Michael Bisping can beat both Rich Franklin and Dan Henderson

Props: The Sun
Quoteworthy:
"I’d love to fight [Rich Franklin]. But I’d love to fight Henderson too. They’re household names and legends of the sport and it would be an honour and a privilege to fight one of them. I think I stack up well against them. I’d go out there to win – and I think I could. I think I can beat both of them. It wouldn’t be easy, but my confidence is growing with every fight."
The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 9 coach and season three light heavyweight winner Michael Bisping talks about his chances against the top fighters in his category (sorta). Interestingly enough, "Ace" and "Hollywood" are set to collide in a 205-pound bout at UFC 93 on January 17, which could determine "The Count's" opposing coach on the next installment of the mixed martial arts reality series ... if the winner wants to compete at 185 pounds and if he wants to serve as coach. There's a lot of "ifs," but now that Bisping has ascended to the top of the division he'll have to go through someone with the ilk of someone like Franklin or Henderson if he wants to earn a title shot in 2009.

Bisping has never really been beaten. Yea, he lost to Rashad but it was close split decision which neither fighter really dominated. He took Chris Leben apart fairly easily which is no easy task my all means. Franklin and Hendo are a level above everyone else, but I wouldnt be surprised if Bisping pulled off a win against either one of them.

He lost to hamill, hometown judging saved him there

Ummmmm……..the British judge gave it to Hammill. The American judges gave it to Bisping.

Bisping must have paid them, watched the fight 4 times and cannot see how rounds 1 or 2 went to bisping, just not possible.

Actually it was the other way around, the American judge(s) gave the split to Bisping.

Bisping paid the judges? Why would he do that if everyone including Bisping thought he was going to win fairly easy?

I just cannot see how he won that fight.

Bisping definately lost to Hamil. He clearly lost rounds 1 and 2. He also lost to Rashad and ran the whole time against Leben.
Bottom line: Hendo or Franklin would beat him badly.

Wow Bisping you speak the truth, Rich won’t be able to handle the foot work and combo’s from the British assassin. Hendo, he is to slow and comes in punching like a little kid throwing a hissy fit, Bisping would work his jab and combo’s to his big head until he drops.

Wow bold statement!! Rich and Hendo would demolish the 185 pd Machida wanna be

bisping would not beat Anderson, Rich, or Hendo. i hope he fights Hendo, that way he knows how it feels to be pinned down and beatin’ for 15 minutes.
Bisping is the fighter who gets to the top and falls off the moutain, cause a person like Rich would give that nate quarry KO!!

Personally I think he is just picking someone with a name that he stands a chance of beating and when I say he stands a chance I mean his style matches up better with Hendo and Franklin.
He has just been pretty much called out by Maia and maybe he thinks he is not much of a high profile fighter to want to fight him but mark my words, Maia would choke the shit out of him. I actually think Maia could go all the way to the top with his BJJ. Its off the charts and so incredible to watch. That is one scary grappler.
I think of the two his best chances are with Franklin as I think Dan will just bring it too hard and he is one of my favourite fighters so I will always root for Dan.

Yeah. And with improved striking, he could be a match-up nightmare for Anderson.

Agreed that Maia would choke Bisping out, I can’t wait until this little Bisping flame burns out, he’s boring and does an awful lot of running. Maia is no joke, 185 and 205 classes are getting very interesting. If Bisping is lucky enough to not fall off this mountain he better hope Silva retires if/before Bisping gets a title shot.

You guys have no idea how badly I want to see Hendo just SMASH Bisping cocky face in!!!
I can see Bisping folding like a chair (or Terry Martin) after one Hendo overhand right.
And I can also see Hendo having his hands handcuffed behind his back for 5 minutes and Bisping still not being able to knock Hendo out.

im with you violentmike. maaayyyybbbeee he could squeek out a lame decision over franklin, but henderson would knock bispings block off!

