UFC Quick Quote: 'Extreme Makeover' Rampage Jackson UFC 92 edition

rampage wolfsliar

"You will never have seen the Rampage you're going to see at UFC 92. This is Rampage who has been training with top sparring partners and top experts in all the various fields, top conditioners, top strength and diet experts like Kerry Kayes. This is the Rampage who is going to win back his UFC Title and defend it for years."

-- Quinton "Rampage" Jackson has enlisted the services of Kerry Kayes -- the long-time strength and nutrition coach for Ricky Hatton and other star athletes in the Manchester area -- to help get him fit for his upcoming clash with Wanderlei Silva at UFC 92: "The Ultimate 2008" on December 27. Kayes has more than 40 years experience in the field and now serves as a consultant at Rampage's new gym, Wolf's Laire MMA. His manager, Anthony McGann, tells the Telegraph that the addition of Kayes is already paying dividends -- we could see Rampage 2.0 on New Year's Eve weekend if indeed accurate. And he'll need to be in the best shape of his life if he intends to defeat "The Axe Murderer" for the first time in three attempts.

I’m pulling for Wand in this one. Hope it ends like the first two fights. First to pop this forums cherry;)

Mania, thanks for the extended UFC 92 coverage. Much Appreciated!

IM about to Keep it real. I dont know who will win this fight. I dont even know who to root for. Here is what I do know:

I know that Wanderlei is a BAD match up for Rampage. Any fighter will tell you that it isnt easy fighting a guy who has already KO’ed you Brutally. Wanderlei will be in his head.

On the Flip side, I know that its been years since the last wandy vs. Rampage fight. Since that time Rampage is the fighter that has improved the most.

I also know that out of Rampage and Wanderlei, Rampage would have the best chance of winning the title and keeping it for a while (easier said than done in the UFC LHW division). Wanderlei’s small frame will have him mismatched against some of the UFC’s HUGE LHW’s…THen again Wandy is infamous for fighting top level Heavyweights back in Pride.

Call this fight however you like….Its a toss up!

by john on Nov 23, 2008 10:34 AM EST up reply actions

It is a toss up john. I think Wandy could do more at MW. But he can handle his own at LHW. I hope to see another vicious KO by Wandy!

by JV on Nov 23, 2008 10:45 AM EST up reply actions

It wouldn’t have been a toss up 5 years ago (certainly wasn’t the way it panned out) but Rampage has improved drastically so maybe it is now. No one can say for sure what’s going to happen. Very excited for this one, can’t wait. Love the ones that are too tight to call. That being said, I’m predicting Wanderlei for the hell of it.

by RobH86 on Nov 23, 2008 12:04 PM EST up reply actions

My prediction: Rampage for the hell of it!:)

by Syd[a.k.a. "The Negation"] on Nov 23, 2008 10:35 PM EST up reply actions

Wandy has got to be in his head right now, and that has to be a scary place. I stated when they announced this fight that I have NO INTEREST in seeing it. Yet. Honestly, IMO, Rampage needs a “warm-up” bout after losing his title and going thru all that cr@p. I still find it laughable with the whole “no sleep/energy drinks” made me do it defense. LMFAO. That’s almost as bad as the twinkie defense, which actually worked. He had to be going thru SERIOUS problems to conduct himself in that manner. And that’s where the problem is. His head. And fighting Silva again could be bad for his phyical as well as mental health.

by chefdaddy on Nov 23, 2008 1:33 PM EST up reply actions

chefdaddy — If you have a new and brilliant explanation for Rampage’s behavior than what was offered, then by all means tell everyone. Otherwise, I found the explanation more than adequate, having intimate familiarity with the effects wacky blood sugar levels and behavior. (Diabetes in the family; I’ve seen it all.)

by MMACrossifre on Nov 23, 2008 1:48 PM EST up reply actions

Either I didn’t make my point clearly or you missed it. It isn’t simply the lack of sleep and energy drinks. It is what led someone to do something so bizarre/stupid/ridiculous. Wacky blood sugar? Whatever. It is the mental problems that led up to it that are the major concern. see my point? He was acting strangely in interviews the week before the fight. Seeming delusional, referring to himself in the wrong person (and I can’t remember clearly, but I thought he had referred to himself as God or jesus or something. ) That type of thing isn’t caused by a betrayal by a friend, energy drinks and no sleep, they certainly didn’t help though.

