What else is he supposed to say??? GSP is clearly one of the most athletic, dynamic, well-rounded MMA fighters in the world. BJ is certainly up there, just not as close to the top of WW as GSP.

What I want to know is,Where can I buy one of those old grandma white rocking chairs? You can’t say your going to beat somebody up with a straight face while rockin in a rocking chair.

Ok Bj is the best at 155. NOT AT 170! He would get destroyed by Thiago, Fitch, Sanchez, I would even say Koscheck. Not to mention the best at 170, GSP. I dont know if there are any betting lines yet for this fight but no way GSP comes in as the underdog otherwise Im gonna bet my house.
by c-war on Nov 25, 2008 4:55 PM EST up reply actions
lyoto machida couldnt even destroy bj penn and bj weighed in for there fight at 184 machida weighed in at 215 what makes you think guys half as talented as machida would destroy bj? gsp maybe but anyone else is a toss up with bj
by randy murders on Nov 25, 2008 5:06 PM EST up reply actions
If Tito can decision Machida, it can’t be that hard.
by stevo on Nov 25, 2008 5:10 PM EST up reply actions
stevo – Machida beat Tito, not the other way around.
by seh on Nov 25, 2008 5:25 PM EST up reply actions
c-war, what logical reason do you have that Thiago, Fitch, Sanchez, and KOS would beat BJ. What are you basing that on?
by DJR on Nov 25, 2008 5:39 PM EST up reply actions
Right on DJR? C-war is bein’ delusional here. Koscheck beatin’ Penn? In my nightmares perhaps…

Penn has the ability to DESTROY any Welterweight, including GSP!!!

Correction: JOse Aldo is OUT! so Urijah will rematch Jens Pulver on January 25th while Mike Brown heals up from an injury~!

Well everyone said I was delusional when I said Forrest would beat Page, so I wont take too much offense to it.

Regarding the weights for the Machida vs. Penn fight: Look at Machida then adn look at him now, Machida when he fought Penn, was a heavyweight, about 140 pounds im pretty sure, maybe slightly less but still, it was at HW, not LHW, so techniqually, BJ has never fought at LHW, just at LW, WW, MW, and HW. Freakin A.
by The Anomaly on Nov 25, 2008 8:20 PM EST up reply actions
Wow. So Penn has lost in 4 different weight classes? or just 3?
by stevo on Nov 25, 2008 9:44 PM EST up reply actions
No wonder Penn fans don’t think realistically, BJ doesn’t either. Did I hear it wrong or did BJ say, he cleaned up the LW division? Did he also say, “don’t worry about it, I’m going to crush him”. BJ couldn’t crush Sherk, yet he thinks he will crush GSP. GSP made Fitch look like an average fighter. Fitch was on a 16 fight win streak, beating tough guys like Saunches and Alves. Fitch would destroy Sherk,it wouldn’t be much of a fight. If it wasn’t for Fitche’s great chin, he would have been embarassed in the first couple of minutes of the fight. That was the best GSP we have ever seen and he is constantly improving.
I know BJ fans don’t see this improvement, but anyone who looks objectively at the difference between the Hughes fight and the Fitch fight, can plainly see he has improved a lot. Fitch is better than Hughes in every aspect of fighting. If Hughes was fighting that aggressive GSP, he would have got KTFO in the first 2 minutes of the fight. Since the Kos fight, GSP has been increasingly more aggressive. He doesn’t piss around and feel his opponents out anymore. Expect to see GSP come out with guns blazing (or take-down) in the first 2 seconds of the fight. Believe me, GSP’s relentless pace will be to much for BJ,just like it was for Hughes Serra and Fitch. Anything short of BJ catching GSP with a haymaker early, he will be taking a beating. It’s not going to be the close fight so many antisipate.
by Gord on Nov 25, 2008 11:42 PM EST up reply actions
Penn is undefeated at Middle weight Stevo, and lost to the number one contending LHW weight right now, when he used to be a HW. Stop hating. GIve me soem realistic arguements, at least thats what Gord tried to do.
And Gord, i’m not even gonna waste my breath as we have done this like 20 times already. We’ll see buddy, we will see. I’ll start arguing again with you the week before.

