MMA Quick Quote: Tim Sylvia wants to fight Ken Shamrock

"I love to fight and a fight’s a fight. He’s a Hall of Famer. He’s a legend. To progress your career you always have to fight somebody like that. I don’t know if he’s a stepping stone or anything, but he’s been on some of the same cards I’ve been on and he’s been highlighted over me, so I want to let people that I am better than this guy and there’s no reason he should have been highlighted over me."

-- Former UFC heavyweight champion Tim Sylvia talks about his desire to fight Ken Shamrock in a recent interview with Sherdog.com. "The Maine-iac" indicates that the bout was in the works for a small event to be held on December 20; however, the match was "postponed" until sometime in February. On the other hand, Shamrock representatives tell a different story, saying that the fight was offered and rejected. Sylvia has not competed since getting thrashed in 36 seconds by Fedor Emelianenko at Affliction: "Banned" back in July. Shamrock, of course, was supposed to fight Kimbo Slice on the now infamous Elite XC: "Heat" main event before pulling out literally hours before showtime because of a cut sustained blowing off some steam. It was a total disaster for both Elite XC and Shamrock. Before a fight between Sylvia and Shamrock materializes (if at all), "Big Tim" has his sights set on competing in Japan at either K-1/Dream (Dec. 31) or Sengoku (Jan.4).

Seriously!

Is Timmy for real on this one?

HOW, oh HOW, do you go from fighting against Fedor to calling out Ken Shamrock. LOL – Timmy never ceases to amaze.

The largest HW ranked in the Top 10 is calling out a near-50 year old LHW that hasn’t had a win in years and has been very easily KO’d in pretty much each of his fights over the past 6 years or so. Fighting Ken Shamrock may progress the career of a 20 year old fighter, but NOT someone that held the UFC HW title only a year and a half ago.

I sincerely hope that this is a joke that someone is playing on Timmy, because I HONESTLY couldn’t think of a worse fighter for someone to call out in order to claim legitimacy.

Yep theres not much can be said about this one other than what you’ve mentioned mike.

You can only hope that he has been offered a big payday and is just looking for easy money.

Seriously i train with guys who would beat Shamrock, what idiots want this fight?

The ViolentoNE strikes again! Great post VM! U actually dignified this crack-head-ish Tim sylvia with a serius response…YOu are a better man than I am because I dont know what to say about this mess!

I hope K-1 can put together the long awaited fight between Sylvia and LeBanner…Best case scenario!

Another good fight would be Sylvia vs. Bigfoot at Sengoku or Sudoku…whatever u call that organization!

by john on Dec 2, 2008 10:42 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

The tim Sylvia fight that I have wanted to see for the longest time is sylvia vs. Semmy Shilt! I am sick of seeing Tim win off of sheer size. I would like to see him pick on someone his own size for a change….Shilt is the perfect opponent. THey can even make it a K-1 rules match because Tim refuses to use all other aspects of mma anyway. All he uses is punches and an occasional kick.

Who knows, we might get to see Big tim vs. Kimbo! LMAO

Tim any of the options I have listed would do (minus Kimbo)…just dont disgrace yourself to a Ken Shamrock fight! Dont do it Tim, thats low even for you!

I wouldnt mind seeing Sylvia vs. Cro Cop

by john on Dec 2, 2008 11:24 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I’m fairly confident Semmy would put a good old beatdown on Tim. It says recent interview, maybe Mania made a typo, maybe it should read in an ancient interview lol. Nope, that one doesn’t really work either. Tim you muppet.

I wouldn’t mind seeing Sylvia vs Overeem

by roy on Dec 2, 2008 11:56 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I agree Roy, thats why I want to see it!

oDAmn: Alistar would be a Great opponent but I didnt mention him because he is already said to be fighting Sergei Kharitonov at K-1 Dynamite!

by john on Dec 2, 2008 1:10 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Sylvia-Lebanner at Dynamite would be awesome k-1 style. Sylvia is always pumping his chest out claiming to be better than J. Let’s make that happen instead of fighting grandma shammy. Also when was Alistair-Sergei announced?

by PhilQNY on Dec 2, 2008 11:02 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Lmao!

These would make for good opponents for Sylvia to fight in Japan:

Jerome LeBanner (k-1 rules)
Semmy shilt (k-1 rules)
Antonio BigFoot Silva (in Sengoku)
Kimbo (worst case scenario)

Who would u guys like to see Tim face in Japan?

by john on Dec 2, 2008 11:24 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Overeem

by RobH86 on Dec 2, 2008 11:29 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I’d like to see Sylvia fight Mark Hunt.

by Space on Dec 2, 2008 12:23 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

John, i like the Bigfoot fight and that could happen now he has disregarded his ban to fight in Japan.

