UFC 93 fight card bouts confirmed for Dublin Jan. 17 (Update)

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) today confirmed several bouts for its first-ever event in Dublin, Ireland, on January 17, 2009.
UFC 93: "Henderson vs. Franklin," which will take place at The O2, features the highly anticipated light heavyweight clash between former UFC middleweight champion Rich Franklin and former Pride FC dual welterweight and middleweight champion Dan Henderson.
In the co main event of the pay-per-view (PPV) event, Mauricio "Shogun" Rua will look to once again begin establishing himself as the top 205-pound fighter in the world when he rematches the most recent UFC Hall of Fame inductee, former UFC heavyweight champion and 2000 Pride FC Open Weight Champion, Mark Coleman.
Here is the most recent official card:
Main event:
205 lbs.: Rich Franklin (24-3) vs. Dan Henderson (23-7)
Main card (Televised):
205 lbs.: Mauricio "Shogun" Rua (16-3) vs. Mark Coleman (15-8)
185 lbs.: Denis Kang (31-10-1) vs. Alan Belcher (13-5)
170 lbs.: Marcus Davis (15–4) vs. Chris Lytle (26-16–5)
185 lbs.: Rousimar Palhares (8-2) vs. Jeremy Horn (80-18-5)Under card (May not be broadcast):
205 lbs.: Andre Gusmao (5-1) vs. Antonio Mendes (15–3)
155 lbs.: Nate Mohr (8-5) vs. Dennis Siver (12-6)
205 lbs.: Ivan Serati (10-2) vs. Tomasz Drwal (14-2)
170 lbs.: Thomas Egan (3-0) vs. John Hathaway (9-0)
The biggest surprise, of course, is the welterweight showdown between Marcus Davis and Chris Lytle is currently listed on the non-televised portion of the card.
That doesn't make much sense, considering it is a heavy favorite to capture "Fight of the Night" honors -- "The Irish Hand Grenade" and "Lights Out" have told just about anyone who will listen that the welterweight tilt will be an all-out slug fest. In fact, the first man to take the fight to the ground will be branded a "pussy."
Hopefully, in time, it will be promoted to the main card where it should be in the first place.
For all the latest UFC 93 information you can handle be sure to hit up our event archive right here.
Update from UFC.com: "Also added to the UFC 93 main card is the long-awaited welterweight showdown between Marcus "The Irish Hand Grenade" Davis and Chris "Lights Out" Lytle, and a middleweight bout between submission specialist Rousimar Palhares and former UFC title challenger Jeremy Horn."

I am really looking forward to this event, but there must be a mistake with Nate Mohr and Dennis Siver being on the televised card it doesn’t make any sense.

I agree, this is one of the better events that is being held over seas! I know you guys disagree, but I got coleman in what could be upset of the year. I got Hendo and belcher too.
also the lytle/davis fight has fight of the night potential!

I got Hendo and Belcher too, but I dont see Coleman winning at all.

I know, I’m the only one! I just think he still has some talent, look at his fight with Fedor! I don’t know, I realize shogun was hurt, but he and his brother have not impressed me in recent history. I can’t go by who you were, but only what you’ve done lately! If this weren’t the case, cro cop would still be the most feared guy in the world, not getting called out and not responding to overeem!

How is Palhares not on the main card? That dude is sick.
by c-war on Dec 1, 2008 10:50 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
belcher is not winning! he won a split decision against ed herman and only beat khalib starnes because of cut, no way is kang getting beat by that scrub… anyways! i hope this is Tomasz Drwal’s coming out party, very exciting fighter I just hope he can get his cardio together!!
by brendan on Dec 1, 2008 10:52 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
I’m hoping belcher uses his legs more! He looked O.K. in his last fight, I’m giving him the benefit of the doubt!

if hendo loses i’m gonna break something. ace is a nice guy and a hell of a fighter but being a bigtime henerson fan i gotta see a rematch with anderson silva.

Is the Coleman v Shogun fight really supposed to be competitive? I kinda thought Coleman was a big joke now…kinda like tank abbott or something

coleman/shogun .. still think one of them is going to be scratched off with an injury

RedDog you do realize Coleman signed a new contract with the UFC and was put in the UFC hall of fame.Do you think if he was considered a big joke by Zuffa they would be doing this?
by Lincoln on Dec 2, 2008 2:06 AM EST up reply actions 0 recs
I fired a guy named Mark Coleman who washed dishes for me last week. He didn’t have enough cardio to last a shift, and got crazy angry all the time when smaller people did a better job.