Why do people act like Hawaii is such a bad ass place? Surfer gangs? Go hang around in the shady parts of New York, Detroit, or California. Sufer gangs and falling coconuts will be the least of your worries.
by naturalshadow on Nov 26, 2008 1:05 AM EST up reply actions
lol so true! I live in one of the best communities in the bay area, every day I read about gangs and robberies! Oakland is 15 minutes away, 4th worst city in the country! I can’t even go to the pats game, I wouldn’t make it out of the stadium alive (and that’s for real)! Red sox games are fine though! I think I could probably beat up a whole “surfer gang.” I didn’t see any city in Hawaii mentioned on the toughest places to live list!
by kevin on Nov 26, 2008 10:19 AM EST up reply actions
i went to the season opener with the a’s and the red sox. i shit you not i saw at least 10 fights break out during and after the game. it was absolutely scary when i saw a dude swinging a broken beer bottle trying to stab a sox fan! i got the hell outta there in a hurry.
by jonsey on Nov 26, 2008 11:13 AM EST up reply actions
I had great seats to all those games (3 rows off first base) so the fans from oakland were no where near me. We took bart in, and I thought I was going to get jumped, but me being me, I sat closest to the back so if I did, I could put my back to the wall and not get hit from behind! It’s the whole safety in numbers, those “gangs” of ignorant fans talking shit are nothing one on one! To me, it’s easier to take the family to hooters and watch the game…cause god knows it will be blacked out here!

LOL, hey it beats talking about Lauzon beating Franca!
I know my opinion on this is biased, but just look at how loose and confident BJ is, and then look at how tense and “proper” GSP is! I know it’s just their respective personalities, but I can guarantee you BJ didn’t need to throw a brick in a river, you know why, he beat the most dominant WW ever the first time around, and not on the tail end of his career!
On a side note, you see the young girl (hope she was 18) in the little pink dress waiting in line!!?? man I love exotic bitches!!
by kevin on Nov 25, 2008 4:16 PM EST up reply actions
I think most people here are judging this fight based off of the paper stats. I also like to take all things into account. I will change my mind sometimes just on a stare down or the look of a fighter when they walk to the cage. Personal issues and interview demeanor are good clues as well. Just like what Apollo said to Rocky. GSP fights great, but BJ is a great fighter!
by BNF on Nov 25, 2008 4:34 PM EST up reply actions
very well put BNF, my wife does that a lot, and has picked some big upsets lately, by going by entrance and stare down!
by kevin on Nov 25, 2008 4:39 PM EST up reply actions
KEVIN. i think gsp seeming more tense is due to the fact that english is not his 1rst language. he always seems a little uncomforatable giving interviews in english to me. if the tables were turned and bj had to give an interview in french with an interepeter, things might be different. bj does seem more laid back than gsp anyway(i think hawaiians are known for being laid back) but in the end, it does’nt mean anything, they both have to step into that cage were there is only 1 language. as far as the girl in pink, i agree. :)
by b.w. on Nov 25, 2008 4:46 PM EST up reply actions
it’s hard for me b/c they are my 2 favorite fighters,i dont think i will be pulling for either fighter, but i think gsp will win a close but not controversial ud (3rnds to 2). i think they are even as far as talent-wise, but gsp is a little bigger and a little stronger if bj wins i will be disappointed for georges, but i will be happy for b.j. and hope he eventually gives up the lw belt and gets to fight a.silva. for some odd reason, i think b.j matches up better with anderson than gsp, but i think gsp will beat b.j. weird huh?
by b.w. on Nov 25, 2008 5:16 PM EST up reply actions
That is weird! IMO, GSP has the better chance at Silva. GSP would have the chance to use his wrestling to stay away from a striking battle! BJ has no wrestling, so he would have no choice. I dont think it matters though, Silva is probably too big for both of them!
by JV on Nov 25, 2008 5:38 PM EST up reply actions
JV. i should probably wait and see how the gsp/bj fight goes before i make a decision on wether either of them have a chance against the spider.
by b.w. on Nov 25, 2008 5:46 PM EST up reply actions
It’s about their physiques BJ is too small for A.Silva and wouldn’t stand a chance against A.Silva GSP matches up much better with him b/c of his physique.. that was also the difference between BJ and GSP in the first fight and i believe the same thing will happen again..
by RoB on Nov 25, 2008 6:02 PM EST up reply actions

