I don’t think the frenchie’s have the sense of humor to mess with bj that much…or the balls!

We will get BJ hooked on poutine and he will come in fat and out of shape for the fight.

by NorthStar on Nov 23, 2008 8:25 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Northstar, all I have to do is think about poutine and my cholesterol goes up 50 points. That stuff is a heart attack waiting to happen. lol

Montreal is the comedy capital of Canada; sense of humor and balls aren’t in question, just a matter of time! Muahaha

Some street vendors here use cat meat for a Chinese delicacy called siopao…Haven’t tried it yet though…

by Syd[a.k.a. "The Negation"] on Nov 23, 2008 9:38 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

siopao and manapua are practically the same thing. Siopao is usually made with pork or chicken.

different cultures different foods. lol. Not sure I could do it. There are a LOT of books I’ve read and tv shows I’ve seen (most notable: Bizarre foods with Andrew Zimmern and No Reservations with Anthony Bourdain) where guys go to different countries and eat EVERYTHING that culture offers. Cat is mild compared to some of the stuff they ingest (raw seal eyeballs, fermented, putrid shark). Makes interesting viewing!

((adam g)) posted this up a while ago, as we all know he loves “bj bj bj” and dislikes gsp. Poor gsp he’s too nice of a guy, I would laugh if he punched the guy in the face and then went after penn and pummled him too LOL.

BJ! BJ! BJ! BJ! BJ!

Everybody now!….. BJ! BJ! BJ!

I like GSP, but not when he is fighting BJ. Is it just me or does GSP look like a normal sized version of Vern Troyer (mini me)???? lol

THANKS BRO! I do it cause when im arguing with someone on here it more times than not feels like the person im arguing with really has no idea who or what BJ Penn is all about, they saw the Hughes fight, went back and rented the GSP fight, and watched him on TUF and think thats all BJ . . . He was beyond different when i first became a fan of his many years ago, no talking at all (too stoned) just not that kind of person at all. He would run to the ring 80% of the time, regardless of the country or state hes fighting in its all about Hawaii now, it wasnt like that before ya know. He has goals now, its crazy, but for most of the people that thiunk they know something about BJ, they’re wrong. RESEARCH! AND word up to that, ive got the keys and this wagons loading up so jump on board, i think i lost my navigator just before the Sherk fight, pussed out on me, forget who that was, but new blood is always welcome . . . Just dont touch the radio! BJ BJ BJ!!!

And another thing they are going a little over board advertising this fight for gods sake its over 2 months away and I’m already getting sick of seeing penn/gsp threads. I almost don’t care who wins this damn fight already I hope to god its not controversial because we’ll never hear the end of it.

by nathan on Nov 23, 2008 6:59 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

i agree with the “Hope To God It’s Not Controversial.” Too big of a fight and too much hype behind this already….we would truely never hear the end of it…for god sakes the first fight is still HOTLY debated!

anyways like ive said….this fight has the POTENTIAL to be the biggest fight of the decade…..We Will See.

by SoCalStunNa on Nov 23, 2008 8:22 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

IT’s cool to see Penn and Pierre kinda laughin it up together though. This is a much better example of this sports athletes. These guys are set to fight and try to kill each other and here they are, laughin as one eats “cat” haha.
We probably get along worse on these threads then those two guys in person.

by The Anomaly on Nov 23, 2008 7:06 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Good point, as St. Pierre already said this fight is so big that it’s going to sell itself. It’s great to see these guys together promoting the sport and experiencing some of each other’s cultures. As the fight gets closer we might not be seeing them quite as friendly towards each other, but it’s great to see this side of two amazing fighters.

by GregC on Nov 24, 2008 12:40 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Its like Ali/Frazier, i hope they do for the sport what those men did for theirs! But which is Ali and which is Frazier, judging by body its a simple question to answer huh, but judging by mind, spirit and mouth is not so simple huh = ) BJ BJ ALI!!!

by ( (AdamG ) ) on Nov 24, 2008 11:01 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

But Ali and Frazier were not friendly to each other at all?

In that movie they were, behind the scenes at least (out of the public eye). . .

by ( (AdamG ) ) on Nov 25, 2008 12:48 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

The biggest travesty in all of this is both penn and Pierre are argubly two of the biggest names in the sport right now and both of thier base salaries combined will not amount to 500,000

just today I read that Margarito turned down 2 million to fight mosely

and the best part is boxing PPV #‘s pail in comparison to UFC PPv #’s and boxers are still making 5 times the amount of money as the biggest stars in the UFC how the hell does that work

bisggest boxing match of 2008 cotto/margarito drew 450,000 PPV buys

biggest mma fight of 2008 couture/lesnar reports are starting to come in that it will be over 1 mill buys and no less that 850,000 buys

by dia mette on Nov 23, 2008 7:35 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

You’ve already seen the payouts for UFC 94? Wow, you’re good.

