I guess this is what guys do in their spare time when they’re UFC future is uncertain.
I think De La Hoya’s size is going to be too much for Pacquiao, but I hope Pacquiao proves me wrong. He’s always fun to watch.

Pacman’s not going to have a problem with De La Hoya’s size. Every fighter that was ‘supposed’ to beat Pacquaio because of a size disadvantage got smoked.
Jon Fitch said in his post fight against GSP that speed kills. That’ll be the key to Pac winning this fight.

Pacquiao takes this all the way. He will be way too quick for De La Hoya.
by c-war on Nov 30, 2008 7:53 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
The only way Pacquiao wins this fight is if he can take DeLaHoya’s punch! Oscar IMO will be too big for Manny! Just look at the Paquiao/Diaz fight! David Diaz was a brawler and a weak one at that. Manny didnt carry his punching power to that weight class. It took 9 rounds of hitting a punching bag (David Diaz) to finally get the win. Oscar is not a stupid dude! Margarito or Cotto would have been a tough fight! So Manny is not as big a risk, and will be a big money fight!

I have to go with Pac Man! All oscar has is a Nasty Jab….Pac Man is going to bring it to him!

JV. exactly. the size diffference will be too much for manny. there’s a huge difference between david diaz and oscar. and people talk about manny’s speed like it’s on par with mayweather’s, it’s not, not even close. youre right, there is a reason oscar picked manny, smallest risk, biggest reward. no disrespect to manny, i love watching him fight, but there comes a point where size does matter.

They should be betting on which one of them gets resigned or cut.

It would be a genius plan for the UFC to get some of their fighters to start hyping this fight in order to put the squeeze on Affliction. I could see Dana and company trying that.

good thing they werent placing bets on there last fights b/c they both would have lost allot of $$$.

I think Pacquiao can pull it off. Oscar is too old and slow right not plus I think the cut down in weight will drain him quite a bit
by matthew on Nov 30, 2008 7:40 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
not a fan of boxing but de la hoya is the man and will pull this one out some way and setup a rematch with mayweather and give him the ass whoopin he deserves

I will say one thing about De La Hoya he fights anybody and that’s why people love him…..
by Robert on Nov 30, 2008 7:54 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
The same can be said for Pacquiao.
by Diesel Power on Nov 30, 2008 8:00 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
if he would of fought anybody then he would of fought Antonio Margarito or Miguel Cotto. Not a lightweight who is 4 inches shorter and has come a long way from 116 pounds.
by matthew on Nov 30, 2008 8:02 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Actually, I don’t think he is fighting Pacquiao to avoid Margarito or Cotto at all. The Hopkins, and Mayweather fights sorta disprove that. He is fighting Pacquiao because that is the biggest payday. I’m pickin De La Hoya. He’s always been my favourtie and hopefully he can pull of at least one more big win to solidify his career.
by Amos on Nov 30, 2008 8:08 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
so he chooses fights based on money and and not on who will pose the biggest challenge?
by matthew on Nov 30, 2008 8:12 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
At 35 years old.. wouldn’t you? De La Hoya doesn’t have many good boxing years left for big paydays. Common man…the economy sucks and the Golden Boy has Rolls Royce and Mansion payments to make…hahaha..
by TabascoSAUCE on Nov 30, 2008 9:03 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
matthew, everybody follows the money in every sport, that’s what life is about making money to have a good life.. it’s not like Oscar has anything to prove or something!
by RoB on Nov 30, 2008 9:34 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
all im saying is he is ducking the best possible fighter he can fight!
by matthew on Nov 30, 2008 11:09 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Matthew…Oscar has absolutely nothing to prove to anybody. People like you are the reason that guys like Randy, Chuck, Hughes, etc… all try to hang in there for too long and end up leaving the sport looking like old men that are way out of their league.
What if he fought Margarito and Cotto, and (hypothetically speaking) beat them both, then went for a big payday after that? Then fought Manny? Then there would be some other guy that would be the “best possible fighter”, and you’d be saying “he should fight that guy instead.” You can’t please everybody, and I’m glad Oscar is fighting the best p4p guy out there.
What if Anderson Silva fights GSP next year? Will you be in here saying “Anderson should be fighting the best MW or LHW…not a WW”?

this was such a corny video… seemed so staged
by brendan on Nov 30, 2008 8:05 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
A corny video about boxing. Wake me up when its over.
by halljam2 on Nov 30, 2008 8:29 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Well obviously it was staged. They planned this idea ahead and then filmed it. They didn’t spontaneously start talking about the fight while a camera guy was filming.
by R-Dizzle on Nov 30, 2008 8:54 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
You’re thinking too much.. They’re just having fun with the fight since Vera is filipino and Huerta is mexican. Not that big of a deal.
by R-Dizzle on Nov 30, 2008 9:43 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Anybody know what’s going on with Huerta? Miss seeing the guy fight… one of my favorites for sure.
by Anthony on Nov 30, 2008 8:21 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
Well last I heard he had one fight left on his current contract. Before the Florian fight he was bargaining for an extension with more money, haven’t heard anything since.
by Stefan Manojlovic on Nov 30, 2008 8:39 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
He’s getting the Andre Arlovski treatment. He has one fight left on his contract and will probably sit out until he comes to an agreement on an extension just like Arlovski sat out for awhile while he was renegotiating and if he doesn’t reach an agreement Huerta will likely have his last fight on an undercard and then move on to another organization.

paquiao did not defeat juan manuel marquez in a convincing fashion. marquez is an ecceptional defensive figher, whoever saw the fight knows what im talking about, its pretty much the same fight but u have de la hoya probably who is top 3 best defensive fighters ever much stronger than marquez. when u put him against paquiao who is aggressive who knows what to expect but i see paquiao getting rocked maybe even knocked down, not knocked out, with the falls givin de la hoya an advantage. de la hoya hasnt been knocked out besides hopkins who is much heavier than de la hoya and that was a body shot.(same as this fight) (hopkins vs pavlik) (jones vs trinidad) speed wasnt factor.
but anyways its boxing im not expecting much if de la hoya loses i would love to see mayweather and paquiaou.
and roger huerta
my favorite fighter forsure
i hope he stays in the octagon, he mighta lost to kenny but hes the only one who put up a fight in the lw division against him, it would be a sahme to see him go.

De La Hoya is a punk for fighting Pacquiao. Pacquiao is number 1 lb. for lb. in the world but the guy started his career at 108 lbs and the heaviest weight he’s ever fought at was 135 lbs. and that was once. De La Hoya needs to be fighting someone his own size like Margarito or Cotto. I can’t stand De La Hoya’s greedy ass. Well at least Pacquaio is making the biggest payday of his life and really has nothing to lose. If he wins, he beat the Golden Boy and if he loses, well he lost to a bigger fighter who has fought people as big as Bernard Hopkins who is a former champ at lightheavy weight. Chavez Jr. said it right when he said that he should fight Jorge Arce if ridiculous matchmaking like this continues.

by Khaos_Warrior on Dec 1, 2008 3:03 AM EST reply actions 0 recs
I think Oscar will take this fight. His trainer is the same guy that trains Marquez, and Marquez only lost a very close split decision in his last fight with Pacman (Pacman won, because of an early knockdown). I think if Marquez had Oscar’s size, power, and natural abilities…he would have won. Therefore, since Oscar has all of those things, plus a good trainer who knows how to handle Manny….Oscar takes this fight.
One thing is for sure….I won’t be missing this one.