WHAT THE F – - – ??
Between this and Timmy’s quote I feel like it is April Fools. What is going on??
ANYBODY that watches MMA will agree that Lytle/Davis and Palhares/Horn DESERVE and NEED to be on the Main Card over Gusmao/Mendes and Mohr/Siver.
Swap those fights out and you actually have a very solid main card of fights for what everyone figured would be the worst event of the year. Right now it seems like the UFC is actually TRYING to make it the most lackluster event of the year. I mean, what’s next, demoting Henderson/Fraklin to the swing bout and have Tom Egan vs. John Hathaway be the Main Event???
GET WITH THE PROGRAM UFC!!!!!!!!

Go check the UFC website. They say those 2 fights are on the main card.
by BNF on Dec 2, 2008 10:22 AM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Settle down boys! I fully expect to see Palhares/Horn and Lytle/Davis to be on the main card.
Trust me when I tell you that there is NO chance that the Mohr and Mendes fights get aired instead of the two above mentioned fights. THis isnt even a concern of mine because I am positive that we will see Lytle/Davis and the Palhares fights aired LIVE!!!!
Question: who do you think Kampman will be paired up against in his first Welterweight fight which is scheduled to go down at this event?
by john on Dec 2, 2008 11:11 AM EST up reply actions 0 recs
i would like kampann’s 1rst ww fight to be against jake shields. but thats a getting ahead of myself. he and mclovin would be a fun fight.
by b.w. on Dec 2, 2008 11:41 AM EST up reply actions 0 recs
I like that match b.w. Welcome Shields to the UFC 0-1. Kapmann has beaten better BJJ (Leites) and Shields striking is way behind Kapmann’s.
by BNF on Dec 2, 2008 12:49 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Shields has savage take-down and wrestling. The guy is almost never on his back if you watch his fights so either he takes the decision or is able to pound him into opening up and taking a submission as seen against Daly (albeit Kapmann is vastly superior to Daly).
by lord_ryder on Jan 16, 2009 5:36 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Also heard Martin Kampmann is also making his debut at 170 but no opponent signed yet. I think he should/will replace Nate and Dennis.

are YOU F’IN KIDDING ME!!?? Mohr vs Siver they’ve both lost several fights i think siver has like a 1-3 UFC record.. it must be a mistake Davis vs Lytle has fight of the night written all over it.

by the_mexicutioner on Dec 1, 2008 10:22 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
Ivan Serati (10-2) vs. Tomasz Drwal (14-2) needs to replace Gusmao/Mendes for real!
by brendan on Dec 1, 2008 10:25 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
I agree with Mexi, Davis/Lytle is far and away more interesting. How do you not have a guy named “The Irish Hand Grenade” not fight on the main card in Ireland?
by naturalshadow on Dec 1, 2008 11:18 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
I’m very confident that Davis vs. Lytle will be on the main card. However, I’m equally confident that Davis’ nickname won’t be “The Irish Hand Grenade” for this fight. Just like he did when he fought in Ireland before, he’ll change his nickname so he doesn’t offend the fans, which is a smart move on his part.

DAVIS vs. LYTLE on the undercard!!!! I hope that is a mistake. In fact it has to be lol

That will get fight of the night and one of them will pick up KO of the nights. Davis said they should have a “gentalmans agreement, so that the 1st guy to goto the mat is pussy”

This should be free on Spike. I thought they learned their lesson the last time they had a Franklin fight across the pond.
by phightower on Dec 1, 2008 10:29 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
I agree, it should be, but spike already said it costs them too much to put these shows on free to be doing it so early in the first quarter. I call bull shit though, charge a slightly higher fee for advertising, or even one of those long car/beer commercials for a “limited interruption” night of fights. There is always a way to offset costs, this is just a lame excuse, in my opinion! But what do I know, I’m a moron with no business sense, or no knowledge of how advertising works! (saved some of my fans the time!)
by kevin on Dec 1, 2008 10:53 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
I don’t think they can just artificially inflate ad prices. Those things are pretty much decided by demographic data and numbers, not by the networks. If they tried to charge more, they wouldn’t be able to fill the spots. I do think you have a point, though. I wonder if they barely squeak past even but would rather spare the resources for more profitable programming. I’m sure the personnel and logistics Spike uses on free UFC’s is massive.
by Clayton on Dec 2, 2008 2:34 AM EST up reply actions 0 recs
I call b.s. as well kevin. The UFC is Spike’s bread ‘n butter. If anything that’s when they earn their most money, not from shows like “Manswers.”
by chefdaddy on Dec 2, 2008 8:34 AM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Please, let’s get Manswers off the air at all costs. Why hasn’t UFC/Spike come up with a weekly fight night? Once a month on PPV just isn’t cutting it for me. How many reruns of CSI do we need in a day?
by lord_ryder on Jan 16, 2009 5:32 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
i said they should all be free(overseas) but you didn’t think so.if they can’t do it for free they should at least bring down the price maybe 20 bucks would be good.the only reason i think they should be free is the time its air live is too early and if its not aired live thats weak and the cards are usually weaker, this card is solid so i won’t mind buying it but i would not mind a discount.

