Alistair Overeem: 'I do see myself defeating Brock Lesnar'

Props: FiveOuncesOfPain.com

Quoteworthy:

"It was a good performance but I see some weak spots in Brock’s game plan. Although I think he is a very interesting opponent, I’m looking forward to see more of Brock’s fights and seeing him develop more.... Yes, and I do see myself defeating Brock Lesnar."

Add the "Demolition Man" to the long list of mixed martial arts veterans who feel confident about their chances against UFC Heavyweight Champion Brock Lesnar. The Dutch fighter has looked solid of late, winning four straight consecutive bouts and -- before smashing his balls -- was putting it to Mirko Cro Cop at DREAM 6 in September. Overeem has been in against some of the best in the business throughout his career, which would give him a huge experience advantage if he were to ever tangle with Lesnar .... but don't hold your breath -- it's highly unlikely anytime soon.

oh what the hell… I also want to throw my name out there. I can defeat Brock Lesnar

by day1er on Nov 28, 2008 10:14 AM EST reply actions

He may be a trash talker but he’s got some excellent standup also got a giant wingspan like brock and an awesome guillotine. I actually think he would stand a chance if he had a better chin.

by NameNotRequired on Nov 28, 2008 1:42 PM EST up reply actions

overreem is a monster now I could see him beating brock for sure and yes hes got a few slick submissions with huge devesatating knees in the clinch and im not talking about the illegal blows to cro cop

he basically made buentello quit with knees to the midsection

by dia mette on Nov 28, 2008 2:04 PM EST up reply actions

Give me a break! Alistar’s submission game is basic/ All he has in his arsenal is a guillotine and a kimura, white belt stuff!

He is however leathel in the stand up. He is one of my favorite muy tai figters in mma!

Brock would just maul hiM!

Speaking of Muy Tai, I would give my left nut to see Buakaw por Pramuk try is hand in mma, but he doesnt even like mma, so NO CHANCE!

by john on Nov 28, 2008 2:47 PM EST up reply actions

next thing he’ll say that he can beat Fedor, Nog and rest

by zheka on Nov 28, 2008 10:16 AM EST reply actions

zheka — You mean he hasn’t already? Oh, you mean all at once. ;)

by MMACrossfire on Nov 28, 2008 10:12 PM EST up reply actions

Overeem would be a good addiction to what is the weakist division in the ufc imo

by braveheart on Nov 28, 2008 10:19 AM EST reply actions

Self-belief is everything I suppose

by kayriss on Nov 28, 2008 12:18 PM EST up reply actions

braveheart — This is definitely just what the doctor ordered for the UFC HW division. Now watch the heavyweights line up for a crack at the new champ. Be very interesting to see how this all plays out in ’09!

by MMACrossfire on Nov 28, 2008 10:13 PM EST up reply actions

This guy like to trash talk everyone, I think he could beat brock after 100 knees to the balls.

by TKO on Nov 28, 2008 10:23 AM EST reply actions

if the HGH and steroid abuse rumors are true kneeing brock in the balls probably wouldn’t do much for alistair.. i think hes a great fighter and all but brock would make him his bitch

by randy murders on Nov 28, 2008 12:46 PM EST up reply actions

I have hard time respecting fighters that fight dirty. At the same time don’t respect fighters that use roids. Alistair fight Kongo

by TKO on Nov 28, 2008 1:28 PM EST up reply actions

I hear Overeem also sees himself becoming the next Secretary-General of the United Nations, being the first man to walk on Mars, finding a cure for cancer, and tapping Gina Carano’s ass.