by kevin on Nov 25, 2008 6:30 PM EST up reply actions
BNF: I too will pick a certain fighter based solely on a look, or how he carries himself during the weigh ins….But the entrance is the most important part! When a top fighter has that look in his eyes during his entrance, I know right then and there that he wont loose.
Top fighter + the eye of the Tiger = WIN!!!!
by john on Nov 25, 2008 6:58 PM EST up reply actions
Thats not necessarily true john! To me, Brock looked nervous against Randy and still won!
by JV on Nov 25, 2008 7:36 PM EST up reply actions
Brock isnt a top fighter. For example: When Anderson is making his entrance, if he has the eye of the tiger, I know he wont lose! Same goes with guys like BJ, GSP.
An example is Rampage vs. Forrest. I bet my bank roll on Rampage, but as soon as I saw his demeanor walking to the cage, I knew that he was in trouble.
by john on Nov 25, 2008 8:10 PM EST up reply actions
I also think BJ has a better chance against Anderson SIlva, for 2 reasons, Andreson’s track shows BJJ guys have a better chance than wrestlers, and for two, Penn has the better chin than GSP.
by The Anomaly on Nov 25, 2008 8:23 PM EST up reply actions
I could go on and explain all the problems with what you said, but I would rather save the time and just sum it up with this: BJ fans, if you want to say anything positive about BJ, steer clear of the WW division. He got a freebee shot at the belt and he proved in his next 2 LOSSES that he is no more of a WW champ then Serra, actually less, Serra only lost one fight after his one hit wonder performance. BJ is 1-2 at WW, that’s NEGATIVE not positive.
by Gord on Nov 26, 2008 12:02 AM EST up reply actions
Ok actually thats 2-2 Gord. If you wanna get techniqual on me. And when Penn beat Hughes, it was the REAL hughes, the one slammin Carlos Newton, escaping top triangles from bottom, coming back from groin shots to beat trigg, beating sherk, and beating GSP, not the one GSP beat, not the former version of himself that cant even harm Lytle, and gets GnP’d by a muy thai fighter.

isnt it a little odd that we are being hyped this much for this fight which will happen in 2 months? I mean we got fight for the troops coming up, we got a crazy card on december 27, we got a great card with UFC 93 early january.
I already know this is gonna be a super fight, i dont need to be reminded. If I had a say with how the UFC markets their cards, id hype the other cards so the regular people ( im talking about the average joe, not hardcore fans) can justify buying these other PPVs especialy UFC 93 which most average joe doesnt seem interested ( dont get me wrong i cant wait to see that card!)
by PRiME on Nov 25, 2008 3:31 PM EST reply actions
The reason they hupe the fight early is to get the fighters out doing interviews and meeting the public before they start there training for the fight, if they tried to do all the media stuff while training they would be un-prepaired come fight time,
by jet99 on Nov 25, 2008 3:35 PM EST reply actions
BJ will hold the belts in both classes. GSP might be a great athlete but he must with no doubt destroy BJ if he wants to continue his legacy. BJ has been in the sport for so long and many in the mma world already see him as a legend. GSP is on his way there.
by CARNAGE on Nov 25, 2008 3:40 PM EST reply actions
What are you smoking? GSP has already accomplished more than BJ. Alves is the only guy left at WW and then GSP has to move on to bigger fish (MW divsion).