by chefdaddy on Nov 23, 2008 2:05 PM EST up reply actions

If you watch the TUF series again he gets wackier throughout the show. Do you remember him sleeping in and his reason?
I’m with you Chef, something was not right well before the fight and I just hope he is over it or Silva will murder him.

by MoonUK on Nov 23, 2008 2:33 PM EST up reply actions

Actually, sleep deprivation has been shown to be detrimental to health and the ability to function properly. An estimated 20 percent of American traffic accidents are attributed to driver fatigue; furthermore, a significant loss of REM sleep leads to temporary psychosis. I’m not saying that he should be let off the hook, just that you should consider his impaired state of mind before you label him as a monster.

by BlazinArrow89 on Nov 23, 2008 2:59 PM EST up reply actions

Yes, MoonUK. For me, while obviously I don’t the intimate in’s and out’s of the situation, there are safety issues than are greater than normal in this fight. Hopefully his mental stability is no longer a concern, thus enabling to not only compete, but keep himself from severe harm. B/c if his head isn’t right heading into this, it could turn particularly nasty in a way that most of us would NOT want to see.

by chefdaddy on Nov 23, 2008 3:31 PM EST up reply actions

Once again Chef, i couldn’t agree more with your sentiment. I have been bashing this fight since before it was official. Also all this talk of best trainer and sparring partners is bs. He is in england for christ sake. Bisping and Kongo does not equal to guys at Xtreme couture. Most fighters leave europe and come to the US to step up their training not the other way around.

by NameNotRequired on Nov 23, 2008 3:41 PM EST up reply actions

Who labeled him a monster BlazinArrow? Sleep deprivation, lack of REM……WHY did he deprive himself of sleep and drink energy drinks IS MY POINT. MY POINT is bound to the fact that SOMETHING WAS WRONG WHICH LED TO HIM DRINKING THE DRINKS AND NOT SLEEPING. They exacerbated the problem!!!!!! They were NOT the problems in and of themselves.

by chefdaddy on Nov 23, 2008 4:21 PM EST up reply actions

oh….and that’s not yelling. lol. I capitalize my letters to show emphasis, not to “raise my voice.” So no insult intended.

by chefdaddy on Nov 23, 2008 4:22 PM EST up reply actions

what Chef is trying to say is….its not like a disease came over him and caused him to go crazy….His troubles were self inflicted. He CHOSE not to sleep! He CHOSE to consume tons of energy drinks…..decisions. I am not Bashing Rampage….he is one of my favorites…. THe only reason I am not hyping him up so much lately is cause he is fighting Wandy, another one of my favorites which makes rooting for either fighter impossible!

by john on Nov 23, 2008 5:30 PM EST up reply actions

chef and johnny boy, tag-team partners, hehe!

by Syd[a.k.a. "The Negation"] on Nov 23, 2008 10:38 PM EST up reply actions

for christs sake this is a grown man were talking about, i hope wandy ko’s him because this guy needs a serious wake up call, driving around killin babies after a loss and then blaming it on god, lack of sleep and energy drinks fuckin grow up or get ko’d, fuckin man up rampage and stop talkin shit about wandy!

by Colin D on Nov 24, 2008 4:05 AM EST up reply actions

I actually thought that all those bragging about being first in a forum, had all grown up and finally matured, and that making a point of stating that pointless claim, was all dead and buried. Why would you want to start that immature crap up again?

by Ade on Nov 24, 2008 4:08 AM EST up reply actions

Anyone see the Kim Couture fight? It was a travesty! THat girl had no business being in their with Kim. THat poor girl was scared to death and did not want to fighT!

by john on Nov 23, 2008 11:12 AM EST reply actions

I saw it, but what tripped me out the most was what Smith said after he KO’d Martin. He said: “Shout out to one of my friends at home. Tom Atencio couldnt make it. He went to Canada to get married. Congrats to him and his life partner (LANCE?)” WTF? Lance? Atencio is g@y?

by JV on Nov 23, 2008 11:29 AM EST up reply actions

that appeared to be obvious to me.. hehe.. did u see the way he hugged fedor after his win?

by shamo84 on Nov 23, 2008 12:20 PM EST up reply actions

Would you have taken notice if it was to marry a woman?

by Jon on Nov 23, 2008 3:10 PM EST up reply actions

Of course he would have. A gay guy marrying a woman in Canada would be insane.

by James S on Nov 24, 2008 6:39 PM EST up reply actions

I am glad Rampage is training with the best MW in the world Bisping, I hope Bispings skill will wear of on Rampage so he can beat that little caveman wendy.

by Bigmcmac on Nov 23, 2008 11:39 AM EST reply actions

Hahahaha…Nice.