This guy is a loudmouth who has never beaten anyone good – and don’t give me any crap his submitting Mark Hunt. The average MMAMania poster has enough submission acumen to submit Mark Hunt.

by Graham on Nov 28, 2008 10:27 AM EST reply actions

LOL….agreed

by Robert on Nov 28, 2008 11:39 AM EST up reply actions

How many Robert’s post comments on here.

by Robert on Nov 28, 2008 12:18 PM EST up reply actions

Graham, are you suggesting nobody has tapped Gina’s a$$ yet?

by PW on Nov 28, 2008 1:39 PM EST up reply actions

I think you miss understood the empahasis in “be the first”…… I think that only applied to the walking on mars….and possibly the cure for cancer…..

by Psyqo78®™ on Nov 28, 2008 2:10 PM EST up reply actions

Overeem beat Kharitonov! dont forget about that

by brendan on Nov 28, 2008 2:39 PM EST up reply actions

did I really spell misunderstood like that?…. wow.

by Psyqo78®™ on Nov 28, 2008 3:27 PM EST up reply actions

Well, he does have a spotless 29-11 record. And he beat Tae Hyun Lee in June of this year. (Lee had a 1-1 record at the time.) Yes indeed.

by MMACrossfire on Nov 28, 2008 10:24 PM EST up reply actions

If by “a spotless 29-11 record” you mean a record with eleven spots on it….

by PJJ on Nov 29, 2008 4:28 PM EST up reply actions

hahahaha gold man ! .. pure GOLD

by Jakob on Nov 28, 2008 11:12 PM EST up reply actions

I thought the Crocop cup shots were highly exaggerated. Overeem looks solid after all the juice and should make his way into the UFC.

by SaVaGe on Nov 28, 2008 10:33 AM EST reply actions

What exactly were exaggerated about the cup shots? They were hard, illegal shots and the replay confirmed it. And they do a lot of damage, hence the reason they are illegal.

by stevo on Nov 28, 2008 11:57 AM EST up reply actions

stevo — Yeah, I thought it was low when Overeem said afterward, “Ppphhht, I mean he was wearing a cup!” Or something like that.

by MMACrossfire on Nov 28, 2008 10:27 PM EST up reply actions

Why don’t you let someone give you a direct knee strike to your balls and I’ll tell you if you’re exaggerating the pain.

by Robert on Nov 28, 2008 12:20 PM EST up reply actions

I’m sure there’s a lot fo fighters that could beat Brock Lesnar, his three MMA wins are against some Korean can, Heath Herring (who happens to be kinda can-ish), and Randy Couture. I’m surprised he’s ranked in the top 5 by many sites (even Inside MMA) after only 4 MMA matches.

Overeem would KO Lesnar with a vicious knee to the head while Lesnar is attempting a takedown.

by Belisarius on Nov 28, 2008 10:45 AM EST reply actions

in frank mirs words “i thought i could land a knee or a kick as he shot but he was to fast” that coming from a former champion…

overeem would get murdered by kimbo in the first round the dude sucks

by randy murders on Nov 28, 2008 12:49 PM EST up reply actions

i hate overeem as a person. he personifies douchebaggery.

by jonsey on Nov 28, 2008 10:55 AM EST reply actions

I wonder if he will take up Cro Cop’s offer to fight him on Dec 6. He did run his mouth saying that Cro Cop did not want to fight him.

by Calgary Real Estate on Nov 28, 2008 11:20 AM EST reply actions

Overeem talks too much. thats not how dutch fighters behave.
not even yvel (where u will not be suprised if he talks like this) doesnt do that. i rather see Semmy or Melvin try to get their name in the ufc. just bring Overeem and his mouth to affliktion. (not saying UFC is the best or whatever, but somehow i dont see him belong there.)

by MMANL on Nov 28, 2008 11:25 AM EST reply actions

lesnar would once again be too big for anouther small heavyweight. lesnar will take a few good shots but once his 4xl hand hits overeem lights out then via ground and puond like he did randy

by gio on Nov 28, 2008 11:31 AM EST reply actions

I don’t like Overeem, but I think he would beat Lesnar right now. In a couple years, probably not….but if they fought today, Overeem would lay a beating on him. Brock only seems to finish guys after he rocks them with that right hand, and I just couldn’t imagine Brock hitting Overeem with it…Overeem would school Brock in stand-up.