BJ is such a TMNT looking douchebag! I love how he acts as if the first fight never happened! Hello!!!! Sure youre on a 3 fight winning streak, over an aging Pulver, Joe Daddy (who Kenflo beat more convincingly) and a Non-Steroid powered Sean Sherk.

i love how you act like gsp dominated their first fight! hello!!!! sure he’s on a 3 fight winning streak, over an aging hughes, an out of shape and unrecovered from back injury matt serra( who kicked his ass in the first fight by the way) and a john fitch who was rocked early in the first and never fully recovered but he still couldn’t put away. gsp is such a vern troyer looking douchebag!

by Gord on Nov 26, 2008 12:43 AM EST up reply actions
oh yeah i forgot kos, the homeless ronald mcdonald lookalike in the ultimate takedown championship. kos is one step below gate keeper, he’s not even a contender. and the winning streak for gsp ends on jan. 31st.
by jonsey on Nov 26, 2008 11:25 AM EST up reply actions
More convincing? How much more of Joe’s blood did you need to see? The octagon looked like a murder scene. Kenny talks about his razor sharp “hell-bows”, but how long has it been since he cut someone. Kenny finished Joe quicker, but NOT more convincingly. BJ absolutely OWNED Joe for almost 2 rounds. BJ’s jiujitsu was crisper, and his movements were better than Kenny’s. Not to take anything away from Kenny, but Joe simply made a mistake during a scramble that Kenny could capitalize on. Joe didn’t even make a mistake against BJ. Joe didn’t hand it to BJ like he did against Kenny, BJ took it from him. BJ rocked him with a nice left from the mount, then took his back, trapped an arm, and submitted him with a nasty choke. There’s a difference there.
by --utaptout-- on Nov 25, 2008 6:57 PM EST up reply actions
Serious dude, ive never seen a fighter hand out a rear naked like Joe did to Kenny, sucks, cuz I was rootin for Joe hardcore.

Thanks guys…I would look at a career in MMA/BJJ analysis if it was guaranteed money. Plus its not usually a good idea to turn your hobby into your career. My problem is that I don’t pick fights apart nearly as much when they don’t interest me. Any of you who have trained in BJJ and MMA have learned to appreciate the technical details of the matches. If you haven’t then its still exciting asd hell, and you can learn some stuff just from watching it.
by --utaptout-- on Nov 25, 2008 9:46 PM EST up reply actions
Yeah, and before BJ did any of that in the SECOND round, Kenny had already disposed of Joe in the first. You make it seem like it happened wam bam thankyou mam, but it took BJ TWICE as long no matter how you slice it. Kenny is a big threat to BJ.
by Gord on Nov 26, 2008 12:51 AM EST up reply actions
or you could slice it by saying that Joe was able to take Kenny down in their fight, but he never even got the chance to take penn down in that fight.

BJ’s going to realize he’s not as good as he thinks he is on Jan.31.
by prophet on Nov 25, 2008 3:56 PM EST reply actions
BJ rules 155….top ten at 170 but I have a feeling GSP is going to steam role him back to 155…..BJ says he is serious now about his training don’t know what that means? he always gases past the 3rd and at 170 it is going to be worse
by Robert on Nov 25, 2008 4:03 PM EST reply actions
When is the last time BJ had a fight go past the 3rd round?
by --utaptout-- on Nov 25, 2008 6:58 PM EST up reply actions
When is the last time he really fought somebody the caliber of GSP,lets see how his cardio is when he is back up at 170,remember why he went back down ,because he knew it would be an easier division for him to win the title, and he could not beat the top of the 170 division,he was coming off 2 L’s,GSP and Hughes.
by scott on Nov 25, 2008 9:39 PM EST up reply actions
Thats a hard argument to refute. But alot of people said cardio would kill BJ against Jens, then Joe, then especially Sherk. All I can say is wait and see what happens. I’m not saying BJ is gonna crush GSP, but his cardio isn’t going to be an issue this time out.
by --utaptout-- on Nov 25, 2008 9:50 PM EST up reply actions
Like GSP said in an interview, “I AINT Sean Sherk”. Taking a full 3 rounds to finish Sherk, isn’t good enough to beat GSP. Guys like Tyson Griffon are going 3 rounds with Sherk also and Sherks face looked worse. Yeah, BJ got the knee and won, but still, if he is way ahead of all the LW’s he should be the one KOing Pulver in a matter of second, like 2 of the other 3 who fought him have recently. BJ should be taking Joe out in the first round, not Kenny. I know there is always going to be someone who gets a fluke, faster finish, but from what I have seen in BJ’s last 3 fights, is other guys doing as good or better than him against the same 3.

