This should be a very entertaining fight for as long as it lasts. TO be Honest I expect Stephan to completely outclass him. HIs technical boxing will enable him to pick apart the wild Jon Jones, and if it hits the mat its OVER! Stephan is a very under rated grappler and would only need 2 minutes on the ground to submit this kid. HOwever, this will be a very entertaining fight!
I look forward to betting some change on Bonnar.

you know whats weird, Bonnar is a very technical fighter, a well spoken nice guy, but I’ve never become a fan! I enjoy watching him fight, but never was like “wow, I’m gonna cheer for this guy!”
by kevin on Dec 2, 2008 11:36 AM EST up reply actions 0 recs
I cheer for him because I think he got robbed out of being the 1st TUF winner. I still believe Stephan won the 1st fight…thats why I dont like Forrest…He has been getting the UFC “silver spoon” since the beginning!~

By that logic you should also cheer for Keith Jardine and dislike Stephan somewhat because Jardine got robbed in a decision against him. And I have watched the fight between Forrest and Stephan at least a dozen times and I still think Forrest won the fight, albeit by a very narrow margin. The UFC did also give Stephan a rematch with Forrest where he could have shown himself to be the better fighter, but Forrest won that one even more convincingly.

John, how the hell can a guy with your vast knowledge of the sport not like a fighter because of the judges scoring?

I wanna see Bones win. The rate at which this kid has progressed is insane. I wanna see him burst onto the LHW scene like shogun did, he has the skills. It won’t be as amazing without a tourney but awesome still.

My bad boys, I am sorry if I do not like fighters that cant finish fights. Has Forrest ever ended a fight by any other method besides a rear naked choke? THats his only hope! I recognize his heart, work ethic and determination, but I like guys that have the ability to end fights at any time….. I dont see that in Forrest, there for I dont like him.
I do think he is great at executing Randy’s gameplans, but I dont like the guy and I rarely look forward to seeing him fight.
I am being a Hater, I know, at least I can admit it!
Feel free to “Hi Hater” me all you guys want…in this case I deserve it.
Im not afraid to Man up!

hi hater~ lol
i should be saying the same thing to myself.
i agree and am guilty for hating on forrest for the same
reasons john does..
that along with how boring of a fighter forrest has become~

Now I don’t agree with either of you, but I respect that you’re both open with why you feel that way. For the record, Forrest has finished 10 of his 16 wins, even though he’s only finished 3 of his 7 UFC wins. But other than the fight against Hector Ramirez, when has Forrest been in a boring fight?
by GregC on Dec 2, 2008 5:53 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Am I supposed to be impressed that Forrest finished Bill Mahood?
There is no reason that a guy as big as Forrest fighting smaller men at 205 lbs cant knock someone out or at least TKO someone….
Forrest “Judges Decision” Griffin!

This guy seems real down to earth. I didnt see his fight in UFC, but I remember hearing someone on sherdog saying Jon Jones was very impressive. Still kinda leaning towards Stephan Bonnar, but I wouldnt mind seeing some new, fresh, young and hungry fighter step into the ranks.

im gonna look fwd to this fight, this jon jones character looks good in the vid and his a bit of a natural judging by his fight history. might have a little wager on this one, never rated bonner that highly tbh.

Bonner is gonna tool him, I mean anything can happen, but I don’t see this kid winning.

10 months of training MMA will not be nearly enough to beat a guy like Bonnar. The UFC must just be trying to get Bonnar’s name back out there on the biggest card ever, with the suspension and the injury he has been out a lot. With that said, this is the opportunity of a lifetime for the rookie.

True that, he’s one flash ko away from instant fame

Bonnar will have no answer for Jones’s wrestling and won’t be able to stop his takedowns.Bonnar is one of the most overrated fighters in MMA all because of the first Forrest fight.Jones is a very good prospect Bonnar is an average fighter.Jones gets an easy decision.
by Lincoln on Dec 2, 2008 11:32 AM EST reply actions 0 recs
Have you seen Jones fight? He’s so flat footed, Bonnars gonna pick him apart.
by O damn he got caught on Dec 2, 2008 11:46 AM EST up reply actions 0 recs
are you crazy???
bonnar has amazing bjj and pretty damn good stand-up. his last fights were great and i can’t wait for his return. jon jones is wild but to see he will win an easy decision is just retarded and not @ all logical. that said, i see bonnar subbing him in the first. he has learned to use his abilities to his advantage. he will out strike jones and when jones treis to take him down he will either sprawl our take bottom and sub him no problem

Are you kidding someone thinks Jones is going to win and you don’t so their opinion is “retarded”! Where do you get the balls!

did you forget that Bonner trains at Xtreme Couture,

So what. Bonnar’s defensive wrestling sucks. If you don’t believe me watch his fight with Rashad Evans.

I feel like Lincoln made this post after the fight because he was 100% spot on. Jones has a bright future in the UFC.

relaxe.. Bonnar is gonna get injured before the fight, the steroid use and pushing his body through injuries has messed up his career..

I have been wanting to see this kid fight some stiffer competition.

How did the interviewer not know Jones had already fought in the UFC? Seems like pretty basic background info if you’re going to interview a guy.

John, I believe Forrest finished the Australian Elvis and Monson, and the guy that broke his arm and the new WEC middleweight champion, just off the top of my head
by Don on Dec 2, 2008 5:04 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
In the UFC Forrest has only finished:
Bill “who?” Mahood
Elvis “punching Dummy gatekeeper” Sinosic
and
Shogun “the peg legged version”
NOT Impressed!

Jon Jones seems like a pretty cool and down to earth guy. That’s pretty cool that he’s not some cocky Melvin Guillard type.
by RyanHobbs on Dec 2, 2008 5:21 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
There are many cocky fighters. Why would you compare him to Guillard specifically?
by Jon on Dec 2, 2008 7:11 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
minus the guillard’s yellow hair, i can’t tell em apart

I think you get a free pack of Black & Milds when you buy a pair of Lugz, since everyone I see wearing Lugz is also smoking a Black & Mild.

Haha i love all you Stephan lovers who look at the numbers and the fact that Jones is young and only has one UFC fight under his belt and you automatically give it to Bonnar. I hope you put big money on Bonnar and get dissappointed. Jones is a very quick learner, very quick on his feet and heavy handed. Bonnar is a has been who instead of training during recovery made an awful movie. Jones has been training Muay Thai since his last fight and will jump on the scene in a big way January 31st. i’ll be back Feb 1st to laugh at you Bonnar bums

UFC 94 was my first UFC live experience. I didn’t know of Jon Jones before this UFC event. I happened to google him before coincidently meeting him in the Studio Cafe in the MGM Grand hotel prior to his fight. He was a very down to earth guy and low key. I told my girl that I thought he was the guy I just looked up online, but she didn’t think so (even though she never saw his picture before, but only because he seemed pretty low key and short in his seat.) When he stood up, she was then believed that he could’ve been a ufc fighter because of his height (especially later when standing next to her). He was a real friendly guy when we spoke. After that encounter, I was going to root for him, but was worried because Jon was the underdog in the fight w/ Stephan Bonnar.
During the fight, I was surprised with what came out of the first round. Great use of kicks in and momentum usage w/ the grapples. I liked his style. I sat 8th row away from the ring, so I tried to show my support by constantly yelling out his name when they were rolling around in the later rounds. Whether or not he was able to hear me or blocked out noises outside the octagon, I dont’ know, but I wanted him to have mental support if he were able to hear. He did excellent job regardless. I’m a big fan of his and I believe he can be a great fighter at his current young age. JON JONESSS~!!
