Mac Danzig vs Josh Neer UFC Fight Night 17 fight possible for Feb. 7

There's a solid lightweight match up looming between Mac Danzig (18-5-1) and Josh Neer (24-7-1) at UFC Fight Night 17 at a yet to be determined venue in Las Vegas, Nevada, on February 7.
It's a 155-pound tilt that will make the televised Spike TV broadcast on fight night, according to a recent message from Danzig on his MySpace.com page.
Danzig -- season six welterweight winner of The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) -- is coming off a frustrating unanimous decision loss to Clay Guida at UFC Fight Night 15 back in September. "The Carpenter's" relentless cardio and wrestling proved to be just to much for Danzig to overcome.
Prior to the loss he submitted Brazilian jiu-jitsu specialist Mark Bocek with a rear naked choke at UFC 83: "Serra vs. St. Pierre 2" in April. He stopped Tommy Speer in similar fashion before that to earn the TUF crown nearly one year ago.
This will be the fourth fight for mixed martial arts veteran inside the Octagon. And it's not getting any easier with opponents like "The Dentist."
Neer is also looking to rebound from a loss at UFC Fight Night 15 -- he dropped a tight split decision to Nate Diaz in a fight that was awarded with "Fight of the Night."
A five-year veteran of the sport, Neer is no slouch on the ground or on his feet —- 10 of his wins have come via submission, with 10 more coming via (technical) knockout. After posting a 2-3 record in the UFC, Neer won six of seven fights outside the promotion before returning to the Octagon and defeating Din Thomas by unanimous decision at UFC Fight Night 13.
In addition to Thomas, Neer holds wins over UFC veterans Joe Stevenson, Melvin Guillard and Forrest Petz.

This isnt a bad match up at all, but its between 2 fighters I really dont care for. If I had to root for one of them it would probably be the dentist.
I just cant get the image of Mach Sakurai knocking Mac the F out back in Pride. that was a great KO!!!!

I don’t really mind Danzig now that I don’t have to see him on TV every week, but I really like Josh Neer. I hope he beats the shit outta Mac. Neer by decision.

and he’s a vegetarian or vegan. hehehehhee. No, bad joke. I like vegetables. They’re what I pick at when I’m done with my steak. No, another bad joke. danzig came across as, I don’t know if jerk is the right word, but close to it. And when he wasn’t that he had the personality/voice inflection of an average houseplant.

I’m not a huge fan of either of these guys, but I’m looking forward to this fight. Both guys are tough and well-rounded, so this fight should be really entertaining. I see it being pretty evenly matched whether on the feet or the ground, but I’m leaning toward Mac winning a close decision.

Mac is a smug, self-righteous douchebag. He acted like he was God’s gift to MMA when he went into the TUF house with about 20 pro fights, including a bunch in PRIDE, and beat a bunch of dudes who came in 1-0 or 2-1. Then he got his smug ass whipped by the gatekeeper of all gatekeepers.

Mac only had 1 fight in PRIDE, and he got KTFO by Mach Sakurai. He was most known for fighting in King of the Cage. He was “confident” while and the house, as he should have been. He was by far the best fighter in the house that season, and there is only like 1 other fighter from that season still in the UFC besides himself, Ben Saunders.

Didn’t need to “verify”. Just used my head/knowledge.
One is a long way off from “a bunch” especially for those that read the forum but don’t know the facts.
Plus there was like a 4 year span where Mac Danzig and CrazyHorse Bennett were the two highest profile fighters in thier promotion and the PPV channel would ALWAYS have them in their KOTC commercials.

Danzig could wipe The Dentist out of the UFC. I like his stand-up lately. I just don’t know how he’ll do on the ground for Neer himself ain’t no slouch on the ground.

Josh Neer was really respectful in his fight with Diaz and he put up a good fight too. His good sportsmanship made me an instant fan of his after that fight.

This is a fight between the losers of the co-main events of last Fight Night. I think Diaz vs Guida would be much more interesting.

i dont. diaz would destroy guida. he would just completely pick him apart with his reach advantage, then, whenever he felt the need, he would take him down and submit him. probably with relative ease.

A lot of you guys are gonna be disappointed when Mac TKO’s Neer. Danzig isn’t a jerk, he’s actually an easy-going guy. Any of you all having to deal with a bunch of TUF 7 morons for weeks on end would have been annoyed, too.
