UFC Quick Quote: Josh Koscheck knows judo

"I was originally preparing for Mr. Yoshida before I stepped up and took the Thiago fight. .. (It's) definitely a different style. He poses some interesting threats, but I definitely have a lot of good training partners at American Kickboxing Academy and I think I'll be ready. I'm a good wrestler, so I think our styles are going to make for an exciting fight.... Dave Camarillo is a judo guy and we are working on the judo throws. And I have San Jose State former judo coach who comes over. And there's a lot of judo guys at our gym -- Dave Camarillo teaches a judo class. So I've been doing judo for some time . ... I have no worries."

-- Josh Koscheck tells the USA Today that he is preparing for the tight judo game of Yoshiyuki Yoshida at UFC Fight Night 16: "Fight for the Troops" this Wednesday (December 10) at the Crown Coliseum in Fayetteville, North Carolina. The welterweight tilt is billed as the main event of the evening. It should be an interesting contrast in styles -- Koscheck is a decorated collegiate wrestling national champion.

Too bad he didn’t use them against alves, either alves had a good night and kos had a bad night or alves is just that good. I still want to see alves and fitch fight again but know it wouldn’t make sense as fitch just fought gsp and the winner would obviously get a title shot. Koskech is a good fight but he still has a long way to go.

too bad iv’e never seen kos use judo at all. he might be working on defending it, but i dont see him using it as a weapon.

by b.w. on Dec 7, 2008 12:57 PM EST up reply actions

Unless judo involves a double leg takedown and laying on someone……

by chefdaddy on Dec 7, 2008 3:24 PM EST up reply actions

Judo, like Judo know if I have a gun. Judo know if I have a knife. ect, ect…

by the_mexicutioner on Dec 7, 2008 3:31 PM EST up reply actions

haha, good one. I hope Kos pushes him into the cage. Yoshida might teach him a things about clinch fighting.

by NameNotRequired on Dec 7, 2008 3:37 PM EST up reply actions

This is just a dumb comment by Koschek. Sure he knows a lil Judo, but compared to Yoshida…..He DOESNT KNOW JUDO! Trust me on that! Yoshida is a Phenomenal Judoka. When they clinch, Kos will be going for a ride….He is going to get thrown to the mat for sure. Cant wait to see Kos having to fight off his bacl!

Rightfully so, kos is the favorite…..But I am picking Yoshida in an upset!

by john on Dec 7, 2008 4:50 PM EST up reply actions

I really hope Yoshida takes this. I also hope he doesn’t get boo’ed just because he isn’t the american fighter because he is super talented. Either way, I think this will be a fun fight for fans.

It will be interesting to see how Kos does with the judo. This fight may be the closest we get to seeing what could’ve been a really interesting match-up, Koscheck vs. Parisyan. If the problems are still heated with AKA and Kos doesn’t renew his contract with the UFC, it would be a shame for that one not to happen.

I hope Koscheck looses this fight. I want the goofball to go away.

by DJR on Dec 7, 2008 12:41 PM EST reply actions

this is probably his last fight in the ufc anyway according to franklin mcneil of mma live, kos has not signed the licensing agreement for the video game and he has no intentions of signing meaning he will be released

by matt on Dec 7, 2008 12:42 PM EST up reply actions

i might actually become a koscheck fan if thats the case… someone actually standing up for themself! either way though im kinda hoping for a zenko submission!

by brendan on Dec 7, 2008 1:30 PM EST up reply actions

MATT, I guess He will sign the agreement. The Fitch story can be a lesson for all these guys.I like KOS and I would be really disappointed if the UFC releases him.He is absolutely different fighter now, include his attitude.

by pamirec on Dec 7, 2008 12:47 PM EST reply actions

i hope he signs it, he is a top welterweight and has turned into a exciting fighter. Also he is one of my favorite fighters so obviously i would want him in the ufc and the video game, but i dont see him siging this deal

by matt on Dec 7, 2008 1:17 PM EST up reply actions

Ya koscheck is a top 5 welter weight for sure and it would suck if he left the ufc, I still like watching him fight.

by nathan on Dec 7, 2008 12:50 PM EST reply actions

good for him..

by shamo84 on Dec 7, 2008 12:57 PM EST reply actions

He supposedly isn’t going to be signing that agreement Fitch didnt want to sign so who knows how long he will be around. Kind of thinks a little too much of him self, “before I stepped up.”

by the_mexicutioner on Dec 7, 2008 1:02 PM EST reply actions

he did step up, what is he suppose to say?

by matt on Dec 7, 2008 1:18 PM EST up reply actions

What does that mean, this guy is nothing but professional when it comes to fighting, who else would step up to fight thiago alves on two weeks notice then fight again in less than two months?

I think the fact that your name is in all capitals and you’ve made the same comment 4 times in the same thread says everything we need to know.