I’m going to say Wanderlei on this one. He must be in Rampage’s head. Must be extremely tough mentally stepping into the octagon against someone who has brutally KTFO’ed you twice before. The image that sticks in my mind is Quinton out cold tangled in the ropes.

Gotta say Wanderlei, though I don’t mind who wins really. I’d be just as happy either way.

by RobH86 on Nov 23, 2008 12:01 PM EST up reply actions

wait are you saying that bisping is the best MW in the world? plz explain how he’s better than half the MW in the UFC right now Maia- Palherez, Henderson, and of course the Champ Silva

by ricky on Nov 23, 2008 1:11 PM EST up reply actions

ricky, and ironfist 55 (cool comic by the way), let me tell you now that it is IMPOSSIBLE to debate with a Bisping fan. They tend to be completely illogical regarding what they view as Jesus’ second coming.

by chefdaddy on Nov 23, 2008 1:36 PM EST up reply actions

I think it has to be a joke. Can someone really believe that Bisping is the best MW in the world? How can that even be justified?

by Psyqo78 on Nov 23, 2008 1:58 PM EST up reply actions

I actually refuse to debate that subject anymore unless a fight, or 15 minute jabbing backpedal/runaway scramble is scheduled.

by chefdaddy on Nov 23, 2008 3:33 PM EST up reply actions

Are you out of your mind? Bisping, best MW in the world? … Either you’re British, blind or don’t know anything about mma or its ranks.

Bisping’s been a part of a few good fights but I’ve never seen him completely dominate or destroy anyone in either LHW or MW divisions. He BARELY got past Leben widely considered the gate keeper into the top 10.

You got guys like Anderson Silva, who many regard as top pound for pound fighter in the world, Damien Maia, Ricardo Almeida, Dan Henderson, Rich Franklin, Denis Kang who just signed a 4 fight deal with the UFC… Bisping is no where close to the best.

Rampage vs. Wand will be a close fight, but Wand will come away the victor.

Lindland??

by Mrs.Featherbottom on Nov 23, 2008 3:56 PM EST up reply actions

Misaki?? Hello people, Robbie Lawler!! There is a middleweight division not in the UFC. In fact, quite a few interesting matchups for AS. I for one would have Kaz and Lindland as favorites going ion to their fight with Anderson.

by Mrs.Featherbottom on Nov 23, 2008 3:58 PM EST up reply actions

lindland vs Anderson? Hmmmmm……interesting. Very interesting!!! When was the last time Lindland fought? He could be pretty rusty.

by chefdaddy on Nov 23, 2008 7:23 PM EST up reply actions

Are you talking about Kaz Nakamura?

by Syd[a.k.a. "The Negation"] on Nov 23, 2008 10:42 PM EST up reply actions

No, Misaki.

by Mrs.Featherbottom on Nov 23, 2008 10:49 PM EST up reply actions

Its sickening to see this man evading prisontime and not serving a day, whereas you or me would have been put in there for atleast 5 years. I hope Wandy puts him in a permanent coma.

by Longsilver on Nov 23, 2008 1:02 PM EST reply actions

It’s all about connections bro. Use ’em…

wanderlei deserves to win this

by arubian on Nov 23, 2008 1:07 PM EST reply actions

I just hope it is a back and forth war! It has the potential to be a close fight or end in a brutal KO. I personally like both and can see this having a different outcome than before.Hopefull the “old” Wandy and the “new” Page show up.

by Psyqo78 on Nov 23, 2008 1:44 PM EST reply actions

I GOT RAMPAGE WINING BY BRUTAL KO I DON’T SEEING THE OLD WANDY HERE BECAUSE HE IS NOT IN ROID SINCE HE MOVE TO THE UFC AND JARDINE IS CLOWN SO GIVE ME A BREAK

by ALEX on Nov 23, 2008 2:10 PM EST reply actions

Very coherent…Thanks for your view though.:)

by Syd[a.k.a. "The Negation"] on Nov 23, 2008 10:44 PM EST up reply actions

Wandy by brutal violence.

Not only does he win because he’s the better fighter, but it’s karma for the way Page behaved and the consequences of his actions.

by r/p on Nov 23, 2008 2:11 PM EST reply actions

Rampage deserves this! he is great for MMA it would be so nice to see Rampage get back to the title!

