Fight of the Decade!? Has the POTENTIAL to be! We will See!

More excited for this fight than any other in recent memory!

“whose the guy in the green!?”

I agree 100%, this has the potential to be the best fight ever!

I see this fight ending in the first and GSP with his hand raised. He is too quick. I think Jon Fitch would put a whoopin on BJ and he didnt stand a chance against GSP.

2 and a half months, geez im gonna get so sick of hearing about this… and i think you guys will too, sure were all excited right now but just wait, by the time were two weeks out no one will even want to hear these guys names anymore… ufc 91 hype was pretty bad but this is going to be something else

GSP via GNP. Everyone sees BJ for what he can be not what he is.

by NameNotRequired on Nov 19, 2008 12:53 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

GSP winning in the first round? Really? That amazes me that anyone would call that quick of an end to this especially since BJ has never has been KO’d, submitted, or lost by G-n-P, and guys even 40#’s heavier then him can barely keep him on his back….

by Da Monkey on Nov 19, 2008 8:45 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Sorry he has the one loss against Hughes that he got TKO’d.

by allamerican on Nov 19, 2008 7:25 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Personally I am sick of all the “fight of the decade” and Biggest fight in UFC history talk by the UFC’s marketing team. Its all crap! After this fight is over they are going to try n promote another match up as fight of the decade…and so on!

anderson silva vs elvis sinosic, keep with the trend of can crushing err i mean biggest fight of the year

by brendan on Nov 19, 2008 8:21 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I like both fighters so much but I have to say I thought GSP won the first fight hands down, I don’t see how this would be any different. Don’t get me wrong I want BJ to win if I had to choose between the two. I just don’t see the fight being that close though. BJ is saying he is now training seriously but the reality is BJ always looked good at 155 not 170, where he is 1-2, your thoughts?
Again not complaining, I love this fight!!!!!!!

by Robert on Nov 19, 2008 9:05 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

GSP didn’t even win the first fight hands down on the JUDGES scorecards. He only won by split decision, which of course means that one of the judges thought that BJ won. BJ may have looked good physically at 155 in his early days, but he didn’t even train cardio in those days. Now he does, and he’s in great shape now. As long as he comes in lean and cut at the weigh in, I have faith that he’ll be in tip top shape. I see this fight either going to a razor thin decision win either way, or BJ by TKO started by a knee when GSP shoots(not terribly likely, but still quite possible). GO BJ!

by --utaptout-- on Nov 19, 2008 6:11 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Right on utapout. It wasn’t a hands down. He only scored points ont he judges’ cards. But in reality, GSP lost if you base it on who’s hurtin’ more after the fight.

hey one question socal, how can you detect any tone (“undertone”) in my posts? their black and white buddy! tones and sarcasm don’t translate well online, I’ll admit, and the majority of the time I’m being sarcastic and joking around. I apologize if I offend you! That was sincere!

Kevin, now that undertone is messed up dude. You should have quit while you were ahead. Your appology almost brought a tear to my eye. j/k

BTW I was more excited to see GSP. But BJ left me with a better impression. I still think GSP is the nicer guy, but BJ just comes off as the coolest fucking dude ever. I’m really glad I was able to meet both fighters. Class acts all around. And BTW, Dana White took time to meet EVERY SINGLE FAN. If you say he doesn’t care about fans, it’s bullshit.

Because then one man could have the possibility of defending 3 belts which would too hard for one fighter and would be extremely unhealthy.

by Colin D on Nov 19, 2008 12:33 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Not to mention B.J. getting killed would make the UFC look bad. haha

by naturalshadow on Nov 19, 2008 6:54 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I think I get what you’re saying, but I’m not 100% sure. I think you mean that if BJ gets destroyed by Anderson, then the ppl calling MMA “human cockfighting” will come out of the hiding again and say “See, the UFC doesn’t respect their own weight classes, and they just fed a natural 155 lb. fighter to a natrual 185 lb. fighter”. Am I right?