(I’m a poet and i didn’t know it)

Mark Hunt would be nice but i doubt it would come about, would be interesting to see if Hunts chin could take Timmys power. Like him or not he has got heavy hands.

by Nick J on Dec 2, 2008 12:43 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I forgot all about Hunt….I think Hunt would beat the crap out of Tim and I would love to see it!

Alistar is unrealistic because he is already fighting Sergei at the same event!~

Real possible options for Tim are:

Bigfoot in Sudoku LMAO
LeBanner
Hunt
shilt
Cro Cop

by DBG on Dec 4, 2008 1:01 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

My thoughts exactly. It makes absolutely zero sense. Really really strange. By calling out Ken it’s like saying I’m a pretty bad fighter with very little ambition. Sure a win over Ken would be nice for the record…if you fought him about 10-12 years ago. I’m baffled.

by RobH86 on Dec 2, 2008 11:24 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

tim is BROKEN Mentally! I dont think he even wants to face anyone decent any more. I think right now he is looking to maximize his pay while taking the easiest fights possible! Put a fork in him, He is done!

by john on Dec 2, 2008 11:27 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Yep could be it. It’s what happens to Fedor’s opponents haha. They’re all left a shell of their former selves.

Seriously though, he must be almost done with the fighting lark, just wants to pick up the paycheck.

I’d like to see Fedor fight Overeem, then whomever the UFC champ is at the time, Lesnar or Nog in the octagon, no more ring shit!

Fedor would toss Alistar’s bitch ass on his head! Alistar’s basic white belt level ground game that includesa guilotine and a Kimura is no match for King FEDOR!~!~!!!!

I agree hw would beat Overeem, but other than Barnett, who else is there outside the UFC?

by 1-0 via Arm Triangle on Dec 2, 2008 9:06 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I hate to break it to you but Fedor can find plenty of fights outside the UFC. So don’t expect him to fight for them ever, because I don’t think he’ll ever stop competing in Sambo or fighting in Japan which he’d have to do in the UFC.He’s not going to sign an exclusive contract banning him from competing in those events.Nor should he,also a fight with Overeem would be sick and Barnett even better.

For Category of Most Meteoric Fall From Grace:

I nominate Tim Sylvia

Realy???? what is expecting to gain here? Noteriety with casual fans who know Shamrock’s name? I don’t get it. Biggest waste of time ever. I suppose it’s better than if Fedor called out Shamrock.

by Crowls on Dec 2, 2008 11:33 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

The worst part of all this is if Ken can get him to the ground, he would win this fight… and that would mean the end of Big Tim

by 1-0 via Arm Triangle on Dec 2, 2008 3:23 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

HA!!! everyone insulted Kimbo when the organization forced Kimbo to fight Shamrock and everyone was on his case- TIM is actually calling him out a guy who shouldn’t even be fighting no more cuz its at a point where he can get killed. way to win your fans over Tim- they should bring Cro cop to Afflication that would be cool he can still kick a couple ppl’s heads out… i say cro cop vs tim- or even better if they can bring Alexander E. against tim.. have him lose to both brothers.

Dana White is the joke the guy gets away with telling lies to the news media, because if you do ask him hard questions he has your credentials pulled from UFC events. Not to mention when he has those stupid conference calls if he doesn’t think your going to kiss the UFC’s ass your not taking part. The only bigger joke than him are the people who are actually fans of a company president. That’s laughable.

Meh…it’s not as if Tim only fights once a year or something. If he wants to punch Shamrock out in some small show while he’s waiting for a bigger promo to come knocking, then so be it. It’s not like we would be asked to pay $49.95 to watch it or anything. Tim likes to fight alot, so I see no big deal with him taking this fight. I would imagine Shamrock would never fight Tim anyway….no money in that.

If it happens, Tim will KO Shamrock in 30 seconds.

Ken: Can I have its definition first please, and could you use it in a sentence?

Host: Yes certainly, it is a neurological disorder caused by multiple dazing blows to the head which may affect boxers, or wrestlers and mma competitors such as Ken Shamrock.

In a sentence: Hey doesn’t the world’s most senile man Ken Shamrock seem a little punch drunk these days.

2nd fav:

“Ninety percent of the game is half mental.”

What?! Does he mean 45% of the game is half mental or did he just not realise what he was saying. Anyways I kind of get what he’s trying to say but it came out wrong. Still, it’s funny.

Guys, I mean can Tim Sylvia get any lamer at this point. I don’t get how in his twisted akward mind he still considers himself one of the best. This fight would suck so bad it should be burried at the bottom of a King of the Cage under card. Why is Tim such a douche? He needs to stop trying so hard. I can’t stand him!

by Euro_MMA on Dec 2, 2008 10:42 AM EST reply actions   0 recs

I agree on most of that except for the “He needs to stop trying so hard”. If anything he should definatley be trying harder, cause a fight with Ken Shamrock at this point definatley isn’t even trying at all.