WAR RAMPAGE!!!

by skelow on Nov 23, 2008 3:17 PM EST reply actions

What Rampage is talking about by the way is that he is going to lay&hump Wandy for 3rounds, which is very possible.

by Khaos_Warrior on Nov 23, 2008 3:27 PM EST reply actions

I’ll believe it when I see it. But let’s be honest, this is Wolf’s Lair we’re talking about here…

by Speedy on Nov 23, 2008 3:49 PM EST reply actions

YAWN!! Another year and it seems another transformation of Rampage. I don’t give a fuck if he went and trained with Sun Tzu. The fans demanded this fight, Rampage doesn’t deserve the shot. Hendo/Wandy 3 and Franklin/Page would have been just as exciting and much more logical.

by Mrs.Featherbottom on Nov 23, 2008 3:54 PM EST reply actions

I would like to see Shogun vs. Rampage II sooner.

by Space on Nov 23, 2008 8:45 PM EST up reply actions

rampage by KO, round 1, via headbutt. that is the preferred north-england finishing move..

by Hardcase on Nov 23, 2008 4:10 PM EST reply actions

an extreme makeover? so Quinton isn’t going to try and wrestle Wanderlei down?

by sbud on Nov 23, 2008 4:50 PM EST reply actions

Rampage proves all the haters wrong.
Sorry Wandy. (in my Jesse Ventura voice)“It’s payback time!”

by Ground-Game on Nov 23, 2008 5:52 PM EST reply actions

This is what they say about Rampage all the time every time! my training was shitty before but i got it together now. No more fuckin excuses, just man up already. I really hope wandy knocks you out for talking all that shit about him, yes Rampage you should be scared, very scared because your gonna wake up after a big left hook and wonder what the hell happened…. Mazagatti cant save you from that my little friend, the shit clock’s tickin Rampage, even sexy guys get knocked out and sent to jail Rampage…theyd love you in there..

by Colin D on Nov 23, 2008 5:55 PM EST reply actions

Rampage is gonna beat up all the convicts there if ever…

by Syd[a.k.a. "The Negation"] on Nov 23, 2008 10:47 PM EST up reply actions

Last time I checked when these two fought Rampage took Wandy down both times and was beating him, and in both fights, it was stood up due to Pride Politics. Wandy is a star in japan, they wanted him to win. Plus there is no drug testing in japan. I like both fighters, but you have to be blind as George Bush, to not see it was stood up when it should not have been. For many reasons both of those fights where not fair fights. Page will take Wandy down again, but this time it wont be stood up unfairly. It could go either way, but with Rampage improving a lot since then, and them fighting for the firt time, I repeat first time on a fair playing field, Im thinking Rampage wins. Likely.

by Payaam on Nov 23, 2008 7:04 PM EST reply actions

I don’t get the matchmaking! does no good at all for their careers, they lose more on this matchup than they gain on it. I can not see any other reason with this matchup than that they want to make money on it while they can! It’s at the wrong time in both of their careers, well mostly wrong for Rampage b/c he just got off a loss, and Wanderlei just got his first win in like 4 fights, why not let Rampage get some confidence back and let Wanderlei take his place in the UFC’s LHW division before they let them fight when they’re both at the top so the loser won’t have such a long way back.

by RoB on Nov 23, 2008 7:29 PM EST reply actions

They put it together because Rampage has been lobbying for this fight, he wants to avenge the losses to Wand. Wand has no reason no to take it, he has beaten Quiton twice, and a victory here puts him in title contention. Plus it’s a big money fight. Whoever wins would be a good fight for the winner of Forrest v Rashad. This fight makes sense to me. These guys all want to be considered the best, high risk fights are the only way to accomplish that.

by MongoMan on Nov 24, 2008 2:12 AM EST up reply actions

I GOING TO SEND THE RECORD STRAIT RAMPAGE WAS BEATING THE SHIT OUT WANDI BUT HE GOT HELP FROM THE JAPANESE REFEREES WHY BECAUSE HE WAS THE STAR AND ALL THE MONEY WAS ON WANDY PLUS HE WAS IN STEROIDS A LOT DIRTY STUFF HAPPEN IN THOSE PRIDE DAYS ANY ONE WHO HAVE BEEN COMPETING KNOWN WHEN SOMEBODY IS ON ROIDS SO PLEASE STOP THE BS AND WHEN THIS FIGHT FINISH GIVE WANDY TO HENDERSON SO HE CAN BEAT THE SHIT OUT HIM AGAIN= JOE SILVA PLEASE MAKE HAPPEN
