Ultimate Fighter 8 Finale fights confirmed for Dec. 13 card

Spike TV today confirmed that the long-rumored rematch between Anthony Johnson (5-2) and Kevin Burns (7-1) will indeed take place at The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 8 Finale at The Pearl at the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas, Nevada, on December 13.
In addition, the network made official that Wilson Gouveia (11–5) and Jason MacDonald (21–10) will throwdown in a middleweight bout on the televised main card, which will serve as the co-featured fight of the broadcast.
Of course, the finals of the lightweight and light heavyweight tournament-style format that is currently in progress on the mixed martial arts reality series will also take place at the TUF 8 Finale.
All the action will begin to air live on Spike TV at 9 p.m. ET on fight night.
With the series nearing its conclusion (the semifinal match ups finalized tonight), we should learn more about the remaining fight card, which will likely include several eliminated participants on the show.
In the meantime, check out the latest TUF 8 fight card and rumors click here. Remember to also hit up our TUF 8 Finale event archive right here.

pretty good fights. Hopefully the Burns and Johnson fight ends differently this time.

From Spike TV verbatim:
card still a work in progress, so can’t say for certain [if johnson-burns is main event].
by MMAmania on Nov 19, 2008 3:15 PM EST up reply actions
OH NO! I REALLY hope that isn’t the main event.
Seriously, Gouveia vs MacDonald is a MUCH better Main Event.
I don’t think that the UFC would stoop as low as to have Kevin Burns headline a TUF finale. He was getting his cooly kicked by Johnson until he shoved 2/3 of his finger into Johnson’s eye socket.
by ViolentMike on Nov 19, 2008 3:42 PM EST up reply actions
Is it just me, or would either one of those be a poor main event.
by chefdaddy on Nov 19, 2008 5:53 PM EST up reply actions
No its not just you Chef. Both fights would make crappy main events. HOnestly, I dont want to see Burns vs. Rumble 2 at all. whats the point? Burns got dominated and I dont see the rematch being much different.
mcDonalds vs. GOuveia will be a very good fight, but it lacks star power required for a main event fight.
This card is seriously lacking a big fight, and with it only about a month away, I doubt we are going to get a big fight. They should have booked Kendall Grove vs. J-mac for the main event. Or Kendall vs. GOuveia. kENDALL ISNT ANYTHING SPECIAL, BUT HE HAS STAR POWER, he headlined the last TUF Finale vs. Tanner and performed at a high level. and he hasn’t had a fight since June. WTF is he waiting for?
by john on Nov 19, 2008 6:43 PM EST up reply actions
the cards are getting weaker and weaker… fight night for the troops is weak, 91 was pathetic… this is going to be a flop, where are all the good fighters? on layaway? the ufc seriously needs to sign some more talent, guys like kharitonov, overeem, mousasi, aoki, shields, jacare, diaz, hansen, manhoef, alvarez… it goes on and on… for the number one promotion right now they are seriously putting together some flop cards lately. at least 92, 93, 94 look solid so far!

Nick Diaz vs. Forrest Griffin would be sweet. I agree.

Rumour is diaz-Guida for january or february.
by NameNotRequired on Nov 19, 2008 7:47 PM EST up reply actions
Uh…this is the TUF8 Finale, guys…so the main event is going to be the two semi-finalists from TUF8, which won’t be known until the TUF8 season ends. Sheesh :)
by ToeLock on Nov 19, 2008 4:35 PM EST up reply actions
I’m pretty sure that’s usually the co-main event.
by RyanHobbs on Nov 19, 2008 4:45 PM EST up reply actions
uh sheesh…ur wrong…the main event is never the finals from TUF…the finals are always 2nd to last…Diaz/Guida as far as I’ve heard
by McArthur on Nov 19, 2008 4:45 PM EST up reply actions
Serra vs Lytle was the main event of TUF 4, but the finalists haven’t been in the main event since.

