whats the over/under on both these guys being out of gas by the 3rd round?

by day1er on Dec 9, 2008 8:46 PM EST reply actions

The fight won’t make it to the 3rd round so don’t worry about it.

by tyler on Dec 9, 2008 8:51 PM EST up reply actions

Nog 2nd rd sleeeeeeeper

by newfie on Dec 9, 2008 9:51 PM EST up reply actions

If Mir doesn’t gas by the end of the first, i’ll admit he’s a much better fighter than i give him credit for. That said Nog by TKO.

by NameNotRequired on Dec 9, 2008 10:27 PM EST up reply actions

yeah i think nog win this via TKO

by JoW on Dec 9, 2008 11:25 PM EST up reply actions

by john on Dec 10, 2008 10:11 AM EST up reply actions

really i laugh at when ppl say that everyone kicks his ass for the first 10 mins then gets caught- ive seen all of nogs fights and he’s finished alot of guyz without damage, the guyz he faught that he took damage in where to beasts – cro cop, bob sapp- that being said i dont’ see mir’s stricking is better than nog’s so i don’t see him beating him up for 25 mins. WAR NOG

by ricky on Dec 9, 2008 10:56 PM EST up reply actions

Damn right ricky, only people who’ve seen his highlight reels say that. It’s always the same crap- too many wars, past his prime, blind eye, not healthy, sub’ers chance. People doubt him no matter what as opposed to say for example couture who can only win two fights at a time and always gets finished.

by NameNotRequired on Dec 9, 2008 11:53 PM EST up reply actions

Yeah Ricky, its always the same old crap, but come fight time Nog flat out wins. Nog is a winner, he will find a way to win. I cant believ how many people are giving mir a chance…I think its laughable!

Nog is a legend of the sport and a Legit top 3 Heavyweight (#2 if you ask me). Mir is a c level mma fighter who should be fighting guys like Eddie Sanchez who are more on his level!

by john on Dec 10, 2008 10:00 AM EST up reply actions

I totally agree up until the striking part. In my personal opinion both of these fighters are extremely well versed in the ground game but I can’t say either is a better striker than the other. I think if Mir is going to win, he’s gonna have to have his best cardio and beat the hell out of Nog. That guy is the toughest fighter around. BUT! It’s just my opinion. Should be a good one.

by Dan on Dec 10, 2008 12:56 AM EST up reply actions

good luck with that Mir. Or as Brock would say MUR.

by Curt on Dec 9, 2008 8:48 PM EST reply actions

Is Mir kidding, he is going to kick Nogs ass like everyone does for 5-10 minutes but just elongate that? Of all the people know for Gassing, he is at the top of the list. He’s a great fighter, but he is for sure not known for his cardio.

Will be a good fight, and I think it could easily go either way.

by sawyer1370 on Dec 9, 2008 9:09 PM EST reply actions

Ive got a feeling that someone is gonna get knocked out in this match up. Both amazing bjj guys. But i think someone is gonna get careless and one of them is gonna produce a KO

by See What Had Happend Was !!!! on Dec 9, 2008 9:24 PM EST reply actions

Is it possible that Mir could knock himself out? Maybe with a spinning back fist that hits his own face.

IMO, Mir has NO chance of KOing Nog. Nog could hurt Mir in the stand up conceivably but he won’t knock him out.

On the ground you at least have to give Mir a c-hairs chance of subbing Nog. The question is, can Mir do enough to pull a W if it goes the distance? I, for one, am curious just how good Mir’s sub defense is vs. Nog.

The closer this fight gets the more I want to see it, even though it appears Nog is an easy favorite. I hope Mir has a great fight, because I’d love to see a high end HW Jits battle.