Overeem by KO….until the piss test results are in and the results are possibly changed to a no contest.

by introvert on Nov 28, 2008 11:38 AM EST reply actions

I agree. Either he would murder him standing or he would tap him like he did to Mark Hunt or maybe with the guillotine.

by Bill Maher on Nov 28, 2008 12:27 PM EST up reply actions

yeah because brocks neck wouldnt prevent that from happening.. armbar? nope he’d curl overeem only submission brock can be caught with is a leglock ask frank mir who attempted an armbar

by randy murders on Nov 28, 2008 12:51 PM EST up reply actions

Have you seen Mark Hunt?

by introvert on Nov 28, 2008 1:59 PM EST up reply actions

Does anybody else hate this guy?

by yoububg on Nov 28, 2008 11:39 AM EST reply actions

Better question – does anybody like this guy??

by stevo on Nov 28, 2008 11:58 AM EST up reply actions

I like him as i fighter. he is a very skilled fight. All though he is out of his mind saying that he would beat brock. He is a loud mouth.

by belfort_fan on Nov 28, 2008 1:41 PM EST up reply actions

I think he’s the best fighter of all time. And a great humanitarian.

by MMACrossfire on Nov 28, 2008 10:31 PM EST up reply actions

ahahaha

by medecine balls on Nov 28, 2008 10:34 PM EST up reply actions

medecine balls — I’m joshin’ (Hey, look at all of us pathetic addicts on here tonight!)

Hey, does anybody both not hate Overeem and not like him too?

by MMACrossfire on Nov 28, 2008 10:41 PM EST up reply actions

Overeem is on the rise and is good at marketing himself, he should try to get into the UFC, lots of exciting matchups for him.

A rematch against Chuck at heavyweight this time would be intriguing, if Chuck gets past Randy.

by DirtyML on Nov 28, 2008 12:55 PM EST reply actions

I DONT THINK the randy/chuck 4 is happening anymore and i also hope that it doesnt………

by Colin D on Nov 28, 2008 2:09 PM EST up reply actions

ooo i think overeem would take it to chuck this time around, he was laying a good beatdown on him before he got caught

by brendan on Nov 28, 2008 2:40 PM EST up reply actions

man this guy talks alot of shit, he couldnt beat cro cop without kicking him in the nuts multiple times

by pat on Nov 28, 2008 12:59 PM EST reply actions

Overeem is a CHUMP plain and simple.

by Spyder on Nov 28, 2008 1:07 PM EST reply actions

I bet 90% of the heavy weights out there think they could beat lesnar and think his fight with randy was a fluke.

by nathan on Nov 28, 2008 1:30 PM EST reply actions

And out of those 90% …I think 95% of them are wrong.

by Psyqo78®™ on Nov 28, 2008 2:14 PM EST up reply actions

remember, 90% of statistics are good only 50% of the time.

by chefdaddy on Nov 28, 2008 8:52 PM EST up reply actions

This guy goes from an Average size (but good size) LHW to an absolutely HUGE and SHREDDED HW!?

hmmmmmmmmm

by SoCalStunNa on Nov 28, 2008 2:08 PM EST reply actions

No kidding….. Didn’t Liddell beat this chump?

by Psyqo78®™ on Nov 28, 2008 2:13 PM EST up reply actions

Average sized LHW? The guy’s 6 ft 5! And had trouble making weight at Light Heavyweight. If your frame is that big and you add muscle of course your going to look huge.

by shatner on Nov 28, 2008 2:49 PM EST up reply actions

6’5 so!?
isnt that black dude from TUF 6’1 and a LIGHTWEIGHT!?