HEY MANIA, what happened to the thread with the advertisements?
by chefdaddy on Nov 19, 2008 8:43 PM EST up reply actions
I’m not sure Burns should be fighting at the Palms.
by SaVaGe on Nov 19, 2008 2:54 PM EST reply actions
How is Kevin Burns even allowed to fight? He admitted himself that he cant close his hand to strike! He will be poking alot of people in the eyes if he keeps fighting!
by JV on Nov 19, 2008 2:55 PM EST reply actions
Burns will get tooled again in this fight, so it won’t matter…
JV, how about Brock?? He looked pretty damn good, right. And I told you about Kenny, Joe got served!
by BNF on Nov 19, 2008 3:04 PM EST up reply actions
BNF, Whats up homie? What suprised me most about Brock was his boxing! And yea, I was also suprised with Kenny! I didnt think Joe would got out like that? Joe definitely got served!
by JV on Nov 19, 2008 3:15 PM EST up reply actions
what surprised you about kenny florian?
brocks boxing?? or was it randy’s age? at 45, the brains reaction time is less than at 40. he was obviously ducking the punch, just not fast enough!
by kevin on Nov 19, 2008 3:20 PM EST up reply actions
I have been crazy busy, and haven’t been on Mania for a few days. That turned out to be a great card and I got all my picks right. I have to start betting soon. :) I really hope to see Brock/Nog because I think Mir will get destroyed in a 2nd fight, quick. Brock should be working some major sub defense and sharpen his boxing for the next 4-5 months and I think he could be the undisputed champ.
by BNF on Nov 19, 2008 3:29 PM EST up reply actions
Kevin, LOL, everytime some body gets hit they are trying to duck it, but just moved to slow. That is why the punch lands. LMAO! Come with something better than that.
by BNF on Nov 19, 2008 3:45 PM EST up reply actions
If Brock were to face Nog, or even Mir for that matter, the strategy has to be the same – KEEP THE FIGHT STANDING. In that case, he is hoping to fight Mir because his standup is close to laughable at times. However, Nog has Pro Boxing skills and can pick Lesnar apart. You would think that Brock is bigger so he is slower, BUT I don’t think that will be the case with him vs Nog. Nog may have the quicker jab, but for the most part, Lesnar is the quicker fighter. If Brock were to drop Nog with a punch he can NOT follow him to the matt. He would need to pause a second to see if the fight is stopped due to KO, and if not, take a step back and allow Nog to get back up. Then do the same thing, this time preferably against the cage so he can’t go down as easily. That would have to be Brock’s stategy. We have seen what happens after beating Nogs face for 15 minutes and then jumping to the ground with him when you think he’s finished – you get choked or snapped.
by ViolentMike on Nov 19, 2008 3:47 PM EST up reply actions
no, seriously BNF, after 40, your brain actually loses reflex time. I realize everyone is trying to duck under a punch, I’m not dumb, but watch the replay, he almost has it, a few years ago he may have. then watch post fight interviews, he says he thought he ducked it. It’s age catching him, what are you saying, brock is this outstanding striker?
by kevin on Nov 19, 2008 3:50 PM EST up reply actions
haha. That is totally true. Maybe he was just trying to block it with his head?
by enzo-enormous on Nov 19, 2008 3:52 PM EST up reply actions
Kevin, Brock would duck and throw a kinda uppercut hook. Thats not bad for a rookie. And after Kenny’s fight with Huerta, I didnt think he would beat Stevenson! Thats what suprised me.
BNF, I noticed you had been MIA! Good to see you back. Im not a Nog fan but I would like to see Brock/Nog too. Only because I hope Brock pounds him out!
by JV on Nov 19, 2008 3:53 PM EST up reply actions
i dont’ thik that Nog could get knocked out by brock.. sure brock is fast and has alot of power, but if Cro cops left kick got nog- and couldn’t put him to sleep i don’t think Lesnar can… probebly hurt him to hell but no KO.. but eventually nog will take it to the ground same way he did against Tim pull gaurd and peace out- love to see Lesnar’s pink face when it turns red
by ricky on Nov 19, 2008 4:03 PM EST up reply actions
I replyed, but something happened. To summarize…
Kevin, of course after 40 you slow down, but it wasn’t affecting him at 44 so why the change over night.
VM, if Nog has “Pro Boxing” then Big Tim must be Floyd fuc*king Maywether because Nog was getting schooled for 3 rounds. And for some MMA math Randy tooled Tim on the feet. Point is, he is huge, quick, and will only get better in the next 5 months. I think he has a good chance of winning, whoever he fights.
by BNF on Nov 19, 2008 4:21 PM EST up reply actions
“Floyd Mayweather” LMFAO!!!!!!!!! Cant remember who Im quoting but: TRUTH!