I think this is a valid case against making BJ-Andy IMO, as much I’d be interested to see it. Maybe if the UFC was more mainstream, then it could work, but probably not while the UFC is still trying to get sanctioned in places NY state and Massachusetts.

we’re going to have 2.5 months of these threads, with all of us saying the same thing! John, we’ve been busting balls for a few days now, but agreeing, it’s kinda funny! Just realize I’m doing it in fun, I actually respect your opinion and the news you bring to the site, just having fun with you.
socalstunna and jonsey (sp?) I don’t quite know why you wouldn’t like someone who keeps it real and is honest, as well as has the business background and can explain things, but you’re entitled to your opinions. I try not to bust balls of people I don’t know or don’t like, so I won’t bust you guys’ balls! Hopefully you can keep it real and keep an open mind. never seen you guys here before (or never noticed) so welcome, it’s my favorite site! Oh and yes, I have too much time and am quite bored, but have a scheduled 2 more months off, so lucky me!!!

by TheTruthhhh on Nov 18, 2008 11:01 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

I think Rogers Centre might be a bit much. Not because it wouldn’t sell out, but anyone in the 500 level wouldnt be able to see the fight at all.

I say Air Canada Centre would be a better venue, but thats just me.

by --utaptout-- on Nov 19, 2008 6:22 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Wow man i really can’t wait for this fight- but it doesn’t make any sence that if BJ wins he doesn’t get to fight Anderson silva- i guess its cuz he’ll keep the light weight division on hold for longer maybe.. but i think that if BJ does win he should defend his title one more time against Kenny, and if he beats kenny then he should by right have a chance to fight A.Silva for P4P ranking…

by ricky on Nov 18, 2008 11:14 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

You don’t fight “for P4P ranking” dummy. It’s an imaginary ranking system because guys 30lbs apart should generally not be fighting against each other. If he fought A.Silva and some how won that would be sick and would def boost his p4p ranking but if he moves up and Anderson beats him, that doesn’t boost Anderson’s rank. Why can’t ppl get this straight?? Miguel Torres in my mind is def a top 5 P4Per but he is not moving up to 155 or 170 to fight BJ of GSP. There’s a reason weight classes exist. I give props to guys who move around and test themselves but they sould only really be judged as a fighter in their natural weight class and possibly one class above. You can’t really say BJ’s loss to Machida was that big of a deal because he fights 50 lbs lighter most of the time. Physical limitations are gonna exist when that is the case. At some point the HW class will most likely be broken up into 2 classes so u don’t have bloated LHWs fighting guys the size of Lesnar, Carwin, Gonzaga etc. I’m sure there will be guys who move around between the two but lets all get on the same page with this issue please.

Mania ~ please take the time to thoroughly explain the meaning of P4P at some point so everyone gets it.

by Crowls on Nov 18, 2008 11:36 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

it’s not worth it crowls! The guys that get it, will get it, the guys that don’t, won’t. It’s like the guys that say a 4 million dollar gate and 1 million dollar payout is wrong! They don’t get the production costs and insurance and other over head. No matter how many times you explain it to them, they won’t get it.

by kevin on Nov 18, 2008 11:41 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

do you guys know who the term p4p was coined after? you get my respect if you know without wiki-ing it. :)

by b.w. on Nov 19, 2008 11:57 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

not 100% sure b.w. but the first thing that came to mind was Sugar Ray Robinson. Is that it?

by Crowls on Nov 19, 2008 8:45 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I was wonderng after watching Brock vs. Randy if they would ever make a 250 and + weight class….I mean dang Brock cuts to get to 265 and probably fight around 275 or 280. Randy walked in NATURALLY lol….at 220. Thats a LHW! Most LHW fight at 210-225.

I guess the UFC doesnt really have that many guys in the HW division to make a split though…

by Chadx23 on Nov 18, 2008 11:43 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Cutting weight is an enormous skill in itself. I think the weight classes themselves are ok. Super HW fights are pretty boring and lack real competition.

by Da Monkey on Nov 19, 2008 9:11 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Yes Mania, please explain the imaginary ranking system to all of us. I need a good story to bore the hell out of me and then I will sleep better.

by Grembone on Nov 18, 2008 11:54 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

fist off you taking offence like i dissed you is not necessary this goes to kevin also…chill out for a sec and don’t crap your pants in angre… what i meant by ranking is that if Bj penn does move up weight and does some how beat A.silva then your telling me that he wouldn’t be P4P on peoples list?? i get what you mean by the whole weight issue, but ppl have a list of p4p its on ESPN and others personal opinion on P4P thats what im talking, weather or not it is imaginary or not its still their so if he he does beat GSP- then he should have a crack at silva so that he can go out saying he beat just beat the best fighter in the world..chill out bud don’t take MMA personal when you all ur doing is training your fingures on a key board.

by ricky on Nov 19, 2008 12:31 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

first off, if you’re gonna start off an argument with saying “first off” you need to have more than one point.