FIRST OF ALL BJ PENN IS DEFF. ON TOP OF THE 155LBS DIVISON. THE BJ WE ALL LOVE IS BACK!!!!! HES PROVING TO EVERYONE THAT HE IS BACK AND BETTER THAN EVER. BJ IS NOT DUCKING NEBODY OR TAKING THE EASY WAY OUT TO KEEP HIS TITLE. HE IS GOING OUT THERE TO SHOW WHY HE IS CONSIDER ONE OF THE GREATS!! GSP IS ALREADY MENTALLY SCARED. AND WE ALL SAW THAT AFTER THE FIGHT WITH FITCH WHEN BJ CALLED HIM OUT RESPECTIVELY. HE IS TRAINING BETTER AND TAKING HIS WORK SERIOUSLY NOW! THATS WHATS MAKING HIM SO DANGEROUS. HES PLAYING HIS CARDS RIGHT COMING INTO THIS FIGHT. HE MIGHT HAVE NOT FINISHED JOE DADDY OFF AS EASY AS KEN-FLO BUT THATS BECAUSE HES STICKING TO HIS GAMEPLAN AND GONNA FIND THERE SPOTS AND BREAK THEM DOWN IN ANYWAY JUST AS HE DID TO SHERK WHO KEN-FLO KEPT BEING CONTROLLED BY ON THE GROUND AND CUDNT DO NETHING BUT TRY TO END THE FIGHT WITH A CUT FROM AN ELBOW. KEN-FLO MUCH RESPECT TO HIM BY THE WAY HE DOES COME INTO FINISH A FIGHT. BUT WITH BJ HE HAS MANY WAYS TO FINISH A FIGHT. HE DOESNT JUST RELY ON JUST ONE OF HIS SKILLS. AND THATS WHATS GONNA MAKE IT A GREAT FIGHT WITH HIM AND GSP!!!! BOTH HAVE MANY WAYS TO END A FIGHT BUT BOTH FIGHTERS HAVE TO COME IN THIS FIGHT MENTALLY PREPARED AND THATS WHATS GONNA EFFECT GSP. HE DOESNT WANT ANOTHER SERRA HAPPENING. AND EVERYONE IS SAYING BJ PENN ISNT GONNA MAKE IT PAST THE 3RD ROUNDBECAUSE HIS CARDIO ISNT GONNA BE THAT GREAT. THIS IS THE NEW AND IMPROVED BJ WHOS NOT TAKIN NETHING FOR GRANTED. COME JAN.31ST HISTORY WILL BE MADE. WE WILL SEE WHY THESE 2 MEN ARE CONSIDER THE BEST P4P FIGHTERS IN THE WORLD!!!!!

i don’t think GSP is a liar. In fact, he ain’t.
He said it himself after the fight in that post-fight interview, A finger or a thumb has cut him. You see the replay many times? Look at GSP the way he acted after receiving the shot… it wasn’t a punch. I even remember Rogan said that it was a thumb right on the action and the guy must have seen thousand of fights live from a couple feets away.
Why do you think BJ never defend this?
come on now! That wasn’t a “punch cut”

I’ll put my $$ on BJ, I think it’s BS that they wont’ let him step up and challenge A.Silva if he beats GSP, who cares if he’s too small? They let Couture fight Lesnar so whats the big deal there?? The guys still crazy enough to do it and probably good enough to give him Silva a run for his money. Yeah…at the press conference Dana White said he wouldn’t let BJ fight Silva. He said of course its “possible” and BJ was willing, but he said he wouldn’t let it happen.