Just saying to go from what he was to what he is, is no small feat!

by SoCalStunNa on Nov 28, 2008 6:06 PM EST up reply actions

hmmmm sorry alistair i have no interest in seeing you get dominated on the ground.

by Colin D on Nov 28, 2008 2:08 PM EST reply actions

I love how all these fighters from outside organizations, run their mouths ,why even talk about Brock, you will probably never fight him,and by the time you do,he is going to be 10 times better ,so just shut up,and go knee Cro cop a few more times in the nuts

by scott on Nov 28, 2008 2:32 PM EST reply actions

Because you an I will talk about him.

by introvert on Nov 28, 2008 2:45 PM EST up reply actions

Overeem is younger than Brock with a lot of experience. You don’t think he’s going to get a lot better as a heavyweight. Brock can train night and day for the next 5 years and not get the striking, and submission skills Overeem has already.

by shatner on Nov 28, 2008 2:55 PM EST up reply actions

shatner — Think you have it backward. Overeem will get marginally better, if that. Lesnar will improve leaps and bounds. He doesn’t need to have Overeem’s game, only his own improved game to win. Don’t forget, solid jits defense is still jits.

by MMACrossfire on Nov 28, 2008 10:34 PM EST up reply actions

Brock would run threw him now and in a few years. When are people going to give him the respect he is due.He was destroying Mir,beat the crap out of Herring, and Randy.Overeem and Cro cop have a rivalry, and he had to knee his nuts in that fight, and everybody has seen what Cro cop would do in the UFC,so I would say the same would go for Overeem. Also if he is such a great striker ,then why could he not stop hitting Cro cop nuts.Either he is not that accurate or he is just a cheater.

by scott on Nov 28, 2008 3:28 PM EST reply actions

You’re trying to be funny right?

by shatner on Nov 28, 2008 3:31 PM EST up reply actions

alistair, shut up.

by JB on Nov 28, 2008 3:35 PM EST reply actions

What a great reply keep them coming.

by shatner on Nov 28, 2008 3:37 PM EST up reply actions

Troll

by SoCalStunNa on Nov 28, 2008 6:08 PM EST up reply actions

Made me laugh actually.

by introvert on Nov 28, 2008 3:58 PM EST up reply actions

Who the hell doesn’t see weak spots in Lesnars game?
This is not friggan rocket science, Lesnar is just to big, the only thing that may take him out is a huge striker, or Frank Mir, lol. I think he may be to much for Fedor although Fedor has took out some giants, but lets face it Brock is a totally different kind of giant, Lesnar has power that can defend a lot of submissions by smaller fighters that’s why there should be a cruiser weight division although its cool there isn’t, the UFC heavy weight division is a close to an open weight division as there is that I know of. I wish more light heavy fighters would move up to make these super fights. One thing I know is Shane Carwin has got Brocks number I think, that guy is a beast. Anyone hear anything on how Lashley looks? That’s one huge bother.

by TysonLeeHarris on Nov 28, 2008 4:53 PM EST reply actions

TysonLeeHarris — I imagine Fedor would do his ol’ surprise attack overwhelm-the-opponent flurry of punches to the side of the head. He just swarms. Lesnar would no doubt train for that exact scenario, because it’s Fedor’s bread and butter. I’ve love to see that fight. Hope it happens someday. Man, watch all the heavyweights out there start taking numbers and standing in line.

by MMACrossfire on Nov 28, 2008 10:45 PM EST up reply actions

I bet there’s many out there that can beat Brock… I mean he only got 2 years of MMA training and 4 fights with 3 wins.

Alistair on the other hand have 40 MMA fights with 29 wins, he have been fighting as an MMA pro for 10 years!

Since Randy got taken down it would’ve been cool to see Alistair defend the takedowns.

Alistair is after Brock’s Man Sack… he must learn how to throw those knees.

by JonnyBoy on Nov 28, 2008 7:08 PM EST reply actions

I like alistair, hes a shit talker?!?!?! omfg i didnt know those kind of people where into mma!!

Yes overeem did hit cro cop in the nuts but you damn cro cop fans have got to stop. overeem was HANDS DOWN killing cro cop in the match before that happend. cro cop looked like shit, because well… he kinda is now. he got kod but fuckin gonzaga with his own move. GG SUCKS!
