Thales Leites welcomes fight against Demian Maia

Props: Tatame.com
Quoteworthy:
"I’d accept a fight, I’m a professional. Demian is a great fighter and has been doing a great job in UFC. It’s possible that they put this fight, because the belt is with a Brazilian guy and we’re growing, so they can put this fight to take one of the Brazilians from the tops. I believe it’d be a good fight, we almost have the same game and it’s kind of different from the American guys, who goes from striking and work on the ground n’ pound. We know each other’s game and it’d be a huge fight. Demian has been doing a good job, but I’d accept this fight."
Thales Leites -- who is on a five-fight UFC win streak (5-1 overall) -- has no problems taking a fight against Demian Maia sometime down the road. Maia is on a four-fight tear of his own inside the Octagon, winning all four of his fights via submission. Locking the two Brazilians inside the cage would go a long way toward helping determine the top contender in the division. It would also be one hell of a ground war -- each fighter boasts sick jiu-jitsu skills. Sooner rather than later, please, Joe Silva.

WOW! Personally this is a dream fight for me between two of my favorite middle weights. I love watching to highly technical Jits guys on the ground.
I am a HUGE fan of both THales and Maia, and I hate to see one of these guys lose….but its crowded at the top, and the need to narrow down the candidates to find a suitable opponent for Anderson so I will understand if this fight is booked!
I would like to see Maia vs. Okami!

This fight would be good but demian is way better at No-Gi so i think he has a big advantage on the ground. Thales has better standup and chin. Okami is too soon IMO. He’s really good at shutting down sub offense from the top and doesn’t mind stalling/holding position. Maia needs someone to react to his movements and leave openings. Okami-Lister should answer most of these questions.

Okami is too soon for Maia? Sounds like Bisping.

Okami’s ripe and ready for Maia. IMO, an Okami-Silva II fight would be a waste of fights in Anderson’s contract, Hehe!

I was wondering not so long ago why no one was talking about this fight. Two former world champions now mma fighters. This fight makes sense, bisping is not in these guys league, imo these two guys should be fighting for a title match.

Well 5 fight win streak with an asterik. Marquardt put a beating on him…
by Liddell-Marquardt-GSP-Sherk on Nov 30, 2008 2:02 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
OMG I hate people who still think that Marquadt won. What would you do if you were Leites and you already DOMINATED round 1 and just got illegally kneed, giving ur opponent a point deduction? Uhhh, avoid the KO. And that’s what he did. Marquadt only poured it on because he had to. He had nothing to lose! Thales beat him fair and square and would do so AGAIN!
Onto this fight.. I have been calling for this for the last two weeks while everybody talks about Maia vs. Bisping. THIS IS THE FIGHT THAT SHOULD HAPPEN!! Both are higher in the standings than Bisping right now and would slaughter that fool.

Maia should probably take the win, but definatly an exciting fight.
by allamerican on Nov 30, 2008 3:20 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Maia will take this fight imo. Leites is a good fighter but his strength is his bjj and Maia is world class and would take it on the ground. Maia by submission or decision.

Maia by submission absolutely. This guy is an Abu-Dhabi[did I spell that right?]champ. He literally strangles high-level Sambo guys and Jiu-Jitsu black belts!

IDK, I’d give Leites like a 40% chance in that fight. I’d rather see Maia fight a guy like Nate or Franklin or Hendo. I think any of those guys beats him
by Dom on Nov 30, 2008 12:31 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
Maia just fought Nate..he finished him under 3 minutes..i doubt that’ll happen if he faces either Rich or Hendo.

Leites will get owned. Maia’s jits is on a whole new level compared to Leites.

I think so too. I would still like to see the fight though.

Bisping vs Marquadt
Leites vs Maia
Winner of Bisping/Marquadt fights winner of Franklin/Henderson for a title shot (unless Franklin wins both times)
Winner of Leites/Maia fights loser of Franklin/Henderson
Loser of Bisping/Marquadt fights loser of Leites/Maia,
possible chance of Leites/Marquadt rematch, which would be good.

Good fight I want leites to win because I think he’s a badass but it really doesnt matter who wins this match. both are very good.
by Jared on Nov 30, 2008 12:53 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
yeah there’s no doubt Maia would beat Leites.

Leites over Maia but he loses a rematch to Marquardt.People are all jumping on the Maia bandwagon following each other once the other areas in his game are exposed one person will jump off the bandwagon and others will follow.Wins over Quarry and Ed Herman shouldn’t make you the number #1 contender but I guess it does in the eyes of a lot of people who are in awe of his slick submissions.

thank you. maia has shown nothing. his wins are not against anyone top tier. i think leites wins this one.

I remember when every one was on the Marcus Davis bandwagon, it was amazing how quickly that disapeared when he lost to Mike Swick.

Cool! I love your UFC95 scenario….poor Mo has been feeling left out about that and finally he gets an answer and it was the funniest thing I have seen in a long time
by Psyqo78®™ on Nov 30, 2008 2:08 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Psyco. the ufc has 3 ppvs,2 freebies, ufn for the troops and a tuf finale, and 2 free wec events before ufc 95. thats alot of mma to be thinking about 95. and of course i was just pulling MO’S chain, but there comes a point. ive been posting on this site for over 2 years and just now realized that you cant use the g-word for homosexuals, without getting moderated. i learn something new everday.
by b.w. on Nov 30, 2008 2:20 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
You are absolutely right….And as far as the moderation goes, it is bordering on insanity.

Maia’s BJJ is far superior to Leites, though in a fight between them I think Leites know just as much as needed in defending against it.
Leites is to me a more complete MMA fighter than Maia (at this moment) and I think Leites would bring Maia his loss… depending on how smart Leites do against him so to say, if Leites is into business and trying to win as fast as possible Leites would win, as far as the fight goes further and if Leites not doing everything right he would lose to the hands, or legs of Maia.

I would much rather Maia against Bisping.
by BrandonGk4 on Nov 30, 2008 2:03 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
I think Bisping & Marquardt will do UFC Britian, and be tied up for a while. I think they will Okami the shot v Silva after he beats Lister sometime early next year. Same card Maia v Leites. Winner faces loser of Rich/Hendo On the same card as Bisping/Marquardt TUF finale. Also, I think that the winner Hendo & Rich will fight Chuck Lidell @ 205, maybe in Germany.

It would be a great fight, but my money would have to be on Maia. The guy is the sicker of the two.

bjj vs bjj is not exciting, let’s feed maia with bisping
by shamo84 on Nov 30, 2008 3:52 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
Maia would/will win this fight. EZ work. They had better keep that Britsh boy far away from Maia or else he’ll be goin’ home with his arm. Tap snap or tap you decide Bisping.
by Jason T on Nov 30, 2008 4:18 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
Maia will win this fight, and also a fight with Bisbing.