Tim is a freaking liar. We all know he doesn’t want to fight Ken because he’s a Hall of Fame fighter. Sylvia wants to fight Ken because a fight between him and Ken would sell. What better for Tim than a KO win and a fat paycheck. Fighting Ken wouldn’t help Sylvia move up in rank even if Sylvia KO’d him. Tell the truth, Sylvia, you’re just trying to fatten up your 401k before retirement!

by joey on Dec 2, 2008 10:56 AM EST reply actions   0 recs

It looks like Tim is facing the fact that he is washed up. He only won 1 fight in his last 4 and that was against a guy who can’t seem to win a fight himself (Vera). He got owned in 2 of those fights and Nog owned him once it hit the ground. With Shammy’s record of getting KOed, he probably thinks it is an easy win, which it should be, but you never know if Ken somehow gets him to the ground. Not a very smart fight on Tim’s part, if he wins he gains very little and is he loses it would be to what many concider the most washed up fighter in the game.

by Gord on Dec 2, 2008 11:07 AM EST reply actions   0 recs

Tim’s never come to grips with why some guys sell tickets and some guys (him) don’t. Being a better fighter (and these days who isn’t a better fighter than Ken Shamrock?) doesn’t equal being a better box office or ppv draw. Ken was “featured” over you because he knows how to make people want to pay to see him fight. Tim makes people want to pay to NOT see him fight.

Timmy should line up a fight with hell boy, moving up the ranks, next is the incredible hulk 1 thru 6, a tag team event with spider man 1 thru 7 and bat man 1 thru 8.5,you get my drift, GO INTO CARTOONS YOU COMPLETE DUFUS.

This is stupid, if this fight ever happen I hope Ken knocks him out even though I can stand either one of them.

you know your career is on the way down when you get released from the UFC-lose to Fedor and now you want to fight Shamrock; although; I actually think this fight would go the distance; I like underdogs and fighters that have the odds stacked against them; interesting; interesting; I am curious about Jon jones fighting Stepahn Bonner; I wonder who is going to win; Jon Jones is excelling fast in MMA and Stephan Bonner how can you not route for him his fight with Forrest (1) was awesome. I hope he comes back and does well.

I don’t know if he’s a stepping stone or anything, but he’s been on some of the same cards I’ve been on and he’s been highlighted over me, so I want to let people that I am better than this guy and there’s no reason he should have been highlighted over me.

Tim sounds really insecure. He’s had a great career, including a reign as UFC HW champion. And he’s still got years of fighting ahead of him.

Why is Tim so focused on who’s getting headlined over him?

by Dissenter on Dec 2, 2008 1:34 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

He’s not, you have to look at it this way, Sylvia hasn’t KO’d an opponent in years, his recent victories are lack luster decisions, he wants to be on the winning end of another highlight reel, but picking a fight with Shamrock just isn’t gonna garner any respect.

I actually think you are going to see SYLVIA vs WERDUM over in Japan. Hence this fight didnt take place as soon as Facbricio was released ..

Mania: can you please investigate.

This big dumb Duffy bastard, Gina Carano gets highlighted over Tim too maybe he should fight her too, big for nothing over grown dork

by will on Dec 2, 2008 2:12 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Nah, he’s calling out Ken instead of Carano because she’s actually a threat. Tim won’t take a fight with her knowing he could lose.

This is Tim looking for a easy payday and an easy win, since he has lost his last 2 and the one before that was a snooze fest and the one before that was a loss and the one before that was another snoozer fest and on and on and on

Lol is this what your career has come too tim, picking a fight with shamrock thats just sad.

by LG on Dec 2, 2008 3:24 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Tim Sylvia’s a goof. What kind of guy wants to fight Ken Shamrock only because Ken still has more star power to headline a card than him. Timmy your a boring fighter, and boring fighters that lose dont headline cards. At least shamrock gives us knockouts when he fights.

The only reason Ken was featured ove Tim is because Ken fought Tito

by McArthur on Dec 2, 2008 4:25 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Ken was also in the main event of UFC 48.The same event where Sylvia fought Mir.

Yeah and Tim got his arm broken… so what is he crying about?

by 1-0 via Arm Triangle on Dec 2, 2008 9:13 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Tim should fight Zulu, they share things in common.

by GSPRush on Dec 2, 2008 6:24 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Sounds like somebody’s looking for an easy payday! The sad thing is, Ken seems to have been looking for paydays too! So, one of the organizations may end up actually pitching this “circus tent!” If so, I will be rooting for Ken! May be he’ll take a couple Viagras before the fight, and catch Timmie with a stiff jab!!!

Timmeh is a douche. He just wants to get a win against a name, so he picked the most washed up fighter he could find. Timmehs fights shouldn’t even be shown on the main card.

I can’t wait to see this.

Tim Tool Time Sylvia… you’ve outdone yourself. Get a life. It’s official… you desperately need one. Next he’s gonna be calling out Matt Hughes.