Can your cardio keep up with your mouth?

by alex on Dec 9, 2008 9:46 PM EST reply actions

anybody else think Mir is a giant doucher after TUF?

by TCC on Dec 9, 2008 9:53 PM EST reply actions

I agree. I used to like Mir until I watched him on TUF. He was a total arrogant bitch that would say anything to be popular with his fighters. Real horses ass, I hope he gets knocked out.

by Boozer on Dec 10, 2008 12:02 AM EST up reply actions

no, he talked about it a few days ago, about how he was being a prick in front of the cameras on purpose just to get a rise out of people and hear them cry about it on the internet much like u

by keystone on Dec 9, 2008 9:57 PM EST reply actions

right…

by brendan on Dec 9, 2008 10:15 PM EST up reply actions

If Mir was acting like a prick for the camera’s he’s sure had a lot of practice at it.He must have taken lessons from Matt Hughes.

by tyler on Dec 9, 2008 10:41 PM EST up reply actions

Being a douche gets you no where. Tito, Baroni, Guillard, etc. The list goes on. I love hating those guys but I like it much better when they show respect and act professional. Mir back in the day was a big time douche, now I’m not so sure. Nog is an awesome fighter, coach, and guy. You can see it through out TUF.

by Dan on Dec 10, 2008 1:07 AM EST up reply actions

Great reference to Hughes! I hate that prick. And Mir did come accross as a douche.

by allamerican on Dec 10, 2008 7:32 AM EST up reply actions

I think it makes sense for Mir not to expect to be able to finish Nogueira, since no one else ever has. But even in great shape, I don’t think he can fight 5 rounds. I think he has a better chance submitting Nogueira than he does beating him in a decision. And even though I think he’s a tool, he is a smart guy and I’m not counting him out in this fight. Even if he loses this fight 4 times out of 5 or even 9 times out of 10, I still think there’s a chance he’ll pull something off.

by GregC on Dec 9, 2008 9:59 PM EST reply actions

theres always a chance… just not much of one in this fight

by brendan on Dec 9, 2008 10:16 PM EST up reply actions

On Tatame, Nog’s BJJ and wrestling coaches talk about tightening up his defense against leglocks, kneebars and such, which is the one place everyone seems to go to when it comes to a mir win prediction.

by NameNotRequired on Dec 9, 2008 10:34 PM EST up reply actions

For some reason i got Mir (Muur) pulling this one off!
NOG just didnt impress me at all in the Herring nor Sylvia fights!

by SoCalStunNa on Dec 9, 2008 10:51 PM EST reply actions

now i remember why i rarely post on this site

by keystone on Dec 9, 2008 10:55 PM EST up reply actions

What’d you remember?

by Syd[a.k.a "The Negation"] on Dec 9, 2008 11:02 PM EST up reply actions

Well then, don’t post…. you won’t be missed..

by Psyqo78®™ on Dec 9, 2008 11:20 PM EST up reply actions

Yeah I agree .. please … post less or not at all.

SoCalStuNa: I think you have a very valid point and if Nog doesnt come in prepared Mir will beat him. If we were talking about the old Mir here, the one that front kicked and submitted Williams, broke Sylvia’s arm, I dont think many would doubt.

I closer this fight gets, the more excited I get. Can’t wait for this card.

by DownUnder on Dec 9, 2008 11:52 PM EST up reply actions

I would love to see the old Frank Mir come into this fight. It would be insane. Frank Mir has great BJJ and that is why this fight is exciting for me. Two top botch BJJ guys going toe to toe for 5 rounds. I can’t wait.

by RyanHobbs on Dec 10, 2008 1:53 AM EST up reply actions

I agree that Nog’s performance against Herring and Sylvia were sub par. Anyone who disagrees needs to go back and rewatch both fights – Nog was within inches of being stopped both times. That kind of luck cannot continue forever.

by stevo on Dec 10, 2008 9:52 AM EST up reply actions

I don’t have anything against Mir, and in fact, I hope he beats Nog.

by J on Dec 10, 2008 3:49 AM EST reply actions

He just won’t beat Lesnar again, that’s for sure.

by J on Dec 10, 2008 3:54 AM EST up reply actions

Nog by whatever he wants!

by zheka. on Dec 10, 2008 6:52 AM EST reply actions

mir will win by ref stoppage due to a broken arm in the first!!! then he will grab another piece of gorilla leg for his trophy shelf and the unified belt. Even if nog wins, either way not a chance lesnar maintains possession of the belt. No way.