Secondly, sorry to jump on you, but i see way too many guys on here who are retards. Yes, if he beat silva clearly one would have to say he is the top P4P in the world. The same cannot be said for Anderson if he were to beat BJ.

Thirdly, If you are gonna act all angry and try to match wits…get some spell check…I train my “fingures” on the keyboard with the best of em. Is that like a cross between figure and finger? or does it mean like to do cardio on your finger so that it’s really in shape and has a good figure?

Ditto above, above2 and above 3. Had to throw my hat in the ring too. My fingers have a good figure. I figure its because I train my fingers so they have a good figure and I figure their figure is good.

I think this matchup is more exciting than any other within at least the last 2-3 years. We know very well each fighter’s capabilities and they have fought each other before, both have improved greatly and they are so close in talent. I am not sure who I would pick to win. I like them both, but right now I am thinking BJ might pull it off… or wait maybe GSP…???

LoL! What the hell does “air freshening” have to do with fighting? Thats a random product to be associated with cage fighter. Thats like finding a guitar pick with Tito’s face on it. Cant wait for this fight!!! If BJ loses, i wont be able to show my face in here again LoL, im stoked, i know ill still be around and the “i told you so’s” are gonna rain down in this b*tch, forever. For Dana saying GSP has the ability to take on A.Silva and kinda indirectly saying BJ doesn’t, Is just a slap in the face to Bj.I mean Bj took on bigger guys than A.Silva like Machida and got ripped off.I don’t ever think you can get Dana White off of GSP’s tool.

by WESTSIDE/OAHU on Nov 19, 2008 12:48 AM EST reply actions   0 recs

i dont think thats what dana meant, but i tell you what if bj beats gsp, i will be clamoring for life that b.j. should fight a.silva (as long as he gives up thye lw belt). if b.j beats gsp, theres not much allure to a ken-flo/bj fight, so a.silva would be obvious.

The Last Comment on the video is 100% accurate. If they get MMA legalized in Ontaro and do a card here in toronto the could do it at the Rogers Center and sell it out no problem!

by Bojo on Nov 19, 2008 3:20 AM EST reply actions   0 recs

Nah. Dana just wants BJ to fights like florian, Sherk (2) Koscheck,Thiago and Fitch. Anyone of those fights would be a headliner. After milking those fights for what they’re worth, then maybe he’ll have bj fight anderson.

If gsp wins, the only figths that really makes sense are against thiago and anderson.

by Kdog on Nov 19, 2008 3:53 AM EST reply actions   0 recs

lol I’m from Toronto, and I have to agree with that. West Coast is way better.

Unfortunately, it’s true that the Rogers Center would sell out (50 000+ capacity). But it would be filled with a bunch of yahoos that don’t know shit about the sport.

I hate even watching these things are bars in Ontario. All you hear is all the idiots going “OOOO!” for
everything. Even the little things. It’s retarded.

Toronto sucks. I wouldn’t care if the UFC never came. I’ll go to Montreal.

GET HIM, ADAM!!! lol…I watched the 1st fight again the other day and Ive been meaning to mention that the replay doesnt show any finger going into the eye. GSP fans can hang onto that one (and believe me they will), until BJ beats him. Then they’ll find some other excuse as to why GSP has a face that looks like it had a run-in with Edward Scissorhands, and goes to the hospital while BJ is puffing away with his buddies and his shiny new belt.

WORD! BJ throws a nice combonation in that replay which he has both fists closed the entire time, but if rogan says it, it must be true. Him and Goldy also said that GSP had just scord his first points of the fight sometime in the 2nd round after a take down and a head kick by GSP (so those punches om the ground were obviously not the first points scord by George in the fight) but us Penn fans dont say anything cause we know George had already scored points. Just cause the commentators say it in theirt first reaction doesnt make it so, Joe also called it a knuckle after seeing the combination from Penn in the replay.

by ( (AdamG ) ) on Nov 19, 2008 2:55 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

EVEN GEORGE CALLS THE “EYE POKE” A “JAB” = VIDEO!

by ( (AdamG ) ) on Nov 19, 2008 3:41 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

He called it a thumb or a knuckle

God you rabid BJ fans will say anything

What wil you say when your boy takes his first beat down?