IMO, Franklin is a better overall fighter than Hendo! But I do agree either of the two would smash Bisping!
by JV on Nov 25, 2008 12:25 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
JV- i actually think Hendo has more skills than franklin. Franklin has more technical striking but Hendo has chin and power. Wrestling and sub defense obviously go to Hendo. Neither of them really has anything special in terms of subs though.
by NameNotRequired on Nov 25, 2008 12:48 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
I think Bisping could beat either Hendo or Franklin. Hendo lloks like a former shell of the pride version of himself. Hendo has been survivng in the UFC on name ALONE, and I am hear to call him out on it. Bisping could take a decision against Hendo by outworking him.
Bisping vs. Franklin would be more interesting if you ask me.
by john on Nov 25, 2008 2:03 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
john how is Henderson surviving on name alone he’s 1 and 2 in his return to the UFC with losses to the middleweight and light heavyweight champions then he beat a guy that was 17 and 1 plus he’s one of the most dangerous ground fighters in the world. If anyone in the UFC is surviving on name alone it’s Chuck Liddell who’s skills are obviously deteriorating.Bisping would have no shot against Henderson.
by Robert on Nov 25, 2008 2:13 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
obviously you have never seen the old version of Hendo when he was a BEAST!!! That Henderson has yet to set foot in the Octagon. THis new version pisses me off. Hendo is one of my favorites and I am still waiting for him to fight the way I know he can.
by john on Nov 25, 2008 2:20 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Agreed. The only highlite he has had in the UFC is getting choked out by Anderson. His fights agaisn’t Rampage and Palhares were fogetable at best. If he loses to Rich that will be 3 out if his last 4 and he ain’t getting any younger. It is a must win agaisn’t Rich!
by BNF on Nov 25, 2008 2:34 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
This is absolutely, positively, 100% a must win for Hendo.
And John is right, Hendo has not had that killer instinct. In PRIDE he walked out to the ring and he was prepared to KILL whomever was in there with him.
I can understand that he didn’t have his ‘killer insinct’ in the Rampage fight since they are buddies and all. Then he had Anderson Silva, who is the greatest striker in MMA, so Dan coming out “guns a blazing” would not be the best strategy, as seen in round 2. Fight 3 was Rousimar Palhares. Hendo kept the fight standing and clearly won every round. However, he did not go for the kill. I credit this to him knowing that he needed a win in the UFC and simply could not go 0-3. He could not afford to risk a wild punch.
Now, its time to step up and bring the killer instinct into the octagon, and Rich is the perfect opponent to open up on (compared to his previous 3 opponents). Rich taking Hendo down is not a threat. Rich off of his back is not a threat. So that only leaves Rich standing to be a possible threat and Hendo has NEVER been KO’d.
Personally, I think Hendo has been too “smiley” since coming to the UFC. I want to see him looking pissed and mean mugging everyone from the time of the weigh ins right through the end of the fight.
by ViolentMike on Nov 25, 2008 3:07 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Page v Hendo was the most underrated fight of last year, and many people think he won that fight. He’s the only person to take a round from Spider and imo will have the best chance to beat him if there were a rematch.
Rich’s chin will be the factor in this and I don’t think he will last.

Oh God!!!!! Oh God!!!!! Could Bisping FINALLY be calling someone out???? That guy has b@lls the size of churchbells. I know he beat Leben. Leben came in with the same exact/expected game plan as in any other of his fights. And he even let Bisping hit him in the face and kick him in the head, and he didn’t blink. Any time Leben got within two feet of Bisping, the Count backpedaled/scrambled like it was going out of style. I’ll give him credit for the win, but it wasn’t impressive by ANY stretch of the imagination. That said, Franklin OR Hendo wouldn’t break too much of a sweat, unless they had to chase his backpedaling/jabbing behind for the full 15 minutes. Some of you guys say Forrest Griffin can’t “bust a grape?” Watch Bisping hit either of these two and you’ll see who can’t bust a grape. Either Ace or Hendo by KO.

y do u mock his style of fighting??
some of the best fighters have that style
machida
griffin
ken flo – sometimes
i could go on but if u dont like it u cant be much of an mma fan cuz wrestlers are more dull than a technical fighter
i dont get y ppl hate on him so much …. ppl are calling him just cuz he said he can beat both of them …. what do u want him to say??? i’m going to lose if i fight them. ??
at least he has the balls to call them out

Oh, NO my friend. He just impressed me!!! I’ve posted a hundred times that he needs to start calling people out. And don’t you feed me that “you can’t be much of an MMA fan” horsesh#t that some people spew out. I like what I like, and if you don’t like wrestling, which is vital to the sport, then maybe YOU “can’t be much of an MMA fan.” And there is a HUGE difference between his style and Machida’s. While they both avoid being tied up, and can dodge the punch, Machida doesn’t scramble in desperation to get away from it. The main difference would be that Machida’s style is consistent, while Bisping uses it against ANYONE that can punch thru a paper bag. Don’t get me wrong, that IS smart, but boring. I don’t hate the guy, I just want him to live up to all the hype. He has failed to do so up to this point.