Wouldn’t it be some shit if after the fight Matt Hughes hops in the cage and tells the winner how “He was not impressed with your Per-Form-Ance”
i Think Bj Penn, GSP, Sean Sherk, Demian Maia, and Tito Ortiz should open a Gym Together!
by SoCalStunNa on Nov 25, 2008 5:08 PM EST reply actions
Well heres what i figure:
-Bj could help with ALL aspects with emphasis on jits and TD defense.
-GSP could help with ALL areas with emphasis on wrestling and GnP
-Sherk with boxing (former pro boxer) and Take downs and Strength and Conditioning
-MAIA with BJJ (Abu Dobi Champ), subs
-Ortiz with Wrestling, Conditioning, and overall great coach

Carnage all the blood came from the jab/thumb to the eye and bloody nose 2 hits, coming from the first two minutes of the fight. Penn fans counting on the same thing happening will be in for a disappointment. I remember all the serra fans on here too, and serra actually took gsp out, penn LOST according to 2 judges at least. I find the gassed excuse the lamest of all, anyone could use that excuse penn said he didn’t train properly for serra also which is just stupid, stamina is part of fighting. I actually think penn blew his wad against gsp more because of going nuts in the first round, the adrenaline and gsp wearing him down. The if he was in better shape he would have won doesn’t fly with me. Two people could train there ass’s off and one still have the superior cardio, I believe this to be true with penn and gsp, I believe gsp will always have better cardio than penn. Fitch is a monster and works harder than anyone out there and gsp wore him down, I find it laughable that people here actually think penn will wear gsp down. His only chance is to catch gsp with either a punch or a sub. Now gsp is a black belt and will most definitely be on top position it will be very hard for him to catch gsp. Standing he isn’t exactly easy to catch and I can almost guarantee this fight will be up and down like the serra fight with penn being much tougher than serra. I think gsp will win and win be surprised if penn wins this one the more I think about it.

It’s too bad that BJ is afraid of Matt Hughes. Shouldn’t he avenge that loss where he gassed first before taking on GSP?
by BJ eating McD's on Nov 25, 2008 5:42 PM EST reply actions
That’s the fight he wants bad….. just the other day heard him saying just that in an interview.
by Psyqo78®™ on Nov 25, 2008 6:49 PM EST up reply actions
this is probably the single most ignorant statement that Ive heard regarding BJ Penn. Yeah he’s afraid of Matt Hughes, the washed up never was that he owned the first time they fought, and then was a few seconds away from submitting the second time, even though he had a separated rib.

“bj would beat hughes in 1 rnd now.”
I’m praying Serra does that.
Send Hughes out of town crying.
by charles on Nov 25, 2008 8:29 PM EST up reply actions
What is sad ,is Matt Hughes would beat him again, and Hughes is washed up,BJ does not even deserve this fight. They did not give Silva an immediate title shot at 205,now did they and that is who the UFC says is the best P4P fighter
by scott on Nov 25, 2008 9:48 PM EST up reply actions
Scott, You’re dillusional if you think Hughes could beat BJ again. BJ won the WW title from Hughes at UFC 46, which coinidentally was GSP’s octagon debut against Karo Parysian. He’s fought at 170 before and deserves to try it again. Especially to avenge a loss that was a razor thin split decision. And just because the UFC SAYS A. Silva is #1 P4P, doesn’t make it true. I’m not getting drawn into that debate again though.

