sounds like fatty werdum has “tito syndrome”. he shoulda took the paycut, got himself into shape and fought his way back to the top. you know when Affliction turns you down, your not as good as you think.

Tito Ortiz was the light heavyweight champ longer than anyone and part of the biggest PPV’s in UFC history and is tied with Matt Hughes for 2nd in career wins in the UFC.Werdum was 2 and 2 in the UFC does this sound like a sound comparison.

i wasnt comparing them as fighters or their records. i was comparing their situations. both coming off dissapointing losses and thinking their worth more than what they are. Affliction came out with the same statement for both fighters. they had talks with both fighters and both asked for way too much money and they turned them away. reading comprhension is not quite your forte is it?

by b.w. on Nov 28, 2008 10:47 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

b.w then why is Chuck Liddell making that much money without having to take a paycut after losing? .. Tito Ortiz is worth way more than they paid him

by RoB on Nov 28, 2008 11:57 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

you guys dont get that this a business first, just like any othe sport.chuck is a legend and sells ALOT of ppv’s and tickets. he is one of the few fighters who is a cross-over star. werdum is pretty much a nobody except to hardcore fans. tito WAS a big draw, but i dont think he ever achieved the status that chuck or randy has. plus tito is a trouble maker and thinks he is worth more than what he actually is. why do you think tito has’nt signed a contract yet?

by b.w. on Nov 28, 2008 12:31 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

As usual, nothing to disagree with in your posts b.w.

Werdum thinks he’s worth WAY more than he actually is (just like Tito – I mean Trump’s son even waded into that whole “record contract” mess). As others have said below, Fabby should have taken the pay cut and ran with it. He should also probably take a page out of Tom Cruiz’ book and fire that sister of his that he’s currently go as his manager.

On top of the fact that Chuck is still one of the biggest PPV draws in the UFC, he is also a loyal company guy, and loyal employees often get better treatment than guys who call their boss a bitch. As a business owner, it makes sense to me, and as you said b.w., it’s business baby.

you couldn’t be more wrong b.w that is the only thing i get.. and that is why the comparison between Werdum and Tito is horrible, Tito Ortiz is in fact a bigger draw than Chuck Liddell and A hell of a lot bigger draw than Randy Couture, if you don’t believe that u should go and compare their numbers and you’ll see that Tito is the best. the amazing thing about it is that the UFC wasn’t even marketing Tito the way they did with the others, he did it on his own.. bottom line Tito Ortiz is worth more than Chuck and Randy, the only huge problem in the way is Dana White because he lets his personal feelings get in the way of business. he has been trying to take Tito’s stardom away by matching him up with extremely bad stylisctic matchups, and tries to market his boy Chuck whom he thought was gonna KO the guy Tito beat! Could you imagine if the UFC even tried to market Tito the way they do with Chuck and gave him better matchups with guys that they thought and hoped Tito was going to beat like they do for Chuck!

by RoB on Nov 28, 2008 8:35 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Chuck losing 3 out of 4 and they’re not even saying a word about it? yea i know b/c it’s a business.. but THAT is the f’in thing if Tito had lost 3 out of 4 fights Dana would mention it every chance he gets, and that is what Dana is doing he’s critizizing him like hell because he’s not winning over top 5 guys, but hey when it comes to Tito it has nothing to do with business or the entertaining fights he’s in, even if he draws more than anyone and wins over an opponent that Chuck loses to. Chuck could go on to lose his 4th in 5 fights, and he still gets paid alot more than the other guys and Dana never says a word about it b/c Chuck is his best friend! .. there is no answer to this because this is straight facts and you know it!

by RoB on Nov 28, 2008 8:53 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Tito Ortiz is a bigger celebrity and a star than Liddell is..

by RoB on Nov 28, 2008 8:58 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