where in that post did i mention that i didnt like wrestling??? one of my fav fighters is a wrestlers
i just dont think it is as interesting as stand up
it is not a huge difference in style at all
a huge difference in style would be chuck and maia for example…. that is a huge difference
the difference is that machida is better at the style of fighting than bisping is
by ufcaddict on Nov 25, 2008 1:27 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
I agree that Wrestling is not as interesting to watch as stand up, IMO. Of the major influences in MMA, my favorites in order are kickboxing, BJJ, boxing then wrestling. I just don’t like Bisping’s version of stand up. To watch Machida, it fascinates me to see his fluidity of movement. Bisping, seems more herky-jerky, panicky. If Machida is a doctor, Bisping is a high school biology student. I took it that you didn’t like wrestling by your statement in your first post. And I get a little p.o.ed when someone pulls the “you can’t be a true fan of MMA.”

Why the blind affection. There are fighters that I really like, but I don’t attach any delusions about their talent. Bispings a good fighter, but why go and make stuff up. Let him earn his credit by actually beating the guys that you say he can. If he does, then you can sing his praises. The absolute devotion, and at the price of reality is not necessary.

lol, thats funny, cause I happen to think that the blind hatred “there’s no way in hell he’ll win, Bisping is completely overrated” comments are really not necessary. by O damn he got caught on Nov 25, 2008 1:03 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Fair point.
I did say he’s a good fighter. Once he’s beaten the best, then you can label him one of the best. However, Silva, Hendo and even Franklin have already proven they can beat high caliber fighters, so it stands to reason that most fans will excpect them to fair better. I do usually have a strong opinion going into a fight, but I’m just not one of those guys that will boldly dismiss any fighter like some kind of vegas guru. It is mma and any time you have two quality fighters anything is possible. So, yes Bisping has a chance but, if we are being honest, he would have to be considered the underdog in either of those three matchups.

For most of the comments here, they just dont make sense. Why would anyone be a fighter, especially in the UFC and THINK they would loose to “top” level guys. Anyone in the UFC is a top level guy and on any given night can beat anyone else. So bisping saying he can beat hendo and franklin is a normal comment.

It’s just that Bisping has a bit of “poster boy syndrome.” Just like Roger Huerta, his marketability has given him an inflated since of value and skill. It would annoy the shit out of me if Huerta called out B.J. Penn. Yeah, he’s in MMA and he needs to at least think he has a chance, but there’s a line.

Hendo’s striking is no where near the level of bispings, he would get picked apart trying to knock bisping out just like leben did! Bispings never been knocked out yet you think Hendo would? Wheres Hendo’s one punch ko power?? Didnt show any of tht in his last 3 fights!! Hendos a brawler with good wrestling, a style which would suit Bisping well. Bispings also got great takedown defense which would make it hard for even hendo to take him down.

anderson silva, who doesn’t have the greatest take down defense only got taken down once by henderson. I know you’re going to say that he got knocked out after that, but henderson also tried to take him down and didn’t succeed. I think Bisping would hold his own against either one, but not necessarily win. A lot of the people in this forum give this guy very little credit. He’s highly skilled and has a lot of heart. If that fight with Leben would have lasted 5 rounds you all would have gotten your tko, guaranteed, and you know it. Leben’s face would have exploded at one point.

A. Silva spent almost the entire first rd 1 on his back. He rocked Dan with a knee and some punch’s in rd 2 then took his back and Subbed him, it’s not like he outgrappled Hendo.
And my point still stands, and maybe I’m wrong and just haven’t seen the fight, but I have never seen a fighter stuff every Henderson takedown in a match where he wanted the fight on the ground. If Hendo fights Bisping that match WILL hit the mat, it’s damn near guaranteed.

Apparently you haven’t watched any pride fights. Hendo Ko’d wandy, something chuck couldn’t do. Hendo also ko’d murillo bustamante, and renzo gracie. 11 wins by (t)ko he has some hands.

