Wheres John at?

Did you see Semtex destroy John Alessio at MFC? Somthing that Alves couldn’t do. Semtex has serious power, wish he’d just get more of a ground game.

Didn’t he turn down a UFC contract before?

by Nick J on Dec 6, 2008 10:08 AM EST up reply actions

PS Sorry i know its off subject mania, but thought MFC had quite a good event and might get a thread.

by Nick J on Dec 6, 2008 10:10 AM EST up reply actions

nickj. i watched last night as well. it was a good event. (i posted about it on the mir/nog thread). i thought daley looked pretty good as well and think he would make a nice addition to the wec or strikeforce. he still needs to work on his takedown defense, he was grabbing the ropes way too much and he missed weight by 4lbs, but other than that he looke good and alessio is no pushover.

by b.w. on Dec 6, 2008 10:53 AM EST up reply actions

NIck J: THanks foir the heads up. I missed the event but as you know SEmtex is one of my favorite young prospects in all of mma.

2 years from now, he is going to be 1 helluva mma fighter.

I would love to see SEmtex vs. alves!

by john on Dec 6, 2008 11:14 AM EST up reply actions

Yeah Daley definatly needs work, in his defence he hasn’t fought too much in a ring before and i think the rope grabbing was just down to inexperience and instinct.

Agree that he would make an excellent addition to strikeforce or WEC. I honestly believe he has got a good chance of upsetting a lot of the top teir welterweights in the world. Admittedly he was disapointing against sheilds but still.

No real excuse for the weight issue, think was just down to poor planning, know for a fact he was still in the UK Monday walking around heavy (a friend of mine spars with him) he didn’t give himself enough time for the cut if you include the flight and jetlag issues.

Re the boxing tonight, i’ve got De La Hoya. Just too big and strong for Pac Man. Its gonna be good tho.

Pacquiao hasn’t got the power to stop Oscar and the longer it goes on the size difference is going to wear him down. UD Oscar.

No worries John, i remember you being a Semtex fan.

by Nick J on Dec 6, 2008 11:25 AM EST up reply actions

THanks man!

I would really like to see Pac man win. Its been funny listening to Freddie Roach bust on Oscar for being gun shy and stuff like that! I hope Pac puts on a clinic!

by john on Dec 6, 2008 11:40 AM EST up reply actions

i think the whole freddie roach/oscar fued is a HOAX! wait and see, after the fight they will kiss and make up and i would’nt be surprised to see freddie corner oscar again if he doesn’t retire.

Man, that semtex KO was awesome especially that last two punches. I first thought he missed but talk about perfect shots behind the ear.

by NameNotRequired on Dec 6, 2008 6:43 PM EST up reply actions

Not to take anything away from Semtex, but it’s only John Alessio.
Just some info for you boxing fans: If you don’t feel like paying for the De La Hoya/Paquiao fight tonight, channelsurfing.net has it listed to be streamed tonight.

by the_mexicutioner on Dec 6, 2008 10:13 AM EST up reply actions

i quit paying $50 for 1 boxing match(and 2 or 3 stinkers) a long time ago. channelsurfing is a blessing. :)

Thanks Mex. Hey guys, I have never been into boxing but have tried. Am going to try again with this fight tonight. Anybody with some knowledge care to break this one down for me?

by chefdaddy on Dec 6, 2008 10:55 AM EST up reply actions

this fight is interesting mainly b/c of the size differential. manny is definetly at the top of his game right now and oscar has faded somewhat, but oscar has been fighting at 147-154 for a very long time and manny has had just 1 fight at 135 and started his career at 112! i belive(junior bantam-weight. oscar has the size, reach and power advantage imo. manny has the speed and better stamina advantage. i think manny’s best chance at winning this fight would be to get inside, do as much damage as quickly as possible, and then get out just as quickly. that should be his fightplan for the whole fight, in and out as quickly as possible (insert joke). oscar has 1 of the best chins in boxing and has only been koed once by benard hopkins, who was a much bigger and stronger fighter than oscar (sound familiar?). oscar’s best chance of winning will be from him using his jab, and outmuscle manny. at the weigh ins manny weighed in at 142 and oscar weighed in at 145, but i can see oscar weighing 160 come fight time and manny at about 145, so i think there will be a 15lb weight advantage for oscar. to be honest CHEF, this could be a great fight, it could be a boring fight(like oscar/pbf)or it could be a mismatch. i think it will be a good fight and oscar will win by late rnd stoppage.

by b.w. on Dec 6, 2008 11:31 AM EST up reply actions

Good summary BW. But you pointed out that B-HOP KO’d Oscar but if you remember that was from a well placed liver shot not on the chin. Oscar has got an iron Jaw and no featherweight is going to make the slightest dent.

It comes down to the question if Pac Man can out hussle and outwork (see Hopkins Calzaghe) Oscar for a decision, i don’t think he can.

Last time i tryed watching boxing on ChannelSurfing.net they showed all the way up to the main event —Really pissed me off

by DBG on Dec 6, 2008 11:57 AM EST up reply actions

NICK-J. thats a good point that i left out. it was a well placed liver shot and oscar was holding his own up until then. iv’e seen oscar get knocked down, but i cant remember him ever being hurt badly. i talked about the weigh-ins, i also think oscar only weighed in at 145 to prove a point, that there was not a big size advantage for him, something he was critisized heavily for when he 1rst announced this fight. come fight time, there will be imo. manny turned down the 1rst time it was offered to him b/c of the size difference, but changed his mind when oscar offered him 11 million. he is a hand-picked opponent for oscar. manny is all heart and even though he is a great boxer, he always comes out swinging and goes to war. i think he mighyt try and use his speed and try and out box oscar at 1rst, but as soon as he gets hit with a hard punch, he will revert back to his old ways.

thanks for the breakdown guys, I’m going to try to give it one more shot.

by Amir on Dec 6, 2008 8:29 AM EST reply actions

Is it just me, or does the “11 minute UFC workout” look an awful lot like the Sean Sherk workout?

this made me laugh. you guys take yourselves too seriously, this is free promotion to women. even if they don’t chose to watch mma, they can atleast not hate it.

I saw sean sherk and bj penn. I think the 3rd guy back MIGHT be Kenny Florians brother/trainer. Who was the last clown there with the cut-off sleves?
