Strikeforce: "Destruction" Main Card Fight Recaps:
Scott "Hands of Steel" Smith (13-5) vs. Terry Martin (18-5)
Fight Recap: There's not much to say about the main event fight. Terry Martin stepped right into a perfectly timed right hand from Scott Smith that knocked him out cold only 24 seconds into the bout. It was a nice statement type win for Smith, who was coming off back to back losses to Robbie Lawler in Elite XC.
Final Result: Scott "Hands of Steel" Smith defeats Terry Martin via knockout (punch) in round one
Light Heavyweight Champion Bobby Southworth (9-5) vs. Renato "Babalu" Sobral (30-7)
Fight Recap: This fight was very tight in the early going. Southworth - who was the obvious crowd favorite - held his own against the highly touted Brazilian jiu jitsu ace. The two fighters went back and forth both on the ground exchanging positions and on the feet exchanging strikes. Near the end of the first round Babalu cut Southworth right above his eye with a nasty elbow. The referee allowed him to finish the end of the round, but the ringside doctor called a stop to the bout before the second round could begin, ending Southworth's reign atop the light heavyweight division and crowning Babalu Sobral the new champion.
Final Result: Renato "Babalu" Sobral defeats Bobby Southworth via technical knockout (cut) at the end of round one to become the new Strikeforce Light Heavyweight Champion
Yves Edwards (34-14-1) vs. Duane "Bang" Ludwig (17-8)
Fight Recap: Yves Edwards came out and immediately shot in for a takedown. Eventually he was successful, and from there he probably won the first round by controlling the top position for pretty much the entire round and constantly looking to pass and improve his position. There was a little bit more stand up in the second round, which Ludwig clearly preferred, but whenever given an opportunity Yves took the fight back to the mat and continued using dominate positions to control the fight from there. The round was a lot closer though, and could have gone either way. Ludwig was a little more aggressive in the third round. He pushed the pace on the feet, and this time took advantage of the top position on the ground himself to win the round. In the end, the judges scored a close second round for "Bang" as well for being more active, and Ludwig was awarded the unanimous decision victory.
Final Result: Duane "Bang" Ludwig defeats Yves Edwards via unanimous decision
Joe "Diesel" Riggs (28-11) vs. Luke Stewart (6-1)
Fight Recap: Coming into this fight Luke Stewart knew he had to get the action into his comfort zone, which is on the mat, and try to submit Riggs with his jiu jitsu skills. Early on he executed perfectly. In the first round he was able to get the fight to the canvas for the majority of the five minutes, where he was constantly looking for dominate positions and control. The first round was likely scored for him. In the second round, however, it was Riggs who took the fight to the ground. From there he rocked Stewart with some nasty ground and pound. Somehow Stewart managed to get back to his feet, but Riggs didn't have much trouble finishing him off with more strikes. This was a big win for Riggs. Stewart is a highly regarded prospect in the Strikeforce welterweight division.
Final Result: Joe "Diesel" Riggs defeats Luke Stewart via technical knockout (strikes) in round two
Kim Couture (0-1) vs. Lina Kvokov (0-1)
Fight Recap: Perhaps Lina Kvokov calling the Couture camp the day of the weigh-ins to inform them that she would be over the 130 pound weight limit was an indicator that maybe she wasn't all the way prepared for this fight. Regardless, this fight turned out to be exactly what most of us thought it was going to be, which was a showcase fight for Kim Couture. She completely dominated the fight with her kick boxing and Muay Thai en route to the early TKO.
Final Result: Kim Couture defeats Lina Kvokov via technical knockout (strikes) in round one
Keep in mind that we will also be the spot for the latest news, recaps and post-fight analysis after Strikeforce: "Destruction." Stick around.

o shut up already about Dana – he lost his temper – the man is busy and stressed out. Just started watching the fight on HDNet. Production = thank god we have the UFC, or MMA would still be back (main stream) in the dark ages. I have to say it makes you miss Goldy & Rogan.