And that’s why he’s been gainfully unemployed since he left the UFC in May.
If Tito Ortiz was actually good for business he would have fought, or at least signed with someone, in the last 6 months. And don’t give me the “bad back” excuse, he’s just getting some work done because he couldn’t find his giant-headed ass a J-O-B. Thankfully for guys like you though he’s a super human healer and he’ll be back in 1/2 the time it took Nate Quarry?!?!?

by Canucklehead on Nov 29, 2008 2:22 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

yeaa b/c he’s been training much harder and been in much better shape than Nate Quarry’s ever been in since he was a kid.. he’s been unemployed b/c the UFC rules MMA and Dana White keeps the other orgs small, Tito is a bigger star than any organization can handle b/c the money isn’t in the sport! he should’ve been a soccer player in europe where stars get paid what they deserve and gets appreciated by the fans.. and to have a president that has close personal relationships with fighters and favorizes guys that he likes and throws the guys out that wants to make some money is just unbelivably bad, Tito’s been f’in makin Dana’s money who’s been giving money to whom.. look at the ppv numbers when Tito’s been fighting and you’ll see that the numbers he’s done were at the time great for the UFC..

by RoB on Nov 29, 2008 11:51 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Tito, is that you? Or does RoB = Jenna? Because I don’t think I’ve ever encountered a fan that actually believes ALL the crap that comes out of his Huntington Beach Pie Hole.
How the hell would you know anything about Nate Quarry’s “training” anyway? What a silly comment.
I also like how you actually blame D.W. and the UFC for Tito’s outlandish contract demands. Riiiiight, it’s everybody’s fault BUT Tito’s. Take it from me RoB (or don’t, I don’t really care), problem employees are more trouble than their worth, and as “business man” Tito should understand that and act like an friggin’ adult.

Anyway, good luck with the twins you guys.

All i am saying is that McNeil needs to go. His insider source is beginning to sound like goldy with his stats.

Gotta love these shows- i think kenny has a good future if he decides to hang up the gloves. Keep em comin, I feel bad for werdum, he should go back to the UFC take the pay cut win a couple of fights then get the amount he deserved.. if Gonzaga made that much money and he lost to verdum a couple of wins and verdum will be making more money if he decides to return

by ricky on Nov 28, 2008 12:24 AM EST reply actions   0 recs

I agree about Kenny as a broadcaster. He was also good at UFC 83 when he filled in for Rogan.

Love to hear when a “lurker” becomes a commenter FJM. You are spot on with your comments concerning the discussion here at MMAMania. So that said, you better bring it man. ;)

LET US HOPE that randy and chuck dont have to fight again i dont wanna see two old dogs have to fight each other. Hell they should be training together by now.

No kidding I have no interest in that fight at all.

by stevo on Nov 28, 2008 9:03 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Well looks like Mir lost the dumb haircut. Way to go. I guess all the fighter saw how much Affliction paid at their first show and they’re trying to get a similiar payday. Hopefully Afflictions not dumb enough to pay someone mediocre $800,000.00 again

I’ve got to disagree with Florian and McNeil saying that Brock is a top 5 HW after beating Couture. His last two wins have been impressive, but based on overall body of work, I still have him behind Fedor, Nogueira, Barnett, Arlovski, Gonzaga, Werdum and Mir. I believe he could beat a lot of the guys ahead of him, but I think he needs to consistently beat the top HW fighters to be considered top 5.

by GregC on Nov 28, 2008 2:28 AM EST reply actions   0 recs

I think that Brock would own Arlovski and maybe Barnett too.

by RyanHobbs on Nov 28, 2008 4:13 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

do u even know who Barnett is? Barnett would sub brock easier than Werdum or Mir would!

by john on Nov 28, 2008 8:25 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Yup Barnett would own Lesnar. Dont know about AA though.

by stevo on Nov 28, 2008 9:04 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

AA has much better striking than Randy and matches up better with Brock Lesnar in size, so i’d say that Andrei wins that fight. but it would be close and in a year maybe i’d give Brock the edge.. Brock is a beast and he would definitely be a top 5 hw if he beats Nogueira!