Oh I know!

BJ is a natural LW

GSP used LnP

BJ would have won in pride

GSP is WAY bigger than Penn

Penn didn’t train properly

GSP is on roids

And my personal favourite : BJ injured himself lmao

The comentating for that fight was so biased even obsessed BJ fans like yourself knew GSP already scored points, but thats why you guys think BJ actually won. That and Cecil freaking Peoples. If he wasn’t a judge that night GSP would have won a UNANIMOUS decision 29-28, 29-28, 29-28

As I remember two judges believed GSP won the last two rounds and there were only two competent judges present that night.

You guys have had SOOOOOOOO many excuses over the years, Jan 31st can’t come fast enough

Oh yea, didn’t BJ also poke Hughes in the eye? He has done it before, the replay shows GSP blinking like something went in his eye, GSP told us he got poked in the eye but nooo it wasn’t true.

George called it a JAB!!! No mare eye poke BSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!! All you guys have are excuses! If BJ Penn was in shape that night he would have won, thats not an excuse, its a fact. NO EYE POKE, JABBB! Right from GSP"S mouth! He would have called it an “eye poke” or a “finger” wouldnt he have??? But he didnt, he called it a jab. I cant believe i found that video just now, never seen it before today. BJ BJ BJ!!! HAHAHAAHH!!

There is another video you should find. Where GSP say," Bj punched me in da eye and in da nose, udder den dat he never urt me". You should just face it now, rather than being shocked in january. BJ can’t hurt GSP unless he can’t see. The first fight is a testament to that, BJ didn’t do JACK after GSP got his vision back. Now GSP didn’t do much (at least visual)damage to BJ, but things have changed, whether BJ fan will admit it or not. Before the Fitch fight GSP had really been working on his striking power and after watching that fight it’s hard to doubt it’s improvement. He might even be a little slower, but he hits harder now than he did at UFC 58.

I dont think anything about George different per fight, when he faces someone (as well as BJ) of his caliber (as they are both about to do for the first time in a while IMO) then i can i evaluate him per fight, the Fitch fight gave a lot of good footage of him against a great competitor so im excited about BJ getting some good footage right before the fight, fresh footage. If you go to you tube GORD, you can find the rest of this PRESS CONFERENCE VIDEO at you tube, its an9 part video bro, pretty good anf pretty funny = ) ENJOY!

Joe Rogan’s EXACT WORDS during the replay “It looks like a THUMB in the eye, it looks like a THUMB or a knuckle in the eye”. Adam, you should never discredit something (Rogan) and then use that same something to back up your arguement. Especially when you omit the TWO times Rogan said, “thumb”. If you watch that replay (on a better quallity than you tube) you can clearly see that BJ’s thumb was sticking out and pointing up. Seeing as the cut was on GSP’s eye lid (or nert as GSP calls it)doesn’t it seem more probable that it was a thumb nail? It was a jab, no one is doubting that and not many are saying it was intentional either. I don’t think it was ever anyone’s point,of what went in his eye, just that his vision was impaired. Is it any different in saying, “GSP would have done better if he wasn’t injured”, than “If BJ didn’t get injured he would have destroyed Hughes”? I don’t know what you see so special about GSP going to the hospital with a win, when BJ (Hughes fight) went to the hospital with a loss. All injured fighters go to the hospital, win or lose and all WINNER are HAPPIER, even if they are in the hospital and the LOSER is in the bar.

GOOD to see u back around ADAMG… I like your boy’s chances of beating GSP if he keeps scrambling to stand if GSP takes him down. If BJ continues to try for submissions from guard I think it’s going to be a long night for BJ!

He stood up every time except the last time with GSP before, and he was gassed then. We’ll see bro.

Awesome comeback gord penn ended up in the hospital after the hughes fight ha ha ha ha ha too funny. Penn always has excuses, even when he wins, he dissed serra by saying he didn’t prepare properly for the fight which is the reason for his poor performance, sound familiar.
