on a PPV. Either it’s a co-headliner or on TV for free.
by A Lynch on Dec 9, 2008 9:51 AM EST reply actions
who is Anderson fighting next? Alves deserves a shot
by pug on Dec 9, 2008 9:53 AM EST reply actions
alves is a welterweight bro. but rumor is anderson will be back at LHW at ufc 95, possibly against luis cane.
by ActionJackson on Dec 9, 2008 9:58 AM EST up reply actions
but thiago is certainly big enough for middleweight if that’s what you were implying.
by ActionJackson on Dec 9, 2008 9:59 AM EST up reply actions
He’s too short to hang with Anderson. Must be a half foot height difference. More importantly the reach difference must be substantial.
by RobH86 on Dec 9, 2008 12:20 PM EST up reply actions
Reach advantages don’t count for sh*t. Check out the Pacman-Dela Hoya fight…Though that’s boxing, hehe!
by Syd[a.k.a "The Negation"] on Dec 9, 2008 11:34 PM EST up reply actions
I wouldn’t pay to see that fight…. Luis Cane doesn’t have anything close to a following yet and there are several other, more exciting matches that Anderson could take.
Before Silva retires, he should fight for the LHW & Welterweight titles. GSP vs Anderson Silva = too much for me to handle
by Scissor Sweep on Dec 9, 2008 10:09 AM EST up reply actions
I agree Scissor Sweep, the UFC just needs to build up some new LHW stars and match them up right so they get a couple wins in a row and a fan following before they’re gonna use them in big fights..
by RoB on Dec 9, 2008 10:15 AM EST up reply actions
anderson used to be a WW, hughes wanted to fight him back in the day.
by josh on Dec 9, 2008 11:33 AM EST up reply actions
so you base whether or not you’re going to order a PPV on popularity of the fighters rather than the quality of the fight? cane and silva would be an epic battle of bad mothertruckers.
by ActionJackson on Dec 9, 2008 1:53 PM EST up reply actions
whereas liddel and couture iv would take two of the most popular fighters in the sport and would produce an irrelevant and unnecessary main event
by ActionJackson on Dec 9, 2008 1:55 PM EST up reply actions
Banha is gonna be just like james Irvin, he’s gonna get KTFO!

Bisping is better then Cote at everything! Bisping should get the next shot after he detroys Fraklin or Hendersion.
by Tony on Dec 9, 2008 10:26 AM EST reply actions
Unfortunatley Tony is deadly serious. He loves Bisping so much its unhealthy.
by UKmmaBOY on Dec 9, 2008 11:06 AM EST up reply actions
It’s a little obsessive….. and very random
by Psyqo78®™ on Dec 9, 2008 11:16 AM EST up reply actions
Problem for Bisping is he will not destroy Franklin or Hendo, he is to sloppy. The guy has potential for improvement but as of now is to sloppy to test Silva even the least.
by TysonLeeHarris on Dec 9, 2008 4:06 PM EST up reply actions
Better yet, that fight would seriously quash all of the Bisping hype.
by Nate on Dec 9, 2008 10:57 AM EST up reply actions
The only one that has a snowballs chance in hell is Demian Maia.
by suck my nutz on Dec 9, 2008 11:22 AM EST reply actions
Maia has a great chance to submit Silva… he just needs to find a way to get him to the ground without have his head taken off. Ideally, I’d like to see Silva fight Melvin Manhoef, Cung Le or Yoshihiro Akiyama – all of which would bring very challenging styles to Silva
Manhoef – Devastating striker, very strong, very fast
Le – Very unorthodox, great striker, great wrestler
Akiyama – Very fast, great judo, powerful strikes, great submissions
by Scissor Sweep on Dec 9, 2008 11:48 AM EST up reply actions
Agree with both of you, I would give the shot to Maia, he’s the only one that would have a chance. Cung Le is good but not ready for Silva, in time maybe but as of now he holds to many disadvantages. Manhoef is not rounded enough, Akiyama has the best chance out of the 3.
by TysonLeeHarris on Dec 9, 2008 4:11 PM EST up reply actions
oh please. he has nothing to offer anderson. like i said in another post some time ago, hes just trying to stay relevant by saying something

remember when you kicked Anderson? HE injured you!
by Arubian on Dec 9, 2008 1:27 PM EST reply actions
Why??? I would love to see this fight again. I personally think cote did awesome until his knee snapped. There is a reason anderson did not knock him out. If he was toying with him then next fight will be unreal as he should be able to rock his brain right away. MMA man, anything can happen.
by What? on Dec 9, 2008 1:52 PM EST reply actions
Cote will beat Anderson if they meet again! I’m a big Silva fan and I hate to admit it, but, i truly believe Cote will KO silva in 1 or 2!

Cote never should have been in the same ring as Silva.
WAY OUTCLASSED, WAY TOO SLOW.

Didn’t your mother teach you about “if your dont have anything good to say…” or we’re you raised in a barn? You need to start acting a little more civil and grow up.
by Nick Treb on Aug 12, 2009 2:01 PM EDT up reply actions
I am personally sick and tired of hearing this guy speculate that he can beat him, that’s all he does, is speculate; there was no action to prove his speculation in the 2 rounds they did fight for and just as he said he was about to turn up the pressure if you look at Anderson past fights he was about to turn it up at any time. Personally I think Cote is a waist of Anderson’s time but I would like to see them fight again, just so Anderson can make him eat his words and maybe a side of teeth to go along.
by TysonLeeHarris on Dec 9, 2008 3:46 PM EST reply actions
i really dont want to see cote silva that bad but i do want to see cote fight some top level middleweights. maybe bisping, marquart, hendo, ect
anyone else here not that exited for silva to fight luiz cane. id much rather see him fight a top 5 lhw. c’mon jardine!!!
by COR on Dec 9, 2008 6:29 PM EST reply actions
There is talk of a Cruiser weight class that might be introduced. Silva could hold that belt also. heh.
Last I heard, Anderson walks around at 219, so whoever mentioned a ww fight, I don’t see that happening. Maybe a HW bout with Couture or some retirement fight like that for both of em. I just say they should give Silva all big top echelon fighters for the rest of his contract. Luiz Cane is a gimme. Ugh. I’d not pay to see that fight. Just watch the Anderson knockout reel the next day. ;)

by Nick Treb on Aug 12, 2009 2:10 PM EDT up reply actions
I don’t know why Cote has to prove anything to you fat lazy couch potatoes. Silva did not hurt him at all in that fight. Silva was winning the fight but we all know what Cote can do with one punch. So I can’t see why he doesn’t get more respect. I’m not saying he is a better fighter but he can take a lot of punishment as we have seen over and over. No one has really hit the spider does anybody know if he can withstand Cote’s power or mine for that matter? Maybe after GSP destroys Penn he will beat down Silva next……………..
by derek on Jan 30, 2009 5:41 PM EST reply actions
I’d love to see this fight again!!!!
Cote wasn’t being toyed with, if anything it was the other way around. Silva was doing his little dancing moves and Cote was moking him with moves of his own. He was doing a great job at messing with Andersons game plan and I think if he kept it up and started landing some punches he could have done some serious damage with his kind of power.
P.S. I couldn’t care less what anybody else has to say on here except Cote.
Easy on the insults to fellow fans keyboard cowboys..