by Psyqo78®™ on Nov 19, 2008 5:01 PM EST up reply actions
no, there is a specific study (I’m not making an excuse, I’m really not a big randy fan) that at 45 you’re brain starts to change. My wife (who’s in the medical field) actually told me this prior to the fight. She said watch, his reflex time will be slightly off compared to last time he fought, 18 months ago! She was right on!
by kevin on Nov 19, 2008 5:01 PM EST up reply actions
Okay, but everybody is different. There is no switch that changes the day you turn 45. Randy has defyed the odds his entire life and is a freak of nature in that regard. It just seems like a convenient excuse to me… Randy also looked bad agaisn’t Chuck when he got KTFO twice, but that is because he got KTFO!
by BNF on Nov 19, 2008 5:27 PM EST up reply actions
no, no switch, you’re right, but a lot can happen in 18 months! Like I said, no excuse, Icould care less, just stating a fact!
by kevin on Nov 19, 2008 5:31 PM EST up reply actions
C-mon Kevin! Its a weak excuse to bring up the age thing! How many 45yr olds do you know that can clinch and get up from under Brock? Age played no part in the loss.
by JV on Nov 19, 2008 6:01 PM EST up reply actions
Yeah, but would a younger man have pooped himself on the way back to the dressing room? I think not.

by allamerican on Nov 19, 2008 8:53 PM EST up reply actions
burns better get his thunb checked prior to the fight. their first fight should have been over ruled and anthony awarded the win via dq. that decision is one of the dumbest desicions ever. he cleary gouged him in the eye 4 or 5 times.
by COR on Nov 19, 2008 3:14 PM EST reply actions
Johnson tapped. That is why Mazzagatti ruled it a TKO. We had to see the replay to even understand what had happened. The moral of the story, refs should get to see instabnt replays before they land on a command decision. Or they should at least be able to overturn a decision. Like in football…. which the UFC sacked according to their new campaign….which I hate because it won’t help the UFC. It’s cool but it still sucks. The decisiomn should’ve been overturned by the commission tho. LAME!
by RyanHobbs on Nov 19, 2008 4:53 PM EST up reply actions
Off topic, but is anybody else upset that the UFC is teleivsing the CB Dollaway fight at UFC 92 over the Yushin Okami Vs. Dean Lister fight??? If they switched this then the televised card would prob be the best of the year.
by horny for mma on Nov 19, 2008 3:33 PM EST reply actions
ya that is stupid…Cb isn’t that bad but nobody that I know gives a sh^t about him or who he fights…Okami is or should be #1 contender…I honestly don’t think his fights are that boring
by McArthur on Nov 19, 2008 3:41 PM EST up reply actions
i think CB is scheduled to fight Mike Massenzio at 92. If you don’t remember, Massenzio ripped off Drew McFedries’ shoulder with a sick ass kimura back at the Anderson/Irvin UFN, I think. It may have been the Neer/Diaz UFN.
by synyster on Nov 19, 2008 4:10 PM EST up reply actions
That probably has more to do with Dean Lister being a boring tool than CB’s upper lip being really fun to watch.
