"A crash that almost killed two young men on the 15th of October at around 3 a.m. could have had disastrous consequences when the two young men, both from Privlaka, spun and crashed into the sea. Thankfully both men survived, due to the brave actions of Goran Reljic, the Croatian ultimate fighter, who resides in the immediate vicinity of the town in question. When he heard the crash, Goran jumped out of bed, still in his underwear and jumped into the sea. He swam to the car, proceeded to break the windshield of the vehicle and pull both men to land. Several eyewitness accounts confirm the story and so does Goran, who doesn't want any praise or recognition for the good deed."
Well he should because it sounds heroic and something that could be ripped from a Hollywood script. Reljic recently sustained a back injury while training for his upcoming 185-pound fight against Thales Leites (14-1) at UFC 90: "Silva vs. Cote" at the Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Ill., on October 25, and was forced out of the bout. He is a 23-year-old undefeated Croatian fighter who stopped Wilson Gouveia via technical knockout in his debut performance for the promotion at UFC 84: "Ill Will" back in May. He trains with the Roger Gracie Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Academy in London, England, where he is a purple belt. Hopefully we see him healthy and back in the Octagon real soon.

Thats awesome. Must have been FREEZING to jump into a river in just his underwear, in the middle of the night, when its getting to be pretty damn cold nowadays (I’m in Daytona Beach, FL and its like, 50 degrees.) I can’t imagine how cold that must’ve been.
Imagine the story if he stays undefeated and wins the UFC title.

As a croatian I’d be biased to say: Yea, we’re all like that. ;D
But ofc this was the heroism of an individual and I doubt you find many of such guys, regardless in what country you look for them.
Well, that being said… croatia has roughly 4-5 million citizens and has guys like Cro Cop, Galesic and Reljic who (in their respective time and class) must be considered quite the talented fighters.
There is a anekdote from Napoleon, when croatian mercenaries used to be the elite warriors of the french empire: “If I had 100,000 Croatians, I would conquer the world.”
Imagine 100,000 on the front lines, RHK’ing the sh*t out their enemies. :D

ufc fighters are like super heroes. there was a story a month back where two guys broke into brandon vera’s home and his black belt friend. they just kept on eating, laughing and quickly disarmed the men.

Goran just earned me as a fan. Its nice to see that kind of thing at this day in age, when the media (excluding Mania of course :) )loves to focus on the negative. I’m sure when this story really gets out, he will be an instant fan-favorite, and rightfully so. This is just the kind of thing Evan Tanner (who is continuously missed…R.I.P. Evan) would have done in that situation.

well, i’m proud to be croatian.
and the highlight of the story was thing that they didn’t translate from local newspaper (‘’slobodna dalmacija’’ – or ‘’free dalmatia’‘: ’’..then he dived again to see if there is more of them – goran shortly confirmed that he saved them but he didn’t want to go into hows and whys. he said’’:- Meni je najvće zadovoljstvo činjenica da su obojica momaka živi i zdravi, ne treba mi nikakva pompa, učinio sam ono što bi vjerujem svatko napravio da se našao na mjestu nesreće – kratko će Reljić.
‘’For me, the greatest satisfaction is the fact that both guys were alive and no injured, I did something I believe anyone would do if someone else had found hinmself on the place of the accident.’’
