Chris Horodecki loses at 'S-Cup 2008' prior to Affliction fight against Dan Lauzon

Former International Fight League (IFL) posterboy and lightweight champion Chris Horodecki (12-1) is set to face Dan "The Upgrade" Lauzon on the main card of Affliction: "Day of Reckoning" on January 24.
The original date for the event was October 11. With the postponement, Horodecki decided to stay busy by entering "S-Cup 2008" -- an eight-man Shootboxing tournament held in Japan over the weekend.
Shootboxing is basically mixed martial arts without the ground fighting. You can strike and throw your opponent and you can win with standing submissions, but there is essentially no ground fighting in Shootboxing.
The other seven combatants in the tournament were Denis Schneldmiller, Luiz Azeredo, Hiroki Shishido, Kenichi Ogata, Kenji Kanai, Edvin Kibus and two-time defending champion Andy Souwer.
Horodecki drew the 31-year-old Shishido in the first round -- an experienced fighter, but one who he was more than likely favored to defeat. Shishido, however, managed to outwork and out score "The Polish Hammer" on the judges scorecards en route to a unanimous decision win.
The loss won't go on Horodecki's MMA record, but it is still a setback for the 21-year-old fighter who is heading into one of the biggest fights of his career.
Andy Souwer went on to win the tournament for the third straight year. He defeated Hiroki Shishido, Edvin Kibus and Kenichi Ogata en route to winning the title.
For what it's worth, Lauzon also recently accepted a fight against Justin Hammertrum under the World Championship Fighting (WCF) banner before the showdown with Horodecki at "Day of Reckoning."
The younger brother of UFC lightweight fighter and The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) alum Joe Lauzon made his third straight start for the organization and fourth thus far in his career, scoring a first round technical knockout win in less than a minute.
Momentum ... could it be a factor?

chris is over-rated put him against 5 – 10 of the top ten in the world and he would prob. go 0-5

over rated? whos rating him whats he like 21 years old fighting grown men, he still has time to improve and experience win or lose will make him better.

he’ll improve but no that much, he’s all about hiding in the ropes. No amount of experience will give you heart or that fighter mindset.

He’s not the same prospect he was a couple years ago I think that beating he took by Ryan Schultz fucked him up a bit mentally. It’s tough for some young guys to recover when they suffer a beatdown like that unless they have a warrior mentality,I don’t think this guy does.

Hiroki Shishido was favored in the fight, not Horodecki like the article states.

Not surprised the overrated 8 year old lost again.

Horodecki was NOT the favourite.
Shishido is crazy experience under those rules and he can pick away and win on points.
Did anyone see the fight? They was no damage. Shishido did very well against Souwer, but lost. Souwer is amazing PS and it shows you Shishido is very solid.
It’s not a set back at all. It’s great experience.

Just to make it clear Shootboxing’s tournament is held once every two years and in 2006 Andy lost in final. So he is not defending anything but it is his third. I bet he was happy to wear his shootboxing pants again since K-1 banned them

I dont believe this hurts his momentum. These guys are mixed martial artists. Horodecki took a shootboxing match to keep active and work on his fight game. Would losing in a grappiling tournament or a boxing or wrestling match affect your MMa? I say no because everything you are doing is just another building block for the Big Game, MMa. Both of these guys are in their early twenties. They are both going to be in the fight game for a long time.
I see your point though. There is no denying the mental aspect of losing. These two guys are warriors they just wanna get back out into another fight, work on your game. Its a sport, you need to train and practice just like any other game.
Interesting fight. I say Lauzon in a split decision upset.

Like others have said, sloppy, poor reporting here. Shishido an underdog to Horodecki? Not at all. Souwer winning for the third straight year? Not even close.