great card. but I honestly do no understand the logic in putting IMO 1 of 3 fights im actually looking forward too, to not be on spike tv. Davis and Lytle always perform and are true warriors..its ridiculous.
bad business decision.

following ufc 92 is going to be hard and being between 92 and the gsp/peen 94 card is really tough. This has some good fights but 92and 94 are msh better. Who is anderson silvs gonna fight next? How about Damian M. OR Okami should he beat Lister.

they shoulda threw silva on this card, no title fights on a ppv without silva at 205 is stupid specially between superfights

two years ago a franklin hendo headliner would be considered a mega fight. i’m gonna pretend they’re both still belt holders and enjoy the struggle for straps. im joking of course… about the mega fight part. im joking again.

You’ve obviously already forgot UFC 89.This is a very underrated card I think Franklin/Henderson is going to be a great fight, and I know everyone is looking forward to Denis Kang in the UFC,but don’t be surprised if Belcher gives him a tough fight.Maybe I’m in the minority but I am also interested in seeing Coleman back in the cage.

Im just excited Shogun is back. Hopefully healed and ready to get back to his old self. Also Kang and Belcher should be a good one. But i agree with you all that this should be on spike…may have to take the cheap route and watch it by means other than ordering it.
by Amos on Dec 1, 2008 11:04 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
if the ufc is serious of having davis vs. lytle and pahlares vs. horn on the undercard with fights such as mendes vs. guasmo and siver vs. mohr on the main televised card i am not ordering it

i don’t wanna see 4 guys who all lost their last fights fighting on a pay per view
by bryant on Dec 2, 2008 12:34 AM EST reply actions 0 recs
NO WAY that Lytle vs. Davis isn’t on the main card. Siver and Mohr have pretty bad UFC records. This has to be a mixup.
by Chris on Dec 2, 2008 12:38 AM EST reply actions 0 recs
I was wondering about the televised card as well. It makes no sense. It would mean that they’d have fighters that they are paying more (and that are bigger names) fighting on the undercard. Unless they’re conceding a loss (in numbers) to the affliction card the following weekend? Or maybe they want to push for more on-demand web buys.
In any case, we’ll probably see both the Davis/Lytle and Palhares/Horn fights because w/o any title fights to beef up the running time they only have MAYBE 2 hours of fights on the main card. Even with all the showy t.v. bullshit(which I like, but that’s what it is) in between. If it’s a 3hr PPV slot we’ll see at least 2 more fights I imagine.

I just seen on here that they posted the confirmed main card tonite for UFC 93, i was shocked and bewildered by the UFC choosing to put lytle vs. davis on the prelims, that is rediculous. The 5th fight they put on the main card was Nate Mohr vs. Dennis Siver, now WTF is that. Please sign this in support for a exciting and more antipated fight in lytle vs. davis to be put on the main card of UFC 93 instead of siver vs. mohr

Rich Franklin vs. Dan Henderson = Henderson by U.Dec.
-
Mauricio Rua vs. Mark Coleman = Coleman by TKO in 2 RD.
Denis Kang vs. Alan Belcher = Kang by TKO in 1 RD.
Marcus Davis vs. Chris Lytle = Davis by U.Dec.
Rousimar Palhares vs. Jeremy Horn = Palhares by Sub in 1 RD.
-
Andre Gusmao vs. Antonio Mendes = Mendes by U.Dec.
Nate Mohr vs. Dennis Siver = Siver by S.Dec.
Ivan Serati vs. Tomasz Drwal = Drwal by KO in 1 RD.
Thomas Egan vs. John Hathaway = Egan by TKO in 2 RD.
-
Sub of the night = Rousimar Palhares.
TKO/KO of the night = Denis Kang.
Fight of the night = Rich Franklin vs. Dan Henderson.