U do realize Wandi flew out to vegas about 2 days before the fight didn’t climatize and stepped into the ring with a 100+ degree fever… Not that Dan doesn’t have the power to KO him, but I don’t see that happening again.
by O damn he got caught on Nov 25, 2008 2:31 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Yea probably not but he showed some impressive striking with wandi. I would like to see Hendo Wandi 3, before hendo retires.

I don’t think he’d beat either of them, but at least it’s not the same, I can beat anybody in the world statment. He gave them both respect and said it would be an honor to fight either of them. This came across pretty good if you ask me. I know he’s a bit cocky at times, but this is quite the opposite.

1. you have made a point he could never ko Hendo? Neither could Rampage! Bisping could get a decision imo as Hendo is 40 (this will be the excuse if Bisping wins him his age) 2. you are saying Bisping would get ko’d in a brutal way easily? he has never been ko’d or submitted in many UFC fights so far whoever he has fought there still UFC fighters guys. 3. I actually think it will be Franklin he fights and i actually think Franklin is the tougher fight for him! Franklin doesnt seem to want to do the show as the UFC actually wanted him to move up so do not be suprised if Bisping fights MARQUARDT as that has a big chance of happeneing if Franklin beats Hendo.

Id like to see Bisping fight Maia asap as he would get some credit for winning him! i think he could ko him very easily as he seem huge to him and he won’t lie down like that wimp Quarry

Well confidence growth can’t go unchecked forever. Time for someone to put Bisping in his place. Either Hendo or Franklin will do it.
by Clayton on Nov 25, 2008 1:27 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
Guys,
What did we expect him to say…“Yeah, I’m really looking forward to fighting those guys. I mean, they’re going to kick my ass, but I can’t wait to get in there.”
I’m a fan of Bisping and I don’t think he is ready for Hendo, and Anderson, forget about that fight. He might be able to take Rich. But what I see as confidence many see as cocky. If saying your are going to win a fight makes you cocky, then I hope that every fighter in the UFC and every other org is cocky.

I will be sick if bisping mangaes to squeak out a win against either of them.
by onthebutton(the unofficial pres of the Micheal Bisping Hater Club) on Nov 25, 2008 1:44 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
Maybe bisping could pay the judges again, then he might win.

The only reason Bisping felt it neccarasary to go on record and call out either Hendo or franklin is a direct reaction to him beind called out by Demian Maia
I dont believe bisping can beat franklin or hendo just like 99 % of the people on this thread
but I also believe he has a better chance against franklin then he does against maia I could see maia submiting both franklin and bisping in the first two rounds
bisping does not want to fight maia bottom line
by dia mette on Nov 25, 2008 1:53 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
personally i see hendo being next in line for bisping, the franklin fight just doesn’t make any sense to me, say franklin wins that fight. rich would be the number 1 contender again and silva v franklin 3 just isn’t that appealing. now the hendo fight on the other hand would be a great fight and the winner moves on to face the spider!!!
by HALE UK on Nov 25, 2008 2:08 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
i thought hendo did pretty well agenst silva even though he lost fairly quick, and as far as middle weights i would like to see anderson fight, a hendo rematch sounds good to me. Better than bisbing or maia.
by swizz on Nov 25, 2008 2:31 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
I have to say the biggest change I’ve seen in Bisbing since his drop to 185 is his attitude. He seems much more respectful now than when he fought at 205. I think he might have a shot against Franklin or Hendo, but he probibly won’t beat either of them. He may be able to out strike Hendo, who likes to stand, but I don’t see him out boxing Franklin. And if Hendo is losing he can always take Bisbing down and secure a victory with GNP.

He needs to bulk up in order to beat Hendo or Franklin both of them will outweigh him in a fight and they both hit harder especially HEndo.

He couldn’t even finish Leben. The guy’s mouth is huge.

MARQUARDT VS BISPING, A FIGHT ID LIKE TO SEE. IF BISPING BEAT MARQUARDT ID STOP SAYING HE IS THE MOST OVERRATED FIGHTER IN THE UFC. HOW EVER, I SEE MARQUARDT DESTROYING BISPING, ID GIVE BISPING NO CHANCE UNLESS IT WAS IN THE UK AND HE RUNS FOR 3 ROUNDS.
by Thebending on Nov 25, 2008 6:36 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
franklin and hendo would be entertaining fights for bisping. he certainly has a legit chance against either of them. since they are fighting each other at 205, id really like to see bisping fight nate marquart.
but his next opponent is going to coach opposite him for TUF. i dont know why Maia is calling bisping out. maia will definately not be coaching. and i doubt they would let nate marquart coach since he doesnt have a big name and this seasons ratings sucked with out big names.