Don’t worry, they’re going to be paid very well for this fight. And their full payout won’t come solely from the fight itself.

by R-Dizzle on Nov 23, 2008 7:39 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Turned down the fight? That’s what happens when fighters make multiple millions every fight…they just stop fighting.

exzctly. he killed his own point.

by b.w. on Nov 23, 2008 10:03 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

no he didn’t in boxing the fighters actually think of it more as a business, and the reason that boxers are making more money is because they get like 50-60 percent of the revenue and the UFC gives like 5%

by RoB on Nov 24, 2008 11:05 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

the point is, some of the big name boxers are overpaid, wich makes them lazy and only want to fight once a year. only a small % of boxers are making that kind of money. the %5 you are talking about is the amount that the ufc makes public, not what the fighters actually make. trust me dude, i have forgotten more about boxing and its corrupt politics than you will ever know. if top-name mma fighters were making 5-10 $million per fight, how often do you think they would want to fight per year. Marcus Davis was a pro boxer for a few years and fought on espn2 several times and admits he makes alot more in mma than he ever did in boxing.

by b.w. on Nov 24, 2008 1:36 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I could be wrong, but I thought that a boxer’s manager tends to take a MUCH bigger chunk of a fighter’s purse than an MMA fighter’s manager does?

I know Don King did. haha

by Flyingknees on Nov 23, 2008 11:14 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Jrandolph being a big gsp nut hugger and canadian I for one am not looking forward to a gsp/anderson fight right now. Other than patrick cote silva completely destroyed his opponents and outweighs gsp by about 25 lbs. It all depends on how he handles penn and if he gets past penn and then it would depend on how he handles alves. I’m not really a fan of this champion vs champion stuff as it potentially could tie up the two divisions for a long time which sucks. To be honest people should forget silva right now, I think either thiago or penn would be a handful for gsp right now and for once gsp wouldn’t be fighting a guy he’s better at in all area’s. On paper serra has better bjj but it sure as hell didn’t look like it in there fight he looked terrible. Koscheck was also supposed to be a better wrestler than gsp but look what happened. I think what gsp is best at is putting all the disciplines together in a mma fight and making them work. I think silvas striking, size and range is a little to much for gsp IMO. To me thiago strikes harder than gsp and for the first time he’s fighting someone who is bigger and more muscular than him thiago out weights him by 15 or more pounds. I think penn has faster hand’s (at least in the first round) and is obviously better at bjj than gsp. These next two guys IMO will be the toughest test’s of gsp’s career, forget silva gsp needs to get past these guys first.

by nathan on Nov 23, 2008 10:16 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

I remember Joe Rogan saying that GSP could take down the fighters in his camp at will in training, but that they could not do the same to him. When you consider who some of the light heavyweight fighters are in his camp, that is damn impressive. This just shows that as far as take downs are concerned, he may be out weighed slightly, but that is not going to be able to stop his opponent from hitting the canvas.

by Ade on Nov 24, 2008 3:59 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

All Good points, but if you were in Dana’s shoes, and GSP beats Penn, and with Silva talking retirement? Maybe not immediately after the Penn fight, but he’s [Dana] gotta be thinking it.
As far as this next fight, I was originally a GSP hater, as I was with Penn, but both guys have won me over in the last couple of years. I honestly don’t know who I’m pulling for. Either way, I would not like to see an early finish. I want to see both guys tested for 4 or 5 rounds. If so,it has the potential to be one of the UFC’s great fights. Well see.

But on the other way, St. Pierre is such a athlete… if he can prepare to this fight as a lifetime matchup and do whatever he can to beat Silva… everything is possible. This could be a hard night for both..

by Jee on Nov 23, 2008 11:15 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I think gsp has a better chance than any welter weight right now at beating the spider mainly because of his athletic abilities and his wrestling now topped with his bjj black belt. I’m not saying gsp can’t win but the odds don’t favor him winning IMO. I still think he has a better chance than anyone who has faced silva in the ufc so far. It would most likely be a cool fight but I wouldn’t enjoy seeing gsp get tko’d. Gsp would really have to make it a grappling match and avoid those big knees on the way in, if gsp could do it that would be awesome I just have my doubts after seeing andersons collateral damage.

by nathan on Nov 23, 2008 11:46 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

hendo is old and his bjj isnt that great, and rich was the guys 2nd fight in the UFC he didnt know much about him other then he had a killer striking game, which come first fight franklin tried testing how good it was, and the 2nd time around franklin tried the samething because his ground game sucks

first of all, manapua is a local snack usually found in chinese restaurants. it’s actually sweetened pork meat, usually a lot of fat and other “good” and tasty parts, baked inside a soft bun. it’s really good. local people say it’s cat because it is a local stereotype that chinese people are tight with their money and use stray cats to make their manapua in order to save money. don’t worry, we don’t eat cat over here. when i say “local” i just mean of or relating to the people of the hawaii and the contemporary hawaiian culture.

by shiki31 on Nov 23, 2008 11:50 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

by scott on Nov 24, 2008 9:25 AM EST reply actions   0 recs

Scott hendo normal walks around under 200lbs and franklin is normally 205. Gsp IMO is much quicker and the better athlete and I think he could take both guys down, even hendo. Rashad evans is bigger than both these guys and gsp could take him down and he couldn’t take gsp down, and he’s an accomplished wrestler. Thats just my opinion that he’s a better fighter than either of those guys but it would be a tough fight for him. In an interview franklin was asked if gsp stood a chance with anderson and he said he stood a good chance but not if he kept it standing all night. Thats actually more credit than I gave gsp, gsp is more dynamic all around than anyone I’ve seen fight silva and is a master at applying all the different disciplines in mma together.