I come to this site all the time, but never make a comment. Fun to read all the “experts”. Alone tonight and drinking. Yes – I have watched the UFC from #1 back when I was a kid. GO RIGGS (or WAR RIGGS) gay haha!

This was his first time back – needed some $$$. Riggs got the win – didn’t look that great, but said he broke his hand in the first round. (Get out of Lions Den – really go some where else – change it up. Can’t stop the take down!!!)

Kim looked pretty good. BUT – the other chick looked really bad. But still nice way to come back from a broken jaw!

Kim looked good – the other looked bad. But nice win after the broken jaw!

Hey, who’s that guy reffing tonight? He looks really familiar… It’s good to see Big Johnny back in the latex gloves again.
And who in the hell is this Kvokov can that they fed Couture?! This broad looked like she thought they were just going to shadow box for a while. She was throwing swings like somone’s arthritic grandma for fuck’s sake. If a fighter CLOSES THEIR EYES, TURNS AROUND, AND TRIES RUNNING AWAY FROM THEIR OPPONENT they should be penalized their purse.

couture by tko proved to all the shit talkers to keep their mouth shut!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
by skoler on Nov 21, 2008 11:01 PM EST reply actions
shit talkers ??? after she got her ass handed to her in her last fight, randy spoon fed her some wal*mart shoe clerk for goodness sakes….the card girls could have beat that jobber….a blind one armed old lady in depends would have beat Kvokov…..the only thing kim coutoure proved tonight is that she has good connections…this girl ran away for most of the round and has the chin of ‘glass joe’ …that fight did nothing to deter shit talkers…all it did was set women’s mma back about 3 years ….disgusting !!!

Holy crap “Bang” won the fight on his back! Can not believe it – finaly take downs with nothing after, mean nothing – YES!!! WOW
by JTK5 on Nov 21, 2008 11:29 PM EST reply actions
i agreed with the ludwig decision. i was hoping they wouldn’t give yves the 2nd round by sitting in half guard.
by synyster on Nov 21, 2008 11:33 PM EST reply actions
that was the first time Ludwig went to the 3rd round in 5 years. his last fight to go to the 3rd was in 03 when he beat genki sudo by decision. that was even before bj penn beat him. long ass time.
by synyster on Nov 21, 2008 11:41 PM EST reply actions
That was a nasty cut. Bad way to hand over your belt, but a bad way to try a keep it by pressing up on the cage all fight.
by JTK5 on Nov 21, 2008 11:58 PM EST reply actions
Bas Rutten is kinda retarded.. he was saying that they should take elbows out, because one guy could be winning the whole fight, then get clipped with an elbow, and lose on a cut. thats kinda stupid, considering that a guy can win the whole round, then get punched, knee’d, or kicked and get cut or KO’d like that. it doesn’t make ANY sense. i thought Bas was supposed to know what he was talking about..
and did terry martin walk out to micheal jackson music??

damn seems like martin gets “knocked out cold” everytime he steps into the cage/ring.
haha remember when he said im willing to stand with silva the question is, is the spider willing to stand with me?? lmao
by AzCombat on Nov 22, 2008 2:26 AM EST reply actions
terry martin is always getting knocked out. GIVE UP TERYY ITS WAY OVER. You tap the guy and gets knocked out. Theres only so much your jaw can take after what hes been threw. 10 percent the fighter he used to be.
by anthony on Nov 22, 2008 1:12 PM EST reply actions
I’m no big Terry Martin fan,but all the people who are saying he gets knocked out all the time the guys got an 18 and 6 record so let’s stop making a big deal out of the couple of fights you’ve seen him in that he’s ALWAYS getting KO.If anyone should stop fighting it’s the girl who fought Kim Couture. She looked like the last place she wanted to be was in the cage fighting.
by Robert on Nov 23, 2008 2:43 AM EST up reply actions
The funny thing was before the fight when they were doing the fighter profiles. The girl put her hands up in fight posture and I’m thinking what the hell is that? That was to funny. I have a headache from laughing so hard after reading some of the posts regarding the Couture fight.