I say the same thing for gsp, his excuses for losing to serra were lame, he should have shut up and just admit he lost to the better fighter that night and got caught end of story. Both penn and gsp are very prideful and take losing extremely hard which is why they need excuses for poor performances like there fans do to make themselves feel better.
by nathan on Nov 25, 2008 5:54 PM EST reply actions
well said. both fighters have used virtually the same excuses for losing. when gsp lost to serra, he said that he let success go to his head and didnt train as hard for serra b/c everyone was saying that serra didnt stand a chance and gsp was too good. after bj lost to gsp and hughes, he used the same kind of excuses. he said that everyone was always telling him how great he was, how he wasnt taking training seriously, partying too much etc. both fighters came back with a vengance and proved that those excuses were probably valid, yet gsp is labled as being mentally weak and bj gets a pass. i dont get that. there the same excuses. looks like niether will have any excuses come their next fight.

With Emelianenko, A.Silva, GSP and BJ, this is the age of kings in the history of the sport. I don’t think that we will see such dominated champions in so many weight class at the same time for next decades.

wow Penn is so friggen full of himself..how does he get that ego through a door?
what a great chumpion he has been..instead of taking care of business in his own division, he has to let his ego get the best of him again!
IF he wins he sez he will defend BOTH titles…oh joy, more clusterfuck for not one but two divisions…
I think BJ is awesome, it would be nice if he were to be a fighting champ in the LW’s instead of being the spoiled brat he is and I cannot wait til Florian deflates his giant head and brings him down to earth…
With the UFC now doing WWE matches instead of relying on some sort of ranking system, they have denegrated to match ups that net the most fan dollars…screw the fighters, they should just be happy to have a job (who cares if they get treated like shit if they don’t tow the company line)..Dana must have went to Vinny Mac University
Imagine how fans of hockey, football, baseball would feel if the powers that be decided who was going to the big shows instead of it being earned on merit…
seems like Zuffa cares more aboot $$$$ then the sport itself….
just my humble opinion

I disagree. Deserving fighters will get their shots. Florian,Sherk, Huerta, Griffing at lightweight and Thiago at welterweight, possibly Yashida if he gets past Kos and Sanchez eventually. Just a matter of time.
by Kdog on Nov 26, 2008 5:17 AM EST up reply actions
if BJ wins, and I doubt he will, but if he does it will suck cause each belt will only be defended once a year.
Lame….
by charles on Nov 25, 2008 8:24 PM EST reply actions
Florian will get a hot in the spring, and then Alves shortly after. If BJ beats GSP, I think he beats Florian, and then vacates the LW belt, due to lack of competition. Florian is the only guy at 55 to pose him a threat, and its a small one. He’ll have no reason to stay in the division. If BJ didn’t decide to move up and fight at 170, he would be known in a couple years as the “Anderson Silva” of the LW division. IMHO, he is already the greastest LW of all time, and I bet theres a few GSP fans that will agree with me. And many more that will call me a “nuthugger”.
by --utaptout-- on Nov 25, 2008 10:11 PM EST up reply actions
Agreed with the Being the Anderson Silva of the LW division, however i can;t see BJ voluntarily giving up the LW belt. I say if BJ wins (could go either way depending on the night) then let that melon head confident sonuva bitch keep going after any belt he wants till he loses. whats the harm in putting him up against Anderson Silva (should he beat GSP). AS long as EACH belt is defended once a year (Cmon think about it, how long could he hold all simultaneously) then let him. it would be fun to watch (while it lasted)
by SoCalStunNa on Nov 26, 2008 1:58 AM EST up reply actions