Well I’d say he’d have a better chance at the moment against Franklin or Henderson than Maia. I’m not saying he’s dodging Maia but fighting Dan or Rich would be smarter.
Maia is a really interesting fighter, if you end up on the ground with him you’re screwed. Not sure Bisping hits hard enough to deter Maia from recklessly walking into range to clinch and bring it to the ground.
I don’t think Maia’s gameplan will work against Anderson. He needs to add a few more tools. If he’s in range to get his hands on Anderson he’s in range to get KTFO.

franklin or hendo by murder via right hand

LOL franklin or hendo would kick the shit out of him, he’s a cocky sob I hope he does fight either of these guys. His performance against hamill was horrible, he beat leben and now he’s the man, whatever.
by nathan on Nov 25, 2008 11:44 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
Nathan you fool why bring up that bum Hamill
by tony on Nov 26, 2008 7:45 AM EST reply actions 0 recs
I AM A FAN OF BISPING AND DONT THINK HE IS ANY MORE COCKY THAN MOST FIGHTERS. HIS FIGHT WITH HAMILL WAS CLOSE AND COULD HAVE GONE EITHER WAY DEPENDING ON HOW THE JUDGES SCORED THE FIGHT THE SAME WITH RASHAD. ALTHOUGH RASHAD TOOK HIM DOWN A FEW TIMES, BISPING MANAGED TO GET BACK UP EVERTIME WITHOUT ANY DAMAGE NOT MANY FIGHTERS WOULD BE ABLE TO DO THAT ESPECIALLY WITH BISPING NOT REALLY HAVING ANY BACKGROUND IN WRESTLING. HE DOES HAVE GREAT TAKEDOWN DEFENSE. I THINK FRANKLIN RATHER THAN HENDO WOULD BE A TOUGHER FIGHT AS HE IS TECHNICALLY BETTER ON THE FEET AND IT WOULD BE A BETTER FIGHT TO WATCH FOR THE FANS.
I DONT THINK BISPING IS TOP 10 MIDDLEWEIGHT UNTIL HE FIGHTS SOME TOP 10 COMPETITION ALTHOUGH SO FAR IN THE DIVISION HE HAS DONE WELL. HE ONLY FIGHTS WHO IS PUT IN FRONT OF HIM HE DOESNT CHOOSE, THE UFC MAY WANT TO PRESERVE HIM AGAINST THE TOP TIER MIDDLEWEIGHTS FOR A WHILE AS HE IS THE ONLY REAL CONTENDER FROM HERE IN ENGLAND IN THE UFC, SO HE HAS A REAL BIG FOLLOWING.
BY THE WAY CANT WAIT FOR THE RAMPAGE VS WANDERLEI FIGHT, ITS GONNA BE EXPLOSIVE, MY BET FOR FIGHT OF THE YEAR 2009 WHAT DO YOU THINK PEEPS.
MAIA DOES LOOK A DANGEROUS OPPONENT FOR BISPING BUT THE UFC WONT RISK THAT FIGHT AS MAIA ISNT A BIG ENOUGH NAME (ALTHOUGH HIGHLY SKILLED AND IS GOOD ENOUGH ) TO RISK BISPING LOSING AS HE IS THE FACE/POSTER BOY OF THE UFC, THEY WOULD LOSE TOO MUCH MONEY THATS WHY I DONT THINK BISPING VS MAIA WILL HAPPEN.

Of course i know about Hendo’s fights in PRIDE but the last time he fought there was against wandy at the start of 2007. We all know how that ended and tht wandy definatly wasnt himself that night. But then if you look further into his fight resume you see before the wandy he last KO was 2005 against Gono (hardly a physically big fighter). I may be wrong but Hendo has not fought a guy with as techniquely good boxing as Bisping has, people may hate on bissy for not engaging with Leben etc but the fact is he fights smart. If they were to fight i see Hendo eating jab after jab just like leben. I can see Hendo getiing him down occasionally but i doubt he will be able to hold him down if neither Rashad of Hamill could.