by nathan on Nov 25, 2008 11:10 PM EST reply actions
Jonsey what you say is laughable gsp isn’t scared of penn, why would he call out the light weight champ someone he’s already beaten? Gsp openly says right to Penns face he’s a better fighter than him, and is very confident in himself. If anything I think gsp is over confident more than anything, he thought fitch was the toughest test of his career and he had already fought penn so what does that tell you? I’m not a bj hater just not a bj fan, I don’t deny he’s a good fighter I would just like to see him really prove he’s the best at lightweight, clean out the division, vacate his belt and move up to welter weight and earn a shot at the title by beating the top welter weight contenders like everyone else. Thats just me, he sure as hell hasn’t earned it, thiago is 10 times more deserving of it than penn, hell karo deserves it more than penn does. I highly doubt gsp is afraid of anyone, his only concern is lack of performing like he should in the ring. Gsp has no lack of confidence like penn he’s overconfident and penn is ridiculously over confident and would fight anderson silva at the drop of a hat would get destroyed in the first round and go back to the light weight division were he belongs with his tail between his legs. Penns definitely a fighter not the sharpest knife in the drawer but a fighter with that killer instinct, who doesn’t know when he’s in over his head.
by nathan on Nov 25, 2008 11:29 PM EST reply actions
Sad, Penns sharper than you think, it’s GSP that everyone agrees isnt right in his mind, ill quote several people in saying " The only thing beating GSP is himself". Wht do you think all these people mean by this? That his mind (and chin) are weak. BJ has a killer instinct like you said but you act like thats all he has, he has the BEST ground in the WORLD. His standup is not great but well on its way there and has always been good (even when out of shape) standing, but now he actualy trains with a mit man, never had one of those in his camp before, just Rudy. As a fan i say “all this time with Rudy, a Kickboxing coach, and no friggin KICKS!!” I want the kick added to his arsenal as much as the GSP fans love to harp that he doesnt have them. It doesnt worry me, what hes got will kepp me as a fan, for quite some time im sure. But its GSP thats not so sharp, BJ kills him in all aspects of the mental game besides having an easy gameplan cause it BJ GSP is fighting, everyone has the same GP for Penn LoL, hes not some master mind dude. Hell Penn is so focused he doesnt even sit between rounds anymore.
by ( (AdamG ) ) on Nov 26, 2008 12:00 AM EST up reply actions
bj won the stand up in their first match not that it’s of any real relevance this time around. the truth is i really don’t know who is gonna win but i don’t like gsp as a person. he’s dull and has a monotone voice and his accent annoys me. he reminds me of vern troyer and jean claude vann damme combined. bj is my 3rd favorite fighter and theres no one in lw or ww that i’d pull for over him. i’ve never seen him cut, bruised or even rocked and i think he’s gonna do all 3 to gsp but ya never know.
by jonsey on Nov 26, 2008 11:48 AM EST up reply actions
for the record, gord will be referred to as mandy moore or gspenis from now on.
by jonsey on Nov 26, 2008 3:15 PM EST reply actions
When I said penn is not the sharpest knife in the draw I think hands down gsp is smarter than penn is what I meant. Is a rotwhiller intelligent?? thats what I meant. Chuck liddell has been ko’d 1 time in 27 fights, don’t say something can’t happen. Serra has 1 tko in his career to one of the best strikers in the division, just cause something hasn’t happened yet how can you say it can’t, you better knock on wood because you might be jinxing penn. Who the f**k could have predicted cro cop get ko’d by a head kick in the first round, crazy. I guarantee you penn is human and can get cut and bruised and bleed. Some fighters faces are harder to bruise like if they have a fat face compared to a bony one with finer features. Big f**king deal blood is over rated, one small cut can cause a blood bath. So if the bloodied up fighter kicks the shit out of the guy who cuts him the bloodiest guy should be the winner. Its based on effective striking, grappling and octagon control per round, penn cry’s its not the take down championships, but take downs are part of octagon control being on top is a dominant position and if the guy on the bottom does nothing he shouldn’t be crying about it. Penn did f**k all in rounds 2 and 3 and he knows it. Watch when penn is asked if he won the fight and he is always ambiguous about it, gsp is clear and says he feels he won rounds 2 and 3 and so do 60-70% of the people watching out there think and I’m one of them.

i’ve train with penn, his technique gets better and better. gsp is a great fighter. i would like to say bj has this. but he has to try his ass off if he wants it. it’ll be a hell of a fight but i believe penn will win with a submission. for anderson and machida, if the fight stays standing, anderson will win but machida would beat him on the ground. anderson is the best at the moment but he’s still getting better.
